SIMPSONS 7!! GILMORE 5!! Herc's Super-Exciting Season-Box DVD Vault!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!

Though “The Simpsons” is currently in what I regard as its eighth substandard season in a row, I still revere this series as one of the four finest sitcoms ever produced, alongside “Cheers,” “Fawlty Towers” and “The Larry Sanders Show.”
In my view, “The Simpsons” didn’t start to go off the tracks at all until the start of season 10.
Season seven is a treasure trove of comedy genius: Milhouse is cast as Fallout Boy, Ned adopts Bart and Lisa as foster children, Bart sells his soul for five dollars, newly minted vegetarian Lisa is enraged by a propaganda film from The Meat Council, Homer decides to gain 61 pounds so he can claim his obesity as a disability, Homer discovers his fugitive mother is still alive, Sideshow Bob escapes prison and demands an end to all television, Bart gets banned from a store for stealing, Monty Burns replaces Otto on a winning bowling team, Bart menaces new neighbor George H.W. Bush, Marge’s new outfit lands her an invitation to a country club, Krusty’s tax problems force him to fake his own death, Lisa learns disturbing facts about Springfield’s founder, Burns fires Smithers, Bart befriends the true creator of Itchy and Scratchy, actor Troy McClure dates Selma, Bart rents a car and drives to Knoxville with Milhouse and Nelson, a greedy Burns hires someone to kill fellow former vet Abe Simpson, Apu must pass a citizenship test to avoid deportation, Homer meets Cypress Hill and the Smashing Pumpkins and becomes a rock-tour novelty act, and Lisa hides her dorky nature from her new beach-vacation friends.
The first episode resolves the “Who Shot Mr. Burns” cliffhanger from season six. The season also includes “22 Short Films About Springfield” and the 3D “Little Girl Lost” parody in “Treehouse of Horror VI.”
Extras include commentaries on every episode, loads of deleted scenes, dubbing in four extra languages (German, Japanese, Italian and Portuguese) on one episode.
At the moment, it's only href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&camp=1789&tag=aintitcoolcoa-20&creative=9325&path=tg/detail/-/B000BQPC42/qid=1129436155/sr=1-14/ref=sr_1_14?v=glance%26s=dvd">$32.48
, which means it's actually cheaper than seasons two through five.
As the illustrations above suggest, you get your choice of two covers: href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&camp=1789&tag=aintitcoolcoa-20&creative=9325&path=tg/detail/-/B000BQPC42/qid=1129436155/sr=1-14/ref=sr_1_14?v=glance%26s=dvd">The Simpsons: The Complete Seventh Season (Conventional Edition)
and The Simpsons: The Complete Seventh Season (Marge-Head Edition)
. Choose wisely.

The other big deal streeting this week is Gilmore Girls: The Complete Fifth Season
. We’re currently in the show’s sixth season, so I trust an elaborate recap isn’t necessary. It starts right after Luke and Lorelai snog for the first time, and right after Rory loses her virginity to married ex-boyfriend Dean. It ends with Rory quitting Yale following a bad performance review and moving in with her grandparents - and with Lorelai proposing to Luke. In between, Emily & Richard reconcile, Lane falls for Zack, Rory falls for Logan, Lorelai has a (temporary) falling-out with Luke, and there’s a Tarantino-themed party to attend.
And if I'm not mistaken? This may be the first "Gilmore" set that actually includes a commentary track from creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who is every bit as funny as her characters. It's on the episode in which Rory jumps from a great height.
One of the best seasons of one of the best things ever to emanate from a cathode-ray tube. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, it makes me do a combined laughy-cry thing.

you have to order the season 6 box. i was just too lazy...
by iamnicksaicnsn
So when you say "be careful" of the one you choose, or whatever, does that mean that the normal box has less stuff than the shitty marge head?
-
I believe both Simpsons 7.x sets are identical.

Cool beans.

"alec baldwin.. but.. but he's the best actor EVER!" p.s. hopefully matt groening will sue that shitty band fallout boy because they suck and the kids across the hall are playing that terrible hit of theirs at full volume during exam week. fuck fallout boy.

Every time there is a post like this I scan the upcoming DVD's hoping that Perfect Strangers will be among the list. I simply can NOT believe that it hasn't been released yet. I wish there was something I could do. I guess posting in the Talkback will have to suffice.

Holy cow Herc did I just lose some respect for you on that one. Granted, I don't get a SINGLE BIT of old school Brit humor, so the likes of FT, Mr Bean and Ab-Fab has never made me even crack a smile once from all that I've seen (& I say "old school" to cover my ass because I feel Ricky Gervais's work is genius, though I don't know of the UK itself, or the rest of the world for that matter, would necessarily call that "Brit humor") and though I personally don't like any of it, I can respect where others would I suppose. But still, top 4?? Hell in my mind "MASH" is #2 ever behind only "Cheers" (& for the record "Larry Sanders" and "Seinfeld" duking it out in a tie for 3rd). C'mon, I gotta have another guy of my generation back me up on this, MASH is so deservingly in that top 4. geeesh.

