Different Look at GHOST RIDER - looking good

Hey folks, Harry here -- Heroi Magazine in Brazil got the first look at this and apparently they've seen moving footage - which begs the question... how long till Sony hits us with a full fledged GHOST RIDER teaser trailer? Thanks goes to Marcum - Who I think reads SuperHeroHype.Com too. Skull still looks a bit too CG-ish - but, what does a non-charring flaming living skull look like? Is it ever supposed to look natural? Or Supernatural and what does real supernatural look like? CG? or PRACTICAL?

It could end up looking rather cartoony. Of course his eyes did light up in the early 90's comics when he did his "penance stare" thing, or whatever it was.
I don't have high expectations for this film, mostly due to the "quality" of Daredevil, but I'm sure I'll give it a rent at some point. -
I think making him have eyes actually makes him actually seem like he has a shred of humanity in him still. I mean come on...the eyes are one of the most obvious signs of showing emotion, and I think letting ghost rider have fiery eyes lets the audience know that there is still a shred of humanity left in johnny blaze. imagine if the eyes WERENT included. he'd look different. it would be more cold, and indifferent. i'm not saying putting eyes in him is a good thing or a bad thing, but an interesting call. but i'll say this...he looks more of a badass in that pic w/ them in!!!

Hell of a lot better than the stupid mini-series they have coming out right now, anyway. I don't know how realistic people expect a man with a flaming skull for a head to be, but I'm getting pretty sick of all this "it looks too CG" crap. We are living in the era of the most convincing visual effects ever created, and all you can say is "it looks too CG?"

He delivers all of his lines in that same nasal monotone, and just when you think his eyes might actually express some kind of real emotion, he starts flinging his hands around instead. as far as the visuals are concerned, this is probably as good as we have reason to expect. i think this may be okay... unlike apparently most of the basement wankers on this site, i actually like nicholas cage, and ghost rider comics are an old favorite from childhood. this definitely looks more like the revamped ghost rider than the original (the original's my fave), but hopefully with cage being "johnny blaze" they're willing to combine the best of both worlds. one remaining question: will this actually be dark, or are we getting the dickless version a la punisher? the poster seems to indicate the former... that's what i'm hoping for, but there's always the kiddy market to keep in mind.

Good guy goes on a montage using his new powers to fight crime. Good guy and Bad guy meet. Girl gets kidnapped. Good guy saves girl and beats bad guy. Sequel setup. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. We get it already. They're really starting to scrape the bottom of the super hero barrel too.

F'ing enter hey. Anyways, Superhero Hype is down (the site sucks, but the Boards are fun), so I'm reduced to posting here in the AICN TB (the only good part of THIS f'ing site are the reviews). Ghost Rider is gonna suck, I'm not being a hater, but Nick Cage + shitty CGI flaming skull = garanteed suckage. Superman Returns and X3 don't seem too hot either, so what's left for 2006? The War in IRAN might be fun to watch on TV. Unless you're an American, then the DRAFT is gonna suck for than Ghost Rider ever could.

Not that I don't agree that Cage has squandered his talent with crappy crappy movies, or that Mark Steven Johnson instills me with everything except confidence in his ability to deliver a decent movie, or that Marvel's recent trackrecord is pretty poor, but the sheer amount of petty hateful negativism here is SICKENING. Ghost Rider (indeed, almost every comic property) doesn't seem so hard to get right, why do they seem to go out of their way to get it so wrong? It will probably be better than Daredevil, mainly because the lead is only slightly less overexposed, and because he actually seems to fit the part and isn't woefully miscast. The flaming skull effect looks pretty good. If the script is haflway decent, and the action passable, then maybe Peter Fonda will be able to save this thing.

