The WB’s “Supernatural” is a, yes, supernatural thriller from writer Eric Kripke (The WB’s “Tarzan”) about two brothers who take a cross-country road trip to solve their mother’s 20-year-old murder. It stars Jensen Ackles (“Dark Angel,” “Smallville”) and Jared Padalecki (“Gilmore Girls,” “House of Wax”). It debuts next Tuesday and will regularly air opposite Fox’s “House” and CBS’ “The Amazing Race,” as well as ABC’s “Commander-In-Chief,” NBC’s “The Office” and “My Name Is Earl,” and UPN’s “Sex, Lies and Secrets.”

Here is where Yahoo.com is letting you watch its pilot now!

    Not impressed

    by seven higgins

Saw it on Yahoo, I am not the type to dismiss something based on one episode, but there was nothing that blew me away like Lost. It reminded me of a non story arc Smallville filler. And the way it deals with the paranormal is too B-movieish. It's a mix between Dukes of Hazard, the boring parts of the otherwise great movie Frality, and a few scoops of typical WB target demographic angst. Like I said I won't judge it by it's pilot. We all know how much things can change from those.

    FRAILTY

    by raylangivens

haven't seen this yet, but I just had to echo a SeVen Higgins point - FRAILTY is severly underrated. Or, it was at least a movie that slipped through the cracks.

I second the 'three weeks' call.

  • (or whenever this shit came out) It was all right I guess, but you can tell on the pilot that "The Evil Monster" is actually the guy from Gilmore Girls. Speaking of which, I hope it lasts, so I don't have to see Dean on GG; he became annying and useless after he got married.

supernatural...the lil series that tried too hard

    by acebandage

I watched it and couldn't help butthink it tried way too hard to be slick, hip and referential. It just felt too much like Fastlane meets Freakylinks.

    Plain bad

    by elab49

The story just isn't there - absolutely no attempt at credibility. No chemistry between the leads and barely a decent performance between the 2 of them.

Reminds me a lot of Veritas.

  • Not a real compliment if you ask me. This looks corny and will be gone before the season ends.

Damn that Jensen Ackles sure is purdy!

    by yeti

Remember people dismissed Smallville when it first started. My guess is this will last a few seasons but won't find it's footing til after the new year (actors will get used to their charecters, etc etc)

I'll give it more than three weeks

It's not like the WB is a real network where they can easily plug in another show.

    Half season, maybe.

    it has potential

    by krangelus

this show really will rely on the quality of the storys it tells each week. In the first few weeks if theres a bad one it could spell damnation.

Another thing is, there needs to be more of a story arc rather than the whole finding there father thing.

it has potential to be good though, but im not expecting it to be on the fall lineup next year.

This was better than I thought, others have probably said it, but it feels a bit like buffy/angel, but less comic-y.

    With regards to invasion

    by zp-blight

It somewhat sucked... The story was inconsistant, badly acted, predictable, etc...

If I see one more girl walking out to find a cat in a storm, I may just blow my head off. I mean come-on, there could be more original ways to build suspense.

Oh... and yet ANOTHER scene where there's something hidden and the guy has to go head-in to see "what it is" and get sucked in. Haven't we seen that in every horror b-movie in the last 50 years?

    I agree, Yeti...

    by viola123

I think "Supernatural" will have a chance and hopefully the network will give it time. With "Smallville", it always had the support of publications touting it Year One, so it was definitely given time, and yeah, this season looks to be amazing, given how "Commencement" went in May. I'm going to support "Supernatural", although it's up against Jason Lee, *sigh*. Even though "My Name Is Earl" doesn't look particularly good - it's Jason Lee. But then again, there's Jensen Ackles! Gosh decisions, decisions. Well anyway, Michael Rosenbaum is on Thursdays - that's basically all we need to know, LOL. That and James Marsters being on "SV" and Tom Welling and *heart*, the show finally pursuing a particular couple that I've been waiting, waiting for - it's going to be some year. Um, off-track now. Sorry. Go "Supernatural"! :)

    Medium. any good?

    by emeraldboy

Rte had Medium on at midnight. BBC had it on 11.35(which the bbc are notorious for doing whether an american show is good or not, examples are sienfeld, Larry saunders and Bilko)

Is medium any good is it worth my time. Should the viewers of UK/Ireland avoid this.

    NewYorkKid, are you serious?

    by ashfett

Buffy and Angel both had five seasons each on The WB. There were a combined 210 episodes of those two tv shows on that network. If Supernatural got a five year run, that would be damn good. Most shows go a season or two long past their prime as it is, and the Buffy UPN years are a testament to that. As much as I wish the WB had brought Angel back for a sixth season, I also kind of dig that it went out when it was so good.

    Medium is watchable Emeraldboy

    by elab49

Although some epis can get pretty tedious.

Re Supernatural - what was wrong with the first epi could pretty much be summed up by their wondering onto the bridge, claiming to be law enforcement and everything round that. It was just completely dumb. YOu watch it thinking 'well that is just stupid - why doesn't the law just kick them out'. But that would affect the 'story'. Utterly ridiculous.

So - reading the above - I guess the selling point is 2 pretty boys to keep the little girlies going? *sheesh*

Super Natural Super Dissapointing and message for Ashfett

    by lostbat

As a pilot should be a great Billboard for the rest of the series, things only can get worse..........
Elab49 is right the story is totally stupid. Acting is bad and ooohhhh 75% of the plot is stolen from other series and movies. Lets hope that the WB put all their creativity in their other series.

    Medium is good entertainment.

    Dear Ashfett,

Since when networks cancel shows when they are at their Prime!!
The networks only think about making big bucks, not about ethics.

Cancelling Angel was a BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!

    House always wins

    by jagger

Although house basically has the same storyline each episode, it is the interaction of the staff and the occasional classic rock gem played over the end credits that make it difficult to stray from. I was not expecting much with Supernatural and boy did they deliver on those expectations. It is more like "So Weird" than Lost and the comparison to the latter is quite insulting. If it was a half hour longer they would have been able to force a few more sci-fi/pop-culture references in. The ending saved it but it is a little to Hardy Boys and not enough "Lost Boys." I'll give it a shot thanks to Tivo. What is the over/under on Commander-In-Chief? I say 6 episodes.

  • I don't know why I just sat through it all. I rate it GAHS (GawdAwfulHoaryStory) and WOW (writers on weed). If ya haven't seen it but plan to view, I don't want to ruin the incredulous guffaw you will have when you realize the gist of the "supernatural" in the first ep, but suffice to say it is barely one step above "hookman". The credits (or rather one credit) had me scared, but not in a good way-- "Executive Producer MCG"... that'll make blood run cold.

This one could have been called Boy Buffy.

    by serious black

It's a male Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Only without the witty dialog. Despite the weak pilot, I see some potential here. I liked the explanation of the Lady in White phenomenon. I like shows where the scriptwriters actually research what they're writing about. And just 'cause it's dealing with the supernatural doesn't make it any more far-fetched than CSI. Jensen Ackles is good, but the other dude (who seems to be the star) is awful. Hopefully he'll get better. The show really could use a touch more humor to cover up for it's other weaknesses (wretched dialog, obvious plotting, general absurdity).
