Virginia Madsen to play the latest Indiana Jones Sweetie?

Published at:  Feb 03, 2006 1:19:30 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... seems that Virginia Madsen made Harrison take notice and he's hoping she plays his love in the next Indiana Jones film. Personally, I think that's a really great choice as Madsen is an absolutely fantastic actress. Here ya go...

FROM : IMDB

Madsen Favorite To Play Indiana Jones' Girl

Sideways star Virginia Madsen so impressed co-star Harrison Ford in new thriller Firewall, she's now the frontrunner to play his love interest in the fourth Indiana Jones adventure. Madsen plays Ford's wife in the new movie and admits they both found an unusual chemistry on set - after the ageing action man handpicked her for the role. And now Madsen is a clear favorite to play the leading lady in Indiana Jones 4.

Ford : "She was an absolute delight - professional, very talented and simply, very sweet. She also took what could have been a fairly one-dimensional damsel in distress role and added so many layers to it - there isn't many who could do that. I'd work with her again in a heartbeat. I'm actually hoping she'll come over for Indiana Jones. We've talked about it."

    by doc_strange

Hmm now that Virginia's looking good for the role, this movie might just work out. I always loved her, back when she first came out in Dune, then again in Highlander 2 (ugh, I know), but she's a great actress and highly underrated, plus she has a nice rack. As for Harrison, they showed him with a goatee in an interview last week. If he went and kept that, the movie would work a whole lot better.

Yes, of course it will happen; it will be followed by a remake of "Raiders" - probably with one of those recent homosexual cowboys as the lead - and then W. S. Anderson will be given the "Indiana Jones versus XXX" project.

And when George Lucas works on a project, he gets it done. Or, to put it another way, at least he gets it done. I wouldn't be too worried about the age thing though - I'm sure they'll acknowlege that and make a movie to suit. Just as long as we don't get Indy 4: Wrath of Khan...I mean I don't want a cliched action-hero-getting-old thing. What I do want is an Indy 4, and snappy.

I think we need a bit more Lucas and a little less Spielberg for INDY 4. btw do all jeff nathanson scripts self destruct the last 1/3? are they all anticlimactic tosh? if thats the case INDY 4 is gonna be shit

Spielberg does have fun, its his choice of material that hinders his flexibility with it. CMIYC had heaps of it. He's just evolving with time. I would love it if he made indy movies every year but the guy would be like, shit i do the same thing all the time. Watch doco's on the making ofs and you'll see a guy loving every minute making movies. There will be brilliance in indy 4 and they know what they are doing. Spielberg knows where he came from, and he can bust out the coke when he feels like it. Lucas is the one to watch out for, seeing spielberg is the sole human who can tell him what to do. Lucas always had a sense of adventure, though so he can bust out the coke too. At least we can all look forward to seeing SOME type of villian die in some incredibly bizzare fashion.

Wow, great. More Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford bashing from talentless hacks way outside the know. So all three have lost it since their heydays of the '70s and '80s, huh? Is there no love for flicks like "Minority Report," "Munich," "Air Force One," "What Lies Beneath," and "Sith" here? So they're not all perfect flicks. What films are? I'd take those five over 90 percent of the movies I've seen since '89. And that's not even including movies "Jurassic Park" (of which Lucas co-edited as Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List") and a pretty darn good legal potboiler Ford made in the early '90s in "Presumed Innocent." The two Jack Ryan films were pretty solid, too. As for Ford being too old, whatever. I always regarded the Indy movies more as adventures than actioners. As long as Ford doesn't mumble and grumble his way through the film, it should be fine no matter who Dr. Jones is balling.

    by samuellappdance

Just off the top of my head--Rene Russo, Virginia Madsen, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jill Hennessy certainly top the list. But how 'bout such past Ford co-stars as Sigourney Weaver ("Working Girl" ... can ya imagine Indy and Ripley kickin' ass together), Michelle Pfeiffer ("What Lies Beneath"), Sela Ward ("The Fugitive"), Annette Bening ("Regarding Henry"), Anne Archer ("Patriot Games"), and Greta Scacchi ("Presumed Innocent"). Would love to see them work Short Round back in and have some bad-ass martial arts dude play him. Indy could even romance his mom, played by Michelle Yeoh. There really are a wealth of possibilities.

