It would have to be on something like HBO or Showtime to live up to the graphic novels and movie. And would Frank Miller be writing every episode? If not then I dont know if it would be the same.

It really could be a perfect fit, if done right, for HBO. Other than that, they shouldn't bother. Toning it down for a network broadcast would be a disaster.

cause I don't want to sign up for them after they cancelled dead like me. But it was MGM that ruined dead like me, so I just have to not like either I guess.

  • And if you mention the film, I shall smite you. I'm talking about the Spawn series. I can see the visual style and the stories getting old somewhat quickly but a couple seasons would work well on HBO or ShowTime or whatever.

Has there ever been a good live action comic series?

    by eg4190

I tried to think of one but all I came up with were the 60's Batman, Wonder Woman, Mutant X, Birds of Prey, etc. etc. I guess the George Reeves Superman series was okay for its time, but it's kind of lame when you watch it now. How come the bad guys, upon running out of bullets to bounce off Superman, always threw the gun at him as though it would do something? And how come Superman always flinched?

    by brunothedog

I would love to see this in a gritty animated format. Fuck live-action; if you really want grit and gore and violence, anime is the way to go. The anime section of Kill Bill is the best part of both movies, in my opinion. Imagine that style in Sin City. I would watch.

    Rounders?

    by brunothedog

Missed that before...I dunno. This movie was pretty good, I thought, but it was too quiet and simple to make a good TV show out of. I mean, is it about Mike and Lester traveling the country playing in small games to get money to get into the tournament in Vegas? That would be like Maverick without the wit or charm. Yes, Maverick had wit and charm, bitches.

    by viranth

There is a lot of good tvshows being aired currently, if they manage to keep it similar to the movie, they have a instant success.

I would rather see it as miniseries or something, so they can keep the high quality from the movie, and not have to take shortcuts.

And as mentioned by others, this has to be done by HBO.

    Rounders fookin' rocks.

    by masterwhedon

I'm a big fan. John Dahl knows how to make him a taut film. I find the Sin City thing funny since Frank Miller was so careful about handing over the rights for years, and now he's like, fuck it! Do your own thing! I'm assuming he'd be the showrunner though, or he'd have to be for this thing to turn out halfway decent.

    It Could Work

If it were on HBO or even FX. That's the only way it could keep its edge. Come to think of it, it might be a worthy replacement for The Shield.

It's an easy sell cast-wise; it could be like Twilight Zone, where every episode features a different story about someone different in Sin City. I still would prefer to see it animated.

How much source material is even left...

    by childe roland

...in that very finite series of graphic novels? I mean, there's the story that was kind of glimpsed in the opening and closing sequences, and the Marv flashback to ancient times. Am I missing a bunch of stuff? What I can recall hardly seems like enough to do a whole series on (maybe another movie or two). Trust me, the last thing you want is Miller trying to write again. Whatever he was putting in his coffee back in the 80s, he's clearly run out of it (anybody read Dark Knight 2?). And even his "good" stuff doesn't necessarily hold up well when actors are reading the dialogue out loud (most of its designed to be internal monologue and just doesn't work any other way). Even if Frank did start churning out new material based on the world of the books, how far would the series get with his habit of killing off protagonists at the end of each story arc? I don't know... maybe it could work on cable.

Not all anime is spikey hair and bouncy boobs. I would prefer an exact style as Miller's. B&W with stylized flashes of color. If they go animation I hope they wont think if it is not color, people will not watch it. In fact the B&W part of the Animatrix (Detective Story I think) was awesome. And when I first watched it, Sin City was the first thing I thought of.

Because they don't have any liason between DC and HBO or the Warner Bros. studios. The exact opposite kind of thing going on at Marvel, where there is cooperation between publishing and film division and now between Marvel and Paramount.

    Miller A Sell Out?

    by barron34

Man, so what? Frank Miller wants to make some more Hollywood money. Who can blame him? SIN CITY was a faithful adaptation, he got a co-director credit, he got to work with good people, and he got paid. What is wrong with that? Myself, I would prefer to see more SIN CITY movies; I don't think a TV series would be easy to maintain; they would run out of source material too quick. They should just keep making movies. More power to Miller.

    I wouldn't call Miller a sell out...

    by leflambeur

Some people say he's become a hack (DK2). But that isn't the case at all. The problem is that these days he's obviously having more fun making his comics than anyone is having reading them. It seems to me that to him drawing has always been the means to an end. He is interested in lighting, composition, storytelling, I dont think he really cares about the technical processes of drawing. Which his where film comes in. Drawing comix can be a tedious process. He wants instant gratification. Lately film has been giving him that.

    by nubthesquirrel

Miller will never let that shit fly without his final approval. Let the movies be made and that's it. Unless Miller himself has a hand in the writing and creative side of things, Unless the show runs on HBO or Showtime fuckin' forget it.

Also concerning HBO's Spawn series, Head over to IGN or Spawn.com to hear mroe about the next season, Todd is apparently still seeing if he can pitch another season to HBO, but at the very least you'll end up with a new animated film. Apparently they're upping the quality with some CG for the cape and chains n'shit...

    by childe roland

...either, LeFlambeur. But I don't think his lack of patience for the artistic process involved in comics is what's holding him back from doing great things. It's his lack of fresh story ideas and reliance on that freshly-spun version of cliche-ridden, hard-boiled dialogue that has since become cliched itself (in his hands and many others). He's lost his edge because everyone else in comics (and movies and TV) spent 20+ years emulating his style and many surpassed him in it. Sin City the movie was cool in a retro way for folks familiar with Miller's history and what he did for comics, but if they keep going to that well they're eventually going to run out of the stuff that worked and end up pumping whatever self-indulgent piss he's churning out these days.

    by lone fox

Miller said a couple of months back that he could see the franchise spanning 5, 6, 7 movies, as he's been working on new Sin City tales.
But as they've already nailed the style perfectly, it could run the risk of becoming unimpressive, whereas it could cut quite a niche on TV... plus you could focus on one story per episode, really expand the Basin City universe.
    Fuckit, anything's good.
And how exactly is Miller a sell out? Retarded.

    Miller Is Not a Sell-Out

    by barron34

And, I could PERHAPS see SIN CITY working as a series on cable, as others have mentioned, but I still think it would be better served as a continuing film franchise. I just do not think that there is enough source material for a TV series. Also, I would like to see an animated RONIN film. I wonder if an older property like that would be viable, but it would look cool up onscreen, in my opinion.
