Did producers for this show say at the beginning that no one was safe? I know they wanted to kill off Jack in the first episode (or was that a rumor). However, they seem to only be killing the most useless/annoying characters. They'd really throw everyone for a loop if they killed Claire and left Charlie alone with the baby. Claire is the next most useless character on the show (apart from being eye candy). You know what would be even more shocking? If Kate lost an arm or leg. How many episodes will it be before Sawyer and Girlfight start knocking boots, and then she treats him like crap afterwards?

    Who Kills Her...

    by LOST_Grendel

I've heard that Shannon dies, but we don't find out who killed her or why for 2 weeks (ending sweeps). But that it will be someone we all know, and will be for a VERY specific reason... My guess is Ana-Lucia, since this fits the time frame of the "tailgaters" coming over to the "Jacksquad"...but I'm still not entirely sure why. My guess... The sickness.

    Interesting choice.

    by Chastain-86

I hope to holy Yahweh that having her character killed off isn't her idea. Maggie might have felt that her movie career is taking off, and thus didn't want to be saddled with a series as stringent as this one... but I'm here to tell you it's a bad plan. "The Fog" is utter crap. Don't become Maclean Stevenson, Maggie. All is forgiven.

    by Hail

Shannon didn't have much of a part this season anyway. It's as if the writers didn't know what to do with her. Someone up above was right. She's in a very interesting place right now, but instead of using it, they're losing it. It's as if they're saying, "well, the story isn't over 'there,' it's over 'here,' so we'll kill her and get some higher points for the 'boldness.'" This is the laziest/most gimmicky show on TV, yet...I keep watching. They minute they spill the bean on the island the shows over.

I see two appetizing options for the killer: #1 Sun - making us realize she is not so sweet ... and much more like her father than we possibly knew. #2 Kate - making us remember, 'Oh yeah, the women is a cold blooded killer that gunned down two men she knew with no hesitation.' I'm thinking option #2 is more likely ... that Kate will grow to be a legendary 'love to hate' character. Maybe Kate'll kill Shannon to stop Shannon from telling Jake that Kate is responsible for Jack's wife's death?

  • Oct. 18, 2005, 7:07 p.m. CST

Why are we assuming she'll be murdered?

    by Gheorghe Zamfir

Spoiler is just that she dies, if I'm remembering correctly, all the deaths on this show so far have been deaths the survivors have brought on themselves in on way or another, no murdering or duplicity (except for Ethan, but he's not one of the survivors). Not that I'm discounting the murder ideas, just saying.

Jack or Sayid to kill the bitch!

    by performingmonkey

Any other character killing her would have little impact. Jack has become a really volatile character so it wouldn't surprise me if he was the killer. For those who don't know, the rumour (i.e. fact) is that she realises what Zombie Walt is trying to tell her - 'don't push the fucking button, the button is bad, you blond bimbo bitch', so she goes down the hatch to destroy the computer, hoping her visions will end. the shadows is someone waiting with a gun. They execute her, but we don't see who it is. My guess is that they'll give us fake hints of who it is. They'll probably make us think it was Locke, considering he's the one most obsessed with pressing the button. But it'd be the biggest anti-climax if it was him. And he's far too important to the show to be the killer. Sayid or Jack is my bet. I believe they are both getting 'sick'. Evil Sun would be a good twist though. It's possible that her father is linked to Dharma and that she has been pretending to be innocent all along, even to Jin. But Jin appearing in Hurley's vision speaking English also has to be important.

Sounds true, I'd bet on it being tied into the fire we know about. Like I'd bet on the WHITE SOX mistrmindqed, that boston twit who was spewing wet farts here the other week. But I do stand humbled by the fact the Swan is still intact...I thought for sure it'd get blown up by now. And what's with the 'in' clique to be the arbiters of who knows about the Swan & all the stuff there? Sure, show constraints force the small-group focus, but I'd bash Jacks head in if I learned he was keeping that shit from me. They need to re-secure the hatch (welding gear inside?)& set up a fortress for everyone NOW...they know serious shit is coming down!! Jesus, they have the firepower to sink the Others' boat & kill them all at will...gee, wonder if that will change soon? It probby has to go boom soon, but we'll see.