Anyway, I'm surprised she'd want to work with Ford again. Especially after his drunk behavior towards her at the Globes. Speaking of which, that's probably what he was concentrating on. Her globes. And I'd say the Holy Grail is pretty occult, since so many legends and secret societies built up around it. Sorry for the segue whiplash.

Well, Catch Me If You Can wasn't really like that, but I class that as the Berg in his directing-in-his-sleep mode. War of The Worlds was a big disappointment. The only good scene is the tripod appearance scene, and there are a couple of good effects shot moments like when they're driving the car and when Cruise emerges from the house where the plane crashing has demolished everything. You've gotta admit he has balls to even contemplate those shots, but the technical stuff can't save the movie which was very lite and lacklustre, particularly the end which had RUSHED written all over it. I enjoyed Minority Report and even A.I. better. I want Indy 4, if only to see how Spielberg handles a return to that style.

But the more I hear about Indy 4, the more I've come to believe it's some marvelously long-winded-type of April Fool's joke...right up there with a new Duke Nukem PC game. I would much rather see a NUKEM film, preferably with Mickey Roarke as the babe-chasing asskicker and bubblegum-chewer, than to see Spielberg and Lucas revisit a franchise that should be allowed to die with some degree of dignity (Last Crusade was a lot of fun; and that's exactly how you wanna go out).

I read he's involved in preproduction on the Abe Lincoln biopic with Liam Neeson. After that is his 'Mary Poppins' flick, along with producing Jurassic 4. Repeat, Indy 4 is a pipe dream.

Dumbasses telling each other the same joke over and over again

    by phaedrus007

Guy walks into a room tells a joke. Another walks into a room, tells the same joke. All of a sudden everyone who walks into the room is telling the joke and everyone in the room is just sitting around telling the joke to each other. Sounds like a great time, eh? Good thing none of you dumbasses were around when Clint said he wanted to make another cowboy movie or we wouldn't have Unforgiven... the nastiest, toughest performance of his career. I hope they make Indy 4, I'll be first online for a ticket.

    How old is Meryl Streep?

    by drjones

Probably Madsen is ok. who can judge that as nobody has any idea about the character. i think it would be interesting to see indy team up or rival against a woman who is very very close to his age. of course it is likely that henry jones jr., having inherited his father's genes, never really moved on from the student chicks or 20 year old austrians. but if not i wanna see an old beautiful lady on the screen.

Television detective Monk's snappy sidekick, or SVU's brunette bombshell. The former would be for a lighter story, Mansfield's daughter for a grittier Karen Allen-type heroine.

    Beautiful, talented... an excellent choice!

    by ivan_mtl

Virginia Madsen alone would be reason enough for me to want to see this movie. The Indiana Jones series of films have always been a favorite of mine. There is such a huge potential for interesting storylines that I think it should eventually evolve into a vehicle for other actors in the leading role similar to Sean Connery's James Bond. I think that the character of Indy is bigger than the actor playing him. Having said that, I would still enjoy seeing Harrison Ford in the role for one last time before being replaced by a younger actor. I've always imagined a final tale in which an aging Indiana Jones is on his death-bed recounting his adventures to a young writer (and former student). As Indy finishes telling his last tale (Indy IV), the writer would ask him if there were still any great adventures left to be undertaken. He would reply "Yes, just one more." Indy closes his eyes and breathes his last. We would then cut to a scene in a bookstore where the author is signing copies of his latest "Adventures of Indiana Jones" book. A child approaches with his mother and hands him a copy of his favorite book in the series - "INDIANA JONES AND THE RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK." The author looks up, smiles and says it's one of his favorites too. Anyway, I did eventually get to see a very similar sequence in the movie Tombstone, so I'm pretty sure the screenwriter(s) will come up with their own original idea, right? I mean, this is Hollywood after all.

    by johngalt2005

a movie about Abraham Lincoln. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Lincoln. And David Herbert Donald's biography is just about the best historical bio you could hope to read (hopefully Spiely has) but it's pretty cut and dry, storywise. Looks like another AMISTAD in the works. Oh well, the cinematography will be pretty.
