Lame As Hell Teaser For X3 Hits Online!

Published at:  Oct 17, 2005 12:30:03 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here. The site for X3 just popped up, and they have a thing they're calling a Teaser on that site that is just lame as lame gets. I just really think Fox chose incredibly wrong with Brett Ratner. Of course, it's way too late in the game to pull the plug on the goofy "director" - right? I mean, can you imagine if they did the opposite of what Warners did on EXORCIST prequel - and pulled the plug on a shitty director and brought in a great director - rebooted from the beginning. Shitcanned their ridiculous release date and made a great third act to this X-MEN trilogy? Yeah yeah yeah, I know... a dream is a wish your heart makes. We'll just have to live with Ratner, I s'pose.

Hi harry !

here you can see a teaser for x3...

Luckily I was really in the mood to see something cheesy and lame tonight...And I just satisfied my hunger by watching this silly trailer...pretty lame and funny even for teaser standards.

I am sure I won't be laughing when this piece of shit movie comes out next Spring though.

    by headgeek

Didn't say it was a TEASER TRAILER - but if you watch while it loads - up in the top right side it says, "Teaser Trailer" - obviously there's no way that Fox would put that in a theater as a Teaser Trailer - it's only a "Teaser" for the site - and even as that, it's lame.

hm...i dunno what bryan singer did to you guys- yeah he's a good filmmaker but-

nothing that we've seen from superman has made us go gaga.

all the pics of superman in costume look crap.

and some of the pics from x3 look crap.

let's just wait until the film comes out like we did when we all though the first x-men would be the shit to end all shit based on halle berry's wig alone.

haha like what i say here will matter anyway- everyone will go on with their own unfair opinions. but i'm still gonna wait until some official footage of the actual movie comes out before i begin to form my opinion.

No - the screenwriters of X2 are on SUPERMAN. The writers of this are the brilliant minds behind FANTASTIC FOUR. So obviously you're in "great" hands. Ahem. as for "juslikethawater" -- I'd love to be completely blown away by X3. I just don't hold out much hope based on the folks in charge.

Even well after AICN ripped it WB was more than willing to move forward with it, and were for a long while, but directors kept dropping out, when they had directors they couldn't figure out a budget, if they did they couldn't agree on an actor, that probect was just a mess with no one in charge and fell apart on its own.

I didn't care for X-Men 1 too much, but number 2 blew my mind. They really set up for a potentially great cap to a sweet series. Too bad they've got Ratner onboard. Actually, I'm not even worried about Ratner as much as I am the dreaded Fantastic Four writing team. What fucking moron not only hired them for that movie, but also continues to think they have any grasp on superheroes. Kinsberg wrote Mr and Mrs Smith, and that wasn't terrible. By all means, let him write some more of those kinds of flicks. But keep his fucking stamp off of the X-Men! GRR! *end bitter rant*

    by greatwhitenoise

Granted, Ratner wouldn't be my first choice either, and the whole thing does seem like a very rushed up-yours in Bryan Singer's direction, but there's not a lot in that "teaser" to sway anything one way or the other, IMHO. Seeing how they're still buggering up the traffic patterns up here in Vancouver with their shooting schedule, I can't imagine they'd have much to show yet anyway. So this juror's still waaaay out on this one.

    y'know, i don't like ratner, but...

    by chief redcock

i haven't COMPLETELY given up faith yet... call me crazy, but i haven't. why? red dragon, mainly... it shows that ratner can film a good story, when he's given one, at least reasonably well. whether X3 has a good story or not is questionable, but remember, not the rat's fault. i've gotta say, i'm not a huge bryan singer fan either. the usual suspects has its moments, but it feels rather gimmicky and limited after multiple viewings. the first x-men was dull, origin story bullshit, like watching an episode of the cartoon or something... X2 was MUCH better (it arguably might be singer's best film), and it royally pisses me off that singer didn't stick around to finish what he started. still, that's singer's fault and the layer cake guy, who also ducked for cover. you can't blame the rat for everything... remember, the script is supposed to suck. this thing began to tank long before he scurried on board...

  • Pre-teaser should be a word, a lot of movies make these, I suppose they make good website introductions. I don't know anything about the director but, considering how little ise seen, I'm surprised to see a word like "lame" in your headline. All they show (essentially) is an animated logo... kinda hard to judge the movie at this point.

    by bass ackwards

Its not even finished yet, the fact that its not rated doesn't mean anything. Anyways, Ratner has no say in what the film is rated, there's no way the studio will let this go out as an R-rated flick. Not that it needs to be R anyways.

