Wanna see some SOUTHLAND TALES pictures? Updated with sexy Krysta Now!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some really nifty pics from Richard Kelly's DONNIE DARKO follow-up, SOUTHLAND TALES. I spent a night onset just before wrap and will spill all very shortly, but in the meantime how about a few official stills? I love the look of the film so far. What about you folks?

fuck the naysayers. i freaking LOVED donnie darko. i haven't seen domino yet, but i'm fully expecting southland to kick pure fucking ass.
-
Dwight Johnson and Sean William Scott, they were awesome in Welcome to the Jungle, I hope they can keep up against character too..

Is that Cheri Oteri at the top? Good God this looks and sounds s
by george newman
-
woman on the right?
-
The worst aspects of Domino are noticeably Kelly-esque--like the stupid 90210 references that got watered down to the dumb subplot that exists now, the Tom Waits appearance, the NBK mescalin meltdown, etc.
Tarantino stealing cool scenes from actually good B movies: good. Kelly riffing on Smurfs and Springer: not good.
This should be every bit as cutesy as Donnie Darko. -
oteri and poehler...not to mention Grace Zabriskie...fuck me reggie
-
Reconfirms that this movie'll rock. The Rock looks bloody awesome in the suit.
-
Screw Oteri and Poehler...that looks to be Wood Harris, a.k.a. Avon Barksdale of HBO's The Wire, in the mix too! With Harris in this flick, Dominic West ("Jimmy McNulty") in 300, Idris Elba ("Stringer Bell") in The Gospel, and Clarke Peters ("Lestor Freamon") in Freedomland, is Hollywood finally waking up to tbe best show on TV? I love me some Deadwood, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc., but The Wire has 'em all beat hands down in both ambition and execution. If you're not on board, you should be.
-
Jeez, lick someone elses balls.
-
Even if it was the best movie of the year i doubt most people would go see it. I just dont see how they are going to sucessfully market such an odd looking and odd sounding movie.
-
Matthew Barney (Cremaster) with a dab of David Lynch. Even the extras look kind of psycho.
-
While Seannnnnnnnn William Scott looks on this picture like an actor, The Rock still looks like The Rock.
-
Mmm...Will Arnett's a lucky man.
-
WHO GIVES A SHIT!!, keep makin' em Kelly!
-
Im so there.....
-
All look cool by the way. I am a big fan of DD and I can't wait for this one.
-
You throw up four pics, including a big one of The Rock looking tough, but leave out the one of SMG sitting on a floating couch in a nighty? Poor editorial decision there.
-
If the entire promotional campaign is focussed on selling it as "from the creator of Donnie Darko." I doubt they can convince many people to see it for any other reason, despite looking as cool as all hell.
-
These look FUCKING AMAZING to me. There is no sense of character, no sense of context, no sense of anything other than the shot of adrenaline that a great movie gives me. I have been chomping at the bit for this for a long time. I think I've seen too much already. I can't read any more reports on this. Quint, you bastard, you're licking my tip and promising me the whole mouth, but I'M A MARRIED MAN! This isn't right, I must resist! Fuck I love me some visionary directors. There isn't one movie I'm more pumped to see right now with the possible exception of Goblet of Fire.
-
Nice to see Avon getting some work! THE WIRE IS THE BEST CRIME SHOW OF ALL TIME! And isn't SMG a porn star in this? I want her at my bachelor party! ---------------- Check this out, it references both strippers AND the Fortress of Solitude! Yay strippers!

I still don't know what this movie is. No-one really does, not even the fucking cast. Only Kelly in his insane mind. Still, any movie starring the Rock has to be great, right?... Well, I won't be passing judgement on this until I've seen it. I wouldn't trust a review from someone who cocksucks Donnie Darko because they'll just blindly see Southland Tales as gold.
-
I dug Donnie Darko, didn't see the directors cut although I plan to check it out, but I'm not gonna go ass monkey crazy for the guy like some people seem to be just yet. There is a li'le too much hype around and not enough actual results at the moment. Having said that I'm curious and interested in this film, I'm not writing it off by any means, I'm just gonna go into it with out any preconceived notions about Kelly being the new messiah.

