Published at:  Feb 01, 2006 8:55:25 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

In a bit more than six weeks, “Supernatural” leaves its post-“Gilmore” slot for Thursdays at 9 p.m., where it will likely be ground into a fine dust by “CSI” and “The Office.”

“Everwood,” which had been airing in the post-“Smallville” slot all season, flees back to Mondays at 9 p.m. (It returns from hiatus March 20 with a two-hour episode.)

There are also new shows coming. “The Bedford Diaries,” a college drama from “Oz” mastermind Tom Fontana. “Pepper Dennis,” starring Rebecca Romijn and Brooke Burns as the hottest sisters alive. Look! A press release!

THE WB ANNOUNCES MIDSEASON CHANGES

Burbank, CA January 31, 2006

“PEPPER DENNIS” TO PREMIERE ON TUESDAY, APRIL 4, FOLLOWING “GILMORE GIRLS”

“THE BEDFORD DIARIES” WILL LAUNCH ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22

“EVERWOOD” RETURNS TO THE SCHEDULE ON MONDAY, MARCH 20 WITH A TWO-HOUR BROADCAST

“SUPERNATURAL” SHIFTS TO THURSDAY, FOLLOWING “SMALLVILLE”

The WB Network announced today that the star-studded one-hour romantic comedy PEPPER DENNIS will headline an exciting midseason lineup. PEPPER DENNIS will be joined by controversial midseason drama THE BEDFORD DIARIES and the highly anticipated return of acclaimed drama EVERWOOD. PEPPER DENNIS, which stars Rebecca Romijn as a television news reporter, will kick off on Tuesday, April 4 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET). The series, which also stars Josh Hopkins and Brooke Burns, will follow Tuesday-night hit comedy, GILMORE GIRLS, (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET). Regular encores of PEPPER DENNIS will air on Sundays (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET), beginning April 9.

THE BEDFORD DIARIES will debut on Wednesday, March 22 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) as the lead-out to ONE TREE HILL, which returns with original episodes that same night. THE BEDFORD DIARIES stars Matthew Modine as the professor of a sex and the human condition seminar at a New York university, along with Milo Ventimiglia and Penn Badgley as two of his students.

EVERWOOD, starring Treat Williams, Gregory Smith and Emily Van Camp, returns with a two-hour episode on Monday, March 20 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET). The family drama then returns to its original Monday time period, following 7TH HEAVEN, on March 27.

Replacing BEAUTY AND THE GEEK on Thursdays will be SUPERNATURAL, beginning March 16 (9:00-10:00_ p.m. ET). This move should advantage the first-year hit, pairing it with the compatible and über-successful SMALLVILLE (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET), which is enjoying its best season ever, both creatively and in the ratings.

What's the point with the CW coming next season?

    by chrth

Are they just burning off shows, or hoping against hope that the new shows will gather an audience quick enough to put them on the sched next fall?

    by chorleyfm

To find out if it worth picking up. Also the Bedford Diaries is really bad, saw the pilot a while ago and gave up 20 minutes in, just like the Mountain pilot.

  • Herc, back in September, many a fan, saw this move coming. Supernatural fits much better after Smallville. You can think it will be destroyed, but it wont. It fits with Smallville. Everwood fits better with a show about to be cancelled. You can want Supernatural to be cancelled, but it's a) cheapier, b) younger, c) has a smaller cast, and d) did I mention younger than Everwood? Everwood's days are numbered. Much like Carnivale, this show has moved it's characters laterally instead of vertically. Could be spec, but Supernatural seems way to hip to dump off the CW for Everwood. Oh yeah, you hate How I Met Your Mother? No suiting up for you Herc. NO suiting up for you.

Monday = 24, Tuesday = Scrubs & Boston Legal, Wednesday = Lost, Thursday = a 1/2 dozen shows all on in the same 2 hour time period.

They WB is starting to test the shows in different time slots, because when they merge the shows of both channels will be rearranged. They are doing it now to prepare for the fall.

...pairing it with GILMORE GIRLS gets a higher female crowd since the ladies love them some Jensen Ackles and ex-GILMORE costar Jared Padalecki. They won't likely make the switch to Thursdays, since it's up against THE O.C. Does anyone know if they still plan on running the week's SUPERNATURAL encore on Sundays as they have been, or is one of these new shows plugging that programming hole?

    by ashfett

There already had been a lot of speculation that The CW were planning on pairing Smallville and Supernatural, likely on Thursday nights, where Smallville has done well. So I agree, they are doing a test run now to see how Supernatural holds up. No one expects it to beat CSI or anything, but if it can hold a respectable amount of Smallville's audience, the powers that be will be pleased.

