SUPERMAN - What to do with the new film and the old
Superman has tons and tons of fans, me included. I've grown up with the character, I've believed a man could fly and I've watched in horror as Superman fought Mr Press-on Fingernails. Below is the latest from MegaDeath DC, the fan that has been running a campaign for 2 years now to fight for better treatment of our beloved character. Also, below is a piece of an interview with Richard Donner, where he talks about wanting to direct the New Film. I'd love that, but I'd give him this advice. For me, SUPERMAN came very close to being a great film, if only the villians had been treated with an amount of seriousness. Otis, Miss Tess Mocker and a wig wearing Lex... for me they detracted. Anyway, here's the report...
Hey Harry before the interview let me bring you and everyone upto speed with
the Superman restoration campaign.
2 years ago, a group of people from the newsgroups began to campaign for
Superman The Movie to be re-mastered just like the Star Wars SEs but no new
CGI scenes. Also insert if not all some of the vital extra scenes back into
the film. In April 97 my Superman: The Cinema Experience website which is the
only site that tells you everything about the Superman movies espeically 1 and
2 including the missing scenes from 2( http://members.aol.com/dsupermanc ) was
born and I joined in the campaign. Soon, many people joined in sending letters
to WB, we kept sending letters and still do until this day. Also we wanted WB
to re-master the soundtrack and release that too. Superman was part of the WB
75th Festival but only in some cities, so our campaign worked to a certain
extent. The release was a major disappointment because the new print was very
poor and only some people got to see it. Our campaign is about Film
Preservation, so many classic movies have benefitted from this and Superman
does deserve the same so a new generation can enjoy this movie which many
people worked so hard to produce. WB have shown that they have no interest in
digitally remastering Superman and the extra footage, they rather let the
negatives rot away and this also includes John Williams music tapes. Even if
we get the theatrical release I would be happy like so many others. Yes
Superman isn't big as Star Wars but I can promise you that box-office takings
would be bigger than the big movies which WB have offered.
Now here is what Richard Donner said in Barcelona about Superman during his
LW4 promotion :
BARCELONA--"If someone should make a new Superman movie, it should be
me", says director-veteran Richard Donner, who made the original 20
years ago. Warner Bros. had spent two years and reportedly 20 million
dollars on a film that never was gonna happen. This summer, "Superman
Lives" should have - and could have - been the perfect opportunity to
relaunch the series - and to celebrate the character's 60th Anniversary
as a comics hero. Change of directors and disagreements about the script
was some of the problems with the unfinished project. According to Mr.
Donner "the pre-production now is closed, although the studio is still
at work with a script," he says. "I am disappointed in Warner, that they
did not ask me to do the movie. If I did it, it would have been done!
They did a big mistake not asking me," Donner claims in a freespeaking
manner, as he is in Europe to promote the same studio's new installment
in the "Lethal Weapon" franchise. "I'm fond of Superman," the
68-year-old director says and puffs on his big Havana cigar, "if I can
make the fifth film in the series, it will not just be a 'Superman 5'.
It will be SUPERMAN! with a new, and very 90's approach, but very honest
in respect to the original." Donner seems sad about the whole issue. Not
just because he wants to do the movie himself, but also on behalf of his
close friend Christopher Reeve - and perhaps a legion of devoted fans.
They have, since the release of "Superman: The Movie" in 1978, praised
Donner's vision. A campaign amongst the fans to get Warner to re-release the
movie in theaters didn't succeed. But now Donner says he will try to
convince the studio. At least the movie should appear in a new, restored
director's cut on home video. Donner just made director's cuts of the
first three "Lethal Weapon"s, and says he loved the experience. Donner
says, "Christopher Reeve called me up just before I left for Europe. He
said we should go to Warner and get "Superman" out there again. Everyone
else is doing re-releases, so why don't we? We can add some good scenes
we left out due to time constraints. There's a lot of good material there."

For christs sake, what are Warners playing at? Superman is part of modern day mythology. Warner Bros owe us both a Superman: Special Edition and a new movie after the appalling Lois and Clark series. To my mind if Donner is interested in returning to direct a new Superman then Warner Bros should be doing all they can to get the thing off and running.