Ghost Rider (the Dan Kletch years) got me into comics. I want this to be a good film. Strike one - Nic Cage. Over him in his hangdog-hero mode. Strike two - Mark Steven Johnson, and his comment that he was surprised at how funny the movie turned out. Ha. Ha. Any director 'surprised' by the tone of his own film should be forced to sit the corner. On fire. Strike three - GR has never been really strong in the story department - dubious Canon, which could be exploited to create a definative story. Marks for Peter Fonda as the Devil, Eva Mendes replacing "generic-lilly-white-blondeshell" (still likely generic, less white), and hey, I still think GR is cool. The new mini is decent if nothing new. Here's hoping.

I'm sorry to hear about Guerrero as well. Guerrero was one of those wrestlers who clearly gave his all in his performances, and his body has taken a lot of punishment for it. I wouldn't be surprised if his history with substance abuse was a factor in his death, but I hope that it isn't because of a relapse.

It's a freakin' GHOST RIDER movie for chrissakes. And yes, photo is still better than anything I've seen of KONG so far. What a non-event. GR will do 15-17 million opening weekend then crash like almost every other comic book movie ever made. Daredevil is mildly underrated, so I hope MS Johnson has learned a lesson and does a little better with this, though I wish he'd done this first before underselling DD. Kong will suck balls.

Like I said, I didn't see FF but based on the trailers and the script I'm pretty sure DD was better. As for Kong, damn, the haters are really egtting irritating. I've always thought GhostRider could be one of the coolest comics to movies. And I liked Daredevil as well (the Director's Cut) which was a very different movie IMHO.

...this movie wrapped in, like, July. It comes out either next July or August. That means it has/d an entire YEAR of post-production. A year. Most films don't get that luxury. They had so much time to try and get the CGI right, and if they didn't that either means that animating Ghost Rider is trickier than it looks or Sony's effects department blows.

Not really interested in it because I know they are going to dumb it down big time and change the story in order to get the idiots that love a good "popcorn" movie (which translates into the movie sucks)to see it. As far as Kong goes. Like it or not, unless Peter Jackson seriously screws up (which is highly unlikely) Kong is going to absolutely clean up at the box office and be a contender at the oscars.

I'll stop hating on KONG til I see it, but it really is unnecessary. Matchstick Men was so good on so many levels. VERY underrated and one of Cage's best performances. Glad others agree that DD was on okay movie and that this one will most likely be decent at worst.

If you remember, the cgi in the teaser for Hulk wasn't that hot. But it turned out for the most part, decent, special effects wise. A few transitional scenes were awkward, i.e. when he turned into The Hulk. When he turned back into Banner it was perfect though. Just wait till the official trailer next spring, summer till you knock the special effects. Casting, script, those you can complain about. Speaking of changing special effects in teasers, does Kong look different to anyone? Or is it just me? In the scene where he saves Ann from the T-rex, he looks skinnier/meaner or sumthin. P.S.: R.I.P. EDDIE *bows head*

Anyway back on topic. This looks like cover art for a computer game. Surely Marvel and Columbia have the dosh to bring it 'to life' rather than just get a small team to animate it in their over the counter 3-d studio software. It's tricky, but it's not hard to composit 'real' photographed elements.

I really liked Daredevil when I saw it on opening day. I say it on FX the other day and was less impressed. The movie starts off pretty damn well. So well, I dismissed the playground scene. Bullseye was watchable enough get past that silly street fight. The Electra/DD in the rain bit was good enough to forget about Joey Pants and Kevin Smith parts. But Kingpin played without charisma or even a care in the world? That blew ass.

Sometimes it feels good to just blurt out what everyone else is thinking, but just wont say. It's a cathartic 'spleen venting' if you will, and it's almost as good as taking a really huge dump ;)

Nic Cage is a hack, can't stand him as an actor, and he doesn't fit the role of Johnny Blaze at all. I've liked movies that the balding monotone speaking bad actor has done in the past, so maybe I'll like this one, but I really doubt they can make me like him as Blaze. Maybe it's just personal, but I like Cage as much as Matt Parker and Trey Stone like Matt Damon and Ben Afflek. I loved the Ghostrider comic as a kid, still have the first issue but in very bad condition, so here's to hoping.

equals no free passes EVER. To be THAT INCREADIBLY fucked in the head, I dont care HOW good Raising Arizona was... he's just a bat-shit, crazy-insane, fuck-up who got lucky as far as I'm concerned. The only way he could Make it work as Johnny Blaze is to set himself on fire for every scene. MAYBE then I'll enjoy the film, but only if they dont D.A.R. out his screaming.

