X-MEN 3 announcement teaser in Quicktime & HD Quality!

Published at:  Dec 05, 2005 11:55:37 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here - well gosh. That was the teaser trailer - and through it all I never really got a sense of Hank McCoy or Warren Worthington III other than shots of em. And there sure do seem to be big gangs of mutants all over the place - but like we'll see all of em ever doing anything. I believe we refer to most of em as redshirts. I guess what I'm kinda most perturbed about is the idea that they're not really adapting anything that would be super cool to see. I mean - like HELLFIRE CLUB or SENTINELS or... well you get the idea. Just so long as the spin-off Wolverine adventure film involves Japan and Silver Samurai and ninja clans. Problem with the teaser is that I don't really feel teased. Sorry we didn't get this up earlier, I was at SYRIANA (great film) and Quint is off in New York at the KONG premiere... and Moriarty... well, I don't know what he's up to. Here ya go...

    by eg4190

Still scared by that script review, but it looks like there's finally going to be lots and lots of mutants going at it. First two movies felt way too small, especially the first one, where at the start of the movie, the entire X-Men school apparently exists to serve as a front for only three practicing adult mutants. And the Brotherhood has a huge underground evil lair, complete with prison cell, for like four members! Ratner has already surprised me by keeping most of Singer's look and feel while making it bigger. Have a feeling this movie won't be able to overcome those script issues, though.

It lacks the visual panache of Bryan Singer

    by psalmolive

The X2 trailer was amazing. This just seems run of the mill, and frankly, I get some "Fantastic Four" vibes from it. We need some well construced sequences (like Nightcrawlers at the beginning of X2). There was also no cool humour (like the cat licking Wolverine's claws in the X2 trailer) Also, the lighting looks more standard fare action film (read: Fantastic Four) than the nuances in X2 and the first X-men with plays of light and shadow- not everything all high-key (not to nitpick, but it definitely comes across that way, but it does affect the way I perceive the film)

    we want bigger jugs

    by teddanson37

ratner forgot we fanboys like big jugs, and the ol' jugs just ain't as big as we like 'em. but for real, juggernaut is the part that craps this trailer up for me. and not the suit so much as the helmet. and no matter what you guys say the helmet is not the same as any version from the comics. you see way too much of his face. but whatever. i think we're all in unision that xavier and cyclops should not be killed off...ever. but on a more personal note, i think beast looks great, even more so since i've watched it probably like thirty times by now. and isn't callisto supposed to be really hideous or something? thumbs up on the angel wings also, very nice. i'm excited. anyone hating on it now is just a hater thru and thru. this looks amazing. and sure it doesn't have sentinels or the hellfire club (who wanted to see a bunch of fancy mutants blowin up people with their pinkies in the air and using their trademark chess piece names. that would be craptastic.) the script is the key. if the script is true to the characters we know and love this film will rock. and if this movie lacks anything it lacks the awesomeness that is apocalypse. 'nuff said.

Leave it to Ratner to land the Blackbird in on Castro St.) Nice that Rothman and those fuckers at FOX at least try to keep some visual continuity and keep it faithful to Newton Thomas Sigel's cinematography. by teddanson37

i'm pretty effin tired of hearing...bryan singer's x-men was the bomb-diggity, bryan singer's x-men was ground breaking, bryan singer and stan lee should shack up and make some love babies, bryan singer is the chosen one, bryan singer is a really cool homosexual...that's crap. what singer did with the x-films is something that was safe and relied mostly on the performances of ian mckellan, hugh jackman, patrick stewart, and later brian cox. his movies were great because he staid true to the comics. he didn't have sentinels or the danger room or the hellfire club or gambit. he did something safe. he staid in the realms of the comic book and limited his films by focusing in on one or two characters and giving the rest of the guys three lines apiece. i'm not saying bryan singer isn't a good director. i'm just saying i don't think his x-men films were as good as they could have been. and at the time i was excited to see my childhood heroes up on the screen, but in retrospect his films fell way short of what i see in my old comic books. this film looks closer to something ripped right from the pages. summary: bryan singer is not deity

The fastball special is a Danger Room sequence only. After that, you won't see Colossus til he stalls the Juggernaught at the end. I have a friend who has been 100% reliable when it comes to news on Fox projects, and he has the X3 script (post Ratner - dated June 2005) Most of the X-Characters have at most 15 to 30 seconds screen time, except Beast, Wolverine, Storm, Magneto, and Jean. Everyone else is mostly background filler.

    by darth thoth

What more do you haters want? I mean I'm not the biggest Ratner fan out there either but let's at least give the movie a chance. Give him a second to try and get a feel for the universe. Was it cool as the X2 trailers? No, but it was still pretty cool... much better than Superman's new trailer! Let's give the movie a shot before we condemn it from the jump. My goodness. We could nit pick all day. Did Beast look bad? Yep. Ditto for Juggernaut. But come on, it's December (granted the movie comes out in 5 months) but still, let's at least give Ratner and them a fair shot and also some credit where it's due. The trailer was definitely different in feel from a Singer X-Men trailer but it was still very cool and let's at least acknowledge that. You know?

    Don't forget boys and girls

    by violet grey

The X-Men movies take place in the "real world", so there is definately a line that won't be crossed in terms of how things look. Juggarnaut might be 12 feet tall in the books, but that just doesn't fit the universe created to fit the films. This was set in motin with the first film so it wouldn't become a fantasy picture. The sabre of reality cuts both ways.

Beast looks iffy. I applaud the effort to get a real actor on the set and to try and make it look real (theres that word again) but if this is what we get I'd just as soon prefer they left him out. Thee are just too many things that don't fit in the world they made, and I'm afraid he's one of them.

If I had to make a trade off in terms of charecters, I would ditch Storm for Cyclops in a New York minute. The have her more to balane the gender scales on the cast than for anything else considering she's such an un-dynamic and humorless charecter. Or is she just being portrayed by and un-dynamic and humorless actress?

I don't mis Nightcrawler. He was visually cool, and it would have been nice to see him in a proper X- uniform, but the gimmick of his charecter was going to get old really quick. I was never happy with the portrayal of Iceman so they could probably ditch him and I wouldn't care. Same with Rouge. Somehow, having her as some whiny kid just doesn't do it for me. Collusses will get nothing more than a glorified cameo, which is sad, but having him off screen keeps the budget down since every shot would need a CGI effect or three. Shadowcat? Why even bother? The only charecter they ever get "right" in the movies is Wolverine, and you know what, I'm just not on the Wolverine bandwagon. Never have been. He's cool enough when he's mouthing off or ripping the kidneys out of some poor fuck, but other than that, he's just a pain in the ass to Cyclops an the oddy capitivating figure of so many adolescent mutant girls dreams. I've enjoyed the X-Men films thus far, but I don't think I'm going to miss them when they are gone.

    also... about Juggernaught...

    by w3bzpinn3r

In this movie, he is merely a mutant able to control his kinetic output so he is unstoppable once he starts moving. No magic. Also, Magneto mentions to Pyro that Juggernaught is Xavier's half-brother, not step brother, whom Xavier had put away. They never mention it again. But Juggernaught IS more than Bane. He and Colossus get to play human wrecking balls when they fight each other.

or better yet... they hide the fact that Juggernaught can grow m

    by sirbiatchreturns

sure, it would have been cool to make him massive from the start, but maybe they can make him start at normal height, but grow into this 12 foot guy when a fight needs to go down. that way we would think that Juggy looks like a POS until we actually show up at the movie and find out he still becomes badass.

