Russell Crowe and that GLADIATOR flick of Ridley Scott's.

On Friday, Garth gave you his report on what Russell Crowe had to say about the whole "Wolverine" rumor. Well the same source material also contained a bit on GLADIATOR, that's the Ridley Scott DREAMWORKS flick that's gonna begin shooting in February of 1999. What will be weird as hell is that Warners could have had their ALEXANDER project off the ground and running, but they stalled on it, and now DREAMWORKS is moving ahead on a pic set in ancient Rome. I guess some studios lead, while others follow...

Now to the business: The following was taken from Russell Crowe's live online chat at Ninemsn on Thursday, Sept. 24. Here's what he had to say about the gladiator film and about the rumors of him starring in Bryan Singer's X-Men movie:

"I have almost a deal with the Ridley Scott film. I'm into the second month of preparations and we start shooting in February. It's really up to Dreamworks at this point in time, if they can find a budget for it — recreating Rome in 1998 costs about 80 million. As Ridley says, "They're in the supermarket and they're just picking which shelf things come off." [About the X-Men] I know Bryan Singer, the director, and he's talked to me about it and he says I'd be perfect for a comic book character, but I'm not sure how to take that! I'm unfamiliar with the history of the X-Men but he's a very talented fella and probably one of the best of his generation. At this point in time I haven't read a script, so as far as I'm concerned I'm not involved at all."
