The DREAMGIRLS Teaser Trailer Online Now!!

Published at:  Dec 07, 2005 8:53:50 PM CST

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

Dreamworks is about to start pushing DREAMGIRLS imagery on the public, a full year out from the release of the film. There’s a standee that’ll be in theaters any day now, a sizzle reel that journalists are going to get a look at, and a teaser trailer that you’ll see in front of films like THE PRODUCERS and MUNICH all Christmas season.

Click Here And Step To The Bad Side!! Be warned. Some of the buttons work, and some don’t yet. Something to do with tonight’s debut of the trailer on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, most likely. You can download the trailer, though, so it’s definitely there for you to see if you’re interested.

Looks like they know how to sell the film, and I’m damn sure Bill Condon (KINSEY, GODS & MONSTERS) knows how to make the movie, so is this already looking like one of the big players for Christmas 2006? I guess we’ll know in about 360 days or so.

"Moriarty" out.

    by seppukudkurosawa

Terry's statement that "your average suburban white fanboy geek could care less" was probably intended to mean COULDN'T care less. Don't hate me for correcting you Terry, it's just my job. However, seeing as the average suburban white fanboy geek is in possession of repressed homosexual tendencies I think your original statement, that they COULD care less, would make more sense. In fact, though I doubt they'll all go see this flick, I'm sure they all care a hell of a lot...you know they all opt for the fellatio porn over the lesbians, and why is this you may ask? Because they like the sight of a male porn star's ugly member...a lot.

I mean, we didn't get to see any of the movie, but the song was awesome. I first read the plot of the movie and then watched the teaser, and it was emotional. Her voice is powerful but it sounds sad. I guess it's because I know that she's going to be pushed out of the group. Poor Effie.

    by seppukudkurosawa

Lenny, that terrible, over-used song, "I've got the power", was written just for you. What does it feel like knowing that just by typing a few words you can get a person banned? Though I have to say, in Nintendo's case it's been a long time coming. As far as Dreamgirls goes, I never was much of a fan of the Supremes, except maybe when they were duetting with other bands I preferred (The Four Tops, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles). Maybe it was because of Diana Ross' reedy singing, or the fact that there were just so many brilliant girl-groups to choose from around that time, all making brilliant pop-songs. Bands like The Shirelles, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and the Shangri-Las all interested me a hell of a lot more than The Diana Ross Group. So unless they make a story about The Shangri-Las, and trust me there's one to be told, I'll have to skip this one.

    Disappointing

    by plum

The teaser and this thread. First things first- the teaser just wasn't made very compellingly, and they cut Jennifer Holliday off in the middle. I think it's a dumb idea to use her voice in the first place, because Jennifer Hudson isn't going to sound like that, but doing that weird edit towards the end just made it worse. Now on to this thread- shut up, shut up, and yes, shut up. Hey you, white suburban frat boy or whoever the frack you are- are you the kind of poster who'll turn around in another thread and scream at anyone who "stereotypes" Talkbackers as pimple-faced fanboys? Make up your mind. And let me point out the blazingly obvious- comics are a marginalized genre, just like musicals. Like musicals, they used to be in the middle of mainstream culture, but have been shunted aside. And like musicals, their fans are stereotyped. So get over yourself; loving musicals and looking forward to DREAMGIRLS isn't any more or less dorky than loving comics and looking forward to X3. And for the last time, this isn't about the Supremes. Oy.

    by cabsau

BAAAAAD Move. I hope Jennifer Hudson knocks this out of the ballpark and steals this mother. Fracking over-rated Beyonce can't act and I think can hardly sing. I'll give it to you that she's beautiful, but I'm sick of her bad acting in movies. The lame songs in this show should however be suited well to her limited vocal ability. Jennifer floored us a few times on American Idol, I suspect the possibility of (and hope for) a steal on this one.

    by reckless

I think some people underestimate the drawing power of the "Dreamgirls" name to the core audience that will be excited by this film so early -- fans of Broadway. Dreamgirls was a legendary production that never had a full cast recording and has rarely been revived. For a teaser, the biggest thing was pushing the name of the film.

I understand why they used the Jennifer Holliday recording of "And I'm Telling You," but that could backfire if Jennifer Hudson proves unable to provide similar power in her version of what is the show's signature song.

so far, looking at the talkbacks for movies like say, "marie antoinette" or "pink panther", no one is really saying those movies don't "belong" on AICN. sure, people think the trailers suck or think the director sucks, or the actors, the music, whatever; but no one has really said "oh man, this isn't cool", or "why is this on the site?" i don't really give a shit if all you morons don't like foxx, murphy, knowles, glover, or don't like the color blue, that's fine. but to just go off on a movie b/c the content is foreign to you(a "Black" movie) or you don't think "Black" movies should be apart of AICN is ludicrous. its also like i said before and like i will always say when i see the kind of shit i read on this site... it is racist. just calling a spade a spade. and to the assholes that will try to make a joke from that statement, the pun is fully intended. i wonder what many of you would've written about "the color purple", "amistad", or "a soldier's story", to name a very few. you people need to open your minds and realize not everything is about the x-men, peter parker, and japanese anime. i guess josh town would call those "serious" movies, right?