Sorry, not even a remote chance, no way the studio is gonna take a comic book property like X-Men and cut out its teen audience. Plus I'm sure an R-rating forfeits a lot of licensing agreements with toys, BK kids meals, etc. Either way, an R-rating isn't some kind of unspoken sign of quality, PG-13 is just fine for this kind of stuff, no matter how dark the film may want to go.

This is proof that Ratner makes terrible websites. I hope he doesn't make the new Spider-man website. That would be bad. Ratner is apparently a terrible web designer. The X-Men 3 website is doomed!! Damn, why did they hire Ratner to design the website anyway? Wouldn't becoming a web designer would be beneath his stature. I think next time they should get a web designer to do the web site and leave the Director for the film....This may look like a website intro, but it says "Teaser Trailer" on it. Does that make it a trailer? Oh my look, its something brown on the ground...Looks like shit..Smells like shit...but there's a sign on it that says "cherry pie", would you like some Harry?

X-Franchise, what the heck did you expect?

    by bargin hunter in 3d

I expected FOX to stay true to the high quality production of the first two (except for the flight stick in the Blackbird in X Men). But alas HOLLYWOODLAND has let me down again. I'm sure that the Wolverine spin-off(s) will come along and run this franchise further into the ground. The thing to remeber is the grosses are soon to be coming from more from overseas markets, the "dumbing down" is in the distributor's interest for a more paletable offering to European and Asian film goers. These movies aren't designed for the "Geek Coinsure" who demands logical plots with nubile vixens with half their tits hanging out of spandex jumpsuits. Nope this is about selling figures, T-shirts and Slurpee cups, not to mention the 3rd, 4th and 5th "windows". Fox will milk this bad boy as long as possible, heck it took 10 movies for Paramount to kill the Star Trek franchise, so look forward to at the very least 6-7 more X men films, yup gotta love HOLLYWOODLAND, they have it all figured out...damn I wish I was smart enough to work there.

Now, granted, that may turn out to be a case of not saying much about either film, but it definitely says something about the fickle nature of Harry's sequel enthusiasm.

    by shermdawg

because this is my favorite sci-fi property, and it would work a hell of a lot better as a tv show. It would be far more rewarding for Fox, and the fans if they went that route. Let's face it there is waaaaaay too many characters to cover in the films. Six seasons with a Wolverine trilogy on the side. *sigh* It'll never happen though, Fox wants their returns now, instead of building a long running franchise. Just look how they fucked Alien, Predator, AVP, Planet of the Apes, just to name a few, and you can add X-men to that list next year. Oh and by the way, weren't they supposed to release the teaser trailer for X3 in December? Wasn't it supposed to feature a mutant jailbreak from Alcatraz? Didn't this very website report about it? Or am I mistaken?

    by i dunno

But no, I don't keep Hollywood in business. I see very few movies in the theater compared to what I used to and that trend is growing in the US. Box office sales are way down an Hollywood's getting the message. Of course they refuse to acknowledge it and will blame it on anything other than their movies sucking but they'll catch on eventually.

Why all the hatred towards X3...it doesn't seem justified if you ask me. You haven't seen shit yet, but you fuckers keep complaining about it b/c Ratner isn't a fanboy. You know what else he's not....gay. Singer sucks. X1 was horrendous and X2 lost a lot after repeated viewings. It seems to me like Harry has some vendetta here, which is fine and he's more than entitled to b/c it is his website.

    by mr. profit

Everyone else uses it here. How could you think I was serious? I still disliked the films. Sue me. I don't get all pissy about them. I am just to the point that both of them were really underwhelming so I am not really anticipating the 3rd so much. I also don't get how overrated the films were. I expect more, better even especially since you can do alot with the Xmen films. And the look of the films suck. Nothing great or anything that makes it look like a real film. For 135 mil, X2 looked cheap. Which brings me to King Kong. I thought they hired Jackson because he could do alot with a decent budget, so why do I keep hearing Kong is hovering pass 200 mil? And there is no need to get all angry here. At the end of the day, these movies are made for kids.

