Japanese Trailer for V FOR VENDETTA is funky cool!
Hey folks, Harry here... I don't know about you, but I love Japanese Trailers for cool American movies - even if this one is a whole bunch British. I'm talking about V FOR VENDETTA - the upcoming obsessive-compulsive geek rallying cry for cool movie of the year. That isn't to say this is a pure geek film, it is if you know the source material, if you don't - it's just a fucking great movie period. Anyway - there isn't a ton of new footage in this - it's just how it is put together and the funky cool vibe that it all has. I figured for those of you needing a Vendetta fix, this'd be severe undernourishment, but hey, it's something.

Well that trailer did nothing for me. What's with the music? Anyone else think it sounded like they'd got some Japanese kid to play The Propellerheads Spybreak badly for the trailer? It just really doesn't fit to me. I much prefer the other 2 trailers that have been released.

I didn't really like it. With a couple of extra shots and all the trick editing, it took basically just as long to say half of what the first domestic trailer did (and that one didn't really give anything away, before you start on me). It was kind of fascinating to watch though. I don't think I've ever seen a theatrical trailer like that before in my life. Is that kind of editing in trailers common practice over in Japan? Are they trying to appeal to a specific demographic? Who am I asking these questions to?

Why not come up with other cool titles that begin with the words V For... In fact, you can even swap letters and say things like D For..., or even X For... Example, V For Verisimilitude, B For Bryan Adams. Have fun kids!

I can't read japanese so I don't know what all that text said, but judging from the wierd music video editing and the music that sounded like a ripoff of the Properlerheads song from the Matrix's lobby scene, I'm guessing their trying to use the whole "from the people who brought you The Matrix" gimmick for the advert.

... Except now with Japanese text slapped all over it. No new footage to speak of... Matter of fact, that had LESS than the original trailer. At least the actual movie is getting praise. Seems like no one knows how to market this one yet.

this is a speed up and funky version of the original trailer with a shitload of it cut out. And quite honestly its not cool at all unlike the American ones.

They're not making the comic into a movie; they're appropriating its name. The message seemed a bit subversive, so it was thought best to leave it out. "Appropriating its name"? Not from what's been posted on this site. Sure, this trailer SUCKS ASS (and anyone who says otherwise has no fucking taste) but I mean, you could make a trailer for Taxi Driver or The Godfather or something that also made it look like this one makes V look. I'm optimistic about the movie, and one bad trailer doesn't change that - trailers are pure marketing and often don't have anything to do with the movie in question. Look at how they marketed THE SIXTH SENSE with fucking heavy-metal-backed TV ads. Or KONG with Coldplay. Or, you know. I think the message's gonna be there, and the reviews that've appeared here certainly corroborate that view.

but on teh plus side they don't have too many money shots and never give too much away, so the actual movie viewing might seem better... but y'know... doesn't sell it too well... but if it's working for the Japanese, what me worry?