Am I the only one who thinks the part where Jean rips the doors

    by spectrebeeyatch

I'm sorry but why put that in the trailer, the doors are so obviously made of cardboard. That was only a small thing I think the trailer showed me nothing and was boring. Magneto tossing a car, we've seen this, Wolverine fighting military baddies, we've seen this. The Golden Gate bridge part looks cool but everything else has a been there and done that feel. I think Beast looks fine, Juggernaut looks awful, they should have brought Sabertooth back for the henchman. I really have no hope for the film now, oh also I like how in the teaser trailer they basically show you who is going to die, it is so obvious!!!

    by w3bzpinn3r

I have an original copy of X-Men 12, the first appearance of Juggernaught. He's at most 7 ft tall in that and muscled much like a pro wrestler. It wasn't until the late 80's/early 90's that Juggs got 20 ft tall and 10 tons, with muscles on top of muscles that don't even exist in human anatomy.

    by chaka

Am I alone in thinking the lack of Cyclops or Prof X in this teaser is a bad sign? I never liked the treatment Cyclops got in the 1st 2 movies, and was hoping he would get his due in part 3. He's the team leader ... he deserves good screen time and action.

    by chorleyfm

(well except for Beast and Juggie). I like the teaser, and I agree with those who say that it pisses on the Superman one, but I can't get too excited yet. Beast rellly does need some touching up or something, the colour pallet is really off, most of Nightcrawler's scenes where darker and that made him look better.

    by zardoz

Wow! That was the coolest thing in the trailer for me. Visually it looks awesome, I just hope the script isn't the same awful shit I've read about it. Not sure about the Dark Phoenix costume. (and yeah, it looked like two pillows were being tossed out of the way when Jean zapped those med-bay doors) And the make-up for Beast and Juggy ain't what I'd hoped for, but still not bad. As to Angel: well, that dude who plays him really seems to fit physically, but I guess time will tell about his acting. And is that Kitty Pryde as the other X-Lady? or Jubilee? Still, Petey tossin' Wolvie for a long one was wicked cool! I still have high hope sfor this one, but I do fear the worst will come of it...

    by novaman5000

Part of me thought it was cool, but part of me thought it looks like a 2nd rate version of 1 and 2. Not that they were perfect films, but they were definitely solid. Oh, and it definitely looks like Cyke and Prof. X are D-E-A-D... which as you all know is so lame. I liked the action, but I thought the music, at least the beginning synth beats were completely out of place. Also, I kind of thought her blowing the doors off was cool. I liked that they just blasted off like they were nothing, but maybe that's just me. Beast looks silly but how can you really make a furry blue science man not look at least a little silly.

All in all it's a little exciting but I fear that the desire to cash in on a summer release will lead this to be a shitty end to the trilogy.

Superman wasn't supposed to be exciting so much as it was supposed to be "oh, cool, a new superman" I think. Which it did well. They're two totally different trailers. By comparing the trailers, I'd say Superman looks like a better made film though. What we've seen so far of X3 looks sort of just... average.

That damn trailer was cutting too much.

    by billybobhoyle

Just some random thoughts. The trailer jumped around like super fast. Except when Magneto was giving his one line speech and when Famke blew open the door. And the previous two guys were right. The door looked fake and Famke has a nice ass. Think Brett Ratner is going to do ok. Unless the movie is cut like the trailer. I think he did an ok job with Red Dragon. Some major problems with the trailer though. Juggernaut should be way way bigger than that. Maybe it would've cost a lot more to make him all CGI, but one huge Juggernaut would still kick ass compared to 100's of other extra mutants that do nothing. You'd think 10 flying mutants flying into action would make pecker twitch, but it didn't. Then again, it could be just me. Finally Cyclops and Prof. X better not die. I hope they are finally done with Magneto, this is the third film with him. Bring on Apocalypse and Archangel.

    teasers

    by kuryakin

I hate this new goddamn trend of releasing 'teasers' or even teasers of teasers half a year in advance of the film. I can't wait that long you bastards! Anyway after clicking through the bugger there are things I like and things I don't like. I'll wait to see the movie before judging - it doesn't look so obviously shit as Fantastic Four did but there are some things I have issues with. Never really cared for Juggernaut anyway but I have to agree he looks fucking awful. Beast - I dunno man, he doesn't look all that beastly but there was about a tenth of a second of him fighting, or at least waving his arms like he was fighting, so lets hope they have some of that crazy acrobatic stuff.. Actually, you know in the 70s when Johnny Cash started to develop a kind of middle-aged spread and grew his hair out? That's what I think Beast looks like

    by kuryakin

I know we're going to hear the same arguments from people about both these characters that we heard about The Thing - that originally in the comics they didn't look the way they do now etc etc.... Thing is these X movies ( and FF) seem to be increasingly looking to the Ultimate universe for characterisation/plot points/style. Or at the very least, based on modern writers' ideas (such as Mr G Morrison or Mr W Ellis) and cod-scientific explanations of X-universe stuff. Instead of wacky shit like magic helmets and pet dragons it's all wormholes and string theory now - anyway the point I'm making is that the argument that 'back in the day' they looked like movie Thing/movie Juggernaut is kind of spurious when the film-makers have no regard for 'back in the day'

    by steve rogers

Yeah, Ratner is a hack. We all know it. But it's possible he might have made a good movie here. Let's look at what the teaser actually gives us: a) Fastball Special - everyone moaned for years they wanted to see this. b) The Danger Room - everyone moaned for years they wanted to see this c) Large Scale Mutant Battles/Destruction - everyone moaned for years they wanted to see this d) Juggernaut - everyone moaned for years they wanted to see him (Yeah he isn't 12 feet tall - get over it!! The X movies are going for a realistic "not too distant future" angle, remember?) e) Beast - people moaned for years they wanted to see him (I personally think he looks pretty cool and Grammar is great casting). f) Phoenix - people moaned for years they wanted... DO YOU SEE WHERE I'M GOING WITH THIS YET? Clam up and wait until the movie actually sucks first, guys. Which, of course, it very well may do (I don't have faith in Ratner, but hopefully Marvel and the actors will manage to keep the quality level of the franchise up).

    by dr_buggerlugs

...from the visuals alone, it could be Ratner's best looking film by far - he's not a director with much of a palette - but it looks pretty. Killing off Cyclops is a bit of a rubbish idea (if it's true - the floating glasses and general lack of presence in the trailer indicates that) but then again, even if Marsden hadn't gone to do Supes, I doubt he would have got more screentime as it was - this looks a lot like the Halle & Hugh show, but if you got a pair of big stars there, you gotta meet their needs, even though I wouldn't have minded less Wolvie presence this time around given that he's had two films devoted to him as it is. I'm not too fussed about the killing of Xavier; it might give the characters good motivation and bring a better sense of urgency to the final act given thay they're fighting in memory of a lost loved one. I hope Ratner hits it outta the park but my money is still on Superman being the one to beat.

There comes a point where you're being intelectually dishonest just to support your point (which in this case is "Ratner sucks"). I'm a huge fan of the first 2 movies, even though in retrospect the first one, honestly, wasn't exactly spectacular. But your point about how this isn't adapting something directly from the comics is ludicrous, given that the first 2 really didn't either. (Maybe a slight whiff of "God Loves, Man Kills") I like Singer. I'll see Superman. I was hoping he'd make X3. But from what I've seen so far, this looks pretty close to the spirit of the comics, moreso than X-1 and X-2, and looks to offer the type of full-on battle scene we've (admit it) been waiting for, even if it is in the Danger Room (which , come to think of it, everyone's also been crying to see and Singer didn't offer). I was holding out, and still am to an extent, but I'm now oficially excited by this.

And I specifically remember the cover with the cracked ruby visor. Of course, like everyone else in four color, he eventually returned ... but there is a funny-book precedent. Personally, I'm take great offense to the Wolvie/Storm hookup that was in the AICN-reviewed draft. Now, that's just stupid. I'll see "X3" and hope for the best, but if you think it's gonna be better than "Superman Returns," you're just deluding yourself. Ratner is a competent action director with no gift for story. Singer is one of the best story guys Hollywood has behind the camera.

I mean, come on! You don't show funeral scenes in teaser trailers! Especially closeups of the people AT the funeral. Kinda easy to tell who bought the farm eh? Beast just looks ridiculous. Remember the old Moss Man action figure from He-Man? That's the first thing I thought of when I saw him, well only blue instead of green.

Not digging Tina Turner as Storm either. That scene where she's spinning like a top and punching people looked incredibly stupid. Maybe it'll get reworked like the 'Wolvie thrown off the Statue of Liberty' scene was.

And the music! Do they hate Singer so much that they'd completely rule out using music from his movies for a teaser? They obviously still love his set design though.

I realize that much of the action was from a danger room sequence, but I still think they showed far too much for a teaser. Hopefully this won't end up like MI:2.

    Why Harry mistrusts Ratner

    by prof.ikamono

I'm going to use a metaphor designed to piss off you homophobic gits. Say your dating this guy and you find out he's a lowdown two-timing cheating dog. He comes back to you begging, whining, "oh honey, I slipped up, just once, never again, I swear..." Sure enough you catch the bastard shagging your best friend in your bedroom. You throw the bum out, you kick his sorry ass out the front door and say get lost you skanky pig. Harry's been burned, Ratner has given him NO reason to trust him and every reason not to. How many shitty fucked up movies does it take? Harry's so called prejudice is not some irrational bias like you haters who call anything you don't like "gay" but the hard learned experience of one who has been let down over and over again. (as for the gay thing, isn't it funny that "straight" Ratner has more hot guys topless than "gay" Singer ever did?)

