Drop Your Drawers! A SILENT HILL Teaser Is Here!

"Moriarty" here with a quick correction. This is not the teaser trailer for the film SILENT HILL. Instead, it's an animated tease done just for the website. As I understand it, Sony's still working on the teaser trailer, and as soon as that's available, we'll make sure to give you a peek at it. For now, I whole-heartedly echo Harry's enthusiasm for Christophe Gans, and I want to see what he's been up to. Anyway... here's the original article:

Hey folks, Harry here... The Teaser Trailer for Christophe Gans' SILENT HILL is here and goddamn does it look exactly like a film I want to see. Gans will emerge as one of the big directors one day, I'm positive about that, and SILENT HILL might be that gateway film for him. I know I very much look forward to the point where Gans can make any film he wants. His vision is one I'd love to see given to his grandest dreams as a filmmaker. This movie can't get here soon enough...

Hey Harry,

Just thought I'd drop you a line to tell you that the Silent Hill teaser trailer is out. Looks to be amazing and I'll be damned if it doesn't look exactly like the game. Check it out. It'll have you shivering (the good kind) in no time. By the way, this was told to me by "First" at That's where the credit's due. Enjoy!

If you use this, call me

I can't get it. So, I watched Spike Lee's new movie INSIDE MAN and the trailer for that instead. Look good. Awesome cast. Kind of a different departure for Spike; kind of actiony. Anyway, foaming at the teeth to see this Silent Hill trailer.

Yeah, I finally got it up. No need to worry. I love the images, though. Isn't this based off of a video game? Sorry, my Geek tentacles don't reach that far into nerdyness. If it is, THAT'S how you make a video game movie. Are you listening Uwe? Oh, forget it, you won't listen.

    Just gotta point out...

    by BigTed

... that that isn't the official teaser trailer. It's the intro to the newly opened website. Unless I missed a memo and it's actually both. But it totally works as a teaser trailer anyway, so I don't care. The two music tracks you hear are from SH3 and SH1 respectively, and yes, Akira Yamaoka will also be composing some new stuff for the film. The website, with some neat pics, can be found at It may be premature to judge a film based on a flash based teaser from a website, but it would appear that the key to adapting videogames to film is to a) respect the source material, and b) adapt something with a narrative that actually suits film. Don't let me down Gans, you're golden at the moment.

I think I might have to see this....

    by occams_razor

Nice teaser, I was hoping for something new since I already saw this as the intro but I'm not complaining since it's creepy and wonderful. Looks like they are going for an atmosphere similar to the game which is better than giving everyone push-up bras and katanas and a bitching rap/rock soundtrack. I sure do hope this movie is a good as it could be. I forget which game it is, Silent Hill 3, I think where you go in that one room with the wall-sized mirror and the sink and after a few moments the blood comes out of the sink and things go all kinds of bat shit weird? That has to be one of my favorite scary moments in any video game. Well, that and the dog ending...if anyone knows what I'm talking about and/or has an MP3 of that you have to tell me where you got it cause I love that fucking song.

    disjointed trailer

    by occams_razor

I don't think the trailer is supposed to make much sense, kinda like the games. The random, disjointed, disturbing images is typical Silent Hill goodness and I just hope that the movie continues that kind of atmosphere. Well, that, and the dog song makes an appearance. arf arf arf, arf arf arf, arf arf arf arf arf....beautiful.

    by Neosamurai85

I think 10. I'm a very happy geek right now. Gans... bless you. I've been sceptcal, but tried very hard to keep optimistic about this. That tease was exactly what I needed. Pure Silent Hill fan bliss. Still think they should have cast Kim Gordon in a nurse role or something. A little Sonic Youth on the credits would be good. Either way, looks very kick ass. I really like the Pyramid Head tossing carrion bit at the end. Hands down the best slasher stalker character design to come out in years... I know that's not saying much, but I mean, Pyramid Head is scary. Jason ain't real scary... anymore at least... but see Pyramid Head coming towards you with that big ol' knife... you gonna piss... da fucker is just plain scary. Peace.