SHE get sick/evil & someone kills her in self defense? Who knows. The back-enders don't seem truly evil, so I can't see ana-chick doing it. It looks like they've seen the Evil Shit first hand & are justifiably freaked out. I'd say Shannon turns or she's the first front-end Others victim, as they can't try to make us swallow another random death....can they?

C'mon...Are We Really All Falling For This?

    by Deandome

Just a theory on the we really buy this...ANY of this (Shannon and/or Locke)? The #1 show on TV (close enough) in which secrets & secrecy are the very core of the show...and we're getting spoilers of things this important this far in advance? It's gotta be a plant, and thus probably a red herring...maybe Shannon dies, maybe someone else, maybe no one. If anyone outside the inner Lost circle actually saw an advance episode and/or script, there would be a LOT more chatter about stuff in the same ep that's a LOT more crucial to the story. Think about it, 'knowing' about her death, as we all agree, spoils nothing in the grand scheme of the show, so clearly someone is either leaking something trivial just to create buzz (er....this would be the beginning of sweeps, right?) or just to fuck with all the people who keep obsesssively guessing at things (read "US"). It MIGHT be true, but I'd say it's 50-50...I ain't digging her grave yet!

I was hoping they'd kill Kate, but she was okay in those dating service commercials on late at night. Shannon's an okay choice. Jack doesn't kill her, he just fails to save her like he failed to save her dad and step brother. I loved the post that said "Hurley eats her". That would be an episode worth a $1.99 download. Only afterwards they find out he's her long 'lost' brother Lumpy Rutherford. In despair he jumps off a black rock and shatters both legs, then Jack fails to save him. And Shannon's killer turns out to be... the woman in a bikini who wanders around in the back of every crowd scene, sick and tired of waiting to be discovered. Jin and Sun get back toether and cook Vincent in celebration. Charlie OD's for spring sweeps and Locke's past life as a CIA operative turns out to be the third "Lost"/"Alias" link.

  • Seriously, I thought she'd be turned into a fascinating monster like Nadine from the Stand, rather than killed off like her brother. I thought her brother only existed so that his death could motivate her to do something later. I'm now confused why Boone was developed at all last year with the whole incest thing. If both characters are dead, how the hell did that episode contribute to ANYTHING? To me this sounds like they changed their minds about stuff. I'm sorry that was necessary, and I wonder how many other flashbacks/back stories will come to nothing now. Jin and Sun better look out, because after Boone and Shannon they are the next two most underdeveloped regulars!

Yeah his storyline...really both of their storylines become a waste if she gets killed. Unless she gets killed in some "noble act" or whatever...but even that would be lame and a weak, weak attempt at writing. I mean, if they really want to kill someone off...kill Sun. She basically just takes up space now, and it would make for great "TV drama" to have her die, thinking Jin's dead. Then Jin can come back to camp and yell "Sonofabitch!", while the whole island gasp that he can speak English

Her death might make Sayid do something

    by Drath

That's the only thing that makes sense to me, that her death will have an affect on Sayid. Also Jack failed to save her brother, and failed to save her dad, so that could come into play...possibly turning Jack and Sayid against each other. But again I don't know how the incest with Boone contributed anything to the ongoing story. Also, it just occured to me that it could have been said Shannon died last season too. Is her upcoming death a keeper or yet another fake out?

The only other way Shannon's death might be plausable is if she had the "sickness" and wanted to die, or wa killed by Jack to spare her the pain. But for that to even play out right, we'd need some time for the sickness to develop over several episodes..and sweeps week aint it!

    by Drath

Incest has been applied to step siblings plenty, and in this case they were even raised together as brother and sister, so there is still a lot of ick to it even if you do think it's not as bad as sleeping with your cousin. Their having sex was a major move for both characters that appears to have gone absolutely nowhere, which is worth discussing.

The great thing about Lost is...

    by Kikstad

...even if characters die, things might always be what they appear to be. And dead characters can always come back somehow (flashbacks, visions, funky twists like they didn't really die after all). It'll be a shame that Shannon is leaving though -- she's wonderful eye-candy.