I can't join the bashing in good faith...

    by mattchew

I read the script review from a few months back. I know what may be projected on screen in May... But I can't help but feel that this trailer looks truely epic and the all out war and serval major deaths is completely fitting for a final film of a franchise. I guess when I read the review I just felt like... How are they deciding to do all this and how are they gonna make a decent X-4. Sounds like 'The Last Stand' WILL BE the 'Last Stand' which gives them a bit more room to stray for the books, imo. As for the trailer, YES some of the characters could look better but I'm guessing Grammer's Beast will be AMAZING regardless, and Juggs will probably be in to seconds of the movie anyway (think Toad). The rest of the trailer looks great, and while I'm not thinking this movie is on a 'X2' level (which everyone feels the need to bash, in order to support X3... which is stupid... Youloved it then, you love it now... shit the fuck up) I think it will at least exceed X1, and that's all I've ever hoped for for this flick.

    by uncooked_meat

Well, now that I've had some time for it to steep, and I've watched it 35 times... I liked it. Didn't love it. A couple of gasp moments -- fastball special, more colossus is always a good thing. Beast still looks goofy, and Juggie looks really goofy, but I'm ok with him not being 9 feet tall. I just wish they had simply gotten a bigger guy to play him, instead of putting Vinnie in a Bane suit. But those gripes aside, it has serious potential for large-scale mutant mayhem, which is something that frequently occured in the comics, but never in the films. So... I'll simply have to wait and see. There are some seriously nasty plants in this talkback though, which is kind of sad.

    Not Too Shabby

    by machinaman

I must admit that when I heard that Brett Ratner was doing the next X-Men film, that I wasn't expecting all that much, though looking at the trailer, I think that perhaps Mr. Ratner will show some vision.

Though some things rub me the wrong way in the trailer, like: Storm's martial abilities. In the comics she was never the hand-to-hand combat type of person--remember she was worshipped as a goddess at one point--and to see her going Gymkata on someone doesn't quite feel right.

The Juggernaut. From the shot of him being restrained he looked no larger than the average human. I am wondering why forced perspective wasn't used (which made the normal sized people look like Hobbits in LOTR) to make him look more massive.

The Beast. I get the sinking feeling that they are going to stuff him into some leather suit the entire film, a hint of which is seen in the trailer. The problem with this is that the Beast's whole animalistic nature (his acrobatic abilities primarily) precludes him from wearing much in the way of clothing because it would interfere with his movement.

Other than that, it actually looks pretty good.

Though part of me is still I am waiting for the massive shoe of suckiness to drop, which will make me wonder why a director with the vision thing was not hired for this project.

I was very pleased with the teaser trailer. I'm glad they are showing more with teasers these days and for all of those who have a short memory. The X2 teaser didn't show any footage and you guys are probably confused with that one. This is probably one of the best teasers I have ever seen but remember it's just a teaser, just like Phantom Menace was great at teasing us the movie was no where as good. So I'm still gonna be cautious and not raise my hopes plus it's better to keep low expectations. But while I wait till may I'm gonna watch this trailer over and over. It kicked ass!!!

    by mr. profit

Seriously, stop hating on X3. It's getting old. Ratner may be a total jackass in real life but you cant take away that he is a good hired gun. And Red Dragon was a good movie. It's no Manhunter, but it did it's fucking job. He also knows how to fucking make a movie look like they spent a couple of bucks on it. Singer on the other hand makes pale looking films and it's a shame that he is still getting a pass for his work on The Usual Suspects. Also annoying is how he can seriously work fanboys into fellating him endlessly online. X2 was only "Good" because it was better than X1. X1 was "Good" because it did not outright suck. But both films do not hold up with time. I tried to rewatch to see if I was wrong and I couldn't get through it. Especially after those Xena caliber fire special effects in Jean Grey's eyes. X3 may very well be the 1st good Xmen film. But then again it could suck really bad. But you can't make such a judgement by watching 2 minutes of video. And hey it was way better than the boring Superman Returns trailer that left my theater silent when it was shown. People cheered more for the Kong trailer and that shit has been on TV for weeks now.

Ratner is a hack. Yes, this is something we all know. And one cool trailer isn't going to change that. But this doesn't look completely terrible. Script Review to Teaser Confirmation *spoilers*

    by outlaw24

When I first read that early draft spoiler script review, I prayed it was just a "joke" script, one that had drastically been altered. Obviously, this teaser trailer seems to indicate otherwise. I understand these are movies and must take on a life of their own, but it just feels like such a betrayal of the world they established in the first two films. It just feels like rather than create the best possible story for the characters, they created a script that pandered to the actors they had in the film. Cyclops was casted with a lesser actor than Storm, so Cyclops gets slightly more screen time in the whole trilogy than Stan Lee's cameos. Only slightly, mind you. And to have him die in such a stupid meaningless way is such a slap in the face to the character. If it was just a comic, they'd have a dozen ways to bring him back before the end of the story. But since they're in the real world established in the prior films, he's just finished. Just like that. The death of Xavier sucks too, but that one I can see having some purpose to it (besides the fact that no one could ever replace Patrick Stewart in the role, and he probably won't be able to do it forever). Cyclops dying simply by being "vaporized" or whatever by Phoenix actually cheapens the later death of Xavier. If they want to kill someone off in a pointless way, why not Halle Berry? The character of Storm was never as important or interesting as Cyclops, ESPECIALLY in regards to a Dark Phoenix storyline. I think what bothers me the most about this is that it feels, to me, like a huge stain on an otherwise fascinating script concept. I liked a lot of what I read in that spoiler script review, especially the background stuff for the Phoenix. I don't know. I'm just worried this is going to tarnish what was otherwise a decent (not perfect or great) film series. With the title "Last Stand" stuck to X3, it seems like they want to make this the final film. Rushing through production to meet a release date sounds like a pretty good way to achieve that goal. Could Ratner pull this out? Sure, I have no problems with him as a director. I think Rush Hour is pretty funny. But under these time constraints, I'm not sure anyone would be able to hit it out of the park.

    a couple notes

    by keysersoze

and for those who hate spoilers, deviate from this post right now..........i can't believe they're REALLY going ahead with the whole "kill off xavier" thing. if you pause on the funeral sequence to see who is showin in frame, you'll notice 1) xavier and cyclops are absent (also, wolverine holding scott's broken glasses at the lake hints that they're gonna go ahead and kill him off, too...why, oh why?), and 2) moira is at the funeral. i can't imagine she'd be at the funeral of anyone EXCEPT xavier, can you? very annoying. why would you kill those two off? and i won't forgive them for the absence of nightcrawler. anyway...if you also notice, at the end when magneto is walking with his army of mutants, jean grey is at his left arm right in front of juggernaut (who, by the way, totally looks lame). and beast...yeah, so, did they just give him wolverine's leather jacket from the first movie and call it a wardrobe? lame. redeeming factor is the fact that colossus will be involved a lot more...you can't tell me you didn't get a couple chills in X2 during the attack on the mansion when he got to briefly do his thing. i'm holding out hope that rattner can give us something decent, but with the deaths of xavier and cyclops seeming to be actually happening in this one i'm not sure it's gonna happen. on the bright side...famke walking around in those short shorts in that one clip...YOWZA!

As usual, I think this fanboy complaining is blown WAY out of proportion. The Beast make-up is far better than I expected. You guys are all in denial. CGI isn't always the answer. As is the case for Beast. If anything it would have made the movie look faker with all the action that's going on in the movie. A CGI Beast would've stood out like a sore thumb more than a made-up Kelsey Grammer. Just imagine a blue "Hulk" standing next to Wolverine and Storm in these scenes. And seriously... what were you expecting Juggernaut to look like on film? I'm not the biggest Ratner fan either (although I hardly waste all my energy hating him either), but judging by this trailer, he's so far exceeded my expectations as far as his vision for the movie. And yes... this teaser's way better than Superman. You had to STRAIN to give that trailer a change, if you did at all.

