A very gross pic from DOGMA, plus more Kevin Smith news

Published at:  Sep 22, 1998 12:18:17 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here. Here’s a pic from
Newsaskew from the set of DOGMA. What can I say.
I have been faithfully not reading the script to this
one, cause well, I wanted to keep it a secret from
myself. But with pics like this, it’s eroding my will
power. So I called up Tom Joad to ask him about the
film. I asked, “Is this a gore film?” and he said, “The
last five pages are some of the gorest scenes I have
ever read, it’s like beyond DEAD ALIVE gorey.”
Holy shit I say! Now, all I know about the film is that
there is a singing of the Fat Albert Song in a club by
two angels. There’s a Shit Monster. And there’s
super uber fucking cool gore. This is definately a
Christmas movie. I wanna see it this Christmas as a
double feature extravaganza with THE FACULTY!!!
Sigh... oh well. BEWARE the following picture will
repulse thee.

OK,
There's been a lot of bull shit around these parts for the last few weeks so
I
though I'd cleer up every thing to the best of my knowladge. This comes from
lots and lots of posts on the view askew WWWboard and Brad and Chris'
excellant News Askew.

DOGMA

The first cut clocked in at about 3:17. It has been viewed by Ben, John P
(of
Split Screen fame) and a few Max execs. They have all racted very positave
and
have given Kev a little insight on what to cut. Kev has stated that he wants
to get the flick down to about 2:20. His reasoning is that he wants it to
move
at a comfortable pace. Chances are it'll be around 2:30 or so. I don't think
he's under that much pressure from Mirimax edditing wise. He will soon begin
on the next cut (if he hasn't already).

Finially, on the subject of Dogma, here's something I have a feeling about.
Now, remember, this is pure speculation.
Kev posted a few months ago that Linda though his choice for G-d was
perfich.
Her exact quote was "It's someone you love". Hmmmmm. As you may or may not
know, Kev recently announced his engagement to USA today writer Jennifer S.
I repeat: Hmmmm. Kev hasn't commented on the subject in a while, though.

DVD

Chasing amy in November? No specs were given regarding extra features or
anything but Kev thinks the DVD of Amy will be out in November.
Mallrats will be out earil next year around the same time as the LD. Both
will
be special edditions.

BHD

This flick is nearing compleation. It's gonna' rock.

ABP/Autograph

Autograph is neering the end of the script stage. ABP is still out there
ready
to be picked up. I have said before that I highly recomend it. Check it out
at
various film festivals.

NEXT PROJECT

A possiable project between now and the time Dogma is relised? Kev said it's
a
posibility.
Kev shot a set of 4 footlocker commercials with the guy from Buffolo '66
earlier this week. That's the second time he's gone from someone else's
script
(the first was the Diet Coke spots from last year).

TOUR

All aboad the view askew reality tour, your tour guid? The one and only
Jason
Mews. more news comming soon.

FLETCH

Cancled? Kev hasn't commented in quite a wile. That's lead to speclulation
that the project is DOA.

That's all the 'skews that's fit to print.

    Eeeuuucchhhh!!

    by taxman

If this pic is anything to go by, surely this movie will be unable to gain an R rating, and get the dreaded NC-17 rating. Having said that, I can't see why its so dreaded.

    You are wrong Harry

    by k-dog

About the Fat Albert Song.. It is sung in Dogma by Jay and Silent Bob, and NOT two angels..

Also the ending is not a gorefest.. Violent sure, but not a gorefest.

    Fat Albert Song

    by superfly

I haven't read the script, but aren't Jay and Silent Bob the two angels to begin with? So, then when the Fat Albert song is sung, it is two angels that sing it, correct?

    angels?

    by knuckleball

Nope. Jay and Silent Bob are actually prophets. Affleck & damon play angels.

    So what's the big deal?

    by viking

Yeesh...the way you set up the photo, I was expecting a cracked chest, entrails flopping on the floor and a heart dangling from a rib. If this photo is any indication of the "gore" in Dogma, I wouldn't worry. I've seen worse things in ROBOCOP and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. If anything, this fellow looks like an escapee from a Toxic Avenger movie.

    The truth behind Dogma

    by evil dead

A little clarification is in need here. MINOR SPOILER AHEAD> The Fat Albert song is sung by Jay and Silent Bob. That part is true. They are not the angels but two "wise men" that accompany Linda Fiorentino on here trip. The two angels are played by Damon and Affleck. SOMEWHAT MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD> The whole gorefest ending thing is somewhat an opinion based matter. It all deepens on the strength of your beliefs in Christianity, I think. You see, The good guys (Chris Rock, Jay, Silent Bob, Linda Fiorentino) square off against The angels in front of a church. Now, I read the script but, I don't know how gory the final product will be. The violent highlights include an uzi shredding some vital appendages(I won't say which, since in gives away the surprise), a person having the heart and innards explode in their bodies, amongst other violent bits. The whole shocking bit lies in the fact that if your christian you may or may not find the idea of mortals fighting a couple of angels to the death in front of a church, sacriligious. God, I can't wait to see this!!!!!