  • Oct. 19, 2005, 1:39 p.m. CST

    Dead characters

    by Losteroo

I would agree that dead characters could come back in flashbacks, etc, but I figured that was the purpose of killing Boone off and leaving Shannon alive. Unless they show up in someone else's flashback as a cameo, then that's about it for either of their screentimes. Unless they show up in the Black Lodge with Walt or something. But actually, I think I'm starting to agree with Deandome's theory that she'll "die" but then be saved in some "redemtion" angle. I can honestly see that happening. I mean, technically Charlie died too, so anything could happen. I just can't seem to shake this feeling that this "spoiler" is somewhat of a red herring.

    by Mr Nice Gaius

Mine eyes! They are blinded...blinded by the spoiler. Who am I kidding? I couldn't even resist the Talk Back subject titles. Actually, this seems a little contrived to me. Granted, Shannon doesn't have the meatiest role on LOST. But killing her off doesn't seem to have much a dramatic point...yet. Has there been that much of a "Shannon Story" build-up that will make her death genuinely felt on the show? (I mean other than the obvious drop in P.O.A percentage.) Knowing LOST the way we all do, I'm sure (and hopeful) that there will be much more to it than what we know so far. We'll just have to wait for the actual episode to air. Until nextime Invisotext...

If they kill Shannon, the terrorists win

    by thegreenvortex

Seriously, though, if they kill both Boone and Shannon, aren't they admitting that they never had any idea what these characters were doing on the island in the first place? The monster attacking Shannon (even though it was later revealed to be a fake-out) was the scariest moment this show has realized. Ironic that it will jump the shark by really killing her.

  • Oct. 19, 2005, 2:14 p.m. CST

    Correct me if I'm wrong

    by FrodosBlueBalls

but either this site or some other site or ABC was advertising that they were going to kill off somebody in that episode where Boone thinks the "monster" killed her, but copped out then. by snowpuff

That I suspect is cause of Shannon's demise. Michelle Rodriguez in, Maggie Grace out. Lost is an expensive show and ABC has put a lot of pressure to reduce the costs. But even so, you will rarely see a show add an "up front" character without balancing it out somewhere else. That usually means someone else getting cut. IMHO, Evangeline Lilly would be a more interesting character to cut - I think her importance to the show is highly overestimated.

    by Ribbons

I agree that this probably isn't the greatest idea. It's, maybe, economical, but they should at least explore the fact that, for the first time in a long time, she can't rely on Boone. Besides for Sayid, she's sort of alone. And not only does that take her out of her comfort zone, but it's sort of an interesting way to look at how survivors would react if separated from loved ones. I think so anyway. This show needs to be more consistently devoted to character. The last two episodes were great, but I don't know how much that's a priority to TPTB considering they're going to kill Shannon off without even devoting 45 minutes to her post-Boone. Oh well.

    "Trust Issues"

    by jedimast3r

Shannon will probably start to exhibit traits that Walt and the "others" have...I'm thinking that 1) The "Others" were once castaways and/or residents of the island compound, gone bad, zombified, or Lord of the Flies-y... 2) it's caused by an experiment gone wild a long time ago on the island by the scientific compound...3) the "Others" infect those exposed to them with this disease (a-la the "T" virus in Resident Evil), and Shannon, seeing Walt, has been exposed somehow...4) The "Back of the Plane-ers" have been slowly picked off by the "Zombie Others" since the spread of the disease causes the infected to become hostile, psychotic, turning them against everyone (hence creating "trust" issues...5) this "disease" that zombifies is the same disease referenced by Danielle (which also infected and took her people) and her "others" are also one and the same...6) all of this is going to culminate into a January Sweeps major revelation a-la Alias in which the lid is totally blown open on things and we head into a vastly, VERY different direction. At least, this has been my take so far since seeing the Dharma film, thinking about Danielle's ramblings, and reading "theislandiswaiting" spoilers.

