Logan, Ororo, Xavier and Magneto show their faces in public!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another like over to those good ol' boys up North at the HollywoodNorthReport who seem to have called in the Canadian army, equiped them with digital cameras and telephoto lenses and sent them out into the wilds in order to snap as many pics from the filming of X3 as they can. We've had Kitty Pryde, Bobby Drake and Wolvie before, now we have a bigger group. Nothing incredibly groundbreaking about these pics, but it's the team assembled again... for good or ill...

Brett Ratner is a hack with no directing style. Oh well, at least we have Superman Returns to fall back on next summer. Good pics though, Kudo to the papparazzi for getting such nice shots.
-
am I really first????
-
I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but I actually have more faith just now in an X-Men film directed by Brett Ratner than I do in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns.
-
I hate to rehash yet another common theme here at AICN, but for what it's worth, it's simply not worth dorking out over those photos. Whereas we've all been over (and over and over) the well worn complaints about X3, aside from the director and the literal overkill casting, my sole remaining hope for the film is the script and dialogue is still from the same team. That's far as my "optimism" takes me.
-
I want this movie to be good. But, then again, I also want anything owned by Rupert Murdoch's pro-fascist news outlet to utterly fail! X-Men is an allegory about people who don't fit in fighting back against having their potential squashed by fear and prejudice. Rupert Murdoch's media machine is devoted to squashing progressive voices through that very means. The idea of him profitting off this story any more disgusts me. Aw fuck it, this movie is being directed by Ratner! He's not a horrible director but, at best, his skills only peak when he's immitating another, better filmaker (a la Jonathan Demme). In that senses, this film deserves to fail. May the X-MEN all get their asses kicked when SUPERMAN RETURNS!!!
-
All Ratner does is direct this thing and has nothing much to do with the script.I dont really think the X-Men movies are dead, and even if this movie sucks just remember theres terrable issues of the X-Men comics out there. If FOX was smart they'd kiss Bryans ass and give him a shot at X4,if that happens.
-
...get over your Brian Singer worship, he made 2 mediocre X-Men flicks that were not bad, but hardly warrant the type of sucking-off that you fanboys honor them with. I can't say Ratner's going to do better, but the fact that Singer is off these films pleases me for one. I think he'll do a better job with Superman for the one reason that it's a tale about 1 man and the people around him. Singer tries to focus on too many characters in X-Men and while I know X-Men is about a team, it's a difficult thing for any director to do. I guess Singer did a good job considering the scale, but I still wont say that I was blown away by the X-films. -Az
-
I think it will do quite well. Harry seems to know something about it that the rest of us don''t. I'haven'nt heard anything bad and I think casting has been spot on.
-
From some the stuff leaked (on OTHER sites), the pictures of Angel's stunt double, Wolverine in the woods and now this all add to the anticipation - I actually cannot wait for this. As for Ratner, he has form with the schlock-action pic, and Red Dragon was pretty good - I don't care that he seems your typical 'whoah, rad, dude' kind of wanker, that counts for little if anything. I have warned to the story that Quint (or was it the other guy?) revealed, in part, a couple of months ago (which must surely be the main focus of this film, what the recent casting and 'Worthington labs' pics and so on). I say - bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Apparently, the costumes for Venom and Hobgoblin 'look terrible'. Ah - who's to say that this scooper has seen anything? They claim to have seen designs. Well, for a movie that does not come out until May 2007, these designs are more than likely drafts. I honestly doubt whether Venom would be 'purple'. If not black, then maybe a dark blue - which this supposed 'purple tint' may very well look like against a green screen or on film.
-
That helmet is ridiculous....and why keep Storm?
-
It's nice to know that the X-Men, like 13 year olds everywhere, think a K-Mart parking lot is the best place to hook up with your friends.

have never loved Brett Ratner, I enjoy his films but it's not as if he is an amazing director. That being said, however, I think he will knock this one outta the park. I grew up on those sat morning X-men cartoons, for the most part they kicked ass, and seriously, I think that brett is perfectly suited to bring us that kind of X-men, a little bit of heart (emotion) but mostly cool looking mutants beating the living shit out of each other. THIS WILL ROCK HARD CORE...trust me!