    No Fletch?

    by nicholas courtenay

    No Fletch?

According to the Fletch DVD released this month Chevy Chase has finished Fletch 3. I was expecting to see it released as soon as there was a slot free?

Can somebody please please please set me straight on Fletch 3 as Chevy Chase was at his best in the two previous films.

I am not that bothered if Kevin Smith hasn't handled Fletch 3...

    Hey, Kevin's gonna be at...

    by phishtar

The Words and Pictures Museum in Northampton, MA on October 17, signing his new issues of the Daredevil comic book (how the hell does he find time to do all this stuff?). Might be able to grill him then...and the Museum rocks, anyway. Only $3 for adults, and you can play the pinball machine for free (though it was broken last weekend...bummer...)
And right now they've got some of the "Daredevil" comic on exhibit, so you can see it before any one else.
More info can be found at the site: www.wordsandpictures.org as I recall...

Just to let you know, the kid in the photo is named Barrett. he plays one of the Stygian triplets in the film...Sort of "living dead" gang members.

They have no lines, but I talked to him a lot when they filmed at the dormont cafe..Good kid.

    My .02

    by glitter berry

    *MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS*
They (Jay & Bob, Fiorentino, Rock) don't really face off with anyone in the script I read. Damon dies because Affleck kills him, and then God (*cough*Alanis...c'mon, we all know*cough*) makes him explode after ultimatly forgiving him.
    *MAJOR MAJOR SPOILER FINISHED*

    *MINOR SPOILERS*
The pic is pretty nasty (even though I saw it three days ago...) considering that I wasn't expecting anything like that from the Stygian Triplets...and if I wasn't expecting that from them, then what's to say what the ending (in which there are supposed to be dead people everywhere) will be like? DOn't knock it 'till you've tried it folks.
    *MINOR SPOILERS ENDED*

I think it'll be completely awesome, even though the two really fine guys meet fates you'd rather them not to, but with the amazing cast and the fantabulous script, and even looking aside from the October 1999 (yes, that IS a year from now...check out News Askew if you don't believe me) release date, I'm sure it won't miss. (Although I doubt it'll be very popular in the Box Office, given the contraversial subject matter, and the probable NC-17 rating, even though it will probably deserve to beat Titanic...damn ship movie!)

    Re:Dogma....and a year...

    by jsamson

I think I'm gonna die waiting for this film to come out. There's gotta be a quicker way! Damn Miramax, wanting to show it at Cannes! Us Smith fans want to see it now!
The script rocka, it's probably one of the funniest things I've ever read. I didn't read the ending (I figured I had spoiled enough of the movie, so I stopped before any big revelations were made) so I don't know about gore, but....Dogma looks to be a great film.
As for the Christians bitching...what a buncha idiots. I'm a christian, and believe in all the teachings of the bible. But Smith is just out to make a damn good movie. Kevin himself is a Catholic, not used to be, IS, and it seems that many people can't understand humor that just pokes fun at religion in a manner that means no offense (Look at what happened over Life of Brian...). As for the NC-17 rating..I'm hoping not. It's hard enough for me to sneak into R movies...NC-17'll be impossible. And there's no way I'd survive a day without seeing this if it was already out.
C'mon,Miramax, don't make us wait till next October! I'll have watched my Chasing Amy, Clerks, and Mallrats tapes into nonexistence by then...hurry the release date!!!!

Read NewsAskew for all Dogma info

    by aug

NewsAskew (linked in the piece above) has a section called Dogma Rumour Control. This has updates from Kevin Smith himself. This is the most accurate site with info on Dogma. Sorry to say but most of the info that has been on AICN is wrong...

    Oh puh-lease, get a life...

    by amot j gideon

Truly I cannot wait until this
film is being projected in front
of me, so it is with great
joy that I read even just the
    slightest bit of news regarding
it, and I thank Ain't It Cool
News for posting this message and
La bink for writing it. I do
    however feel it behooves me
to suggest that those who felt it
    oh-so-very necessary to rip apart
Mr. bink for his occasional lack
    of proper spelling to please
make an investment into a life.
They are not that expensive, and
even the cheapest one will keep
people from refering to you as
    "those assholes who have nothing
better to do than insult helpful
people who were a bit too busy
to run their work through a spell-
checker", as do they do so now.

    Often.