-
Jesus, if Warner Brothers can't get something with as much potential as a new Superman movie off the ground, what chance do they have of creating a truly ground-breaking and successful *original* movie????
That place is run by fucking idiots! -
Whatever you may think of Donner
of all the people I've heard about he seems to be and is the only one who actually understands Superman
and loves him. I wish for him to take the realms of the new Superman movie and nobody else.
Not jerk Tim Burton not idiot Kevin Smith...but Donner.
The first Superman movie was
the best comic book movie ever
(I don't care much for Raiders of the Lost Ark, that goes down in my book as one of those films that should be re-made and was not as good as it could have been).
I wouldn't have minded seeing
Superman back on the big screen
with the restored footage and all.
Yes, WB if you have any balls or any bloody sense left in your brain, re-release Superman!
Restore the negative, give it
a new print, re-release the
John Williams soundtrack,
restore the old footage and
show us once again that yes,
we can believe a man can fly!
-
The Raiders of the Lost Ark is the greatest comic-book adventure movie, it was perfect! Superman: THe Movie was pretty damn boring, but I would like to see it remastered, and replace those cheesy FX shots with groovy new ILM work. The Burton idea was interesting...but now that you mention it Donnor would do a good job probably (loved Maverick and Conspiracy Theory).
-
Number 1: Raiders of the lost arc was a movie before a comic book. It was created by Steven Spielburg and George Lucas. it was directed by Spielburg and produced and co written by Lucas. Anyone who thinks that Indy was floating around before the movie is a complete idiot.
Secondly: Super man the movie was totally based on the comic book. The reason the movie is corny is because the original comic book was corny. You had the guy saying things like "Ill save you."
Another thing you people who seem to think that superman is an icon the Us are also idiots because superman was created in Canada by Canadians. Does Joe Shuster ring a bell? And im sorry, but using Chrits again would be the greates disrespect and disshonor to him. The mans body isn't just having the problenm, his breathing is ability to speak and his ability move more tha 20 degrees in any direction is impossable.
Cutting and pasting is just not viable with todays cg effects. its would look like Spawns special effects which look mainly experimental.
Any question? Go ahead ask, bitch, complain. I dare you. -
THEY SHOULD BRING HIM BACK LIKE THIS.
it starts off with superman and doomsday battling each other to the death. superman is then dead buried and the 4 new supermen come in his place.
SUPERMAN-the eradicator
SUPERMAN-CYBORG
STEEL
SUPERBOY
all trying to replace the big s
then just follow the return of superman story and you got one hell of a movie
-
Being somebody that has a rather ratty copy of Superman: The Movie on laserdisc I'd appreciate some kind of restoration effort by Warner on behalf of Superman. WB has to hurry though, for the only reason Lucas was able to do the Special Edition was that he kept everything (print, garbage mattes, et al.) in good condition. After getting the first Batman movie on DVD I can see how Warners hasn't kept their old films in good condition. If a restoration effort is to be led for Superman, it had better start now.
-
If Richard Donner will convince WB executives about directing Superman Lives, then why doesn't he convince them to take their heads out of their asses and go with Kevin Smith's script! Kevin Smith is one of the very few people who understands comics, since he's really into them. He may direct mainly low budget, yet superb films, but he still has a vision!
-
fly me to the moon...and let me sing among the stars, let me know what spring is like on Jupitor.bombombombom, fill my heart with joy and let me sing here awiile.
-
Of course Richard Donner wants to do Superman. (again) Any one-note hack will studiously protect his pitch. I'm simply amazed that any
serious fan of the character would
a) want to see the Rickster ruin a perfectly good potential franchise
a second time, or b) Have any real problems with a fairly talented comic book fan like Kevin
Smith writing this film. C'mon
people, Tim Burton managed to singlehandedly ruin Batman for a generation of moviegoers. Yeah yeah, I know... We all bought into the hype in '89. But have you tried to sit thru Tim's Batfilms again recently? I have, and I can tell you it's four hours I will never get back... I am simply amazed at what people claim is good comic book styled filmmaking. Try: Darkman, Big Trouble In Little China, Army Of Darkness, The Crow & (recently) Blade for a bit of a wake up call.
Let Rick-o Lethal Weapon himself to high heaven & leave Superman to someone who can do him justice.

