    first episode was great

    by punto

sure, it had that weird dialect they use, which takes a while to get used to, and all the characters kinda look the same with all that dirt on them, so the first episode was hard to foolow, but it had the best 'western duel' I've ever seen. I always thought western duels were too forced, like they were making all this drama about meeting at noon to face each other and stuff, but the duel on deadwood felt completely natural (I didn't even see it coming as an actual 'duel', just thought 'this might get ugly').. it was amazing.. I wonder why they didn't do it again in 2 years.

    by fiester

Look nerdlings: just because something gets cancelled does not automatically make it better! Celebrating and prizing rejection may be the most effective manner in which some of you deal with your own woeful social lives, but the metaphor does not extend to ever other aspect of life. Carnivale was cancelled because it was slow and confusing, couldn't decide if it wanted to be Flannery O'Conner or Ray Bradbury, and withheld any sort of viewer payoff in more maddening ways than "Lost", all of which eroded viewer confidence that the writers had any idea of where they were going with this trainwreck. Nice atmosphere is not enough to carry a show. It's gone, so is Firefly, let them go.

I still smile when I think about Bullock marching across town and beating the snot out of Mrs. Garret's good for nothing father. Now Bullock's the law, and I'm left hanging. I'd love to know when the second season hits DVD.

Since we're on the topic of Carnivale. I read an interview with Carolyn Strauss the uber-bitch president who states the two seasons told the story very well and she felt it wrapped the show up nicely. Did she SEE the damn season 2 finale? Knauf had a 6 year story planned out. As much as I love Deadwood I would trade it in a second for another season. At least HBO should finance one episode which would attempt to tie things up for us.

    feh, Carnivale deserved its fate:

    by newc0253

let's face it, carnivale didn't do itself any favours when it came to winning an audience. it had a lot going for it in terms of its concept, actors, style and perhaps the best cinematography of any tv show i've seen. but there's a big difference between bucking conventional storytelling (good) and wilful obscurity (bad), and carnivale spent two seasons going to the wrong side of that line. the second season finale might have seemed tantalizing to some but to me it just smacked of "fuck, we don't know how to end this so let's resurrect the big bad - it doesn't matter that we haven't really bothered to explain it because, damn, we haven't bothered to explain anything else for the past two seasons".

How 'bout a final season of Carnivale, instead?

    by scrivener

Most people will agree that Deadwoods season 2 has started fizzled out. So with no Rome to worry about, why not give us our final season of Carnivale? There has never been a better show on television and we never got any of the answers promised in the pilot. How does the age of magic end? Is brother Justin dead or being revived? What about Jonesy, is he dead? Did Sofie get knocked up? Is she the avatar of evil? Daniel Knauf sold a 3-season story arc and every fan who listened to commentaries for Season 1 knows it. Give us our final season - give us our closure - and give the greatest show ever to grace a television screen the finality it deserves.

There are no answers to be given the writers are great at coming up with mysterious premises but they never have any answers. This kind of writing is basically a Carny game in itself it draws people in takes their money and leaves them feeling empty. Around season 4 of Lost this will also become apparent.

Dillahunt coming back to play a third character? That would be TOO FUCKING SWEET. The man is awesome- it'd be too sweet for him to come back each season as another face- who knows? could happen- her4e's the reasoning- Initially it was reported that Earp would be in season III and that Milch was gonna "cast big"- then the word was that Earp WOULDN'T be appearing after all- this could def. be a ploy so that the casting doesn't get out... And why would he want to leak news taht Dillahunt would be playing Earp? Too many morons would complain- meanwhile me and you and everyone involved in the fucking show know how awesome Dillahunt is and would like to see a tradition of him playing different characters each season- he's definitely capable... You might as well get used to it because this will never stop. The story was just starting to head toward a logical conclusion that fans saw coming a mile away (the clues are there if you're paying attention). I'd be happy with a graphic novel, personally... or a 3-episode miniseries to tie up the remaining story... or any fucking thing at all. You can't just leave people on a cliffhanger at the end of the second act like that. It's also very un-HBO-like.

    Sopranos

    by emeraldboy

The first Three seasons of the the Sopranos tied with the west wing's First three season were some of the greatest Drama Series ever made. Both Shows were. For different reasons. The Sopranos was a grittily realistic take on the modern american mafiosi. West wing had the sweep, the great acting, the production values, I mean that set is stunning, all of those things made it compulsoary viewing and My mother watched the West wing up until her death which was at the end of season 5. The problem with the sopranos is you can only keep watching a show about scumbags for so long, untill you realise that you cannot keep glamorising thugs for an indefinite period. Ill end on a sarky note. Drea's gamble in leaving that show paid off, didnt?
I came out of Match Point and turned to my friend and said Hollywood seems to be making a real effort in making films which make audiences think and discuss. I know that Talkbackers hate when networks do that. Look at the the reaction to lost. On my DVD I am currently watching Tinker, Talior, solider, spy. The landmark tv drama which was Alec Guinnes tv debut. It left me thinking why did it take US tv so long come up with an intelligently written, well acted, excellenly produced drama so as the west wing.

    West wing continued

    by emeraldboy

Series four of the west wing was the point where Sorkin was fired. The show entered the JOhn welles era and declined quite quickly in my opinion. But Empire magazine disagrees, they thought Season 6 was simply brilliant and said that the show had return to form. But i am not to sure about that. Season 7 looks like being the last I dont doubt sorkin will end that show on a high. I never saw the 9/11 show that he wrote but I heard it was bad. He wrote it one day, I wonder why?

They don't want to do a movie

    by bass ackwards

HBO asked about doing a two-hour movie, but the producers basically said there's no way they could do it as a movie, I'm guessing whether that be a three or two hour one (and too me, I don't know if that would be the case if the show truly only needed one more season).

  • it could be sponsered by Pampers. afterwards they could all get a fucking grip on reality and move the fuck on. HBO is responsible for putting some of the most original and top quality programming on television, but all these self-absorbed whiny-ass Carnivale fanboys can see is their little show got canceled, as if HBO should have kept it going JUST for them, despite the vast majority of the rest of HBO's PAYING audience not giving a shit that its gone.

  • Listen to the audio commentary of the episode where they kill Adriana. She says the producers told her in the middle of filming a scene where shes in the hospital for her bowel syndrome to give her motivation. She jokes like she's bitter but she actually sounds pretty upset about it.

It's because of the posts by Deadwood fans here..

    by jaguart

That I was prompted to give the first few episodes a chance. I was so hooked I burned through both seasons in two weeks. Its some of the best entertainment I've ever seen.

Then I don't care WHAT they do with Deadwood... or Carnivale, for that matter.

    Deadwood

    by puds38

It's been mentioned in the Variety that Milch and HBO are in talks to approve a 4th season of Deadwood.

As for Wyatt Earp, I have it on good authority that he appears in episodes 8 & 9 played by actor Gale Harold. I've also been promised pictures in a few weeks.
