We Get SOUTH PARK For Another Three Years!

Published at: Sept. 8, 2005, 7:07 p.m. CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here, hijacking Herc's Coax column for a single story. I noticed Hollywood Reporter ran a story confirming Comedy Central has signed for 3 more seasons of SOUTH PARK with Trey Parker and Matt Stone now officially contracted for at least 42 more episodes!

South Park is one of the best comedies ever run on television, a show that grown with each season, somehow keeping itself fresh. The giddiness of Parker and Stone as they tackle taboo after taboo... I mean... Mr. Slave and Lemmiwinks? "I made you eat your parents!" It makes me smile that we get 3 more years of South Park for sure (unless they pull a Chapelle, of course) and I hope we have them for another 10 after that.

Comedy Central has inked a deal with the creators of "South Park" to bring the long-running animated series back for three more seasons, the network announced Thursday. Executive producers Matt Stone and Trey Parker will write, direct, and edit 42 more episodes of "South Park." Currently in its ninth season, "Park" will stay put through 2008. "I was at Comedy Central when we launched the first season of 'South Park' and I am thrilled to see them continue through 2008," says Herzog. "Matt and Trey are creative geniuses and a huge part of the Comedy Central family and we look forward to continued success." A new season of "South Park" begins Oct. 19. The series started in 1997

    42 episodes for 3 seasons?

    by mrgreentheplant

Thats the amount most shows would have in 2 seasons.. those guys are so damn lazy. Still if this show keeps its trend of improving with each season i'll be happy. woodland critters christmas is the best episode and its the most recent season.

  • Sept. 8, 2005, 7:18 p.m. CST

    Best show ever.

They are still the best satire out there. Fearless and nonpartisen. The Wall*Mart episode is just so fucking funny. I really wished they had been making shows around the time when Tom Cruise was going all Scientology crazy-eyes. Hopefully they will hit that one out of the park like they did with Mel Gibson when they return.

  • Sept. 8, 2005, 7:24 p.m. CST

    yes, good news

    by Rupee88

I think the show will always be entertaining as long as there is fucked up dumb shit for Matt and Trey to make fun of on the show and that will be true forever.

    by keyserSOZE

Matt Stone is going to be leaching off of Trey Parker for three more years, hm? I find it odd that, even though Parker has written every episode since season four, people still credit Stone just as much. Don't get me wrong, I love Matt Stone--he cracks me up--but who's kidding who...Parker is the brain.

What I was trying to say was, since I'm a nobody from Virginia, and since I'm pretty sure they don't except ideas, I'm gonna run mine by y'all. A episode that I thought Matt and Trey might have done last season. Anyways, here it is. After Garrison's sex change, he is caught up in the medias attention of gay marriage, and pursues a relationship with Ms.Cartman. His running line in the episode is "I'm not gay, I'm a lesbian!". Eric walks in on the two getting it on and is traumatized. When his mom tells him that they are gonna try and get married, He freaks and moves in with Kyle, gets Kyles dad to help him get divorced from his mom, and begins his search for his real mom. Garrison and Ms.Cartman actually get hitched due to the fact that she has a dingaling, and Eric finds out that his real biological mother is......Sally Struthers!

There needs to be this number of eps because there's no way Parker would be able to manage anymore. 13 eps is enough for anyone to be able to write. There's no way a 24 episode season would work, unless you want half the season to suck ass like the Simpsons.

    by _Maltheus_

It's still the best animated comedy on TV. Simpsons diluted itself with too much crap and Family Guy has been a mess ever since coming back on the air. South Park is pure genious......... Thanks to whomever made the comment about Ayn Rand. This is one of the most conservative shows on television and whenever I tell anyone that, they look at me like I just grew a third arm out of my head. Most people have no idea what makes someone a conservative or a liberal. But the themes in this show are pretty consistently conservative.

    by chickychow

And some just aren't. Actually, its on a gag-to-gag basis, but most probably aren't willing to give the show 30 min to watch about 10 min of funny stuff. The Tim Blake Nelson episode (in the woods) was the best I saw, very amusing. I saw them do a half-hour special on stage as Stella and it totally sucked ass. Not a funny moment in the whole performance. But whatevah. I do what I want...

I dig the sheer, unapologetic audacity of South Park. Three more years, baby!

Although I Still Love Both Shows -- South Park Takes Alot More C

    by ZombieSolutions

i love both shows, but South Park is much edgier. the thing that bugs me about alot of The Simpsons, is that it always wants to tuck you into bed nice and snug at the end. it always ends with some kind of nicey poo ending where the family conquers all and all is well in the world. on the other hand, many, many South Park episodes end on a very dark (and darkly hilarious) note that, to me, is far more entertaining / satisfying. pound for pound The Simpsons may be a consistently better written show, but for the evil humor (aka the really funny, meanspirited stuff) you have to watch SP or Family Guy. oh, and Futurama was "meh" at best. not bad, not great, just "meh." hence it's cancelation. and American Dad pretty much sucks.

  • Sept. 11, 2005, 8:08 p.m. CST

    I don't know what I'm talking,huh?

    by kintar0

Look up "believe" in the dictionary. Yeah, that really is Evangeline Lily in that LiveLinks commercial. Oh, South Park isn't overrated? It's one thing to say someone "doesn't know what he's talking about" or "is wrong," but another thing completely to be able to support something like that. South Park was really popular when it first premiered, due to its accessibility. The show definitely catered to the lowest common denominator when it began (ass/shit/gay jokes) and really had nothing original about it. The show has since expanded to include social commentary, which is good. Any show that plans on sticking around has to change, has to evolve. But it's easily not a popular as it once was, when it DID offer the poop jokes, because of the current lack of poop jokes. They sure as shit don't sell as many Towlie shirts and Butters action figures as they did during the first three seasons when shirts and toys featuring the four kids were so enormously popular. I've heard the rave reviews and personal opinions over the years, and the show is terribly overrated. Sure, the social commentary aspect of the show makes it funny, but take away that aspect and you don't have anything. Poop/gay jokes are certainly not new or original. Hey, love it all you want, and sure, I like the show, but it's overrated.