And yeah, that sink scene is one of my favorites too. Silent Hill... perhaps the last series that will ever really scare the living shit out of me... I feel old... Peace.

    most excellent

    by JackDonkey

one thing I hate about horror movies is when something jumps up in your face and you jump. I mean if that makes someone special for making a scary movie because of that, that takes about as much talent as making someone feel pain by punching them in the face. Silent hill the video game is awesome cause it creeps you out, like the static radio/monster detector from silent hill 2. This trailer seems to hold true to that, lets hope the movie does too.

Still Nervous About the Flick's Quality

    by DumbPunter

Ok, I am like most of you that I love the little teaser. Its very Silent-Hill-ish, and the reason most of these movie-adaptations suck is because they still assume videogame movies need to play it down to a younger audience and so they remove the maturity that are inherent in many of the games. Now I know Resident Evil games aren't Citizen Kane quality, but they're a hell of a lot more interesting and better directed than the films. So having a film that actually LOOKS like Silent Hill isn't a stunning directorial revelation, but it certainly seems to have eluded most filmmakers. HOWEVER, looking at the promo shots, I still can't get over how insanely cheap the Cop Girl + Uniform looks. Is she a carryover from Anderson's Resident Evil or what??? Specifically, she's not problematic in her costume if it was matched to everything else, but considering the somber tone of the surrounding atmosphere, she sticks out like a dead hooker at a Police Enforcement Convention. What the hell man?? Am I alone on noticing this??

This looks like an actual movie that will actually scare you rather than just give you a fake "oh that was cool" thrill with a nu-metal/mallcore soundtrack. Please don't pander to the dumber than dogshit "Scream" crowd. Make it like it was meant to be made. We don't need another Resident Evil clogging up the Access Hollywood airtime when they could be providing aditional airtime talking about what an amazing movie "Brokeback Mountain" is, even though nobody will go see it except for guilty white liberals and the 2% population that is gay in this country. by Drathan

Hey, I gave it a try to their movie poster contest, its at (scroll down a bit for the blog). Tell me if it sucks, I can take it. Basically I just took the one image from their pool that represented the most of the movie's message (the mother searching for her daughter in the nightmare world) and just added fade ins with the other major charaters (Cybill and Dahlia). Yeah, they changed the gender of the protagonist from a father to a mother, but thats alright. As long as they are faithful to the spirit of the original game.

Dahlia Gillespie is in this movie?

I heard Cybil Bennet was in it, but I figured that was just Cameo. Is this movie a remake of the first game? I was hoping for an original storyline that just fit into the story of the games. Either way, I can't wait for this.

Though I think minimilism would fare better... check out one of your competitors... I'm digging the one of the right, but the other one is pretty cool too... I say... ditch the taglines... let the pic do the talking... but that's just my opinion.

  • Maybe you were turned off by the old school graphics of PS1 and well it's understandable... maybe you got lost looking for that one key... and I can understand the frustration of that too... but if you've never bothered to check out SH2 or 3 then you're missing out. And 3 needs 1 to be played btw. Also I liked SH4... sure it left out many elements of the SH games and focused on combat and less puzzles and reused levels. But I felt it was rather cleverly done... I loved the first person view and the exorcisms, and you've gotta admit that the Walter storyline kicked ass!

    by Johnno

Yeah apparently it is... I was hoping for one that fit the game's timelines and sorta echoed a retelling of the beginning. but hey it's looking great.. still wish they could've stuck with Harry. but I'll see where Gans takes it...