    by mechatruffautmk2

This isn't even an actual teaser trailer...what's there to get so upset about? If this was the website for King Kong, and all it featured was a quaking earth and then a foot stomping the ground, followed by a swooshing CGI logo (I hate these) you'd all be going insane for it. I can't say I have any faith in Ratner, and the rumors about the plot/character deaths have sounded really, really bad, but give me a break...there's no way in hell you can judge this film based on the opening animations of a cheap official website. Get a grip. And what was so terrible about Fantastic Four anyway? The performances were really quite decent, and the whole thing was fairly charming. I'm not saying I forgive the completely off rendition of Doom, but overall it wasn't such a horrible sci-fi/comedy film. It could have been a hell of a lot worse, and its success means we'll get a much better sequel...is that really so bad?

    Fuck Singer

    by nightarrows

"everyone responsible for fucking this movie should be infected with AIDS and ebola"
Single greatest thing ever said in the Talkbacks! Hahahahahahahaha! Man, that made my day. As for Singer....fuck him. With X1 he singlehandedly (or the writers, or whoever) ruined the Wolverine/Sabertooth factor by casting a dumb fucking half mute douche as Sabertooth, thus destroying the eloquently savage and cunning character that resides in the best issues of X-Men. What do we get instead? Wolverine fights Sabertooth in possibly one of the lamest fight scenes ever and then fights a chick. He had at least 5 movies worth of kick ass cat and mouse games built in with Wolverine and Sabertooth, but nooooo they go and fuck the dog. Next up, X2 where they make Wolvie fuck the shit out of the invading force at the X-Mansion, but then slap the panties on him and turn him into a fucking pussy against the INCREDIBLY lame Deathstrike all to satisfy the Asian 12 year old boy portion of the audience who all wish they were in fact Asian girls so they could wear the fancy costumes and shriek in an even higher voice like Sailor Moon. We get a gay ending to that fight where the little bitch Wolverine only wins because there is a hot hose present and sticks it in her. SO fuck singer, and if Ratner fucks this movie I hope he DOES get ebola and runs and tongue kisses Singer too. Then they can go hop on a plane to Eddie Moneys Paradise and start a Leper colony for shit directors with Paul Waste of Space Anderson as the head moron in charge.

Deal with gay couples in public holding hands. Deal with Gay Marriage. Of course I live in liberal Portland Oregon and not on some podunk farm in Arkansas so of course I would feel that way. by shermdawg

Solid Snake himself, David Hayter wrote the screenplay for X1, yes it did blow, and yes he royally fucked Sabretooth. Hopefully they will correct that mistake if the Wolvie franchise takes off. If they had to go with a pro wrestler for that role, they should have went with Sid Vicious, he had the right look, and damn near close of a personality to Creed. If he and Gary Busey ( The non crazy version, well...maybe the crazty version would work. ) had had a kid, it would have made a great Sabretooth.

    by kai_mah'gra

......on the one hand, you have Bret "the Rat" Ratner directing it, so normally that would imply major suckage...........but on the other hand, Harry's already unsheathed his fangs and deathrays for this baby, way too early (What's wrong Harry? No gift basket yet?). And we all know how far Harold's opinion usually goes (Domino, anyone?) vis-a-vis, movies' prospects. The fact that Harry's in fullswing dumping mode for this movie, might actually portend great tidings for the movie. In recent history, any movie Harry has slammed, has gone on to moderate or great success, while movie's he's fellated, have been certifiable disasters and mostly forgettable crapfests (Domino, anyone?). I'm not saying, that X3 is going to be a masterpiece just because Harry's slamming it, but then again FF4, wasn't the exactly toxic pile of cowdung that Harry and AICN conditioned us to expect. (Domino, anyone?)

I understand this site isn't suppose to be "news" centric, and there is a large editorialized spin to the information posted, however...I feel that lately the ratio of opinion to news is becoming top heavy. This article is a great example...we all know that this link, whether a prelude to a new site, or a splash page, etc. is not the teaser trailer they are going to show in theaters, and the fact that Harry posted it with such a relentless pounding, especially given that he says he wants it to be good, is really quite astonishing. There's not even any real footage in this thing and Harry blitzed it. The ironic thing is, I definitely agree about the opinion, in regards to my feelings about how Ratner will handle this thing, but if we want to be truly optimistic about something, can we at least wait until their is something tangible before we set the hounds loose? God knows there was plenty of tribute and praising done for Serenity on this site before there was any footage. Just putting out a call for a bit of fairness. We love the opinions and editorializing, it's what keeps us coming because we love to argue movies, and we love to predict what things will look like, but let's not lambast the film itself before there's even any footage.