Now she'd polish Magneto's helmet just for a part in a half-decent movie.

this movie is still coming out? what?
-
...about Berry demanding a bigger role. What she wanted was a bigger roll, which they gave her by pairing her character romantically with Wolverine (in the hope that, what? some fanboy love would rub off on her?). The pictures look fine and some of the set pieces I've heard we'll get to see in this film sound promising. But those character deaths that were leaked just stink of lazy writing. I really want to be wrong about that, but given the timeline for development, I doubt I am. Oh, and for the folks slamming Singer so far in this talkback, all of your posts reek of latent homophobia. The reason people remain wary about this third film is that the man did what no one thought he (or anyone else) would be able to: He brought the X-Men to the big screen in a way that didn't suck and wasn't "gay" (at least not any more than any other superhero movie ever made). He's a solid director with a particular knack for team dynamics (how is it possible that you people haven't seen or don't remember The Usual Suspects?). Stop being so insecure about your own masculinity. It's okay to like Singer's directorial work (although I hear he's a bit of an ass to work with). It don't make you queer or nuthin'.
-
Why can't gay people think about anything else than being gay or gay things? You'd think it was the only aspect of their being. If that's the case, B-O-R-I-N-G.

I'm happy Singer isn't Directing. X2 was pretty fucking
by TheGinger Twit
a symptom I find in so many sequels pushed out by the top director who made the first. You could jsut tell that X2 was one of those scripts where they concetrated on making the start good, and the end good, a couple cool sequences - but ultimately didn't give a shit what filled the majority of the film. I say more power to the film with a new director.
-
...Storm's hair being slightly shorter than it was in 'X2' is not going to make this a bad film, guys. I'm a little confused myself as to why they're meeting in a parking lot, but for all we know the actual filming location for this scene is irrelevant.
-
Far as I can tell, the X-Men accidently ran into Magneto in the parking lot of the local Starbucks and Professor X is pissed cause "Maggi" didn't call the next day like he swore he would.
-
Because that would be sweet, Topher as Hobgoblin and Church as Venom. On-Topic, I don't think Singer had much of a "feel" for X-Men so losing him as director isn't that big a deal, I think Ratner is acceptable. Still prefer X-Men to any other Super-Hero movie, over Superman (yawn) and Spider-Man (so far, so cornball. Kill Aunt May!)
-
but do Xavier, Scott, and Mystique still die? That is the question.
-
God damn this conversation is inane. -Az

Azlam Orlandu - What don't you like about Singer's work
by Russman
The first movie was very well done considering they didn't have the right budget and that they were pressed for time. And the second one IMHO (as an non-comic book reader) was one of the best superhero movies ever made. Sure I can nitpick but both movies made me forget that I paid $10 to see them, because I enjoyed them that much. I'm curious about what you didn't like and why.
-
I agee with you about X-Men being "paint-by-numbers" but you should really give X2 a shot, i thought it was a very mature, open, sprawling movie and i loved it.

X-men would work better as a tv show, with a Wolvie trilogy on t
by Shermdawg
Let the show run for six seasons, and then do a Age of Apocalypse trilogy to top it off. This is my favorite franchise of all time, and I'll be the first to admitt that films were not the way to go. Way too many characters to setup. And the way they handled Cyclops in the flicks sickens me. Hell, just about every freakin major storyline in the comics revolved around him in some way. Killing him off is bullshit, even if it the James Marsden version. This franchise could have been right up there with Star Wars, and Star Trek, but Fox fucked up, just like they have with every other sci-fi property they've owned. Aliens, dead. Predator, dead. Aliens vs. Predator, dead. Planet of the Apes, dead. X-files, barely clinging to life. Firefly, well we know what happened there. *sigh*
-