Hey Sithlord...it's LOIS you god damn idiot!!!!!!! Not "Louise"!!! Learn how to spell before you get out the eighth grade, moron!!!
-
If you think Kevin Smith can't right comics or superheroes you need to check out Daredevil #1. I realize your ridiculous comments probably preceded this awesome piece of writing so I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I can't stand people that criticize other peoples work. At least he got off his Ass and tried to put a story together.
-
It seems that comic book movies start off fresh and great, but fade quickly (with the exception of SPAWN, which I thought was completely terrible). I'm a big fan of SUPERMAN, SUPERMAN II and BATMAN. I enjoyed how the original SUPERMAN started off being a serious melodrama that shifted into high gear with action and laughs as soon as Clark Kent lands in Metropolis. The chemistry between Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder is supreme. Hell, even the effects were a hell of a lot better than the ones we were forced to watch in SUPERMAN IV. I'm a big fan of restoration, but not necessarily "updating". I'd like to see them clean up and restore the picture and sound, but keep the f/x the way they are. If possible, add in the extra footage that was available only on TV up to now and release it to the theatres, followed by a video and DVD release. I agree Warner Brothers are not the same as they were before, but thank god they ain't MGM, who can't buy a hit, or a decent movie. I don't think Richard Donner is as bad as some people make him out to be (granted, I haven't or will I see CONSPIRACY THEORY, but everybody makes bad movies...LOST WORLD, anyone?) and I'd be pleased to see him direct the new feature--SANS NICHOLAS CAGE!!!!!!!!!!!! Get an actor, not a receding hair-line, please! And of course, a cameo by Christopher Reeves is A MUST.

re: Supes born in Canada
Dude! Fuck you! The Man of Steel was born in Cleveland, not Canada! He's a Yankee, not a fucking kanuck! -
Christoper Reeve was a great actor, and hopefully one day a cure can be found to give him and the millions like him a lot of their life back, but face the facts people, he's a paraplegic now, he aint going to be playing superman, can you imagine how much that would cost in FX even if it was possible and didn't look rediculous? I hope that somehow he can make a cameo in the new flick if it gets made, but there is no way known that Chris Reeve will be able to star as Supes again any time soon, and thats just the way things are. And anyone that thinks any different is just kidding themselves...As for Donner directing again, personally I hope to hell not, sure he has stated his intention of updating and making Superman more '90's, but so did Schumacher, who everyone was heralding as sounding like he knew what he was doing before his attrocities that were the last two Batman flicks came to light. Donner is a backwards step if you ask me. And as for Kevin Smith I thought the script needed a lot of work, and by the way, just because someone has a real love and knowledge of comics doesn't make them instantly a great script writer of comic to film adaptions, otherwise half the people here would be perfect candidates for the project. I think it's a case of taking the time to find and hire the best possible people for the job, no matter who they are or what their background, and then making a great film...but hell, I'm just an optomist I guess...
-
For the record, and if they could
get the rights, Mr. Reeve could very
well do a cameo for "Superman: Man In Tights"
(sory, couldn't resist). In (barf) STEEL,
he was written in to make a cameo as (can't remember his name 'cuz I'm not as big a comix freak as I used ta be)
the head doctor from STAR Labs. But the studio said nooooooooo, and what could have been a touching "passing of the torch" moment to
please the fans and brighten up an otherwise
interminable movie lost forever thanks to the "studio line." Warner Brothers...sucks. -
Ireland calling!!!
I don't know whether or not this is the case in U.S., but whenever R.T.E. (our national T.V. station) shows Superman 1 or Superman 2, they are the extended versions. In the case of Superman 1, the T.V. version is more than 20 minutes longer than the cinema version I remember from childhood.
I my opinion it is a better movie.
When Warner Brothers released Superman in widescreen on video, I thought "Cool!! At last I can see the full version in widescreen". What a naive fool I was.
This, I think, is the version that SHOULD be re-released in cinemas. If W.B. are worried about a market for it, the outpouring of support for Christopher Reeve from the public should show them exactly how many people (young and old) still adore the Caped Wonder.
If the extended versions of the first two Superman movies are available, could someone please post a notice. I have checked in the U.K. and was greeted with Dan Quayle like stares from shop assistants.