Jin ask Echo if he was married...Echo replies no...worst. Than we have the conversation between Michelle Rog and Sawyer asking Sawyer if he was gay. I think Michelle wants some action and couldn't get any until Sawyer shows up 'cuz Echo just doesn't have the desire. I assume Echo is one of the Nigerian smugglers in the small airplane that Boone and Locke discovered in the jungle (that ultimatly killed Boone) Being gay in Nigeria is not a good thing...maybe Ecko kills Shannon after she puts two and two together about the plane...or maybe Ecko kills the Hobbit for stealing one of the Mona Lisas.

  • My god, it all makes sense! The Monster is the Crocodile, that's why we hear that mechanical ticking sound! And the "Others" must be Captain Hook's 21 century pirates and they wanted Walt because they knew Peter Pan will be coming for him! That's why the Island healed Locke! by Banky the Hack

Dude, those are "Madonnas" not "Mona Lisa". And I think Echo said "was" to the question of if he was married or not.

  • Watch how he looks up in Michael's approaching directions, says he lost the track, then takes off in the opposite direction, just before Michael pops up on the other side of the bank. Then Echo instantly finds Michael and Jin with nothing to go on, because Michael's screams were muted by the waterfall...think about it, how does a group of 23 dwindled to 4 with a tracker who knows how to evade the Others? IMO, he's still the survivor of the African drug plane, has been on the island for a while, and is able to hide his identity because Hurley has the flight manifesto.

Losing Shannon is a matter of practicality

    by Hobbs

It's certainly not a very bold move to have Shannon offed, but it's probably driven by necessity more than anything else. The A-Team has been fractured into multiple subplots this season, and it's getting hard to keep up with everybody. Kate, Locke, and Jack made very brief appearances and Charlie was nowhere to be seen. One way to fix that is to eliminate a character entirely. I think it's an effort to try to refocus the story a bit. The only problem is that she wasn't taking up a whole lot of the focus to begin with, especially after Boone died. It would have been pretty gutsy to kill off one of the core players - who I define to be Jack, Locke, Kate, Hurley, Michael, and Sayid - but as I predictated in a previous talkback, those folks are untouchable. If any of that crew dies it will be "season finale material" not mid-season drama but I think even that is unlikely.

and I may be reading too much into what Eko actually said because of the thick, I may have watched too many episodes of OZ.

  • I've posted these before from IMDb and there have been only some small changes so I won't repost the whole thing. Some interesting details forthcoming. The next episode is entitled "Abandoned" and it appears to be centered around Jack (or least it's somehow hospital related based on the casting of a doctor and an intern). There are no recurring characters guest appearances among those currently listed. The next episode is entitled "The Other 48 Days" which probably means we're going to get either flashbacks or some form of history about what has happened since the crash with the tail section survivors. They've removed the character "Kelvin" from the casting (he was there last week) but the actor portraying Kelvin also plays the Bearded Man who we've already seen - Walt's kidnapper. (Kelvin, if you'll recall, was Desmond's predecessor in the hatch). Bearded Man should appear in "The Other 48 Days" episode. Finally, the last episode listed is entitled "Cosmos" and appears to be centered around Charlie's flashbacks. We get the reappearance of Desmond as well as the reappearance Dr. Marvin Candle from the Dharma video (played by actor Marvin Candle). Back to Kelvin - I looked up previous post on this material and the cast list for last night's episode did include actor M.C. Gainey as Kelvin (aka the Bearded Man), but unless all we saw was Kelvin's legs with the Others, he wasn't in last night's episode. It could be that a late edit in episode was the reason for his disappearance from both the show and cast list, but I honestly don't know how late networks can edit shows like "Lost" to remove scenes. I pasted that cast list from IMDb last Thursday.

My TiVO had an episode set to record next week, and the description mentioned Sawyer's wound making him sick. By the time yesterday's aired, it was no longer on the TiVO To Do list, and we know the next episode is in three weeks. Anyone else catch this (I didn't read all these posts, so sorry if I'm repeating someone)? Was the date changed? Is it being reworked since the leak? Is this a real leak or a fake like all those that came before teh season finale?