I completely dug the hell out of this trailer and I think Brett Ratner's gonna surprise us all with a collective boot to our asses. I've gotten over my objections to the SHOCK!! GASP!! spoilers we've heard and learned to accept them for what they are. The first death--yes, I want something more. But it also feels like it works. As for the second, it's the place the comics have been afraid to go to for real, and it's the place they've always needed to. This will not be the last film in this series. It may be the last for the newly Storm-centric team, but check out that shot of Moira, Beast, Colossus, Kitty, Iceman, and Rogue at the funeral. There's the future of your franchise. Also, as I understand it, Magneto's little club in the trees there IS going to be called the Hellfire Club, with Phoenix being the Black Queen. (Joblo posted something about that a while back.) by brokentusk

And the reason people on this site constantly wish that Bryan Singer was directing this film is that he would have a. had a great input as to where the story went, b. he would have brought back his writers Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris to write the script (not the guy who wrote XXX2: STATE OF THE UNION), c. the film would have completed Singer's trilogy and would have fit in with the world he created on screen. Bringing in another director was not a good decision. I actually think Brett Ratner can be quite an excellent director sometimes (RED DRAGON), but having ANY other director jump onboard somebody else's series (cause, like it or not, this is Singer's X-MEN universe) is asking for trouble. This film might not suck, it might even be a lot of fun, but it won't be the film Bryan Singer would have made - and that's the film people really want.

What the hell Harry? They are doing the Dark Phoenix story (mixed in with
some of Joss Whedon's Mutant Cure story). Isn't the Phoenix story THE cool
X-Men story to see? I share all the worry that Ratner will fuck this up and
all, but there is plenty of material here to make a kick ass movie from the
source material. I know Giant Robots give you a hard on and all, but it's
not like there even is any particularly great story involving the Sentinels
except Days of Future Past, and methinks they aren't going to be doing an
Alternate Reality Future story in these films any time soon. I am nervous
about this movie, but it's obvious you are trying very hard to not like any
of the images you see from it at this point. Beast looks good. The teaser is

I completely agree. Although, this is a good teaser trailer, I am very apprehensive about the wonderboys Kinberg and Penn. Even though Penn is one of Singer's boys, I still have some sort of apprehension towards his writing. Definitly Kinberg I have a problem with. People may rave that he wrote Mr. and Mrs. Smith as a masters thesis?, but he did write that downright offensive XXX:2. Yes, that came from his brain. They use these guys as a quick job to get a fast script done. I don't like the sound of it. I think that this footage is good because it isn't showing much, just random cool mutant stuff which we all, as nerds, eat up. I think the overall product will disappoint. But, please prove me wrong, Ratner, Kinberg, and Penn. Prove me wrong.

Why is cyclops so upset though? he no look so happy :( did he just realize jean's gone? or does he get teased with her return only for her to join magneto and take her proper place in lead of the hellfire club, so when does she die again? will it be like every other movie? she dies, gets reborn cause she's the phoenix you know, that's what she does. Plus there is reference to a young jean gray(haley ramm), so we're going to get some background on her whole story. my fingers are crossed for this film

    Interesting...

    by _kayser_

It looks like they are merging the Dark Phoenix saga with the rise of the Brotherhood of Mutants in a Genosha/House of M style. Anyone else notice that the costumes have been modified a bit to look like the covers of Grant Morrison's New X-Men? It may fall short of the last 2 films but Ill still see it because Jackman makes a great Wolverine and I like Anna Paquin's junk in her trunk.

    by wackynephews

Where morons like Glenn the Tool can pretend they know something about producing movies. Fox execs hated X-men? Then why did they make it you fuck stick? And why did they make a sequel? Because they make money and they are in the money making business. Personal tastes aside they want the films to make money so while they may have been interfering on the set it was because they thought their interference would make a better movie which would make more money. Seriously, there isn't one exec in the history of the world who thought "I'll make a shitty movie and hope it fails at the box office because I hate the concept!" People think execs are petty little animals who'll fuck over someone or some idea because they disagree.Well, that's just fucking wrong and fucking stupid. If you are that sort of person and that causes your movie to tank, guess what you ain't fuckin' working in Hollywood again. Execs may be petty but they have better ways of getting revenge then fucking over a director, writer during production.

But the only way this film will deliver is if it surprises the hell out of all of us and turns out to be a 3-hour long goddamn epic. Which it won't.

    by shoulderdevil

the entire reason that the main new characters suck for me is the whole judge dredd complex. Because their big stars their faces must be seen at all time, thats why jugg's mask is all gladiatory instead of the traditional three hole thing, and the beast looking like the grinch, so you can see grammer's face. Could anyone see quicksilver in the brotherhood section?

On a side note, I don't think that the real problem with X3 is or will be Ratner, (I actually thought he did a good job with Red Dragon), but simply the script and direction they are going with the charcters. • Script review this, script review that. Even if that was the script (and the writers said it was an early draft), the reviewers admitted it was only 2/3 or something. No one has any idea what happens in the last act. So why don't people stop bitching about a script they've never seen and wait for the movie! Meanwhile, enjoy this kickass trailer. The movie is six months off, so I'm sure they're not done with Beast or Jugs effects yet, so we probably haven't seen everything. And I said it on the other thread, having Jugs be 12ft tall with his original helmet would make no sense. There's no mystical Gem here (thankfully), just a mutant and I'm sure Magneto gave him his helmet so he's not vulnerable to Xavier. And it's a movie, folks. We want to see the actors' faces. Everyone who bitches about adaptations and changes have obviously never followed a comic over a long run. Every artist changes the look entirely, especially when it serves the plot. Movies are no different. As long as it serves the story, I have no problem with it. Still wondering who the other 2 mutants are on that hilltop with Magneto, Jean, Jugs, Callisto, Pyro and Stacy X. Any ideas?

    by doom ii

Each X3 dvd may own a 7" space at your local Blockbuster, but not much else. Without Singer attached, I fear that X3 will be another FF. Instantly forgettable. How about the Ghost Rider movie? I place my bet right now that that one will SHOCK the fanboys on this site. Mark Steven Johnson proved on Daredevil that he has a grasp on the material he is directing, likes his material dark and Nick Cage is a self-confessed Ghost Rider fanboy himself. You will diss Ghost Rider until the day it comes out, but I have a feeling it will own.

I was thinking it was early in the film before anyone realizes Jean isn't actually dead. The crazy reaction shots of Marsden and Jackman ('Clops and Wolvie) would fit into this scheme, you know, they go to pay silent tribute at alkali lake and feel a pressssssence (cue creepy music) after they have already "buried" her.

And loved hearing Stewart's narration. Looks a lot better than I thought, especially considering how terrible the action in the Rush Hour flicks were (stagey fights, boring set pieces, goofy MTV angles), but man, he looks to have definitely learned a thing or two since then. Hopefully the the scriptwriters picked up some talent before writing this flick too (my concern for this movie was renewed after watching Mr and Mrs Smith last weekend, what a terrible flick, not even good in a mindless, fun action movie kind of way, and I have a lot more love Doug Liman than Ratner). But anyways, gotta put my lack of faith in this aside and admit that was a killer "announcement" teaser.

Singer and Ratner are about the same level.

    by josh town

Bryan Singer is really nothing special. The X-Men movies are far from spectacular, just above average action fare. I wouldn't be surprised if Ratners take on X-men far exceeds Singers versions. It might expose Singers flaws, though I can really only judge this mans talents after I view Superman. Ratner is still a hack in my book, but I think the X-Men movies may be one of the better comic book series to hide behind. Ratner will have a hard time with the fans, just because of who he is, but when it comes down to it, and you compare the three films side by side, I think the debate will be quite clear.

To everyone who is ragging on the Beast's look: I'm not sure what you were expecting. I mean, he looks like the comics version, doesn't he? Maybe you'd prefer if he was the pre-Amazing-Adventures-#11 Beast, with no fur and just big hands and feet? How boring would that have been? I think Grammer looks great. Juggernaut... eh, if they'd have just given him the ture Juggy helmet, I could've lived with his size. The helmet IS the character, dammit! Oh, well, a minor quibble. The rest of the trailer looks surprisingly great!

Which pretty much explains why FF was such a flaming piece of meh. I mean the freekin' back to basics Batman movie had twice it's budget. No wonder it looked like a fucking Xena episode. Best = Angel, Good = Beast, OK = Storm's hair, Bad = Twirly bird Storm, Really bad = funerals for characters that should not die, Worst = the score (I hope it just a temp track for the trailer).
Oh, and the bad Juggs design goes in with "Bad" with the twirly Storm. It could have been worse. I like the area around the neck, with the bolts and stuff, but some of it looks pretty fake. I hope there's some CG enhancement. And Beast's arms should have been longer. Oh, and in that shot where Magneto is walking straight at the camera with his clan, is that Gambit to the far left of the screen? He's the tallest one with a trenchcoat. Eh, I'm probably delusional, but if so, I called it first. Overall score for trailer = B.

    by gheorghe zamfir

Everytime a multiple villain comes up people saying that's what ruined Batman, its just not true. What ruined Batman was an extremely concious choice to make the movies ridiculous and campy, it didn't matter how many villains were in there they still would have sucked. Its not like if Poison Ivy and Bane were left out of Batman and Robin that Bat-skates and the hockey playing henchman would have become a classic movie moment.