Get Eastwood to direct it. Man that guy gets on a project and he just DOES it. He knows his stuff,
I agree he needs to put more energy into his films.
Get Eastwood as director, an actor that we know but isn't in the 20 million dollar club, yeah an actor not a personality. Nic Cage is too caught up on finding new slants on things. "I know I'll make Superman talk like Elvis."
Also, is there any possibilty you people can show an opinion without
cutting each other down and spouting mindless insults?
You're really making a good idea like "Talkback" a joke. -
Clint Eastwood should direct. I admit Garden of Good and Evil could of been better, but he IS a good director and when his name gets attached to something it gets done and not with skyrocket prices.
Get an actor that isn't in the 20 million dollar club, that's right an actor not a personality.
Nic Cage has this thing about making everything some experiment which is great, but not for Superman. Personally I like Brad Johnson from "Always." He looks perfect and is a good actor, and won't cost millions.
Lastly, you think you people can post an opinion without cutting each other down and spewing insults with every sentence?
Honestly, you make a great idea like "Talk Back" into a joke. -
Here's a controversial notion: if they cannot do a new Superman movie right, don't do it at all. Just don't bother. The world doesn't need another "punisher", "captain america", derivative cheeseball attempt. "The Crow" was cool, I liked "The Rocketeer" and yeah, I even liked the Burton Batmans (is that right?)... But the Superman series should have ended at number two... a pretty good movie in it's own right. Three was a major misstep and, forgive me for my lack of PC ethic, 4 was a call for Chris Reeves to get some money. I admire his courage and all that, but Supes 4 was a money grab, pure and simple (and Gene Hackman will do darn near anything). Don't damn Kevin Smith. He's trying. Daredevil #1 is looking to begin a very cool story arc. Fine, so folks didn't take to his Supes script... at least you have someone with a name trying to do something, rather than having some film school hack stabbing away at characters he/she only has rudimentary knowledge of. To sum: Get it right, do it right or forget it, WB. Your network stinks too.
-
I have to say that I really hope that the rumors of Tim "King of Hacks" Burton getting the axe from SUPERMAN REBORN are true. I don't ever want that guy sullying a comic book film again. While I enjoyed Richarad Donner's work on Superman, and while i wouldn't complain if he took over the film, I really think that a new director should take the reins of the Man of Steel. And there's no writer/director better suited for the job than Nicholas Meyer--the man behind TIME AFTER TIME and STAR TREKs II, IV, and VI. He knows how to handle established properties responsibly, he's a novelist and an Oscar-nominated screenwriter--he know the value of a good story, and he's a huge talent who's never really been given his due. Get meyer to write and direct SUPERMAN, get Donner to produce it, and let meyer get the fame and glory he so richly deserves.
-
maybe if superman can fly around the planet real fast and like somehow bend the space-time continuum than we can start over..make an even better superman movie
-
This is how you do it: 1) Reeve does a cameo as Jor El, superman's father (no big moving around, incorporate his breathing tube into some high tech set from ultra-tech Krypton) 2) Get Michael Bay to direct. The man can do action IF he has characters and a story. Armageddon didn't and it sucked. The Rock did, and it rocked. 3) Vincent D'Nofrio as Superman 4) Kopelson to produce. He's a schmuck, but they'll hand him an unlimited checkbook to do it. And on action, he can do it justice (Fugitive, Seven, etc.) 3) A tight, plausible plot with only ONE villian, preferably Luthor as a businessman, not a scientist, and one where he either gets away with it or goes to prison but DOESN'T DIE. This way Superman sets himself out as a continuing opposing force. 4) Cool cameos: Maybe Chris Rock as Jimmy, Ed Harris as Perry, and Vanessa Marcil as the ultra-hot lois lane. Plus, you really wanna set up for the new flick, you cast Kurt as Batman who drives up in the batmobile, hands Supes some info on Luthor and drives off. Folks love continuity. You do all that and you got a great film. And as long as NOBODY tried to turn back the earth to reverse time, it'll be great.