Not even a miniseries could do it justice as it is far too complex in it's metaphorical direction, it's nuances and it's strangeness to bring across faithfully. Went out to a movie last week, here in Vancouver - where X3 is filming. Sitting in the row behind me was none other than Magneto himself, Ian McKellan. Pretty cool, I thought, but I am not the type to fawn over a celeb -- especially when he seemed to be enjoying a quiet night out with his partner. Anyway, the first trailer comes on and it was for "Everything is Illuminated" starring none other than little Elijah Wood! A surreal moment. The next trailer featured another of Sir Ian's co-stars -- Anna Paquin. If there had been a trailer for a Brendan Fraser flick in the mix, I would have totally lost it.

To these people who say they're glad Singer is gone...

    by ribbons

...he also took his writing crew with him. And maybe you're glad they're gone too. But they're better than Simon Kinberg (and Singer is better than Ratner, for that matter; just because some crazy shit doesn't happen in every frame doesn't mean Singer doesn't know what he's doing behind the camera) and, unlike Singer, Ratner probably won't do anything to supervise the story. He'll just take whatever toilet paper they give him and film it. But whatever. Fuck Singer, you're glad he's gone, no Sentinels, bring on Ratner, action, yadda yadda yadda. Just don't act all surprised when you hear lines like "I have a magnetic personality" or "Didn't your mom ever tell you not to play with fire?" riddled throughout the script.

    Reply to Talkback

  • There are some shocking moments which also seem like a waste of characters in X3's screenplay but I still think that this film will play and feel like X1 and 2. I'm sorry but Singer has very few touches that distinguish him from any other director for hire in Hollywood. Ratner is a better director of action - there, I said it - but if you watch the last third of X2 it is sloppy and muddled because Singer can't coordinate action at all. This does not bode well for Superman, particularly when that movie is on a serious scale. I imagine Harris and Dougherty have just ripped off the Supreme Power comics for the money shots in the Superman films, saves on the storyboards! Ratner will do alright, you'll not know the difference so I think AICN should shut up. Yeah, you can tie yourselves to the good ships Raimi and Jackson, but the Spiderman films are eneven and patchy and King Kong looks like Dino-fucking-Topia or some other Hallmark-esque abomination.

Whoa, so Ratcrap can direct action better (apparently). Well that's great, but that doesn't make him a better director. And this meme that Singer's a mediocre director because you can't "distinguish" his style from anybody else's is insane. If I showed you a Spike Jonze movie, would you know you were watching one? How about a Curtis Hanson movie (and if you say "yes" to both, you're a lying sack of crap)? I don't think Ratner's direction will make the movie bad so much as the script will, but that's something it should be Ratner's responsibility to oversee and he just won't, which is why Fox loves him in the first place, which is why it sucks that he's directing this movie. As for Kinberg's re-writes: Kinberg "touching things up" probably means that the story is more or less the same, only now with those horrible, horrible puns that he crammed 'Fantastic Four' and 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' with because there must be levity, and if you can't find any in the situation, manufacture it with some self-conscious dialogue that's not even funny to begin with. Fantastic.

    by mtoast

He's in Vancouver 'cause they're shooting X3 here. He was in the movie theatre, I suppose, because he wanted to see a movie. The film was actually Thumbsucker. Everything is Illuminated was the first trailer before the feature started. I can tell you that Sir Ian seems to be the type of actor who likes to be part of the community when he's on location. When he was here shooting X2, he went jogging daily along the seawall, put on a one-man show to raise funds for a local theatre company, starred in a low-budget film by a local director and even appeared unnanounced at an opening night screening of The Return of the King, giving a little speech. I think it was even at the same cinema where he took in Thumbsucker. So he's not some isolated Hollywood asshole. He's the kinda' guy who goes to a movie, buys a popcorn and a tub of Coke and mingles with real human beings.