I, for one, am very impressed with this image. It kind of reminds me of the flaming skull in the opening sequence of Terminator 2. I saw the bike in San Diego, and I think both comic book fans, and the heavy metal crowd are going to eat this up. There is no way that Nic Cage is going to allow this movie to be anything less than entertaining, and I can't wait to finally see him as a comic book character. I completely buy him as Johnny Blaze. I'm there!!

...as much as folks think. It's hard to get a sense for the character from a still when fire is such a critical element of his look and fire, by its nature, is such a dynamic thing. I'll need to see a clip of the character in motion. I remember a lot of folks having Hulk reservations (and I shared them) when initial images leaked, but I just watched that movie again (second time) over the weekend and I relaly like the way the character was handled visually. I also liked the story and characterizations far more than I remembered. I now rank Hulk in the same league as the Daredevil Director's Cut (which is a far superior film to the theatrical release) in my "comic movies that didn't suck" category. They aren't optimal comic movies (like both Spider Mans, the original Superman or Batman Begins), but they aren't the misfires the genre has become infamous for (Spawn, SUperman 3, Batman Forever & Robin, etc.). If Ghost Rider takes a similar road to Hulk, I could get into it. Oh...and Nic Cage does, indeed, get a free pass for his work iun "Raising Arizona," not to mention the vastly underrated and ignored by history "Valley Girl."

I think he looks basically the same, except the comics version appears to have smaller spikes and denim pants. Again, "costume" changes aren't that big a deal. But, for what it's worth, if he looks like Spawn, he already did in the funnies.

I want like twisted metal black dark for this film. Darker than Sin City, butterfly effect and requiem for a dream combined but not as much rape, murder, drugs, prostitution or cannibalism. OK that didn't make sense but I remember this comic as being dark, and I'd like to see the film go that route rather than he's some great hero, kind of thing. yeah ok it's clear to me know - my words have failed me, check please, and please hurry I need to go home and nap

I know that a COMPUTER made that effect and so it looks too CGI to me.
It reminds me of Itchy and Scratchy episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone. He strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder. -

ok I just flipped thru this comic I had in my small collection and I see no chains. Also he has no control of when the Ghost Rider comes out, but rather it seems to happen when he's getting his human ass kicked by thugs. On a side note his mother sees him in this particular comic for the first time as his demonic self, and gets slapped for trying to stop him from killing a guy (who he's already beaten the crap out of), then it turns focus to Sally Stanton who freaks him out more until he's swinging at her head but it's like smoke he can't hit it, then he gets tired and goes back to being johnny blaze, he calls her a witch, but his mother called her daughter sally stanton, wonder if she'll be in the movie

I do know I liked Nic Cage before he started to do way too many movies. No one's mentioned this one, but one of my favorites back in the day was Vampire's Kiss. He was just so damn weird. I loved it. 'Tick Tock!'

Is based off of the 90's version, not the high collar, blue spandex version of the 70's. The bike is an entirely new design. And quite awesome at that. I haven't seen anything yet to make me worry about the quality of this film. Like someone said earlier, they have a year of post-production to get this flick looking right. I sure hope they do.....

...the "Picture Removed At The Request of SONY!" line, as if Harry and Co. are attempting to legitimize the fake picture by saying THE MAN didn't want us to see it. No explanation that the picture had actually been called a fake by Sony and that the site had, once again, been duped by some geek with time on his hands and Photoshop (who didn't do a terrible job, by the way). Way to try and control the spin during a flaming descent, fellas.

He had this Motorcycle with a medalion instead of a gas-cap, and whenever he slapped it, he transformed along with the bike. The stories were goofy as hell, but the art was magnificent.
