Published at:  Feb 13, 2006 2:49:56 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... Got an email from "james" dropping me a line on this link. Essentially, it's the same ol press release about Genndy Tartakovsky and Orphanage coming aboard to helm and produce the fx for POWER OF THE DARK CRYSTAL... only there seems to be an image of Queen Kira from the film... and she's older and cool as hell looking. It ain't much, but it's what we got...

Its queen Kira and shes old now.

Behold Queen Kira!!!

If this is successful they should do a Labyrinth sequel with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly returning. Say Connelly has a daughter who gets trapped in the Labyrinth world or something and she has to go back to save her like before, but this time Bowie has changed everything and made it way more dangerous.

Btw, if you have never seen Farscape, check it out, it's in syndication now. Pilot was one of the most incredible creations of Henson studios. I still hate that, something as creative as that show is dead, yet the definition of mediocrity: Stargate SG-1, is still kickin'.

    Puppets

    by the_deathticle

You said it, Shermdawg. One of the great things about Farscape was the use of puppets for some of the alien species. It made for far more interesting sci-fi than something like the Star Trek shows where all you need to be an alien is a little piece of latex on your nose or forehead. Pilot was great. Hell, even Rigel was believable or at least appropriate for his character. And let's not forget the Vogons from Hitchhiker's Guide. The Vogons were so damn well done, and a great argument for "real" vs. CGI, though I don't want to stir up that debate.

Something to do with fire was all I could ever make out with fierys saying take "off your head" every now and then. As for Dark Crystal, Chamberlain would be a dope appearance. origin of the stone from Secret of NIMH

    by cyberskunk

I can tell you a partial explanation. I met some of the animators at the San Diego Comic Con in the '80s once and was told that Nicodemus made up the story about Johnathan wanting Mrs. Brisby to have it, in order to get her to accept it.

    puppets and the such

    by occams_razor

I think that the muppets and that genre of puppetry is still alive today because Henson and his assosciates were able to make you forget that the puppets aren't real. People look at Kermit the way they would look at a real person because Kermit has been given this wonderful personality, so much so that you don't notice that you are listening to a talking frog made of felt. The same goes for the puppets in The Dark Crystal. You can debate CG vs. puppets all day and personally, I grew up on puppets and prefer them but CG has come a long way and maybe in a few more years it can get to that place where you quit noticing how out of place it looks. Gollum is a good example of this. Regardless, I hope this movie does justice to the original.

I liked the first "Dark Crystal" movie, didn't love it, but I have a feeling this new film will blow its predecessor out of the water. Tartakovsky's time has come, in my opinion, after such creative and emotionally captivating projects like Samurai Jack and Clone Wars. He really is the perfect guy to direct this film. And seeing how Gennady isn't afraid to tackle emotional gray areas or intense violence head on, without dumbing it down, I'm interested to see this film.
