Yikes!! Almost ALL The FRIENDS Season-Sets Just Fell to
The first and second seasons of “Friends” have been selling for $19.97 for a few weeks now, but AS OF RIGHT NOW you can find seasons three through eight also on sale for $19.97.
That’s dirt cheap. Like 83 cents per ‘sode.
I love “Friends,” all ten seasons of it. (Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow both made me laugh at almost every episode – which, frankly, is not so easy to do!) But even if YOU’RE not a “Friends” fiend, there’s a good chance there’s one lurking among your vast array of friends and loved ones (it was a VERY popular sitcom) - so these make great potential stocking stuffers.
As always, I warn you that THERE’S NO TELLING HOW LONG THESE SETS WILL BE PRICED LIKE THIS. The new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” seven-season “Chosen Collection” that hits shelves next Tuesday was available for months for $129.99, then a month ago it suddenly rocketed up to $169.99 on Amazon and elsewhere. (And then, yesterday, Amazon removed the “Chosen Collection” from its site entirely!!) The good news? Amazon has to honor all the orders that smart shoppers pre-ordered months ago at $129.99.
Here’s the what:
Friends: The Complete First Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Second Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Third Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Fourth Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Fifth Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Sixth Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Seventh Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Eighth Season $19.97
Friends: The Complete Ninth Season $22.47
Friends: The Complete Tenth Season $29.24
And the best deal of all: Talkbacker IAmLegolas gives us the heads-up ont the 10-season set price at DeepDiscountDVD.com:
If you apply the 20% off (the [deepdiscountdvd.com] sale they have going on until Nov. 19, using the codes DVDTALK or USATODAY) it makes it $163.20
That's only 69 cents per episode!

...I'd love a complete all-season sets of The Sopranos and Smallville once those shows are wrapped up.
Nov. 11, 2005, 4:33 p.m. CST
and you still have to pay full price for seasons 9 & 10, and you can catch reruns several times a day. I have been waiting for years for The Sopranos to drop in price but they never do (at least not significantly). I think I'll hit HMV on the way home and see if they have any 2-for-1 deals going on.

Then seasons 3-10 sucked...the first couple of seasons were kind of funny and well-written, but then they coasted the rest of the way, and had all the friends date each other...lazy writing for a lazy audience.

It actually got better with age.

My favorite episode is "The One Where No One's Ready". Comedy gold. I just bought my girlfriend seasons 5-7 for Christmas.

I ordered Buffy Seasons 1-4 a few years back, and ONE of the disks was fucked up. Just one disk. What did they do? They sent me all four seasons AGAIN for free. Classy.

Friends was many things. Insipid, contrived, boring, derivative. But in no shape or form was it Funny, not even close. The best that can be said about Friends was that it was time consuming and unoffensive. Must see TV indeed.

My bad. I added your info to the main post.

I need to pick up Smallville seasons 2-4. I picked up season one when it dropped to that sweet as hell $20 price point.

I wish Clark would learn to fly, then fly around the earth at super-speed, reverse time and hire better writers to write the first four seasons. Imagine if the show had always been as good as it was last night?

Funny stuff. I also like the one where Chandler gets with that hot Italian babe, and the one when he and Joey win the apatment from Monica. It kinda jumped the shark after Ross said "Rachel" during his wedding vows to Emily.

Now it's on my Wish List next to "no longer available." As for Friends, bring it down to a nickel an episode and I'll consider it.

All heavilly edited, of course. That's the main reason to buy TV on DVD. And Friends was comic gold for the majority of it's ru (although the last two seasons were stretched pretty thin with the soap opera bullshit that plagues so many NBC sitcomes late in their runs). I still quote random Chandler lines frequently. "Okay...the fifth dentist caved, and now they're *all* recommending Trident...?"
Nov. 11, 2005, 10:22 p.m. CST
I mean honestly, I think I can flip around cable any evening and find at least one channel playing friends. I still remember last summer when for two weeks my local 'Friends' station played the exact same episode at exactly the same time. You could flip between the two and they were exactly in sync.
Nov. 11, 2005, 11:24 p.m. CST
It's the CONSTANT LAUGHTER! People going crazy after every single line, funny or not, SHUT UP! I suppose also the fact that it's shit.
Nov. 11, 2005, 11:49 p.m. CST
and all I can say is, I want a damn dvd set of the Governer Schwarzennegger (I know I didn't spell that right.) skits.
Nov. 12, 2005, 12:12 a.m. CST
Oh, wow! This is the best news ever! I can't wait to go out and buy...wait a minute. I can watch at least one episode for free on TV every night. And they're all variatiopns on the same trite plotlines anyway. So they're not even worth the money I already don't pay for them! Phew. I thought I was going to be spending money on low-level comedy dreck there for a minute, but fortunately I managed to restrain myself.

Only reason it did okay was NBC did the smart thing putting it in the slot before the vastly superior Seinfeld. The show was incredibly unfunny and uninteresting.

It was due for release so why was it pulled?

I think it only lost it's way after season 4. It held up as pretty much unbeatable iconic stuff until Ross and Rachel split. And it was even still pretty good after that, lame-o holiday excursions, multiple births, inter-Friend relationships and all. Oh, and 'The One Where No One's Ready' is always hands down the most popular episode wherever you go, and deservedly so, but it's a generally unacknowledged fact to date.

If you see a repeat of this compare the size of their heads. "Did you know that Conan Obrien's head weighs 16lbs?" Actually, it would be like 20lbs with that hair.

I still prefer my seasons to cost $99.99. It's only money you know....

They should've done a special entitled "The cast of Friends gets dragged under a bus for six blocks while screaming and begging to be killed". Now that's an episode I could've gotten into. I'm still waiting for the powers that be to release the original Addam's Family on dvd.

it was when Joey starts dating that reallay hot girl from South America, and Chandler also has the hots for her. He decides to try and break them up and launches this campaign of really off-color, tasteless racial jokes any time she's not around to try and turn Joey against her. It works and they break up, but Chandler has moved on to someone else, and then in a leter ep we see Joey visiting a grave, and we're left to believe that she died of grief. It was funnier on screen; sounds kind of sad here.

I love the scen where Hnaks and scolari run into rachel at the strip club, only they are dressed as men imitating womwn..gosh what a comedy of errors!
