Friends!! Countrymen!! HBO Runs All The ROMEs Friday!!

Published at:  Sep 16, 2005 8:29:49 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

“Rome” is such a bitchin’ show HBO has greenlit a second full season after colorcasting only three episodes!

If this is a fall show (it premiered the day before “Prison Break”), I declare “Rome” the best show of fall.

If you want to see the first three “Rome” installments, all in a row, you can tune into HBO at 8 p.m. Start recording it; it’ll save $60 or $70 when it hits DVD in a few months.

8 p.m. Friday. HBO.

Get this!! “Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Complete Series,” the best TV series ever produced, WAS available for $239.99 new (or $199.99 used). But NOW you can pre-order all seven seasons brand new, including a never-before-issued 40th bonus disc,
for just $129.99!! That’s like all 144 hours for – what? – 90 cents per hour!! A better Christmukkah gift is unimaginable!!!

Seriously I've heard this show shows a lot of skin. I think I'll wait for the DVD. Subscribing to the Movie Network (The Great White North's version of HBO) is a waste.

    by computerguy68

You get the best of HBO and Showtime. And TMN on Demand is great, BUT no HBO stuff on it :( All HBO DVD's are overpriced. Rent it if you want to wait, but don't buy. BTW the skin so far is not so great...

"Hey, there mate, forget those bloody omens and haul your ass to the senete. You don't want 'em to think you're a wimp, do ya?" Unfortunatly, we have twelve years of Ceaser chasing Pompey around the world and then dealing with his sons before that happens.

I was wondering if Wendy & Lisa did the theme like they did for Carnivale. And I also think that Rome WOULD be doing better in the numbers if Carnivale was still around. BTW Carnivale HAD better numbers in it's premere than Rome. 5+ million to 3.9 million for Rome, Rome better not drop too much or HBO will regret the order for season 2

I am a history buff and like some of you, religiously watch the History Channel, When in Rome Week was just recently on and I thought it was so cool that you can see the drama play out on Rome, I really wish they had showed some of Ceaser's conquest of the Gauls, I love the fact that Octavian is already a fiercely effective politician and is already positioning himself for power with the help of his freaky Mom. Love the show, and am exstatic that they greenlit a second season. Keep up the good work!

Is simply gorgeous. If you want to see MUCH more of her nude and doing sex scenes, check out the movie Kama Sutra. It is one of my favorites. Very cool and very sexy! Much like Indira. Ummmm. Just saying her name. Yowza!

Indira Varma's breast made me laugh out loud.

    by fluffyunbound

Sorry, Indira. But until that moment I didn't realize who the real mother of the "grandson" was. I either missed something or was just slow that evening. That final scene is VERY funny if you've gone the whole way thinking Niobe was telling the truth.

All babies breast fed back then. It wasn't uncommon for other women in the household to lactate in order to help the mother out, too.

Why do all the nude scenes have women with extreme bikini waxes? Has no one associated with this show ever seen the fur on European women today? A jaringly horrible denial of reasonable suspension of disbelief for viewers.

    by happyhamster

As someone else said, I love Caesar and we need more of him. But as for the rest...it's definitely not bad and worth watching. However I think some of the dialogue and scenes feel a tad -- contrived. Strained. I don't know. For example, someone mentioned the suicide scene. It was kind of funny, but would have fit in better with a parody type show (Think Monty Python meets Rome). But here it felt out of place. That's how I feel about a lot of the show. Yet as I mentioned, the show is still very watchable and I'm a sucker for period pieces, so I'm in for the long haul and recommend it to others. That said, temper your expectations - it's overrated in an Entourage-ish way.

    by fluffyunbound

The scene is clearly intended to demonstrate that Niobe is the real mother of the child. While it is possible for a woman who hasn't been pregnant for fourteen years to be a wetnurse [in some cases it's possible even for a woman who has never been pregnant], it would be unusual. [The typical wetnurse in antiquity would be a woman who had just weaned a child of her own.] So my "read" of the scene was "Ha ha ha, I acted indignant that you suspected me of infidelity, when I was guily of it the whole time - and the entire subplot of our daughter's boyfriend was just a contrivance." And so I laughed.

    Awesome Show

    by movieman742

I love this show. The Roman time period is just awesome. They did shut down production for 3 months because they wanted to "rework" the plot. Well, judging after the first three episodes, this might turn into the best tv shows ever. The first three have been really good. I loved the relationship between Titus and Vorenus. Especially the part when Vorenus asks for advise about Niobe. Instant classic scenes. I laughed my ass off. As for Caesar, yeah, I hope that them "reworking" the plot puts him more of a focal point of the show. But so far he is not in Rome and the show is called "Rome". So far I feel he is completely underused as Caeser. Antony is such a pompus jackass that I fell in love with his character almost immiedietly. I was extatic to hear that they picked it up for another season. I hope they don't put his assassination at the end of this season. I'm hoping but I just don't know. When they started this it was only suposed to be a 12 part "mini-series". If it was then they would want to show Caesar's death. I would have to give Rome a 4/5 for the first 3 episodes.

    by fluffyunbound

Because there's always the chance that, to look at movieman's point, that the execs actually had the OPPOSITE opinion - they might have decided they wanted LESS of the historical figures, and more soap opera personal relationship stuff. They might have wanted less realistic detail, and not more. For example, the show has been somewhat frank [not perfectly frank, but somewhat] about the institution of Roman slavery, where Antony can stop on the side of the road and fuck any shepherdess he feels like fucking, and Atia can beat one of her house slaves to work off stress when she's upset - and the execs might have seen that and said, "What the fuck are you guys shooting with our hundred million bucks?!" I certainly hope that the "big changes" we're supposed to see from episode 4 on are good ones, but since I already like the show, naturally I'm a little trepidatious.

ROME Needs More Pagan Blood Ceremonies, Vomitoriums, and Orgies

    by zombiesolutions

so far, it's aiight. but it needs more decadence. basically, i want it to be CALIGULA: The Series. i mean, yeah, "Captain Cuckold" and "Poor Man's Russel Crowe" guy are okay, but, i dunno... so far it kinda seems like a cop buddy show (but Romanicized). so far the best parts have been the cow sacrifice (sexy lady covered in blood! creepy, scary, AND funny!) and the crash course in ancient brain surgery...

Deadwood by a mile, but like Deadwood, Rome will easily grow into something special as it moves along. As of now, it's the best show of the Fall. Easily.

    Boring!

    by neaera

The first episode of Rome was fucking boring! and this comes from a classics student. It looked like a cheap verison of gladiator! there are so many fascinating stories of ancient rome to tell- i wanna see some Christian being crucified, and then covered in tar and set on fire and used as lamps for one of Nero's parties...not Caesar sitting there going "My daughter has died in childbirth" Whopdy- friking-do!