    SH 4

    by Neosamurai85

Fighting words indeed... The Room is hands down the weakest chapter. Like you say, due to the fact that it isn't really a Silent Hill game. Sure it's not quite Halloween 3... but... Halloween 3 is barley even itself... if that makes sense... That all said, for a train wreck of a game it sure had it's moments. Little gems like the train station that(though it did run the Jacob's Ladder theme into the ground) was filled with imagery out of Midnight Meat Train, which is my favorite Clive Barker story. There was also the very nice apartment world, which was a blast to explore. The Hosptital was a let down, but fun art gallery to wander through. There are more fualts than I'd dare try and list. The nurses, which are the key spice to all Silent Hill games were a sad joke. In fact, just about all the monsters were a let down... though the slugs were pretty fun to splat. Monkey men are not as scary as Pendulums or any of the othe body horrors previously faced. Ghost grew to flat out piss me off. It was cool and a nice challenge... until the room stopped healing. The new fighting mode was interesting but was a trade from diversity that I'm not sure was even. Having Clare or whatever her name is follow you around for the secound half of the game... the hate is endless. God she can fuck up a good plan! The Room was cool, it get's redundent, but it was the least of my worries. I like the atmosphere in this game. It has a nice dream unease. And there is something to be said for the dread the begins to flood the second half. But honestly... I quit at the second go at the prison world. I keep saying I'll go back. I even started over to get rid of that damn doll that curses your storage chest. But really, at that point the game gets hard in a bad way. There are games that are hard and challenging, and then there are games that are hard in a way that makes you no longer care. The fact that we are going BACK THROUGH EVERYWHERE YOU'VE ALREADY BEEN really takes the "but I want to know what happens next" eleiment out of the motivation. Oh, and mr. gothy boy with the chainsaw... he ain't no Pyramid Head... not in a million years. I like the story, I like the feel and everything going down in the first half... but I've yet to spark the motivation to finish it. At this point they're probably the only frnchise (I've really faded out as a gamer) I still play, so I hope they learn from this outting. Experiment away... try new things... but let's leave this as it is, or at least make it another frnchise... Room 2 better be rooted in Shelby Jr's novel. That would be the biggest mindfuck they could prossibly make. Peace.

    "the Walter storyline kicked ass!"

    by Neosamurai85

Hell yeah. The story was great, just having to run from the guy was not very scary. All in all after the decent in SH2 this just felt weak to me. But were it a force on it's own, I think it would have worked much better. Granted, I love the tie ins. All the little Details to the world of Silent Hill. Stuff that keeps floating up from past stories. I really miss that town. They really ought to have someone visit it again. Maybe with PS3 they will have the power to have the entire town in a game for the first time. Peace.

Dare I say it, but we could have a candidate for best video game adaptation. I remember that music from the games and I always loved that moody little tune. Throw Sean Bean into the mix and I think this is very promising. I just went from meh, to VERY excited. Let's hope it delivers.

Once that stupid girl start following you around, and you have to revisit all the worlds again, I just gave up. I didn't care anymore. Haven't played it since it came out, probably never will. Oh well.

That scene in SH3 with the room with huge mirror and sink that filled with blood totally freaked me out too. I actually got so freaked out I never finished the game. I never got the dog ending. But I think that was that in SH2. I've never played SH4 though. From all accounts it is the weak link in the chain.

    The mirror scene

Was one of the most fucked up things about teh game. I didn't know what the hell to do... had to read a walkthrough just to find out. my personal favourite in SH3 though was the entirety of the haunted house. You just knew some shit was gonna happen! That body just dropped outta nowhere! FUCK!

  • Dec. 11, 2005, 1:18 p.m. CST

forgot about the haunted house in SH3.

That part was awesome. I also liked the mutated horses on the carosel. I think you had to beat them to stop the ride, lol.

Yeah... got to love a nod to Suspiro. Silent Hill always was the text book for how to do a horror movie right. Hope all involved with this actually read it... I think they did. Peace.

  • Maybe even have a lil fight with Cybil? If they do, I hope they use the SH3 atmosphere... maybe with a bunch of those murdered bunny mascots... But yeah the carosel... maybe have the horses be live ones wrapped in cellophane, twitching an 'shit... freaky...