But Supernatural is safe for next season already...

    by viola123

I know that it's probably going to be in for a battle at 9pm, but I think it's great that it will be paired with "Smallville". I think it has a much better chance of retaining the audience "SV" enjoys than "Everwood". Their audiences are more compatible, and "Supernatural" is definitely coming back next season, so I don't think it hurts to have them test this pairing for next season. I really hope they're together - what night, I don't know. I'm hoping Thursdays. But even though I think "My Name Is Earl" and "CSI" will be competition, I think "Supernatural" can certainly battle "The O.C.". "Supernatural" has a following and I think, with it not slotted with "SV", that following might grow. I don't think this is a bad move. And are we talking "Smallville"? :)

Gave up on Supernatural after six eps - Herc, we sorely need talkbacks for coolness like The Shield, Surface, Invasion and Prison Break... Speaking of The Shield, anyone else see the beginning of Forrest Whitaker's meltdown - he really holds his own with Chiklis!

    by acappellaman

Seriously, almost all the shows I watch are moving to Thursday nights, and Survivor starts this week too! Crap! I worry for Supernatural, though. Going up against My Name is Earl and The Office is a pretty hefty challenge. Honestly, though, I don't see why all these shows have to "compete". With the right number of DVRs and/or VCRs, you can watch as many shows as you want and support them all regularly. We have a rotation of tapes that we use to watch the overlapping shows. It gets a little crazy trying to catch up after Thursday nights, but the quality of shows on is worth it.

now i must decide if I should watch The OC or Supernatural...that is a bummer...and as a guy that sounds kind of gay, but I honestly do like both shows...I seriously cannot wait for the CW...I mean Smallville, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars not to mention the new Aquaman show!...if only they had somehow managed to pick up Battlestar Galactica and Arrested Development...I would only need to watch one channel the rest of my life!

    by charlie murphy

okey dokey. i like supernatural. i do. but has anyone noticed how the pilot is quite similar to the story of that boogeyman movie a few years back starring barry watson? i got the movie for christmas from a relative (who i guess thought i would enjoy a PG-13 piece of terribly directed shit) anyway, i shut the movie off after twenty minutes, but the synopsis on the back sounds a lot like the supernatural pilot. ie- a parent gets killed by an unseen monster and many years later, the recent college grad son hunts it down. and get this: it's written by eric kripke, creator of supernatural! wow. anyhoo i like supernatural a ton (a little less these days what with their usually bad guest stars and cliched to death endings) and of course any show that has richard hatem writing gets my approval. i hope it makes the jump to the CW. however it may get its ass beat down in that time slot. i thought it would be great to see a smallville/supernatural combo... on the CW that is. it's too early for me. hopefully this works out. and LeckoManiac, i too am a straight male who enjoys both shows. (well not the OC anymore). the oc has been relegated to "damn-I'm-bored-what-can-I-watch-so-I-don't-have-to-slit-my-wrists" tv in my books. i'll watch it, but only as a last resort. i loved Season 1, HATED season 2, enjoyed season 3 for a bit, but i kinda lost interest. "Surface" is another show i like that i've simply lost track of. peace!

that will be sad if everwood does get cancled? It was great the first two years, sucked most of last year, and this year has been great. It's the most like northern exposure show out there right now, and now that it's up against the jack buer power hour, i'm sad. Put it after gilmore girls, so i can go from those two to boston legal.

tha'ts sad that everwood has to go up against 24. This year has actually been very good. A hell of a lot better then that oc crap. Also, while smallville is a fun show, I'm sorry, but everwood is a much better written one.

Glad I've got Tivo. Now Supernatural, The OC, My Name is Earl, etc. are all on together. And personally, I've never liked CSI. I like Law & Order SVU and the Criminal version, but never could get into CSI.

I gotta say, I really dig Smallville, Supernatural, Veronica Mars and the now defunct Reunion. I also like Medium and The OC. Even so, I still gotta hand this year to cable with Battlestar and Rescue Me. Hell, SG-1 is still better than 99 percent of what's on the networks. I also like Dead Zone and 4400 a lot better than most network offerings, and I probably watch thinkgs like JLU and Adult Swim more than I do network TV as well. Starved and Always Sunny in Philadelphia were funny as hell. I can't wait for the Sopranos. Big network TV is going the way of the dinosaur if they don't do something different soon. Hell, if I could see cable pick up Firefly and Tru Calling, I'd be happy. If cable brought back Carnivale and Touching Evil, I'd also be happy. Lot of good shows went by the wayside, but cable's certainly got a far better track record right now.
