About That Alleged SUPERMAN Teaser Trailer...

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

... um, despite what EMPIRE Online says, that is not the teaser trailer for SUPERMAN RETURNS, and that is not a new John Williams theme.

It’s a fan trailer. It’s a really well-made fan trailer, cut together from footage that’s been used in the previous BlueTights blogs, but it’s still just a fan trailer. And, frankly, if that was the teaser trailer, I’d be worried. It’s an okay assemblage of the footage the guy had to work with, but it’s not terribly exciting and there’s not a single real money shot in the thing. I’m sure whatever Warner Bros. is cooking up, it’ll be more impressive than this. It had better be, anyway...

As I understand it, Warner Bros. plans to unleash the first SUPERMAN RETURNS teaser attached to HARRY POTTER & THE GOBLET OF FIRE this November. I’m sure there will be a lot of noise about it landing online, and we’ll run a link for you then. But for now, hold tight. This is not the trailer. So please... stop e-mailing us the link.

"Moriarty" out.

especially after the recent newsweek article. Brandon Routh just doesn't quite look right or somethin, and the story is kind of, uh, un-epic even though it's branded as "an epic adventure."

When this site can't even do something as simple as post a good reliable link. And on the few occasions they do its usually some behind the scenes picture of the actors drinking coffee between takes. WOW. This happens all the time here. Instead you have to rely on the talkbackers to hunt it down and provide the good link. But then again this is also the same site that posted 3 gushing, glowing, "A must see movie", reviews of land of the dead, so that explains a lot.

    2 Different Movies

    by Flummage

I want this film to work, I really do. But like I posted on the last Supes/Kong TB, I'm getting two different messages from the stuff were seeing. First, is from the magazines pictures, and articles coming out. This film wall fall down. It looks camp, the story revealed in the latest artical, just seems to much smaller and and tackier than I was dreaming for. It sucks. It's gonna bomb, and everyone will hate it. I try to fight it, but it just gets worse and worse, and those 2 new pictures above proove it. The other film I'm seeing, is from the actuall footage. The tidbits and clips from the blogs are pure quality. Say what u want about pictures and casting or what ever but the actuall (semi) finished footage is class. It looks epic, it feels as if it's beeing played very straight, with a lot of nobility and pathos. And Routh's voice just echos that, so does Eva Marie Saints, she delivers those lines beautifully. I love that clip in the comican footage, it's already stuck in my head permanently. And the John Williams score over it all?! OMG. It's gonna work. Its gonna absoloutely fucking fly. They just need to stop promoting this movie, with tacky photographs, 330 or so days before it's even coming out. I'm pretty confident that on the screen, this film is gonna blow us away. I'm not a Supes fanatic, a super hero fanatic, or a Bryan Singer apologist, it's just the facts as I see them from the footage, the most important hints that we can get at this stage. I just hope I'm right, for our sakes anyways...

    Major Villans Minus Luthor

    by sledgehammer5050

I think this movie is gonna be great. The tributes they are making to the first two Supes movies, the music, and the casting is great. My only fear is that they are not tapping into the plethora of villans Superman has. I mean, one of the many reasons spiderman is succeeding is because the villans are very interesting and diverse. Superman has Metallo, Darkside, Lobo, Bizarro (which I'd love to see him) and most of all...Brainiac! I just hope eventually they tap into those villans so we can have a balls-to-the-wall all out modern day Super fight better than the third Matrix. I mean giant trucks being thrown at each other, buildings being smashed up, etc....please dive deep into the comics!!@!!

In a fight between Superman and Harry Potter...

    by playahatersball

Harry Pothead actually has the upper hand. It sucks to think that any prepubescent with magic powers could basically hand Superman his ass. Hell, anyone with a red-tinted tanning booth could destroy the Man of Steel. Why is Lex Luthor not smart enough to develop a weapon he could fire into the atmosphere and block out the sun?

    The Anvil of Crom

    by darthbinks1220

Hope they use Kevin Smith's script for the sequel to Returns. James Cameron should direct. Basil Poleduris' Conan the Barbarian theme should accompany the trailer as Supes battles Doomsday. This will accentuate the God-like power of both Superman and his Kryptonian nemesis.

