The 99th SCRUBS, Airing Tonight, Was Written By AICN's Own John Robie!!

Published at:  Jan 17, 2006 1:17:35 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

It’s a little scary how many contributors to Ain’t It Cool News are now making their livings in the filmed entertainment industry. (Of course, some were entrenched in the biz long before Harry Knowles founded this site nearly a decade ago.) Harry himself now has like four or five different features in various stages of development. Drew “Moriarty” McWeeny and Scott “Obi” Swan last year saw their screenplay “Cigarette Burns” turned into an episode of “Masters of Horror” directed by John Carpenter. Other enormously successful contributors continue to keep their AICN and professional identities separate.

Many may have wondered why “John Robie” (also known as “Aguirre” in AICN’s earliest days) cut back on his AICN contributions in recent years. One key reason is his alter ego, a funny fellow named Kevin Biegel, has been developing a career as a sitcom writer. As it happens, he has joined the writing staff of “Scrubs” and his first teleplay to see air is the 99th episode of the series, and it airs Tuesday night.

Kevin’s installment is titled “My Missed Perception” and it airs at 9:30. Another new episode, this one not written by Der Biegel, is titled “My New God” and airs at 9 p.m. The earlier installment guest stars the hot, hilarious and otherwise scrumtulescent “Curb Your Enthusiasm” vet Cheryl Hines.

Take up valuable bandwidth with your predictions and reactions.

“My New God”: 9 p.m. Tuesday. NBC.

“My Missed Perception”: 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. NBC.

The “24”-esque graphic novel Joss Whedon says must be made into a TV series!! Global Frequency: Planet Ablaze !!

    Scrubs is good

    by chorleyfm

Fairly standard subject title but I couldn't think fo anything else. Even if his script is balls the showrunners would have polished it up before it hit the screen. Also I hate Cheryl Hines, it is probably that she is the worst thing on Curb and I haven't seen her in anything else, but I hate her.

    After Angel season 5

    by discosis

IDW is running a series of Angel comics now that promise to let fans in on the fate of their favourite non-offed) characters. ---------- And in an attempt to stay on topic, I discovered Scrubs last year, and it's certainly one of my favourite shows on the box. :)

I heard WB picked that up and then dropped it straight away. It had been pretty much in TV development Hell from the get go as I understood it.

Pilot was made (leaked online a while ago) quite good not outstanding, was not picked up for a series. Was shopped around no other network took a chance, now it is pretty done and dusted.

Scrubs gets the shaft! Like most good sitcoms...

    by the colonel

All the crap gets ratings and stuff like Scrubs and Arrested can hardly find a set time slot!

    ---------------------------------------Here's a theory on why:

  • It's funny because it's true. And if it's been on for a couple of years, the network pimps it to all the awards shows. It gets nominated or even wins, and the general viewing public thinks if it won an award it must be good. They start watching in herds, and the show continues ad nauseum until the actor's contracts come up for renewal for the second time and their demands outweigh their talent. So the show is cancelled, only to start up again the next season with a new cast and slightly altered premise.

'cause those were the worst two since the show's been on. This show was too great in seasons 1-4 for it to get f---ed up now.

A TV pilot for the Global Frequency was made by WB and then leaked on the Net; I'd heartily recommend you find it, get it, and see it. People's reactions have varied from moderate amusement to sharp, painful, yet futile longing for more - it's definitely worth a look, see what you make of it...

Just finished watching Scrubs #98 & #99 and the verdict is:

    by regenhund

#98 was way funnier than Robie's #99, but it had it's moments too. Why was #98 so good? Any time Perry's wife Jordan is there it rocks, and I liked the whole sister thing, plus it was funny about religion without being insulting, but mostly it was the Angry Sex. Oh, and the return of Bajingo.

#99 was average Scrubs funny, which is still a hell of a lot funnier than most network crap, but the whole silly/introspective balance was too heavy on the Lesson Of The Week. "Watch out for colon darts" was pretty good, though. And the fruit basket.

99 Was Weakest Scrubs This Season

    by sean38

But even a weak Scrubs is better than 99% of the other comedies on TV. So not too shabby.

I was pleasantly surprised at the handling of the Christian aspect of 98, and 99 was worth it just for the Indiana Jones and Turk chugging the slushie!

Scrubs ? Best comedy on TV ...

    by itchy

and I love The Office and Earl, but this show is the most miserably mistreated show on network TV since Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared. It is absolutely unique, and just a marvelous example of how to mix a tight comedic plot with absurd abstractia. And to be honest, I love the back-to-back episode technqiue ... I Tivo them and watch them right before Lost on Wednesdays. Perfect counterpoint.
