Saw it yesterday on TV. Look okay.

    by derlanghaarige

I heard the book ends with a huge orgy, which includes cannibalism. Am I right? Originally Ridley Scott was attached to make the film.

The trailer doesn't work with the firefox browser

    by undead neverhood

It crashes it to the desktop. :-( And I refuse to use IE, so I'll have to rely on the feedback on this board to read how it was.

They did it out of love

    by stranamore

I recommend the novel by Patrick Suskind to everyone--a quick read, sensual, atmospheric, and creepy. Perhaps we ought not give away how it ends, but, yes, the conclusion is memorable and very nicely done.

    The book is very good

    by blueberry

But they should release the movie in Odorama to give it justice.

    Perfume

    by konatus

Looks like it is going to be a good year for great literary adaptdations with Love in the Time of Cholera, A Scanner Darkly and now Perfume (to hell with the Da Vinci Code).

Listen to 'Scentless Apprentice' by Nirvana, the song is based on Suskinds novel.

Otherwise the story revolves around this poor chappy who emits no scent, but has a powerful sense of smell, able to dissent scents throughly. The scene in the trailer is where the main character discovers what he perceives to be the perfect scent. Onward from there he attempts to recreate this scent, and this involves killing people. There is a lot more to it, but that is the basic premise. I highly recommend the book, it had be fully engrossed, it is disturbing, beautiful and thought provoking.

    The book was fucking excellent.

I've always wanted to see an adaption of this to the big screen; it has all the elements to make it a truly great flick. Lets hope this does the novel justice.

anybody remember the fotos of him with strap-on boobs? That was from this show. Eichinger has been planning it for ages and they shot in Munich and France and Spain for half a year.
Liked the trailer, scared by Tykwer adapting it, don

    Ed Norton once considered?

    by l. duderino

I heard a while back that Edward Norton might be playing the lead character - I guess that didn't work out. BTW - this is indeed a very good book that you should pick up! The descriptions of scents are very vivid - I hope this translates to the screen well enough...

    This is just a teaser,

    by l. duderino

but it does the job: it tells you the movie's about scents, about a creepy, scent-obsessed guy that might use violence and that it is set a couple of centuries ago. I think "creepy" is a pretty good description.

I saw a one-woman show of this book in Milwaukee

    by don_gately

in which the gal told the story while preparing a French meal on hot plates. At the end, after the indeed very cool climax to the story, she lit a cigarette, bowed, and said, "Bon apetit!" and we all came up and helped ourselves to crepes and such. Very cool evening. Don't think Tykwer's the man for this, though.

    Fired up about this movie

    by doc_mccoy

Having seen all of Tykwer's films, I've found his visual style to be dazzling but, aside from RUN LOLA RUN, the material has been a bit dull (sadly, even HEAVEN was boring. I think this might finally be the project that fits Tykwer's style perfectly. Though I am confused about Dustin Hoffman's and Alan Rickman's roles in the film.

Fantastic book, but the story is complex

    by hatchling

It's hard to capture the essence of the book in a few seconds. I'm rather sorry Twicker is the director, as the story has so much complexity and is so compelling, it cries out for a great director. But this teaser doesn't tell us much about what the film will be doing. I'll be hopeful, and ready for disappointment.