-
While Richard Donner could have had the movie done by now, it is not as if he is a very good, knowledgable, artistic or pioneering director. He is capable, that is it. He is in actuality, a card-carrying member of the group of directors responsible for large movies that have little soul. Sure, Donner has a sense of humour, but his movies are not very bright or inventive. The superman series needs a vibrant, knowledgeable, sincere approach by someone who knows the history, not just how to make movies. Sure the first movie was very good, but it also began the era of picking huge, misplaced actors for no-other reason than to attract an audience. This may in part be the fault of those blasted Salkinds, but could not be the fault in toto. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the latest Lethal Weapon movie--as popcorn and for the regrouping of a family--but Superman requires more...
-
Okay, first of all, Kevin Smith's screenplay was above average. Keep in mind that those jack-asses at WB pulled his strings a bit (the whole "Braniac kills a polar bear" scene was thier idea and made Smith sick to his stomach). But he's off the project and probably won't be back on. Well, all of us View Askewers got five months of Daredevil, Jay and Silent Bob mini-series, Green Arrow, various VA comic one-shots, and Dogma. I'm satisfied. Secondly, WB is ALMOST full of shit. They do shell out the cash for "The New Batman/Superman Adventures", one of the best television, not just cartoon, shows on TV now. Thirdly, why is everyone knocking Burton's Batman? Batman and Batman Returns were two of the best comic movies ever along with the first two Superman flicks. Three and four of both respective series were crap. And I doubt Burton could do Superman. His style just doesn't match "America's Icon". Fourthly (is that a word?), RE-RELEASE SUPERMAN I and II! Re-stored, lost footage, the whole nine yards... on DVD. And last but not least, Singer is not directing X-Men. The guy (his name escapes me at the moment) who wrote The Usual Suspects is slated to write. And knowing Cameron, he'll leave "Rose's Grand-Daughter" for Mary Jane. :-)
P.S. - If you got something to say, at least have the balls to leave an e-mail address you cowards. Some, I understand thier reasons but other say stupid bullshit that may make Harry regret ever starting "Talk Back". -
In the course of this three-act, drawing room farce, Superman must prepare the ultimate meal to impress Lois Lane's crabby new boss, Jann Wenner (who will play himself after performing so brilliantly in 1984's tour de force, "Perfect.") Of course, Supes has never cooked a day in his life, so he enlists the aid of Green Arrow, well known in the comics world as a cullinary genius. Problems arise, though, when Arrow forgets to set the timer, and burns the impeccably prepared roast; leaving Superman to dash out to the local Jack In The Box, which is owned by none other than Lex Luthor. Luthor, taking fiendish delight in his nemesis' awful dilemma, proceeds to undercook the burger beef, causing everyone at the dinner party to contract salmonella, which results, by way of a rather Chekhovian twist, in the death of Lane and Kent/Superman's year old daughter. Hearts sink, tears swell, and the curtain falls. I'm taking offers beginning at $1 million.
-
Fuck Superman. Apart from the scenes where Superman finds the reporter's dead body in her car, and when his father dies, the film sucks donkeys. Richard Donner is a hack; he'll say anything to get another bite of the Hollywood pie. He should be publicly flogged for the abominations that were Lethals 3 and 4. Fuck him, and fuck Superman.
And fuck Tim Burton for what he did to Kevin Smith. As a screenwriter myself, I know that that kind of behaviour fuckin' sucks.
Fuck 'em all. -
Richard Donner sucks? Wow I don't get that too often. Considering he made : the Lethal Weapon series, the original Superman, The Omen, Ladyhawke, the Goonies, and others. Do you not like these movies? Kevin Smith sucks too, huh? He was going to make a very kick-ass Superman movie, with the Justice League and everything. It's pretty moronic to say that hed'd turn Lois into a lesbian, cause Smith would treat the Superman character more faithfully to the comic than those damn Warner studio bastards.
-
Here's what I think. If you have any question why Kevin Smith should write the script to a new Superman movie, watch "Mallrats". Yeah, everyone says it sucked donkey, but that's because the movie had so many comic references, anyone else wouldn't give a shit. This man knows comic history. Did his script blow? I wouldn't know. I think reading scripts before the movie comes out is a moronic practice in the first place, and trying to envision the writer's visions when you truly can not is a waste of time.
