BNAT 7 Tickets Are Up For Purchase! The Glorious Day Approaches!

Published at:  Nov 15, 2005 6:11:35 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here with the latest on... BUTT-NUMB-A-THON!!! Well, the letters for loot went out yesterday and folks are responding with encouraging news. I think the BNAT Bags are going to be something very cool. There's one item that each and every one of you are going to get. This item, well, for some of you it's your "Rosebud" - for others - well Kid, it was the coolest before you were even born. We'll see what else we get coming in, but it's looking very cool. Geek Christmas should be exactly that.

How's the programming going? Well, it's a tough year - trying to figure out what tomorrow's winners are gonna be - but I think I'm doing really good, we'll see soon enough. As for the vintage end of programming. I'm absolutely delighted. There are two prints, that I've been after for about 3 years - that just were not around. Glory be, they showed up this year and now they're on the program. The others, well, they should be absolutely a treat.

The BNAT Poster Art is almost done and the T-shirt design is coming in soon too. I'm working on organizing the info for the yearbook. So - it's all coming together. More treats and fun and twists and turns than I've ever had in a BNAT before. And... Tim at the Drafthouse just let me know that the Ticket price, which covers the expenses and the donation to help keep the SATURDAY MORNING KIDS CLUB going intact... well - after his looking over everything, looks like the event is keeping the same price as last year. Now - you good folks on the list - you're the only people that can buy tickets. If you're not on the list, it will still take your money, but it'll just go towards charity - and you won't be getting in. So, unless you want to be cool to the kids club - don't buy a ticket unless you're on there. Now, if you were coming with extra people and you're buying all the tickets - go ahead, but send Tim an email saying who you were buying for. Ok? Cool. Here's where you can get your tickets: CLICK HERE!!!

Can't wait to see y'all there! It's crazy how fast the year's gone by, but I'll be as bedraggled and wonky as the rest of ya come noon on the 11th. Shame is, I'll be sleeping half of my birthday away. Go figure! Heh.

    Hey Harry,
Where should we send you bribes...er, I mean Birthday presents? Lemme know ASAP as I had promised some Japanese treats for ya and need a head start to get them sent out.

Exactly where did you see "pwesents" - fact is, I've been sending out the letters to make sure every attendee walks away with a ton of cool stuff. Why? Because they're doing a wonderful thing supporting the Saturday Morning Kids Club. That's for kids to get to see cool vintage films the way they were meant to be seen - up on the big screen presented at 24 frames a second. That's good enough for me.

    Now that you mention it...

    by t-pot25

You did not actually mention pwesents this year... I just assumed you wouldn't mind snagging a couple sweet birthday presents in the meantime...I had planned on sending somethin' Japanesey. However, if you're not interested I'd be happy to make a donation to the Kids Club instead

I don't know if it's out wide in the States, but after seeing that trailer, that's the kind of film I'd like to see. It looks bloody marvellous, and they way they do the equivalent of the, 'handing in your badge' in the Principals office is inspired.

The BNAT prices are quite reasonable.

    by excaliburffolkes

Since the whole thing was for charity, I always figured the tickets would be at least a couple of hundreds bucks each, which was one of the main reasons I never entered the contest to try and attend. Next year I'll defintiely throw my hat into the ring for a shot to go. Does anyone know if there is a set minimum the Alamo requires you to spend on food and drinks during the 24 hours?

Ok, So I'm supposed to charge a couple of hundred. Duly noted. Heh. There's no minimum that the Alamo requires you to spend on Food & Drinks. In fact - the Alamo is usually very cool about BNAT and runs cost saving features like "The 24 Hour Bottomless Glass of Soda" and the "24 hour Bottomless Cup Of Coffee" -- There's usually food specials, a breakfast buffet with hot food + an awe-inspiring array of cereals!!! Then the Alamo's food itself is actually really really good and reasonably priced. Then there's the Beer - you can get it by the BUCKETS. And the Alamo always has their Mondo Tee's set up in the lobby. In all, they do everything they can to make it as cheap or as expensive as you want. A note though. TIP THE WAIT STAFF - They're working extraordinarily hard at this event!

Not really. But while you bastidges are lounging in the glorious arms of Mother Cinema, I'm going to be counting backward from, like, 9,000 in an effort not to rap my endlessly useless boss in the mouth. Jeez, you think you'd LET me in, just to spare me the stress of trying not to do such a thing. Have you no SOUL, MAN?!?!?!?! Grrr... Enjoy, kids. Looking forward to the on-the-scene reporting... =)

Whoa, a reply from the HEADGEEK himself!

    by excaliburffolkes

I am honored. With regards to ticket prices and why I thought BNAT would be more expensive, the average theater charges about $10 for a two hour film, so 12 times that for 24 hours of films works out to $120. Add in the high demand for BNAT tickets, plus that it's for a really good cause, plus that you usually present a couple of major films weeks or months before they are released to the general public; and, $150 to $200 a ticket doesn't seem at all unreasonable (even if it's more than most of us could afford). $60 a seat is a steal, really, if you think about it. As for the Alamo, I know they are really, really generous about hosting BNAT every year so I wasn't sure if they had some sort minimum to guarantee that they at least broke even on the deal. Thanks for the details. Best wishes to you, and hope that everything for BNAT 7 goes off spectacularly!

Then he doesn't even give a brotha props for a paraphrased INDY JONES line! Seriously, Harry, y'all enjoy -- it's a terrific cause, and I'll scoot a little cash their way regardless. Have a superb birthday, and tip a glass (or nine) to us lil folks out here crossing against the light. It's a puny form of rebellion in a cold, hard white man's world, but it's a start... ;)

    BNAT BUDDY (tm)

    by docfalken

I'll be selling them from my seat. A BNAT BUDDY(tm) will allow you to really enjoy your 24-hour bottomless Coke. Just attach the catheter to your wang, strap the 64oz collection bag to your leg, and ENJOY!!! Here's a testimonial: "Drew M says "I love BNAT BUDDY!!!! I've been to every BNAT and I have yet to stand up and head to the bathroom. It's a god-send." $35.00 each (for boys or girls) and I'll have plenty to go around.

the Alamo just did a Lord of the Rings Marathon and they served Hobbit meals on a Hobbit schedule.
they had Elevensies and Afternoon Tea and there was even a veggie option! they said it was a 12.5 hour event which means it was really 14 hours. http://tinyurl.com/9ha7h

    by parallax

I made a commitment for the Friday night beforehand, and I never break a promise. I'll be taking the redeye from Providence, RI to Austin TX, and should there about an hour before checkin at the Drafthouse. I'll be getting about 18 hours of sleep the previous Thursday night, and will do my damndest to sleep on the plane! I'm allergic to caffiene, so basically, I'm fucked. I don't care in the slightest. I can sleep on Sunday. I'll probably be too excited to sleep. I'm just utterly jonesing for the 10th already...

    by kalibonejack

So, the $60 price is really great. I agree. considering I am flying from Altanta in to come to this event, and pay to see movies with my friends once a year, I am really appreciative that it's only $60. It used to be $10, then $40, and now $60. I am okay with that, too much more, and I don't know if I could come. As for the caffiene thing to the above poster... I gave up caffiene 5 years ago, so i feel you. bring some emergen-c. it's a B and C vitamin powder you put in water, it dissolves liek alka seltzer, and you're good to go, energy-wise.
