A Bruce Campbell project available only on video!

Glen here…

I know a lot of you out there are fans of the very cool Bruce Campbell. Between three EVIL DEAD film adventures, numerous appearances on series such as HERCULES and XENA, and playing the title character in the odd but fun TV fantasy / western THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR, Campbell has become a beloved SF & fantasy genre fixture.

Nearly as interesting as his actual accomplishments are the numerous near misses which have come his way in the past few years. For example…if memory serves…I seem to remember hearing that Campbell was *briefly* considered for the lead role in BABYLON 5, when the part became vacant due to actor Michael O’Hare’s sudden departure from the series. Of course, this gig ultimately went to Bruce Boxleitner - and the rest is history.

More recently, Campbell was to serve as the host of a "Tonight Show" style talk show for the Sci Fi Channel. The show would have featured numerous guests and talent from the Science Fiction and Fantasy film, television, art, and literature industries. Music guests could have included bands like the group Bill Mumy and Miguel Ferrer play in, or director John Carpenter’s rock group The Coup De’Villes (whose music can still be heard in a few Carpenter films, by the way). Alas, the Sci Fi Channel decided there was no public interest in such a concept, and the notion of a genre related talk show was summarily dismissed.

None the less, Campbell is still doing some cool and interesting things. One of them is taking the lead role in a project called RUNNING TIME. I haven’t actually seen RUNNING TIME yet, but I can point you to a web site which has a lot of information about it. RUNNING TIME is a real time story, shot in one take, about a botched caper. It is roughly 70 minutes long, and is directed by Josh Becker (who has directed HERCULES and XENA episodes). Becker’s numerous credits indicate he has spent a great deal of time with Campbell and frequent creative cohort Sam Raimi, so RUNNING TIME should be very interesting both conceptually and stylistically.

For more information about RUNNING TIME, JUMP TO THE JOSH BECKER WEB SITE THROUGH THIS LINK. I am told this is the only place one can obtain a video copy of the project, so Campbell fans might want to seize the opportunity to grab one before it’s too late. The video is available in PAL format as well, by the way.

So there you have it. Hope this is of interest to some. Enjoy!!!

    Campbell Movie

    by rob abrams

My friend saw this movie about a year ago when Bruce came down to Champaign Illinois to premiere it. My friend said it was only so-so, and it may be a dissapointment for hard core Bruce fans.

    Running Time

    by jeff shores

I'm no professional, but from what I can tell, the "suspension of disbelief" is an excuse, while "real time" is in your face.

Unless, of course, your recliner is located behind an extremely aggressive potted plant. Then, you must decide if you'll make an equally agressive action (Hint: Move the potted plant). Or, as an even greater drastic measure dictates: Fire up the weed-wacker (whacker?)!

    This is Jeff signing off...

P.S. Your Opinion: Chainsaws; weed-whackers, what's the difference? Evil dies!! Right?

I know someone who saw it too

    by smutgirl

I know someone who saw Running Time, and they said it's Bruce's best performance since that Homicide two-part episode he did. (He was great in that, btw. There's a lot more to Bruce than just the ED trilogy.)

    Seduction of the Innocent

    by cephas

Just a mention: the group that Bill Mummy and Miguel Ferrer are in is called SEDUCTION OF THE INNOCENT. They are a folk-rock group. I actually have their CD which was released by Beat Brothers Records and is caled "The Golden Age". The label number is BBRCD 6003 and the other band members areMax Allan Collins, Steve Leialoha and Jay Gruska. The whole CD has titles referring to various super heroes and such, but are NOT about comic books with the exeption of teh song "King Jack" which is about the comic book king Jack Kirby. I haven't really listened to my cd in over 7 years but I love having it cause it's such a rarity. I'd be willing to make copies for anyone interested in a copy if they just send me a blank tape and pay for shipping. Emale me if interested. :-D "Peace and B Cool!"

    Running Time cost

    by gerry k

While Josh and I have been working very hard on the website, we also have been working on how to release the film on our own rather than going through someone else.
In that process we worked on a price that would be low enough for fans to buy while protecting the film from being bought up by video stores at a low price for re-rental without royalties going to the film's director.
Other low cost videos are put out in mass quantities with little cost to the compaies putting them out while also expecting them to be picked up by big chain companies like Blockbuster. Also these low cost films usually have ads to pay for the drop in cost.
Normal first release prices on films are ususally over seventy bucks, we didn't want to do that.

BTW, I was a co-host of the Chamapaign Illinois "Freaky Film Festival" last year and found almost all reactions by the audience to Running Time as very positive. I have my own copy and enjoy showing it to my friends whenever they come over. It is a fantastic little film.
Absolutely the best work that either Bruce or Josh has done to date.
