If “Weeds” was a new fall show, it would be my favorite new fall show of the coming season. It is smart and funny and has pithy things to say about the way we think and live. I actually find myself craving new installments. I don’t believe there’s ever been a Showtime series that made me say that before.
Mary Louise Parker is no teenager, but her doob-dealing soccer-mom character is the kind of funny/sad heroine-of-the-suburbs who wouldn’t seem too much out of place in Neptune, Sunnydale or Stars Hollow. About a dozen major characters wobble about in her orbit, and I don’t think there’s one I don’t find entertaining.
I’m excited, then, to point out that Showtime is on Saturday colorcasting the series’ first five episodes, starting at 8 p.m.