-
Like him or not, find him boring or not, Cyclops is the backbone, heart, and soul of the X-Men. Not to mention the fact that he was the very first one. I keep hearing that rumors of his upcoming death have been greatly exaggerated, I for one sure hope so. You can't have a Dark Phoenix Saga without Cyclops. He is there to remind Jean of her humanity and to inspire her to help fight the Phoenix Force inside here. Killing him off in the first five minutes or whatever will remove everything that makes this story more than just "good guys vs. super powerful bad guy."

by IAmJack'sUserID
Write some new stories for him and even let Tarantino direct one. I don't usually say that either because it's so common to hear people say, "Tarantino should direct this or that or every movie ever from now on". But I bet he could do a mean ass western as long as he does it straight and refrains from revisionism of the genre and/or too much self-awareness.

Much as I hate to hear people say Tarantino should direct...
by Childe Roland
...this or that or every movie from now on, I actually think I agree with Jack about Quentin having the potential to do a western well (with the well pointed out caveats about revisionism and self awareness). I was also intrigued by the notion that he might try his hand at a Friday the 13th movie. Formulaic stuff like this, I think, is where his ability to freshen up characters through dialogue could really take a so-so movie idea and elevate it above what it would otherwise be (like he did with City on Fire for Reservoir Dogs). Assuming he's on his game, of course, which is a dangerous thing to do with QT since Pulp Fiction. As for Jackman in a cowboy hat, some folks hjave suggested him for the role of Roland in a Dark Tower adaptation. I didn't like the idea at first, but I'm warming to it. They would just need to let someone other than King rewrite the story so the last three books don't suck.
-
1. the writing must be genius, landing the final draft within record time. 2. they must have taken the time to choose the perfect director for a film like this. 3. due to the rushed production schedule, any effects studio would have the time to complete film quality effects considering preproduction and postproduction processes.... not to mention rendering. 4. DEH!

Just read IGN's interview with screenwriter Simon Kinberg...
by Shermdawg
in which he reveals Gambit WILL NOT APPEAR!!! That's the first good news I've heard on this film. Now if they would just fire Halle Berry and let Gina Torres (Serenity) take over as Storm...
-
in about ten years or so, she's too young for the role right now. Storm is kinda a motherly figure to the younger X-men, and given Miss Dawson's age, she wouldn't fit the part.
-

Oh, and another thing interesting about the IGN interview...
by Shermdawg
Mr.Kinberg mentioned that Fox was planning a Wolverine spinoff and more X-men flicks. What he did not mention, however, was the Magneto origin flick. I wonder how that's coming along.
-
Am I the only person that sees that?
-
What did Bryan Singer do to indicate he could direct X-Men? For that matter, what did Peter Jackson do to indicate he could do LOTR? I think more people should be concerned with the script than the director.

The first two X-men movies didn't really do much for me....
by Mace13
I didn't really find the movies all that great like a lot of you other guy's have. I thought the plots were very subpar. Magneto inventing a machine that turns normal humans into mutants? Pretty crappy idea. And I didn't like how he was willing to sacrifice Rogue or any other mutant who got in his way to achieve his goal. That's just not the Magneto from the comics. He'll kill any normal human without a second thought, yeah. But as far as killing mutants, Hell no!! He's totally against it. He totally believes in Homo-superior. He's not about to start killing off members of his own race for stupid reasons like they had in the movies. I also felt that there were a lot of parts in both movies where they really missed the boat on having different characters step up to the plate so to speak. like why the hell didn't Bobby(Iceman)Drake freez the freaking water in X2 instead of letting Jean do what she did. I know she supposedly didn't let them use their powers after they were on the plane but c'mon. He had plenty of time to act before that.If you have whatever kinda power and something like that happens in which you could use your power to save everyone you know damn well you would. It'd come as a natural reflex. What the hell kinda training has Prof X been having them do in the danger room this whole time then? I gotta give Singer credit for some of the casting. A few actors were great choices but i'm not gonna say that about all of them. I think it's about 50/50 on the great casting and "What the hell was he thinking?!?" meter. Sure i'll go see X3 when it comes out. There's no point in lying and say I won't. I am a movie buff so i'm still gonna go see movies that have me interested whether I think i'll like them or not.I just feel there was a lot of missed oppurtunity with these movies so far. Which is real shame. But oh well. That's my opinion only.
-
...This movie will have giant robot SENTINALS. That's the only way it can be redeemed.
-
Back when JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS was released, Dawson, Rachel Leigh Cook & Tara Reid hit all the talk shows. Dawson showed real personality and brains, while the other 2 just sat there like lumps. (And under those baggy clothes she always wears, she's got curves that don't quit.)