Dear guys,
Just a note with an honest opinion.
I am a fan of both's work but my fear for this movie is as follows. Richard is working on a far bigger, far more ambitious scale than ever before. He may nail it or he may come up short. I hope its the first option. Secondly a big problem for this movie is Harry. Dont get me wrong. I love the guy and the site but sometimes he just comes on too strong. I appreciate the fact he is trying to sell his buddies movie but he needs to calm down. He has already set so many peoples expectations so gigh that they can never deliver. Unless this movie is an amalgam of Citizen Kane, Ben Hur and Jaws starring the Rock (who rules by the way)rolled into one (quality wise) the fans will be disappointed. So Harry in particular, AICN crew in general, just relax and Richard I hope you do it man. Knock it outta the park!!! -

The Wire vs. The Sopranos (bout for best crime show of all time)
by the_man_from_rio
the colonel, you said the wire was the best crime show of all time, but the sopranos is up there too. only difference is that The Sopranos deals with crime at a much higher level, like closing 1/4 of a billion dollar developments in Newark, the level Stringer and Barksdale wanted to get at. when
-
...it's Beth Grant, who played the Swayze-worshipping Mrs. Farmer in Donnie Darko. Just FYI...
-
...only if you didn't live in the 80s and don't watch or read good sci-fi. I can't see why it is such a cult fave.
-
I see your point. BUT, just because it's referencing other styles and stories doesn't make it unoriginal. That film is far more than the sum of it's parts. Starting with the performances through direction, set design, cinematography and writing it's very nearly flawlessly realised as something otherworldly and original. The cult following is annoying becuase it's now 50 percent goth retards claiming the movie as their own. These people are fucking idiots. But from someone who saw the film with precisely no hype or preconceptions AND who grew up on John Hughes movies let me tell you its a great fucking flick man.
-
and I don't know why!

This plot makes Donnie Darko look mainstream.

How Are We Supposed To Tell From These Pics Whether The Film Loo
by www.valiens.com
The Rock looks gaunt and creepy? The shots are well-composed? ...What am I supposed to say? It's not like this is X3 or Kong. It's normal people in normal clothing standing upright. What can I draw from that?
-
WTF? I've seen rappers that are better actors than that steroid filled wrestler.
-
Seriously, if you say you think the movie was great and that it's a future classic, you're just an ass.... That being said, I'm looking forward to this movie. I'm a sucker for quirky casts, and this seems like the quirkiest of all. - n/a
-
The Scorpion King showed his potential as a comedy action hero. We need more films like that.
-
Anything with Cheri Oteri and the Rock in it simultaneously is puzzling enough to warrant closer investigation. Doesn't mean it'll be good though.
-
...if you don't count that one time the Rock was on "SNL." You know what I mean, dammit.
-
In terms of pacing, writing, directing, acting and the consistency of the storyline week after week. Shit happens on the Sopranos one week, goes unmentioned the next. Beefs between the characters come in and out of focus nonsensically (and not in an intentional way, but in a lets-not-bring-it-up-again way) Don't get me wrong, first 2 seasons of Sopranos were terrific and I watch every ep, but its incredibly frustrating and uneven. Wire is almost always great. New contender though: Deadwood. Gotta be my favorite show right now.

by chickychow
Darko is way overrated, people. And this looks to be mucho retardo.

Because it seems odd to talk about genius in a TB about a rucking Richard Kelly movie. Kelly's not even good enough to be Omar's bitch.

I have no clue what this movie is trying to do. It looks cheesy, but serious--fun all at the same time (yes, I can decipher that from 4 or 5 pictures...aint I cool?). I have faith in Richard Kelly, though, and at least I know this will be something different. I just hope it's different from DD but still has that mix of fantasy, action, and down-to-earth suburban feel. www.unseenfilms.com
-
I've made no movies? Think again asshole. I'm not going to "Rob Mckittrick" myself on these boards, but just know....you're wrong.
-
Still my top choice for "Flash Gordon", though.
-
Both Oteri and Pohler are brilliant. Maybe Oteri's hyperactive little girl and Pohler's Caitlin should do an SNL sketch together.
-
OK, maybe not LIQUID SKY or THE HOLY MOUNTAIN weird, but weird. Hopefully Kelly's warped genius mind knows what he's doing. I'll be there opening day.
-
Okay, allow me to change it to "The Wire is the best COP show of all time." The Sopranos peaked early and lost its thematic centerpiece when Marchand died. The show was about Tony and his mom. Without Livia, the show lost itself a bit. It then focused on Tony and his wife, which made for some great stuff, peaking in Season 5. But the schedule is annoying. The Wire, as the creators have said, is a television NOVEL - an idea bolstered by its increasing reliance on crime novelists as writers: Pelecanos, Lehane, Price. Amazing show, on the short list for best, and most consistent, TV show ever. --------------------- http://www.intrepidmedia.com/column.asp?id=2146 ---------- Take it from me: I LOVE YOU!