  • Sept. 6, 2005, 12:48 a.m. CST

    That's inspired, mattw

    by I Dunno

If he did that, I wouldn't even give Bryan Singer the -tip- of the head of my penis. And a reacharound would be out of the question. As for Kevin Smith, was that the script with the polar bears or is that one of the many rewrites? I don't think Kev has displayed the chops to write any kind of action movie yet, especially a major studio picture. And note that I refuse to use the Hollywood buzzword "tentpole", unless it's referring to Bryan Singer's cock while watching American Idol. Ok, ok, the gay stuff is getting hacky, I'll show myself out.

    Kevin Smith's Script Sucked!

    by Cymbol

I don't know why people treat Kevin Smith as an expert on . . . everything. He likes comics, and made some low budget movies with a few chuckles. The script was terrible for those who haven't read it. The first couple of pages starts out with a bank robbery, "we see two shiny red boots appear on the edge of a building". Then he "blurs" around taking their weapons. Years waiting for a superman movie and this is our introduction? But the WORST thing in the script. Supes is with Lois, and hears a cry for help. He jumps off the edge of a cliff and comes back up as Supes. (she knows supes identity. He then says the WORST line ever. "Up, Up and Away. I always wanted to say that." Then flies off. Wow! I guess he always wanted to say something like the comic book character . . . that the movie is based on . . ? Basically, just pages of this stuff. I just don't understand why people are so infatuated with the idea of Smith directing a comic book movie. Unless Jay and Silent Bob get superpowers, he needs to leave this stuff alone.

Methinks Singer is trying too hard to capture Donner/Reeve

    by performingmonkey

I haven't seen an image yet that isn't trying to redo what Donner did, and Singer's trying to make Routh like Reeve. It's as though he thought 'OK, let's admit it, we can't cast a good new Supes so let's just make this model a Reeve clone'. Pity he's like one eighth Reeve's size... I'll admit, a couple of things in Singer's production diaries, like Clark throwing the baseball where they used a practical effect (please don't replace it with CG!!), made me think 'cool' but is that enough? And the soap-like storyline of us not knowing the father of Lois's baby and her fucking off with another guy doesn't sit too well with me. I hope this is a fairly minor part of the movie and that most of it is a totally badass Luthor at work. Something worries me though. Warner were going to give this picture to McGee and a shitty script from JJ Abrams so I don't trust their judgement. It seemed to fall a little too quickly into Singer's lap. He had his Supes story in his head for years, which is why he jumped at the chance to direct, but was it fully realized? No matte what, until the movie proves me otherwise I will believe that Lois and Clark (ahhhhh, Lois and Clark...who woulda thought that Teri Hatcher would become a Desperate Housewife and Dean Cain would become a....a....) have been cast wrong.

    Superman movie

    by Hugh Jass

I think its gonna suck shit. Routh looks like Reeve reincarnated. How about something original, not a remake of the shitty 1980's Superman? Smallville should have been the big screen Superman movie. Its by far the best treatment of the Superman legend ever. BTW, I know a guy who worked on X-Men 2 in Vancouver and he says that Singer was always perving on young guys. Always. Major fucking perv.

  • That means with marketing and theater costs it would have to make about $400 mill. It could happen I guess with foreign and DVD sales but why would it possibly cost that much? Kevin Spacey's the biggest star in the thing and he doesn't command that much. They don't have to pay for a new score. The Matrix already did the flying person CGI thing. I don't see a whole lot of ground being broken. Maybe it was that train set. Or maybe the fabulous after hours glory hole parties but that shouldn't be on WB's dime.

    by joeydoo

And its soooooooo bad neo would have looked much better animated. If superman looked like that for 140mins then people will have walk out because of side splitting pain. He has to be flawless all the way through for this film to work. I am fed up with plastic looking superheroes. Spiderman being a case in point (I did enjoy the film, though). Hulk still had some of the best CG I have seen and that was many years ago. He will be replaced by King Knog (I like that typo so I'm gonna leave it) shortly. If superman can be totally undetectable for the whole film I will be impressed. We should be there by now, shouldn't we? This isn't a comment on the quality of the films that have bad CG in them. I can still enjoy the films regardless. But it's a matter of standards. Dare I say that Jurassic Park might still be at the top of my list for CG. T-rex still stands up. That film did have some bad Muppets in it though.
