Y'all know me, know how I earn a livin'. Quint here with a little update on that remake of THE EYE being done by Hideo Nakata (RING TWO, RINGU, etc). It seems that Renee Zellweger has been cast in the lead, marking her first horror movie since the classic masterpiece TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION (sense a little sarcasm there?).

I must admit that the Pang Bros. original EYE film didn't really impress me much. It has some great imagry, a couple really intense scenes (elevator scene in particular) and a really nice set-up, but I didn't think the movie ever really takes off and grabs the audience by the short hairs. So, I'm not all up in arms about an English language remake, however it is a little disconcerting how badly Nakata's RING TWO failed.

I don't think the casting of Zellweger is a bad movie... I'm more worried about Nakata's work. There is a potential to really do a kick-ass remake that succeeds where the original failed... But I would venture a suggestion to the filmmakers... Keep it out of Japan. Keep the already overused J-Horror imagry out of the movie and do something fresh with it, eh? What do you folks think?
