Sideshow gives us a detailed look at Juggernaut's suit and Beast's hairy package!

Published at:  Jan 07, 2006 4:21:21 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Sideshow toys is doing a pre-order on their X3 super expensive geek toys and so they have released images of their sculpts for Juggernaut and Beast. (Thanks to Doc Falken for the heads up!)

CLICK HERE TO SEE 'EM BOTH!

I really like the way Juggernaut looks... he's really damn creepy and while I miss the brick red dome, I have to say the costume doesn't look bad on him. Although, he does look a bit like Ram Man from HE-MAN, don't you think? Either way, it's cool lookin'.

And as for the Beast... Sideshow did top-level work as usual, I just really don't like the look of the beast... It looks like they got his feet right and that's about it. It's like they didn't want to do Hank McCoy in big human form, but also didn't want to do full on furry Beast. After seeing the work that can be done on digital hair recently with Kong I would have loved to have seen a Kong-level character with the Beast. I just wish they hadn't met in the middle... Maybe I'll like the Beast more in the actual film. I hope so. What do you folks think of the designs?

I think they both look pretty good

    by ribbons

They've also both been altered a bit for the film. Not necessarily for the better, I might add, but it's probably one of those things where the maquettes were harder to translate to a real-life medium than they thought they would be. Eh well. But Sideshow did some good work with these statues.

Totally looks like Ram-Man. Scraptch that: it IS Ram-Man. It's either intentional or some production artist is subliminally reliving his childhood. Also, if they could digitally insert that Beast character into "Brokeback Mountain" as the Heath Ledger character, I will go see the movie.

    Pretty Good Job

    by mr. luddite

I think the sculpts do a pretty good job of bridging the gap between 2D comics and Living Breathing characters on film. Logical changes have to be made to translate any character from one medium to another. A lot has to be taken into account when an actor is having to pull the character off instead of the ink and paper versions that we all know and love. I think Harry is being a little to sticky over the look of Beast, since he has had dozens of looks/variations over the years in the comics, I think they did a pretty good job of boiling it down into a persona that true fans can recognize and that the actor can work with while creating a performance onscreen. Lets not forget the rabid rants of yesteryear when the first Xmen film was in production and the images/news got out about the changes from the classic blue and yellow suits! Those would have been kinda hard to work convincingly onscreen without major modifcations. The last two films have been some of the best comic adaptations ever put to film, and they managed to do it without silly looking spandex. Nuff Said!

Instead they went with nude blue chick *yawn* ... in terms of 'theft', since Juggernaut predates He-Man and most of the Masters of the Universe, one suspects that Ram-Man (how's that for a Brokeback Mountain character dying to happen?) was cribbed from Juggernaut in the first place.

Juggernaut looks great I think, Beast, I was less than enthused when I saw him BUT thats just teaser footage, lets wait to see how he plays out. To put this in perspective people lets think of these famous words : "Hugh Jackman as Wolverine? Oh this is so going to fucking suck."

The description says this was an early design for Juggernaut and Beast, they even go into detail how Juggernaut's designed changed from this to the final version in the movie... Personally I think this early version of Juggernaut is waaaay better than what ended up in the final version of the movie. Just the fact that he has a shirt on in this version makes it less noticable how painfully fake the muscle suit is. And why would they make his helmet smaller in the movie version just to match better with Magneto's? Its stuff like that that really pisses me off. I can't wait to see Storm do a tornado punch. Right. Eff this.

I never watched the He-Man series but from the name alone, it sounds like he was derived from Juggernaut...and how many costume variations can you give someone whose whole super power is running head first into stuff ? Anyhow - back to the point - expectations are high. (In my case, higher than Superman Returns. I'm still not sold on that. "Returns" from where ? Is it linked somehow to the Reeve movies ? At least "Batman Begins" implied in its title that it was a reboot. ) I would be a helluvalot happier though if The Beast wore pants. by triumph poops!

Actually yes. Reeve's movies 1 and 2 still take place..."Returns" gets wedged in after that...and then technically Reeve's 3 and 4 never happened. Or so the story seems to go. Personally, while I can sort of tolerate Superman 3 (I thought the Clark/Lana scenes were good) I'm perfectly content to toss Superman 4 into the trash bin. Seriously, who the hell will miss the Nuclear Man and some of the all-time WORST bottom of the barrel special effects EVER put on film? Oh, as for the statues -- they look all right. Juggernaut looks somewhat similar to the comic incarnation (it's a guy wearing a big helmet) and the Beast basically seems all right. Though like others have noted and asked, I can't understand why the hell he lost his package. No wonder his character is such the intellectual book reader. You would be, too, if you had no ability to ever get it on!

I mean, it's an unofficial sequel to the first two. It's not actually supposed to replace canon, but you could look at it that way if you want. The "...returns" angle works two ways, in that regard: the franchise returns and, in the movie, he returns to Earth from Krypton.
