Spanish PAN'S LABYRINTH One Sheet!!! Very Groovy!

Published at:  Jan 27, 2006 11:00:20 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... I love this poster. It just feels esoteric and unusual. It isn't one of those photographic faces posters. It looks organic and creepy. A little dangerous. I like that. It'll be interesting to see what Bob Berney and the folks at PICTUREHOUSE are going to do with PAN'S LABYRINTH in terms of marketing materials and release date. Personally, I just can't wait to see the damn thing! Here's the poster, thanks to Arnaud for pointing me in its general direction. Also thanks to the fantastic folks at excessif.com who provided the poster!

    Tim Burton?

    by blue_demon

I think the font used makes it look Del Toro-ish. Reminds me of the titles to "Espinazo Del Diablo." ( wait...is it "espinaso" or "espinazo?" My father will kill me for forgetting how to spell in my native tongue. )

Big Fish, right on the money. Man I love Del Toro. This looks like it's going to be good. I wonder what the American poster will look like?

Most anticipated film of the year for me...

    by seppukudkurosawa

Ever since Hazza posted those pics, plus the trailer, a couple months ago I've been day-dreaming about what Del Toro will do with this. I'm thinking it'll be one of those few films that'll both horrify me and make me use my noggin at the same time. It'll be the skewed, inner-recesses of the mind, version of Alice in Wonderland. If you never got to face those demons down as a kid, well this should be your opportunity to do so. --- And no, I'm not Guillermo's brother/son/father/sister. I'm his nephew.

Anyone seen Spirit of the Beehive?

    by odysseus

It's an early 70s Spanish film, the premise of which echoes Pan's Labyrinth. Spirit is about a small girl during the time of Franco's regime who sees James Whale's Frankenstein, and is deeply haunted by it. It's an amazing, often overlooked film, and would one day make a great double feature with Pan's Labyrinth.

But it looks so fucking cool! Go to hell, Hollywood, with all of your usual photoshop-made posters with just pictures of the featured stars in it!!!!!!

    At least...

    by cagirl

...it isn't a remake of a film that didn't need to be remade or a modern movie version of a crappy 70s TV show. I look forward to this one because if nothing else it should be NEW and not a sequel, prequel, or remake. Unfortunately, having said all that it's just my luck that this film will feature David Bowie chasing after the daughter of Jennifer Connley with all kinds of muppets in tow.

Isn't Pan like a satyr? If so, the vagina look makes sense, since satyrs were big on raping women.

Satyrs are ver "amorus" and were known for seducing human woman when they could, not raping them. Maybe you're letting your own fantasies cloud your memory?

    by captdanielroe

...If you take another look at it. Because clearly the triangle is inverted, meaning that ring at the top is... Oh God it's too horrible; mustn't think it.

But in any case, bravo to the artist and the director, etcetera, for making a "challenging" work.

What is your point, besides the one on top of your head? The image displays an opening to something special and unknown, perhaps great. That, of course, subliminally leads me to think of a vagina. How and why is this bad press?

...don't get bent out of shape just beacause the poster didn't include a big phallic pole that you could have a fantasy about. The poster art has a very distinct look, and it is meant to. If you look at it and don't eventually see a similarity, YOU are the one who is mixed up.
