Ed Zwick gets Jennifer Connelly for THE BLOOD DIAMOND!!

Published at:  Oct 12, 2005 8:07:34 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an update on the Ed Zwick directed dramatic thriller thingy THE BLOOD DIAMOND. Jennifer Connelly will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the flick directed by the dude who made THE LAST SAMURAI and who almost made Ehren Kruger's shitty adaptation of Stephen King's THE TALISMAN (bullet dodged).

The story has a poor African farmer who gets caught up with a Yankee diamond smuggler (DiCaprio). Of course the mining industry doesn't care for the DiCaprio character and chaos ensues. Is Connelly the "poor African farmer?" I don't think "poor African farmer" when I look at Connelly, so I'll go out on a limb and say she's playing someone else. Heh.

She could be a poor African farmer.

Lots of white Africans in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Also, Rupee88 is right.

That's the best example of them. But anyway, sounds like a good cast and good director.

The Hot Spot is an amazing film. Virginia Madsen is so hot in that film too. God bless Dennis Hopper!

Jennifer Connelly needs to lighten up.

    by coen_fan

Seriously, I think she could do comedy well. It'd give her a break from all the serious (and good, at least most of them) movies she's known for.

also, Jennifer... "Career Opportunities 2: 'Jimget's His Groove Back" you know it to be true. you long for rollerskates and a wifebeater and the sounds of Betty Boo's "Where Are You, Baby?" once again. and I long for you to ride a coin-op horse.

Any Connelly news is good news. She could star in "Deuce Bigelow 5: Seriously, I don't look like it but I'm a freakin' gigolo!" as the hotel receptionist and this would be good news. I hope "The Blood Diamond" is good movie, though.

    Connelly as the villain

    by koola_norway

I would love to see a film with Jennifer Connelly as the villain. And love for her femme fatale villain character to do away with dicaprios character early in the film. Maybe this one is it.

Connelly hasn't looked really healthy since Dark City, and that was going on ten years ago. Another gorgeous young actress reduced to a sickly, gaunt shadow of her former self. ::sigh::

East Village. She and Bettany live in a place on Hudson St. (used to see them all the time too, when I worked down there).

    Beh...

    by ribbons

...hey, I like Jennifer Connelly, but I'm not sure I like the idea for this movie. Sounds like this is going to be another one of those romances where the backdrop is an embattled African nation (see also: 'The Interpreter' (sort of) and 'The Constant Gardener'). If you're going to make a movie about that sort of thing, you should honestly take the frakin' romance out of the equation; cheapens it, if you ask me. Or maybe I'm off-base. I don't know.

    Man She Is So Beautiful

    by skoobyx

Its not even a sex thing -- you just like looking at her. The best thing about The House of Sand and Fog was that the director knew enough to do a lot of long closeups of her. I kept feeling like I was staring even though staring is what you do with a movie.