X-Men has always been a sort of soap opera, espexially during the Clairmont years. I think it would make a better TV show than movie, barring the FX budget (memories of Mutant X flood my mind.... shudder)

It's true in part. An individual fanboy can wholeheartedly decide on what he wants and stubbornly stick to it nomatter what. Get a couple thousand fanboys together each individually bleating what they want and you have this TalkBack senario. "It sucks!" "It rocks! YOU suck!" "It doesn't rock but it's ok, THIS sucks but THIS is cool." "You all suck for liking it in the first place!" " You suck! This Rocks!" "This Rocks but HE sucks" "He rocks but his costume sucks" and so on and so forth. I've never seen such a passionate yet disorganized ball of chaotic opinions like fanboys. Honestly I don't even see what good we're doing on here since the opinions are so varied. It's like Mutant Opinion Stalemate. not bad at all...

    by drexl

While I don't think both X-Men movies are the best comic book flicks the industry has to offer I do think Singer did a pretty decent job bringing the X-Men to the big screen. His take is a lot more based in reality than many would like and it seems Ratner has kept that style. My expectations for this are low but I have to admit I actually like this teaser. Some characters look wrong though and there seems to be a lot of "been there, done that" going on. But: as this is obviously the final X-Men movie in Fox's trilogy (except the Wolverine spin-off) with this cast I do think they can end it with this one. I'm not a purist in any way and I think books and comics especially can be endlessly adapted to the big screen (or other media). Who knows, maybe ten or twenty years down the line a director will step up who wants to do more X-Men movies. And then maybe we'll have a ten feet tall Juggernaut or however the hell tall he needs to be. It's like Batman. The possibilities to translate stuff like this is virtually endless and some variations will suck, and others won't. The way of the game.

Now, somewhat off-topic: I don't understand the hate for Singer's Superman Returns. Granted, that teaser was not that impressive but it was a classy look at one of the biggest films of 2006 without having to use cheap jump-cut editing and big action shots. As much as I love hearing Brando's voice, I do hope Singer finds a way to define his movie from the Donner flicks. The amount of love he has for the subject matter is akin to PJ's affection for Kong and should be respected. Hell, I thought the Batman Begins trailers were not that impressive either and I somewhat love that film.
And another thing: Frankly, I don't understand Moriarty's talkback bitterness. Not to attack Mori's sensibilities and opinions but his unsubtle "attack" on Massawyrm for pointing out some important points about Narnia and the audience that goes to see it baffled me (granted, he went on and on about it but I do understand where he's coming from - I haven't seen Narnia yet though). I for one thought he would appreciate the Superman Returns teaser since I think he's one the more grounded guys on this site and doesn't need impressive visuals to get high on a movie (by the way, where is your Goblet of Fire review?). Oh well, the summer of 2006 is shaping up to be a slow one. I'm looking forward to Pirates 2, Supes and X3 among others but I fear a year in movies that will be uneventful. Let's hope I'm wrong.

LOOk at all these posts! You don't see this staggering amount of talkbacks for something that is uninteresting. And there'll be hundreds more in the coming days. And if these plant posters (i.e. interns) are so obvious than call them out. I have seen quite a few names I have never seen before on this site, however. I'd like to see what Joss Whedon could do with this franchise. Oh, and BRING ON KONG!!! By the way, I respect all of you.

    by nachokoolaid

If you say that, you honestly haven't seen the trailer for THE FOUNTAIN (also starring Jackman). That thing looks awesome. After watching this X3 trailer, I feel that I should have paid them money or something, because the only thing I didn't see was the end credits. It was a little too much. I hope the final trailer isn't much more revealing than this one, or I won't have to see the film at all.

My point is, everybody's history with these characters just throws their perspective on the movie out of whack. Some people will hate an otherwise good movie because it's not enough like the comic they adore. Some people will like an otherwise mediocre/shitty movie because it's "true" enough to the comic
(let me say, preemptively, that this does not apply to every soul who liked this teaser; I kinda liked it myself. But the people who are attached to Marvel at the hip know who they are). Or some people will like a movie for whatever reason. Like you said, these TalkBacks are especially tangled, and it's frustrating, because you can't even spit into the ocean without the ocean spitting back. If you didn't like the film you're a "hater" or a "naysayer" or whatever else has been co-opted by the hivemind and transformed into a four-letter word. That said, do I think Harry's going to be fair to this movie? No, probably not.

  • I really do loath Ratner. He is the greatest overrated hack next to Paul Anderson (AVP, SOLDIER, ETC.). BUT, after seeing this trailer I am pleasantly surprised at how good it looks. Funny thing is to all you naysayers... if this very same trailer was shown and Singer was the director, you guys woud be PRAISING IT.

Beast doesn't look that great though. He just looks too menacing and that wasn't what he was in teh comics or cartoons... he was intelligent. I know that Grammar will pull it off, the intelligent part, but as of now Beast just doesn't look right. The cartoons got him perfect. Jon Favreau should have been Beast damnit. But, all of us were worried about Nightcrawler when we first saw him and he turned out perfect so...! As far as Spider-man... give me a break. SPIDER-MAN 1 and 2 are two of the most overrated blockbusters I've seen. The first one was perfect in the first 40 minutes or so... and then Green Goblin came and fucked it up. And that CGI... terrible. Spiderman 2 was subpar... but still not that engaging. The thing I like about X-MEN is that it looks like it could be the real world. The Raimi Spider-Man films are just too comicy... it doesn't translate well, especially Jameson. Way over the top. Yeah he was like that in the comics, but it just feels lame watching it. I wish Maguire never came back to do Spiderman 2 (if you remember he was almost fired from it)... Jake Gyllenhal would have been MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Those movies are just overrated. They're like little kiddie movies. At least X-Men and Batman Begins now are engaging. It's believable. I know I know... Spider-man is a comic. But you can't tell me that James Cameron's version wouldn't have been MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Better casting. Better action. Better cinematography (sorry Bill). Better theme music. Just... better. It kills me to think that Spider-Man has the best opening weekend... I sit around and WAIT for somebody to crush it!

    (1) Harry, your constant complaining about this even after the teaser's debut is really beginning to remind me of your parody in Entourage. The only -- only -- thing I take issue with in the teaser is all the shots of Jean Grey. Yeah, she's hot, but a lot of people don't want to know yet that she's not still dead. (2) Moto's right -- if Singer's name was attached you'd all be jerking off to this teaser. (3) Wah, wah, main characters die, get the hell over it. According to the writers, they're making this as though it's the last film of a trilogy. Plus, you guys want a WAR, right? Kill some of the f*ckers off. (4) Cyclops has been shortchanged the whole series. He was completely absent from the middle act of X2. The series can't be perfect. Oh well. The movie looks good. Oh, I just thought of another hypocrisy: you guys think Brett Ratner's a talentless hack but then assume he's going to completely destroy the movie when the screenwriters and actors clearly have more pull than he does. He's a hired gun, that's all.

as for this trailer... i almost died after reading the script review, but this trailer has given me some hope... i know it cant be as good as X2, it may be on par with X1, but as of now its being labeled as crap until i see a new trailer, and read some set reports... i would see the movie no matter what just because its xmen and im loyal like that, so i dunno, well just have to wait til may 26 (3 days after my 18th bday... what a great gift...) and although i love superman and bryan singer, i pray to whoever's listening that by some miracle this comes out on top... id rather see superman die than the xmen die... plus im hoping that we can get an X4 after this, cause i still have faith that Joss Whedon can put his midas touch on the fourth to ressurect it from the pile of shit im expecting X3 to be... Although I have heard a lot of complaints about this teaser, what you and I all know is that we are going to see this movie either way.
    YES, Juggernaut looked pretty bad.
Yes, Beast looked like a smurf on a bad dose of roids.
What I disliked about this teaser, and all trailers in general, is that most of the time they give too much away, in this particular case, if you pay close enough attention, they show us at least one main character that is going to die.