That Mickey Spillane thing he was doing, "When you've seen the things that I've seen and done the things that I've done..." or whatever it was.

Talking about Lord of the Rings, it's why it shouldn't have been nominated more than once for an Oscar (it was made all at once, and then cut into thirds, essentially a nine hour movie). I disagree with you on Batman though. I watch those movies and enjoy them, but as a comic fan I know that it's not really Batman (it's part of the joy of Batman Begins). From what I've heard, Topher Grace is going to be Venom and Church is going to be Sandman. I'm more interested in that than X-3, but that's more because of the writing cock ups than Brett Ratner.
-
I'm pretty sure Iceman's powers don't work like ice-nine. i.e., he can't just freeze an infinite amount of water... he might have been able to freeze the water immediately around the jet (and indeed, this would've been a cool FX touch), but that huge wave coming from the dam? He's not nearly that powerful.

Hugh Jackman would be perfect for a western. Please, oh PLEASE, Jackman would be perfect for the roll of Roland Deschain in a gritty, true to the books, HBO series of Stephen King

Since the film has a more realistic look than the comics, I'd imagine they'd go for somekind of human operated mech thingys than giant purple robots. Now in a Days of Futures Past storyline, anythings possible. Oh, and by the way, is anyone ticked that they once again fail to include Rogues outfit from the Jim Lee/cartoon era in X-Men Legends II? Bastards.

as long as we're fantasy casting, I'll say it again
by oisin5199
Gina Torres would have been perfect for Storm, not the annoying Ultimates version that Halle seems to be playing, but the old school majestic African Goddess she originally was. Can't you imagine Gina with the headress and cape, the long flowing white hair, the commanding voice. Recast now!
-
And they misspelled "McKellen".
-
Amen brother, Gina would rule.
-
Lemme guess. You just saw Serenity? C'mon. She's okay but...no thanks. I still think that Angela Bassett ten years ago would've been great. But my dream storm would have to be Iman in her heyday. Think of her from Star Trek VI,,,mmmmhmmmm...Iman, baby! Seriously, though. In today's world? I'd stick with an unknown. I also got a kick out of the come and go accent halle carried in the first movie, and then completely bagged it in X2. Idiot. Best Actress my ass!
-
If they kill him, it will be the latest gross misunderstanding of the comic book universe. I can appreciate taking liberties with storylines, but he's the lynchpin of the team in the comics and it would be lame if they offed him. Here's hoping it's a rumor...even though they've made him a total puss jackass in the movies to begin with. Maybe he could just get zapped with a "lose the skirt" lazer beam and turn into a fearless leader. That would be cool.
-
I'm guessing he's a mutant in the flick (which I'll let slide), but if he doesn't have the helmet I'll be pissed. Oh, when was the teaser supposed to hit? In December?
-
Its done.
-
Yup saw Serenity, and before that Angel (where she played "serene goddess" Jasmine), Matrix 2 and 3 before that, Firefly before that, Alias before that .... hell even M.A.N.T.I.S. ! Torres has a great deal going for her to portray Storm. the height, the exaggerated exotic features, the commanding presence, the voice. She's got the goods and is a way better match than Halle. Sure if I could travel thru time or convince them to cast older, it would be Angela Bassett in a heartbeat. If I were casting for still photography of Ororo, I might cast Iman several years ago. But given constraints on casting for a particular age group. Torres leads the pack.