It's not just Herc. So show Basil some love, mmmkay? .... I wonder if the Quantum Leap 4.0 set will have the new version of the theme song on the eps?
-
C'mon Fox, you know you're going to eventually! Where are our 3 season box sets of Herman's Head!?!? "You must wear the panties of death!!!!" "What exactly are the panties of death?" "Oh nothing. I just picked the two words he's most afraid of. Panties, and death."
-
I didn't catch it on that list, but the Canadian duo of Keeny and Spenny have a DVD out of their early episodes on CBC.
I highly recommend anyone interested in shows like Jackass or anything even close search for it on Google and/or amazon. -
"Tour of Duty" ran for what ?? -- one season ? And it ranks an ammo-case box set ? Is each ep on it's own disc ? I don't even know why I remember this series at all. What the what the hey ?!?
-
I think he's telling us to choose wisely because with both versions being released for sale you won't have the option of buying the "Marge Head" and sending away for the "Conventional Head". I got season 6 in the "Homer Head" and sent away for the regular box ( still waiting ! )
-
Didn't see it in any stores, but then again I wasn't looking that hard. I was gonna get it for a friend of mine for Xmas but then I decided I only like him $20 worth and K vs S is closer to $30.
-
... it's more that I get the vibe that he's spending in the $ 20 range for me and I don't want to go overboard. You know how it is.
-
It is just a cartoon, though I cant think of too many classics recently, I still see many quality episodes. Just have to see some of them again and again before I say "Simpsons sucks" "George Lucas Raped my Childhood" while youre at it. http://www.geocities.com/pageiv71/Michigan_Partisan.html
-
Considering you see single-season special packaging for series with half the number of episodes, I think Tour of Duty is allowed to get away with it for the entire run. Plus it is relatively affordable. It comes to $28.45/season, or $1.47/episode. Plus you get the footlocker. Better than the Combat series (5 seasons, 152 episodes for $240). That's $48/season, or $1.58/episode. The there is Star Trek season 1 with itsfancy packaging. $104 for 29 episodes ($3.58/episode). Of course we all know the Star Trek DVDs are criminally overpriced.
-
"Zey do nuffink!" Heh. Classic.
-
Miami Vice, season 2, the best season IMHO.
-
Herc, you're dead-on with the laugey-cryey remark. This show must be what they had in mind when they coined the term "dramedy". Palladino writes scenes that leave you hanging between laughter and tears like nobody else in the business. Lorelai's "I'm a bad mother" breakdown this season was the most absurdly moving scene on TV this year. As for those who say introducing a dog automatically means a show has jumped the shark, I say watch this show and try to tell me Paul Anka doesn't fit right in with other crazy inhabitants of Star's Hollow.
-
Jesus, which World War I veteran's head do I have to cut off to get a break around here?
-
Anyone hear of when HBO is going to release the first(and hopefully not last) season?
-
where do I go to order one?

WELL!!! Looks like Veronica got nothing when it comes to the GLOBES!!!

It's out now in Canada. It has a later release date in the US. I'll just watch that when I'm done burning out my CLONE HIGH DVDs.

Hype, sounds like you need some tampons to stuff in your mouth. You HATE M*A*S*H*? What the hell is your idea of quality television? And ScrumDildo, real men don't need to buy the GG DVD, as we've already seen the episodes when they originally aired. You people really need to get over yourselves and find a site devoted to ragging about things you know nothing about.
-
I hate it with a voracity that knows no equal on this earth. It's just not my cup of tea, fellas. I second the calls for Carnivale season 2. That lame Lisa Kudrow show whose name escapes me already has a street date, why not Carnivale? Does HBO have something against Mr. Krabs? I think they do...

It's not on the list but I believe the 2005 series of Doctor Who (which they keep calling series one) is gonna be on sale Febuary 14th...
-
....because the latter two are my wife's favorite shows. Oh well. She tolerates the Simpsons, Family Guy, and Night Court reruns from me. Plus, I think I've got her hooked on Lost.
-
Which isn't difficult when (A) the brilliance of John Cleese is on display, (B), the characters are so phenomenal, and (C) they only have 12 episodes so they could make them all terrific, as opposed to the many mediocre cheers episodes scattered throughout that show's 500-episode run. (my favorite being "Simon Says," of course).
-
So far, this season has been wretched. Were it not for Family Guy and (most) episodes of American Dad, I would have given up Sunday nights already. I can't think of a specific point at which the show "jumped the shark," but it's definitely in decline. A change of writers would DEFINITELY help, and a recommitment to the roots of the show--a la South Park--would make the show funny again. But, even with its obvious flaws, the show still has some great moments.
-
www.Simpsonsbox.com go there and get a free box plus shipping of course but its only 2 bucks.
-
Red Hat Ladies and Sideshow Bob in Italy. Didn't think Treehouse was that bad either. Lisa/Cemetary sucked though.
-
Simpsons was great when it was new, fresh and edgy. Now it's like a fun party guest who has stayed long after the party is over. Simpsons jumped the shark when they showed Homer jump Springfield Gorge for the 50th time.
-
wish it was that way
-
The Homer head came with an insert that gave step by step directions on how to order the box. Did this somehow escape all the people who own the Homer head? When the set first came out there was a flurry of news stories on sites like this one about ordering the regular box. I'm perplexed by all the wustions. If you own the Homer head than you should know how to get the regular box. Yes I ordered it and yes I received it. Yes I'm a nerd.
-
It was pretty subtle and quick, but the recent episode "The Italian Bob" featured a scene where Peter Griffin appears in an Italian book about notorious villains with the description "Plagiarissimo" (or something like that) and the next page has Stan Smith with the description "Plagiarissimo de Plagiarissimo." SIMPSONS is obviously showing its age, but sweet little touches like that are helping it age a bit more gracefully.
-
I never thought a Sideshow Bob episode could suck so much. That murderous baby was just embarrassing.
-
I figure it's all a scam to get your name and email address so they can sell it.
-
Beware Mark Maguire
-
It's not as good as you might believe. It's not really a "box" in the sense that it doesn't have a top. It's still better than that stupid Homer head.