    Some thoughts

    by jocutus

When I first heard some of the spoilers for this movie I was pissed off because of how it screwed with generally accepted continuity. After letting it lie for a while, it doesn't bother me so much, especially if this is the last X-man movie. It must be hard trying to come up with a plot that is both true to the comics and yet not a total retread of the stories everyone has already seen before. So they decided to go out with a bang and really mess things up, potentially kill off major characters and so on. Considering Marvel just reduced the world mutant population in the comics down to less than 200 muties, I can accept that choice. I can accept a totally divergent movie continuity - as long as it doesn't suck. Here's hoping.

Then there is the eternal question of superhero sequels: Why multiple villians? Well, Magneto is still THE villian as far as I'm concerned. Mustique is his second in command, and all the rst are henchmen. So at least he doesn't hire henchmen like Otis from the Superman movies. He hires superpowered guys to fight his battles for him, so as far as I can see having the multiple villians is the only logical way to go against a team of superheroes.

My only major complaint is the look of the Beast. I always imagined him more of a "short-haired" beast; fuzzy, not long locks. This is more of a cross beatween the Wolfman and Beast from Beauty and the Beast (and the current style of the comics. It's the large areas of just plain blue skin without the fur or hair that I didn't expect. A good performance could overcome these perceptions, but can Kelsey Grammer convince me he's a quick, acrobatic fighter like Alan Cumming did as Nightcrawler?

    Pretty Damn Cool...

    by lucienpierce

...Now look sure I've kept on posting defensive posts on Ratner. I think while he isn't the most dynamic inventive filmmaker around he does create entertainment (the REAL reason we go to movies). I haven't watched a film of his that I walked away thinking what a steaming pile. That said I think X3 is a major jump for him. Visually I think it looks pretty strong. It seems more colourful than X1 & X2 but still has an edge. I love the scale of the trailer. Storm looks hot for once. Phoenix looks badass. Cyclops was done incorrectly throughout the X movies so losing this version of him is no biggy. Superman I'm still a bit concerned about...to me it could swing either way, but this looks like fun, not earth-shattering in the least but I expect to leave the cinema once again not thinking it's a steaming pile. But I was a bit disappointed in the way Beast and Juggernaut look, I have a feeling that the designs were there from Vaughn's direction though so that blame can't go on a too-late-to-change-anything-really Ratner. I have a feeling that's what the excuse will be when X3 isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be...that all Ratner did was facilitate Vaughn's vision...watch this space heh

  • The multiple villains theory: I'd argue that the problem with multiple villains is when they take center stage. Batman Returns was really a movie about Penguin and Catwoman, while the hero remained a cipher. In Batman Begins, there were also several villains, but the focus remained squarely where it belonged. On Batman and Bruce Wayne. As far as character deaths: again, as long as it serves the story and not a convenient way to reduce an actor's screen time (Marsden) or just a cheap dramatic twist (Xavier) I'm fine with it. How many times have all these characters died and come back to life in the comics? Too many to count. Finally, I'm hoping this Hellfire Club rumor is wrong. I can see the writers taking the story of Jean's seduction into the Club as the basis for her joining the Brotherhood. But not that Magneto's group has become the Hellfire Club. First, Mags would never call his group a 'Club.' Certainly not as intimidating and racially charged as The Brotherhood. Secondly, the Hellfire Club was always about intrigue and corporate interests, something much more worthy of its own story. I liked the Ultimate Hellfire Club when it turns out they've been secretly funding Xavier's school. Anyway, amongst all the bitching about looks, I'm glad they had Famke finally go to Jean's classic long hair look. I hope we see a fully floating and enflamed Phoenix reaping destruction even on a small scale (perhaps just a city instead of a solar system). And even if Halle got down on her knees and sucked off Wolverine, most people here would still hate her. But like Rummy said, we go to (mutant) war with the army (cast) we have, not the one we wish we had (Gina Torres as Storm). The Halle bashing has gotten old, my friends. Let's move on.

  • I'm certainly not a Ratner hater (I've actually enjoyed most of his movies), but I was never a fan of the thought of him directing an X-film. The guy's got talent. He can deliver decent entertainment, but he's a pretty safe director. He has a real paint-by-numbers approach that works well enough in a Rush Hour flick, but here... I'm not convinced. The guy doesn't have a signature style and he doesn't seem to push himself to interesting heights; he finds a familiar place and sticks with it. I'm just afraid he's too generic a director to tackle something like X-Men. He just seems like an uninspired choice for the director's chair, if you ask me. It seems like he was essentially picked because he's delivered a few box office hits and he's been around the block enough times that he could be trusted to stay focused and get the picture done on time. That would be all fine and dandy for a lesser comic book movie project, but this isn't just X-Men, it's the proposed final chapter in a trilogy! After the ass-kicking-ness of the first two X-flicks, I really don't want this series to fall flat on its face. As for the trailer, it looks okay, but it doesn't do much for me. Watching Kitty walk (in costume) alongside the other X-Men at the beginning of the teaser excites me in all sorts of tingly ways, but now that I'm hearing that she is going to be left mainly in the background with most of the other characters, well, I'm kinda choked. Still, little Ellen Page looks great as Kitty and, as long as I see her do something more than what she did in the first two films, I will be ecstatic for at least that moment of the film. Other than that, it's fun to think that we could have an all-out brawl between the X-Men and Magneto's band of baddies, but still, Magneto's henchmen look like rejects from a sci-fi porn flick. None of them look remotely interesting or exciting. As generic as generic gets. And Juggernaut... OH GOOD FUCKING GOD. What the hell is that shit? I know that it was silly of me to expect to see the Juggernaut we all know and love up there on the big screen next summer, but not in my wildest dreams (nightmares?) did I envision something as disgustingly retarded as Vinnie Jones decked out like a complete knob. The helmet is awful, the abs are hilariously fake-looking... ugh. The whole thing stinks. Someone above complained that Juggernaut got the same treatment that Bane did in Batman & Robin. I totally agree. This looks to be another cool comic book character wasted on screen. God, seriously, I fucking hate that look. Angel looks fine, but really, it's what we were all expecting. It's a white dude with wings. Nowadays, with special effects the way they are, as long as you don't hire a group of complete fools to handle the effects, it should look okay and it does. As for the Beast, well, the verdict's still sorta out for me. I don't really dig the look, but at the same time, I can't say I fully hate it. Maybe once I hear his voice, I'll be more sold. Or less sold. We'll see. Overall, the movie doesn't look like total junk, but I'm not exactly impressed either.

Nintendo, I like Blade too god damn it!!!

    by krullboy

Say what you will about Blade:Trinity, but the premise presented in 1998, with Norrington's film, kicked my ass, blew my socks off, and left me spent. The original Blade paved the way for the other comic movies, and suffered from TOO MUCH Del Toro in Blade 2, and TOO MUCH Goyer trying to cram everything in one film for Blade:Trinity. Knock on Snipes all you want, but the first film , from the blood rave, to the fucking awesome soundtrack, to the bullet-time effects (which pre-empted "The Matrix", thank you very much), set new standards in the genre. Watch it again, and you will see what I am saying.

No arguments here. My only big gripe with 'Blade' was that Whistler really did seem like a caricature of a "badass" a lot of the time, with his eat nails for breakfast, "fucking-fuck-fuckity-fuck, diaperhead" dialogue. But I liked him overall, and was impressed by the movie. I still prefer it to 'Blade II' in a lot of ways.

Well I thought Singer got the costumes right...

    by dr_buggerlugs

...whaddya want? Wolverine to wear some faggy yellow costume with a mask that makes him look like he's going to some gay Halloween party? The simple black outfits are simple, functional and give the characters a sense of unity. And I quite frankly like the Lois Lane having a kid idea; you need something, a device, a mcguffin, to show that Lois has moved on so why not a kid? It gives an extra dimension to what would nominally just be a rehash of what we've seen before in tv and film...a controversial development? Absolutely but it'll help the whole story no end.

I liked Blade 2, I think that I didn't enjoy it so much because I was so used to Norrington's style after multiple viewings, it became the standard by which I judged the other two. Not wise, considering how different each of the three directors are. I just wished we could have seen more of the "Blade in Russia" stuff we glimpsed at the end of the original. Ron Pearlman's character in Blade 2 was great. Parker Posey and HHH were good in Blade Trinity, but it went a little campy. Nothing beats Hannibal King's lines though, especially "Why don't you go take a sugar frosted fuck off the end of my cock"!!!!!