    Ribbons...

    by mtoast

Yes, he seems like a cool and down to earth person. My only other public X-men sighting occured during the filming of X2. I was with a friend who was working on lighting for the film. We were walking along the beach and I saw this dude with the weirdest haircut I had seen in my life. I couldn't help but stare. My friend pointed, leaned over to me and said, "Hugh Jackman's body-double." Sir Ian was a little cooler than that.

    by mtoast

Thinking over the dates, it must have been a screening of The Two Towers at which Mr. McKellen made his impromptu appearance.

    Knowing these guys

    by greased deaf guy

they'll probably change the origins established in the other films. Wolverine will be an American industrialist who's powers are the result of an unfortunate accident. Or a cosmic shower during a trip to the space station he's bankrolled. And Magneto grew up during WWII...in Japan and his powers are a result of Hiroshima.

Maybe Ratner can get Chris Tucker

    by greased deaf guy

If he can't get him to do Rush Hour 3, maybe a bag of cash and a shiny Apocolypse suit would get him off his sofa. Of course they'd have to be a no Chan clause in the contract.

"Ya'll tremble befo' da might of Apocolypse. Do you understand da words dat are comin out my mouf?"

  • So I'm gonna bring it up one more time today. You've got four years worth of storylines out of the original Uncanny X-Men issues alone. Then after that, a huge cast overhaul, the introduction of Storm & Nightcrawler & Wolverine & Colossus, and the possibilty of six or more further seasons, plus a Law & Order type spin-off with the introduction of the adjectiveless X-Men "Blue Team". Until the ridiculousness of House of M and No More Mutants and whatever the fuck Marvel's thinking, that is. I need to own a television network.

How about the greatest movie director of all time, Joss Whedon. He can come in and polish this turd. He's done so much remarkable work over the years, like...um...give me a sec....

Strangely, yes, I do have a Smallville encounter. I stood in line behind Kristin Kreuk at the drugstore once. My only other random geek celeb moment was spotting John Rhys-Davies hailing a cab. That's two of the Fellowship. Two out of nine. I did also see Patrick Stewart and Bryan Singer but that was when my buddy got me a tour of the X2 set -- so they weren't random public spottings and I didn't count them earlier. None of the other stars were around -- except that Pyro guy, but I got to sit in the X-Jet.

    Just to be clear here...

    by johnhawks

Harry said, "Didn't say it was a TEASER TRAILER - but if you watch while it loads - up in the top right side it says, "Teaser Trailer" and that's just not true.
The corner says, "Teaser Site" and then you roll over it and it says, "FULL SITE COMING SOON"

As far as I know, NO ONE has say anything about a "Teaser Trailer". It's just a lil intro to the lil site.

Harry, I like you and your opinions a lot. If you're ever in Charlotte, NC, shoot me an email. I'll show you around and buy you a drink. :)

For my two cents though, I think we have another "Batman" on our hands. 1: good
    2: better
    3: WTF?
    4: Holy shit, kill me.

Hopefully, Shane Carruth (who will have made his "Memento" by then) won't have to step in and pretend the whole thing never happened.

X-Men 3 will be awful but so what?

    by blok narpin

We got good Batman and Fantastic Four movies this year. We got two good X-Men movies so far. We got two good Spider-Man movies. A good Daredevil movie, and next summer we get a great Superman movie. So X-Men 3 will suck. Who cares? Let it. Other then Hulk and Elektra we've been getting a lot of good stuff lately. Hopefully New writers and director will be hired for X-Men 4 and they can clean up Ratner's mess. Just buy the Batman Begins and Fantastic Four DVDs and let thier goodness calm you. And next summer when you walk out of X-Men 3 annoyed just remember that in a few weeks Superman will arrive and make those bad memories go away with his Super-good-movie-ness.

    by jig98

when ebert and roeper give thumbs down to a shit movie, they don't worry about the actors, writers and everyone who worked so hard on this would-be masterpiece, they care about the good people who spend their cold hard cash to see the movie. yes, we got good x-men, hulk, batman, daredevil, fantastic 4, stu-dent and spider man movies and yeah, i guess it's a little safe to say that x-men 3 will burn in hell and then we get a glorious superman movie over a month later, but that's something else.

    by yotaruvegeta

I have to admit that after watching the first X-men movie, it already looks dated to me, but I've sat through X2 probably 3 times and it doesn't disappoint. What will disappoint (ok, do I even have to finish this sentence?)

Well the Flash presentation is pretty good

    by doc_strange

I bet they put more time into producing the flash intro than with the trailer. This movie's DOA.