  • Oct. 21, 2005, 1:30 a.m. CST

    by Hairy Nutsack

I like the flashbacks too, but this week's episode really was filler. The only significant thing that happened was we learned that the others have really dirty legs, kill without mercy, and may all be children. Out of the 40 minutes or so of actual show (commercial breaks are getting re-fucking-diculously long!) we got 2 minutes of important information. I LOVE the show so stop with the "stop whining" comments before they start please! I'd just like to see some plot development that goes beyond Jin and Sun really love each other, we knew that already. If there was to be another Jin/Sun flashback how about more on Sun's father's business and how/if it relates to Hanso Foundation. Wedding ring?!?!?!?! **roll eyes smiley**

    If only...

    by Napoleon Park

Darn hairy, you totally preempted my weekly :stop whining" post with your insigntful commentary. Jeepers. ***** IMDb totaly has the dates for upcoming episodes wrong and doesn't have Cynthia Watros as Libby listed on any upcoming episodees or even the two she's been on so far. ***** for the first season at least I was convinced this is realy an anthology show where the real writing and story is ALL ABOUT the flashbacks and the island stuff is just filler and framing device. ***** It's just so darn bad that there aren't any shows on TV where the entire story is told in one hour with all the plot threads resolved and nothing left dangling, so that there could be a ghost whisperer talkback and everyone could write about how happy it is to have stories where everything is resolved by the end of the hour, so they don't have to think about the show when it's over. If only... No wait, then they'd all be crying about "who was that laughing man and what did he have to do with the rest of the story". Yes I like "Ghost Whisperer" just because it's G-rated feel good pap doesn't make it not entertaining. Besides, that little Elvira mole by the corner of Love's eye totally does it for me.

So this is the departure (short memories, everyone?)

    by Discosis

Lindelof (I think?) mentioned months back that there was someone they couldnt work out a deal with for season 2, would go away around episode 6 and never be seen or heard from again ... and that they were sad about it, but figured that they'd done all they needed to do with the character. So now I guess we know who...

  • No one acts like that fucking thing is actually out there (especially Jack, who seems to be from the Dana Scully school of skeptical dumbasses). That's not the same thing as demanding closure because of a short attention span, so please put away the apologist's rant. The show HAS been terrible about maintaining the threat that the monster appeared to be in the pilot. First thing anyone ever says about going across the island should be at least SOME concern about the giant ass predator that's on this island. To say nothing of the fucking polar bears! No one acts like they think this thing is real, even people that damn well KNOW it's real, and that frankly reduces my belief in the characters. The monster is about as scary now as a Star Trek alien, I don't think it'll hurt any of the regulars anymore and that's a huge fuck up on the part of the writers in my opinion.

    Like Weapon X...

    by Vex Machine

Everyone on the island is either a clone or plugged into some Matrix-y VR machine, or whatever... they aren't really who they are... even though they are. The show is built around the flashbacks, which will end up being revealed to be either residual memories that the clones have of their "source life", or that the memories are being manipulated by whomever is running the experiment, or both. This will explain all of the ridiculous coincidences and seemingly accidental flubs. At some point, Locke or Jack or whomever is going to catch something in his or her own flashback that doesn't add up... or will learn of an impossible coincidence with another survivor, and that's when everything will finally be revealed. Or not. This might just be a brain fart. Drive through.

i don't think they would do that, it would piss too many people off. although Lindelof did say that we only think we know what time period it takes place in.

    by jpdill

... i think Hercs said it to throw us off the actual episode. So a different person dies. But if Shannon dies, it's no biggie - it's annoying, because she has some potential to be like the only one who can communicate with the Others, but other than that, nothing.

  • Oct. 21, 2005, 5:44 p.m. CST

    by Silverhour

This is something I've been speculating since the start of the show. I think they are all dead, all of them, and this is purgatory, the place between Heaven and Hell, where souls with no definate destination linger until something happens to push them one way or another. They all seem to have unresolved issues (Micheal and Walt, Jack and his father, Charlies drug addiction, Shannon and Boone, etc.) I'll admit that as the series goes, this theory becomes less and less supported, but it could still come back to it.

  • Oct. 21, 2005, 5:51 p.m. CST

    To add to that...

    by Silverhour

As their issues are dealt with, they will leave the island (IE, 'die') so whatever is holding Shannon back may be resolved, and therefore she is able to 'move on.'