Hey, Nintendo, wanna turn the Tourette's down a notch or two? I couldn't tell if you had something valuable to say between all the cursing. ANYWAY, I thought the teaser was pretty damn sweet; made me wanna see it, and since that's the point of the teaser, it did its job. By the way, enough with the Superman Returns teaser hate, okay? What, did you want the whole fracking movie spelled out for you? It's called a TEASER for a reason, morons, so get over yourselves. And, another thing, enough with the Juggernaut complaints. If you're going to base the portrayal of a character solely on whether he LOOKS like the Juggernaut of the comics, than you suffer from a criminally narrow mind.

    EVERYBODY

    by wil_of_iron

What a bunch of simpering house plants!!Guys....give the movie a chance to come out. This is exactly why Tarantino once said he'd never do a comic book movie...
Ratner, while he's no Chris Nolan still has one very important thing going for him, and that's that he's a comic-book fan. Which to me means that he's not going to piss all over the material.....I suppose you all would've been happier if Joel Schumacher got the job? Exactly. And I'm sorry but this trailer kicked so much more ass than the Superman Returns teaser. I think Beast looks how he'd look in real life, I'm particularly anxious to see how he moves, because as we all know, besides being a genius the dude can lay some serious smack down with his agility. Now, of all the villains in the Marvel Universe, aside from Dr.Doom, Magneto, Scorpion and the Sandman, I've always loved the Juggernaut. How can you not love that guy....he's a f*ckin' monster. But in this realm, it's understandable that they'd scale him down a notch, much the way they did on the X-Men Evolution series on TV....but he was still unstoppable, which is why he's called the Juggernaut. I think Vinnie Jones, definitely has what it takes to convey that anger and resentment Juggy has towards Xavier....that is if they even decide to show us that much. But in going with a real actor, it makes it come across as real and believable as opposed to some CGI-Water Ballon like the Hulk.

    Nuff Said.

    Teaser Vs. Trailer

    by mrspunkmeister2u

Come on people, this is just the first TEASER for the movie. I can't believe all the bitterness in here about it. At least save the bitching until the first real TRAILER comes out.
I can't believe some of the irrelevent complaints I'm reading in here. If you're that put out over Storms hair then just consider the movie a loss, don't go see it and let the rest of us enjoy it for what it is.
Surely you didn't expect every aspect of the comic book to work on the big screen? How formidable would Magneto have been in a bright purple costume? You get the point.
It's all about suspension of disbelief. You have to go into the movie with total belief in what you're seeing. If you do this the movie will rock.
Afterall, we're not expecting oscar winning performances, etc.
Sure, there are disappointments. I would have killed to see some version of the Phoenix costume. But will that stop me from enjoying the movie, I think not.
Some of the people in this forum literally to not WANT to like this movie and they're nitpicking a teaser trailer to death to convince themselves it's a horrible movie before they've even seen it. In what universe does that make any sense whatsoever?
    Just enjoy it!!!!!!

  • a effective teaser is one where the "S" is shown at the end where it builds up to the superhero - imagine a superman teaser featuring a disaster on a bridge or smiliar location and people are scrambling and explosions all aroudn and suddenly you see a man in a suit walk towards a camera and tears open his shirt and you see the S logo - that would have had harry potter audiences excited - as it stands now the trailers only redeeming feature was marlon brando and the music

Well I can see by that (teaser/trailer) that this movie will definitely (suck/rule). The director should be (anally raped by space monsters/given head by hot babes). The script I (read/heard about/wrote myself) wiil make the movie (kick ass/blow chunks). They shouldn't have sacrificed (plot/special effects) for (special effects/plot) and the acting is (pathetic/inspiring). I (will/will not) see this movie more thsn twice.(Taken from the offical movie geek handbook). Seriously, I hope this movie is good. I liked 2 more than 1, and am looking forward to 3. Looked good to me. I can't imagine them including Sentinels in this movie unless it's in the Danger Room (which isn't what we want for a variety of reasons).
And I am a huge Blade fan. Blade 2 was also fun but not as clever as lade 1. Blade 3 made me want to rip my eyes out. I knew it was going to suck (Netflix special-I wouldn't pay money for that crap) because Goyer was directing and the advanced word of him essentially phasing out Blade and turning it into a Buffy clone. Blade opened the door to the recent comic movie revival and is suprisingly the only decent thing Norrington has done (except for Death Machine).

Here are just some random comments I have about the looks of the already infamous Beast and Juggs. 1. Beast looks good. What did you all expect? If they had completely covered Grammers face in fur it would have been distracting and you would not have been able to see his facial expressions adequately enough. 2. I'll save my opinion for Juggs until I see more. But my opinion has always been not to even include him. If you can't do it right, then don't do it at all. Overall, all the characters look really good from what I see here http://clubs.1up.com/do/club?Dispatch=Display&clubid=70004, even shiny boy.

  • Think what you want about Cameron. What has Raimi done? I'm not a Raimi hater, but let's compare. Let's see, he DID direct one of my favorite films, A SIMPLE PLAN. Okay. One point for him. What else? Hmmm... a low budget horror film... doesn't count. EVIL DEAD is fun, but that's about it, it's fun. Tongue in cheek shit. FOR LOVE OF THE GAME... NO. THE GIFT... not so much. THE QUICK AND THE DEAD? Fun, but not so much. DARKMAN? More of a novelty item.

Cameron? TERMINATOR... one point. TERMINATOR TWO... one point. ALIENS... one point. THE ABYSS... I loved it, let's say half a point. TRUE LIES... half a point. TITANIC... two points. You may not like it, but there's about $2 Billion worth of people that did. That film was a throwback to the golden age of Hollywood, mixed in with true Cameronisms (the present day storyline).

BUT, like I said, I'm no Raimi hater. I just think he's a bit overrated. Spider-Man... overrated. Spider-man 2... better, but still overrated. I liked the story angle of giving up his Spider-Man ways when I first saw it in Superman 2. But hey, we all have our likes and dislikes. You like it, fine. I like some shitty movies too. To each his own. Lastly, Michael Biehn vs. Bruce Campbell... Biehn all the way. He can ACT. He may not suck the meat of fanboys during their little conventions like Campbell does, but he can act.

    by ihatemyfriends

    wow. colossus is--really shiny.

i think that for whatever reason, that when you start to put the guys who aren't just 'in costume' into a comic book movie that it starts looking a little bit silly. i don't know. for some reason nightcrawler worked for me, but so far, none of these character designs are really doing it.

i can see now why they stuck to the more 'human' mutants in terms of appearance in the first film, and i'm feeling like they really nailed it hard with kurt in the second. maybe it was just dumb luck?

i can't help it, but i feel like the presentation of these characters does edge into FFland to a certain degree.

mind you, i still want to see this movie and i want to like it. even if it *is* the crap script that horrified me and even if i *do* think that some of my favorites look like they leave a bit to be desired.

Yeah, I dunno about that image. I too saw it over at superherohype a little while ago and it's got me a bit worried. A bunch of the geeks in the thread discussing the pic have toyed with the image so that the eyes are all whited out, stuff like that, and it does look decent enough. Again, just like with Beast, I can't say that I HATE this image, but I can't say I'm exactly wanting to hump my monitor when I look at it either. There's a cheapness to the shot, a real "hey, I just whipped this up in Photoshop" look to the thing. That said, seeing the whole thing moving and seeing it six months from now as a fully finished effect could prove us doubters wrong. But I must say, someone over at the superherohype boards posted a couple stills of Colossus from X2 and I was reminded how much cooler he looked in that brief cameo than he does in this shot. Time will tell what awaits our favourite metal-clad hero...

    by luckylindy

It does look kinda cartoony, but i will have to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt that they can pull him off. The movie is six months away and they will have time to sharpen all the effects up. Colossus is my favorite x-man. He exudes badass so hopefully theyll work on him some more. But i liked the teaser. Just seems more fun than the other two movies; more epic. I dunno, im gonna hafta wait. Juggs looks just alright. I can take a lot of shit, but not being compared to moviemack. This gives me pause to think. I have seen the error of my ways. From now on I will strive to only provoke intelligent debate. Moto's still an idiot. Nothing Cameron has done since Aliens has given any indication that his Spider-Man would be anything than a loud, confusing, misogynist mess. And while Raimi had his roots in splatter films, I'd consider Darkman and a Simple Plan to be ample evidence that he'd do a good job on both the actoiny and the drama-y (is that a word?) aspects of Spider-Man. But more than that, all I need to look to is the damn films themselves. 'Cuz he got the job, and did a good one. Perfect? Nah. Power Rangers Gobby sucked. Doc Ock needed one more major set piece and a better dastardly villain plan. The Russian anorexic scenes were a waste of time. But everything else was great. And I just don't have any faith that Cameron would ever be able to give us anything like that. sheesh... I can't believe I was compared to moviemack. I need to take a fucking shower.