-
Are you kidding me? I remember hearing of the Chris Rock as Jimmy Olsen rumor a while back and nearly vomiting over the side of the Orca. This is a terrible idea. Don't get me wrong. I like Chris Rock. I think he's a really funny guy. I dug him in LW4. But he is NOT Jimmy Olsen.
Sorry to not be very PC, but Jimmy Olsen is a geeky, young, white photographer. I might not be so against this idea if it for one didn't totally bastardize the original comics, two suddenly turn a character that in the 4 movies previous white black, and three wasn't so obviously a ploy from Warners. I could see that old, white guy sitting under the Warner shield going, "Now, we need to get the black market into this. Uh-huh! We'll turn Jimmy Olsen black! That'll bring us more money!"
Anyway, just an opinion.
-Q -
I am Hips, the man who initiated the entire campaign way back in September of 1998. I believe that WB should have a lot more sense. Here is a film that was passed over by the American Film Institute for their "100 Films of All Time", and apparently about to be a "forgotten classic" (thanks to the way the TV rights were sold, courtesy of USA Networks). Yes, the film elements (as I'm sure the music tracks) are beginning to show their age, and something has to be done about this.
I believe that "Superman" is more deserving of re-release than their other film properties. How can you have the sense of a studio that theatrically re-released "Enter The Dragon" as the stand-alone re-release to represent its 75th anniversary? "Superman" is one of the greatest epic films ever made...and possibly the last. Come on, WB. Show us that a man can fly again and re-release "Superman" in a restored Director's cut with some (if not all) of the footage restored and the music put back the way it was, not partially left out as it was in the theatrical release.
"Superman" lives....but only if we allow him to be. -
I do not want richard donner or kevin smith working of the new superman film. Did people actually read smith's superman script it was terrible. Lron, Brainiac, and Lex 's dialogue was awful with stupid jokes and campy lines. It was as bad as a Akiva Goldsman's scripts. Donner has made two good films the original superman, other than the villians, and lethal weapon. His other movies have been garbage. Movies like the toy, goonies, assassins, conspiracy theory. Donner's movies, including the original superman movie, show no imagination orcreativity they are just by the numbers action films. That is why i still support tim burton as directot. He showed in batman that he has the ability to take a well known character and create a whole new look and feel to him which is greater than anything that has come before. I mean before batman came out most people remembered the character from the campy tv show. Now batman after the movie will be forever seen as the dark knight.
-
Okay, first I say a little about the new movie. perosnally, i didn't like the dialogue, i didn't like l-ron, and i didn't like the fact that batman holds a speech from the Batcave (hello! security problems here!). but jon peters wanted the l-ron character to be gay, and wanted brainiac to have a space dog (strictly for marketing purposes). Next, about the original classic. You know why WB won't re-release the movie? Cause they are all anti-Superman! Yep, you here it here first, folks. Look at the previously mentioned Jon Peters. He says that he hates the blue and red Superman costume, and he hates showing him flying. How is that not anti-Superman. Without the tights and the flying, all you've got is Clark Kent: The Movie.
-
Though movie prospects look doomed for now, DC is not letting Superman's 60th go completely unnoticed. In conjunction with Chronicle Books, Superman: The Complete History, a 200 page coffee table book spanning the hero's career from 1937 to the present and featuring hundreds of rare and never before seen photos of Superman memorabilia and art. I should know--I designed it (as a follow-up to my Batman Collected of 1996). Look for it!!

Iwasn't Wrong, I Just Worded It Wrong...And Meyer Shouls Still D
by kingkrypton
To Mr. CrashDavis,
When I said that Nicholas Meyer was behind STAR TREK IV, I was fully aware of the fact that Nimoy directed it. I weas referring to the fact that the film was WRITTEN by Meyer. My apologies for not making myself clearer. (I have a tendency to do that a lot.)
But seriously, if you're going to do a new Superman movie, you should give the project to someone who's going to be respectful of the property, As proven by the STAR TREK films, Meyer can do this. And let's be honest, STAR TREK makes an excellent prerequisite for Superman, given that they're both international icons and sci-fi properties. Meyer would be right at home in Metropolis.
