DEEP SPACE NINE affiliate stand-offs (some resolved - update 10-2 @ 8:15pm)
|
Glen here…
It's 8:15pm (Central Standard Time), October 2.
New (seventh season) episodes of DEEP SPACE NINE will return to
Los Angeles airwaves next weekend on Saturday, October 10.
KCOP has prepared a recorded announcement that can be accessed by
dialing the station at (213) 851-1000. Ask for extension 6601, or
simply dial 6601 manually after business hours.
The Minneapolis / St. Paul issue has been resolved.
New DEEP SPACE NINEs will start to air there Saturday October 3 at 6:00 P.M. on UPN 9.
San Francisco's UPN station has released this message:
Dear Deep Space Nine Fans,
Thank you for all of your e-mails concerning the situation with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. We apologize for any inconvenience, frustration or anger that has been caused by this whole situation.
UPN44 can not confirm that we will be
carrying the 7th season of DS9 due to the negotiations that are going on between
the DS9 distributors and the heads of our network. We are awaiting word from
the heads of our network and therefore must delay or cancel our run of the 7th
season of Deep Space Nine.
We at UPN44 would like to air the program just as
all of you would like to see the program. All we can do now is to wait and see
what happens. When something does occur, we will let all of our viewers know
via our website at www.upn44.com.
The Star Trek: Voyager premiere will go on as
scheduled, Wednesday, October 14th at 9pm. Once again, we apologize and hope
that Star Trek:Deep Space Nine returns to our air.
Thanks for writing in.
Sincerely,
Sandy Lee

A tiny clue as to why some of these DS9 related complications have
been arising
between the stations and Paramount might be found in the folowing message,
sent in by a kind Coaxial reader.
According to an article in today's San Francisco Chronicle, the
problem is that there's been a dispute between United Television, Inc.,
and Paramount.<
United owns stations in San Francisco, Minneapolis,
San Antonio, Baltimore, Salt Lake City, Pheonix, and possibly
Orlando (this according to United Television's web site). Stations
in New York, Los Angeles, and Portland are owned by the majority
stockholder of United Television, which (I think) contracts with
Paramount to show DS9 on all, or at least most, of those stations.
So that's as up-to-date as I can manage at the moment. Congratualtions to all who were successful in getting DS9 back on the air on their hometown(s), and
best of luck to those who are still waiting to do so...