    Trailer and Plot

    by jonabbey

I liked the trailer well enough.. it seemed a lot better than the trailers we saw for the first movie at this stage in the game. Remember Wolvie swinging around a spike on the Statue of Liberty?

I did not previously know that the X-Mansion's underground levels had doors made of styrofoam, however.

Now on to business. I'm still pissed at the advertised waste of my favorite character in this film, though I'm perfectly fine with the second reputed death. I agree with MasterWhedon, the X-folk could use that kind of shaking up quite nicely. But character A doesn't deserve what they're supposed to be doing to him, and I hate the scenes in the trailer that allude to it.

I'd give it three stars out of five for general competance and decent short-order special effects work. It might have been three and a half if not for the plot abortions involved.

  • Colossus is made of metal. The picture is a guy who's made of metal, one who we've already seen in X2. So what's off? About Colossus as badass. Yes, he's the team's heavy hitter (literally). What makes him interesting though is that he has the soul of an artist, and he's still a farmboy at heart. Too bad they removed the whole Russian angle from the movies. Maybe that was seen as too 'Cold War.' People are also complaining about Beast losing the hair on his face. I'm wondering if these are people with no memory of X-Men beyond a few years ago when his 'secondary mutation' made him catlike. What we have is the classic look. The only thing I can see being a problem is his lack of spectacles and the blow wave hairstyle. In the comics, though, his hairstyle was pretty similar to Wolverine's so maybe they needed to differentiate.

something no one else is saying

    by teddanson37

i watched the trailer eighty-four tiems in the past three days, i've skimmed through this and a few other threads on other websites, and after seeing the teaser, reading the script spoiler (for the 12th time), and reading all these complaints, i think my biggest problem is still the fact that cyclops is missing. he had one "touching" scene with the prof, in X1, along with a few "wolverine, stop messin wit my girl" lines, and then he got kidnapped by stryker for most of X2, only to show up at the end long enough to grunt a little and then have an emotional breakdown when jean dies. i know he's a dickhead. but come on, he's cyclops. we geeks love that dickhead. and to be honest, they never gave the character a chance.

    The Team Aspect

    by twitaman

I liked Singer's X-Men movies. But I always thought they were lacking something, and when I saw the movie, "The Incredibles" I knew what it was -- that sense of "team." When the family is fighting together at the end, I thought, "man this is what the X-Men need to do, have them all fight together like in the classic comic book stories." But in Singer's versions they usually split up and fought separately, it was the Wolverine show with "all the rest." The other members of the team were reduced to also rans, like "the Profesor and Maryann." Though I'm not about to call Ratner an auteur he has shown me he can take a flimsy script and make an entertaining movie (or at least, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan showed me that). Based on what I've seen in the teaser, it looks like there will be scenes of them fighting together as a team, and that's cool. The fastball special at the end knocked me out. I hope it's good. I'm rooting for it.

    by the true priapic

But this trailer is pretty damn cool.Wolvies hair is fucking odd though, and sadly it looks like they're going with the leaked script.I thought Avi Arad said the leaked piece of shit was a veruy early draft?Tosser.Killing Scott is silly and making Halle Berry more central is a genuinely moronic thing to do seeing as she's shit in the Xmen films and Singers worst mistake.Quite how Dark Phoenix fits is still questionable.Presumably she dies in torment at killing Scott and saves the world in self immolation leaving Logan to wander the world alone broken hearted.Betcha the last scene is Wolvie walking off into the distance.Betcha.Still,looks okay.

Part of me hopes there's going to be less Wolvie...

    by dr_buggerlugs

...don't get me wrong - I like Hugh and The Fountain is going to be awesome but would it be wrong to actually follow a few more X-Men this time around? Get someone else to drive the story? I was hoping X3 was finally going to give Cyclops something worthwhile - something I suspect Singer would have done, having effectively shafted him in X2 but again it seems like it's another Wolverine film - with added Halle - and still Wolverine gets a spin off, even though he's had 3 films dedicated to him as it is? Yes, he's the most bankable character, but I always kinda thought X-men should be at heart an ensemble piece...

Dead on right about Halle Berry

    by dannyocean01

Apart from the Oscar, which means shit as far as I'm concerned when it comes to BO, exsctly what film has Berry done to suggest she is the Box Office draw. She was fine as a small player in the X-Men.

Now, I'm not saying Storm isn't an important character, just when Berry is playing her. She comes off as a wimp in the role, as if Storm is constantly suffering from her claustrophobia.

    The Problem With Cyclops

    by twitaman

Is that the actor playing him, though decent enough, doesn't have the screen presence of Wolverine. I think considering how old they cast Jean Grey and Wolverine, Scott Summers comes off as miniscule. Also, he's a little on the short side. I always thought Michael Bein of "Terminator" fame would've made a great Cyclops. Unfortunately, he was a bit too old for the part.

Sentinels will only appear if it's a Danger Room sequence

    by steve rogers

They will stick them in there as they can get away with the "unreality" of it in the Danger Room/Holodeck/Take Your Pick. Which, while it will be GREAT so see them, will effectively rule them out of appearing seriously in any future flicks. But then, if X3 is the last one, then at least we got to see them onscreen while the going was good. And if they kill Cyclops and he stays lame and dead - BAD. If they bring him - and Prof X - back at the end in some cool way that blows the audience's socks off, or it's a misdirection - COOL. However i do still think that, screentime wise, Cyclops will get the shaft.

    by cocolopez

I never understood why people freak about the x-men movies- the second was slightly enjoyable- but still wasn't a "good" movie. Too many characters and the movies were practically bloodless. And although I've been dubious about Robert Rodriguez's filming capabilities -after seeing Sin City I'm convinced that HE could turn in a palatable X-Men. Singer's are just shit. The guy made one good movie- he ruined Apt Pupil- And I'm sorry- that ain't Wolverine I'm looking at- it's a watered down pseudo Wolverine for kids. You're all going bonkers over a kid's movie. I saw one poster rambling something absurd like "oh man this movie drips "badass"" lol. You have Rodriguez do this shit with some cast changes- like Iman as storm and Mickey Rourke as Wolverine- (keep Ian McKellan- the best part of Singer's X-Men movies) make it an NC-17 movie with hyper gore and attitude and comic book humor- then maybe it will drip "badass" or whatever this tart said. Til then I'm just yawn-talking through Singer's shit-fests.

    Wolvie, Storm and Colossus

    by oisin5199

Say what you want about Halle, in the absence of Jean and Cyclops, she is the logical choice to lead the team. She has seniority, and in the comics this is exactly what happened. While Scott was freaking out over Jean, Storm became the new team leader. With that Danger Room sequence, it looks like they're also using the 'Logan as reluctant mentor to the kids' angle, which they also touched upon last time. Also like the comic (especially with Kitty Pryde and Jubilee, who looks like she'll be getting the shaft again. Maybe that's her in Xavier's office. A 3rd actress?) From the first film, I think there was a nice rapport between Storm and Wolvie ('are you sure you're on the right side') and I think they have a quiet respect for each other - so they could work together well. But I hope they don't go further. Wolvie needs to pine for Jean! And in X2, I don't recall Colossus' 'I can help you' line being in a Russian accent. You do remember his scene in X2, don't you?

What we don't see in the teaser is Jean killing Scott, or Charles. (Who was supposed to off Mags?) And you gotta believe, the movie will end with her gonna apeshit crazy, causing whats left of the X-men, Brotherhood, Morlocks, and Military to team up against her. At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

    by supermonkey321

I used to like Wolverine as much as everyone else, but with the oversaturation of the character in both the comics and the movies, i just cant take it anymore! I HATE Wolverine now, i really do! I mean really, the first two movies were all about Wolverine AND he is getting his own movie AND now the third one seems to be more of the same... i'm disappointed with the entire franchise as a whole. the first two arent bad, especially the second one, but they dont come close to doing justice to one of the best comic series of all time, and this third one seems like it is just gonna totally kill it... and maybe that's best.

IS IT CONFIRMED THAT CYCLOPS IS DEAD?

    by moto

I'm not sure that anyone here knows 100% that Cyclops bites it. I'm thinking that there may be some Spock-like shit going on where everyone thinks Cyclops is dead, but they leave a window showing that he may in fact be aline. IS it confirmed that Cyclops dies??? If not, why the fuck are we all bitching about it? Wait for the damn movie to come out.
