A Bruce Campbell project available only on video!
|
Glen here…
I know a lot of you out there are fans of the very cool Bruce Campbell. Between three EVIL DEAD film adventures, numerous appearances on series such as HERCULES and XENA, and playing the title character in the odd but fun TV fantasy / western THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR, Campbell has become a beloved SF & fantasy genre fixture.
Nearly as interesting as his actual accomplishments are the numerous near misses which have come his way in the past few years. For example…if memory serves…I seem to remember hearing that Campbell was *briefly* considered for the lead role in BABYLON 5, when the part became vacant due to actor Michael O’Hare’s sudden departure from the series. Of course, this gig ultimately went to Bruce Boxleitner - and the rest is history.
More recently, Campbell was to serve as the host of a "Tonight Show" style talk show for the Sci Fi Channel. The show would have featured numerous guests and talent from the Science Fiction and Fantasy film, television, art, and literature industries. Music guests could have included bands like the group Bill Mumy and Miguel Ferrer play in, or director John Carpenter’s rock group The Coup De’Villes (whose music can still be heard in a few Carpenter films, by the way). Alas, the Sci Fi Channel decided there was no public interest in such a concept, and the notion of a genre related talk show was summarily dismissed.
None the less, Campbell is still doing some cool and interesting things. One of them is taking the lead role in a project called RUNNING TIME. I haven’t actually seen RUNNING TIME yet, but I can point you to a web site which has a lot of information about it. RUNNING TIME is a real time story, shot in one take, about a botched caper. It is roughly 70 minutes long, and is directed by Josh Becker (who has directed HERCULES and XENA episodes). Becker’s numerous credits indicate he has spent a great deal of time with Campbell and frequent creative cohort Sam Raimi, so RUNNING TIME should be very interesting both conceptually and stylistically.
For more information about RUNNING TIME, JUMP TO THE JOSH BECKER WEB SITE THROUGH THIS LINK. I am told this is the only place one can obtain a video copy of the project, so Campbell fans might want to seize the opportunity to grab one before it’s too late. The video is available in PAL format as well, by the way.
So there you have it. Hope this is of interest to some. Enjoy!!!