You can find it on ifilm.com http://tinyurl.com/aho59

Sarah looks exactly like she did in Buffy season 4. Can't wait for this one even though I still haven't the faintest idea what its about.
-
Yeah, it's called 'The Rundown.' 'sokay, I sort of did the exact same thing. But just so's ya know, it's happened before. And that movie was just okay.
-
Let's be honest here.
-
I don't know about anyone else, but i thing SWS should be considered for the role of the Joker in the Next Bats film. He can pull of the gaunt look, has good cheek bone definition that could carry a big 'Tom Cruise, shit eating prosthetic smile' and his eyes, sometimes they portray the essence that everything is a big fucking joke and that he is slightly insane... i'm sure, under Nolans direction SWS could give a dark, scary, tragic and slightly funny performance that could blow us away.
-
Glad to see it get some attention in this TB. If you haven't seen it, RENT IT NOW. That way when season 4 rolls around next year, more people will watch and HBO won't axe it. Still pissed about Carnivale... Oh, and this Kelly film looks interesting. Anybody who can make Patrick Swayze a motivational speaker/pedophile is okay in my book.
-
Oh man, Sarah looks great. How the hell did they turn back her clock? R.Kelly (the good one) rocks simply for that!
-
why?
-
Dear UNICEF,
Please bomb the Wiggles.
Thank you,
Ace Hunter
P.S. - Thank you for making world suffering funny again. -
Yea that's DEFINITELY Amy Poehler on the far right of the (now 2nd) pic down (one with Stifler), but I BELIEVE... the female on the far right.... is the one and only Sarah Gilbert, she formerly of Roseanne fame. Think I got it?
-
THAT won't help me much in making my point! grrr... anyhoo, I meant to say the female on the FAR LEFT is Sarah Gilbert (again, I think)
-
Donnie Darko director's cut was a piece of shit. The original is proof that filmmakers can thrive in the face of adversity. Then came Domino...let's forget about that. Now this one. Is Kelly suffering from accelerated "Orson Welles" syndrome--great out of the gate, trips and falls hard soon after? We'll see.
-
...not much there.
-
break me offa piece of that vampire slayer action!!!
-
To himself.
-
Donnie Darko fucking rules. It makes absoulutely no sense at points, not even the director knows what it is about, but I feel I can piece enough of it together and enjoy what's actually there on the screen to really like the movie. With that said, everyone on these boards and all over the country have hyped this Richard Kelly dude to be something he's not proven. Give the man time, 3 or 4 films to see what he's all about. Most people are setting themselves up for a letdown already. Some people, no matter how good the film is, will hate it, just because it's the cool cinephile thing to do. Then again some people will take the exact opposite route and like it, just because it's the "in" thing to do, just like Donnie Darko was at its time. It's funny how movies that make no fucking sense always become the next big thing. Does it make people feel intelligent? Let's hope this doesn't go to Kellys head. I hope he doesn't take the mind trips too far. The guy obviously has some talent, I hope he puts it to good use. It seems as though Southland Tales is taking ridiculousness to the next level. With that said, I just lost all credibility. Fuck you! I know what I'm trying to say, and it makes a whole lot of fucking sense. Ooh Rah!
-
There was a kid who looked exactly like that at my school and he needed help to open his milk. The man is an over-achieving poster-boy for Downs Syndrome babies everywhere.

She was named as being a tattood body builder in this movie months ago...looks like that's what she is here.

...Buffay The Vampire Layer. Heh, I really miss Friends sometimes. Anyway, *are* there really flat-chested porn stars? Anyone? Bueller?
-
It looks more like Oteri's build...but, I haven't been watching Sarah's new show, so I have no way of knowing.
-
Definitely there are (milk) flat chested porn stars. Go check out any of the various (mans) thumbnail porn sites that cater to "teen" models. (book) Specifically something like MET art. Gotta love those 20 (.com) somethings that look like they're 14. Oops, typo, I meant 15, I'm no pervert.
-
Will this be the film that does it for him? Kinda hope so; he's got the charisma, he's getting massively confident with every movie, his acting is getting better with every movie and he just needs one great, attention grabbing film to do it for him. It's not gonna be Doom so this is the best shot he's got.
-
Even her toes are hot. did i just say that outloud?

Man, I love "The Wire!"