There's another reason why I think Meyer should get to do Superman: his wife contracted breast cancer shortly after STAR TREK VI wrapped, and died a year and a half later at the age of 36, leavign Meyer with two toddlers. He's kept busy as a writer, and he hopes to resume directing before the year is out. But let's be honest here: his directing career was badly derailed by what happened to him. if he's going to get back in the game, he needs to take on a huge, splashy project. And there's SUPERMAN, a great character who just got beached by a director who was totally wrong for the job (Burton). If Meyer wrote and directed SUPERMAN, his outsized talents would rejuvenate the franchise, and in return, SUPERMAN's built-in high profile would automatically guarantee Meyer a shot at superstardom.
Clearly, the decision is obvious. Nicholas Meyer and Superman are a prefect match. Let's see Meyer grab a hold of thh Man of Steel and rocket him to new heights!!!! -
After reading Kevin Smith's script, re-watching Superman 1 & 2, and reading these messages, it's obvious who should be in charge of the new SUPES movie: DC Man. I'm especially looking forward to seeing SupperMan take on the evil house cat!
-
True, Raiders WAS a movie before a comic book. But let me ask you, have you ever read the 1940's & 50's Uncle Scrooge comic books by Carl Barks? If you haven't, I suggest you do 'cause you'll see that Raiders was EXTREMELY influenced by those comic books. In fact, the ball rolling at the beginning of Raiders was lifted STRAIGHT from Uncle Scrooge's adventures. George Lucas has even said that he was influenced by those books. And given, Superman was created by Canadians but he is still an American icon. Those damn Canadians with their "American Penis Envy". Let me ask you, since he was created by Canadians, the line DOES go "Truth, justice and the CANADIAN way", right? Wrong; survey says; an AMERICAN icon. Now before you embarrass yourself again, ask daddy to proof read your postings in the future... buh-bye
-
Richard donner's Superman '78 was wonderful........big step up on Mr. Burton in this venue.........still, though James Cameron is the only chose for Superman Lives........ he is a better action director than Donner, and that's saying alot....
-
Cameron is Donner on steroids.........only Superman can befit his ego..........during ep.1 Star Wars....5/12/99, I teaser is ending...............Williams main title closing. 1st crescendo, (it trademark metallic-blue, AJAMES CAMERON FILM..........2nd crescendo, the familiar crest ala, the movie blazes in red.........."reborn" in searing orange....... 'nuff said..................and it would be more anticipated than STAR WARS ep .1
-
When I hear someone say that they want Superman "re-made for the 90's", chills run up my spine, and I have trouble keeping down my lunch. I think that's the reason why the Batman films got way out of hand. I would love for Superman to get re-released, but there is no need for CGI touch-ups. For all the hype, I don't think the Star Wars SE's were helped by the new scenes. If they just left well enough alone. The scene when a young Clark is chasing the train in the 1st Superman - those effects are terrible, but endearing nonetheless.
Whether Superman is THE best comic book movie shouldn't be an issue. It is a popular movie, one of the first modern block-busters, and an easy sell for WB. It makes sense to bring it back. What can I say, I agree with everyone who complains about WB's handling of their latest projects.
Akiva Goldman must not get another script produced again. Fight the power. -
it's a bird, it's a plane, t's... not the superman movie...and why not? because of stupid shit! lets work this out. get Richard Donner in there, his original movie was great. Get Kevin Smith or somebody in there..with a script...and get nic cage the hell out of there! i'd rather see Danny Devito play our boy Clark than Nic Cage...Nic cage doesn't have it...

Hello. I am an industry insider, I cannot reveal my name as the studios would not ike the fact the I am about to reveal the real truth. Superman has been in legal battle with this studio for many years, holding up the pre production on the latest one with Nick Cage. Yet, it is now ON!!! Production begins in alaska in december 1998, which the first location for the fortress of solitutude will be shot at. Lois will be played by Drew Barrymore and Lex is being re-played by Gene Hackman, without the camp as the first one! Rick Cugini directs, he a a newcomer with great promise.

Some people may have forgotten this, but when ABC aired Superman, they re-inserted a ton of material that did not make the theatrical cut. Had I known, it'd be on tape today :(
For the amount of total Bull!@$# that is being thrown around about restoration, all ya have to do is search out that master tape from the ABC vaults and bring it to video.
BTW: big halloween party at Alex Ross compound. costumes 2 b awesome; a beeg thang planned. more later! -
