Yet Another Review Of That FAMILY GUY Straight-To DVD!!

Published at:  Sep 05, 2005 3:08:41 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Yes, we know. Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story has been on the Internet’s illegal bittorrents for eons now, but I think this reviewer just discovered it. For those of you kids who don’t want to risk the MPAA putting your parents in the poorhouse, it goes on sale legally Sept. 27.

I’m begging with this! Enough with the “Stewie” reviews! I’m pretty sure every “Family Guy” fan downloaded this thing in April. This fellow says it’s “kinda not bad. But not great. Definitely not great.”

Hey Herc, Hey Harry, Hey Quint...

Hi bobby Jo...

Ok, enough of that.

Names Slumley. I did a review on the site a couple of years ago for Undisputed with Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames.

A close friend of mine made available to me the Family Guy movie that's going to be for sale on DVD soon. Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story.

I'm a big fan of family guy, I really am. I think the shows since they have come back have just been funny as hell. Sadly, The movie isn't.

There's a joke at the beginning of the movie referring to buying it for $3.99 at car washes a couple of months after it's released and I think that's going to be sadly prophetic. The movie is ridiculously funny in the beginning, focusing on all the major characters arriving for the premiere of the movie. Lois is drunk as all hell and I was howling at several different parts.

Then... not much really happens.

SPOILERS. SERIOUSLY.

The movie then turns into a regular episode of family guy, albeit an hour and fifteen minute long version of one with the same number of jokes. The family decides that Stewie Griffin needs to learn to swim. He attempts to murder one of his classmates and the murder backfires and Sewie goes to hell for a minute in one of the few funny scenes in the movie. Stewie is affected by his trip to hell and tries to be good, but he's Stewie so he can't be good. Once he realizes that he tries to supress his evil with alcohol and ends up with hangover and a damn funny tattoo.

He see's a man in San Francisco on television that might be his father and goes on a trip with Brian and Quagmire to find him, but it turns out that the man IS Stewie, just from the future. Stewie tags along with future Stewie to see his future and is appalled by how pathetic his future life is. He tries to fix his future life and in classic family guy fashion makes it worse.

Later, Stewie travels through time again to the beginning of the movie and stops himself from screwing up the murder. Then he disintegrates himself. Whoops... didn't see that coming.

Are there parts that made me laugh? Hell yes. Was it better than half the movies released this summer? Hell yes again, but this year is about the worst for movies that I can ever remember so that's not saying much. There were way too many times when I was sitting there thinking, jesus, how long is this? Maybe this formula doesn't work for movies. It's way too fractured for an hour and a half. The Family guy style of humour is all over the place on the show and that works in the show, but it doesn't seem to work here.

I'm dissapointed. I really expected them to push the envelope and aside from a few 'Fucks' here and there, no envelopes were pushed in the making of this movie. Dammit McFarlane! What the hell is wrong with you? Where was full frontal Lois? I WANT FULL FRONTAL LOIS!!!!

Um...

Ahem. Sorry. I don't know where that came from.

So.... yeah. Family Guy Movie. Coming to a store near you real soon. Kinda not bad. But not great. Definitely not great. And no full frontal Lois.

Slumley

P.S. - This makes me very trepiditious about the supposed Simpsons Movie too.

    Huh.

    by psychocrash

I've had the show downloaded but unwatched for awhile now... And I think I'll keep it that way.

The more bad/mediocre reviews I see, the more I'm likely to like it.

But then again, thinking that may in turn make me like it less.

    Mind go ow.

Sounds like they didn't really take the opportunity to push beyond their TV limits much. I don't need any "full frontal Lois" but something more than an extended tv episode would have been nice.

I'd say calling people you don't know virgins on a movie news site a little more pathetic than actually being a virgin. Now if someone starts talking shit about the shawshank redemption then I give you permission to talk shit to them.

    this reviewer's an ass

    by houston500

so this guy's main reason for not likeing the movie is that Seth didn't 'push the envelope' and didn't do a full frontal lois. Hasn't this dick heard of the internet? I'm sure there will already be a toon porn site that'll sort him out. I thought the movie was funny as fuck, especially the cut away gags (two words: bugs bunny) and if he didn't find it funny then he's probably not as big a FG fan as he says. I dont care if its just three episodes tacked together, and i don't care that they'll probably end up in series 4 sans fucks. there is not one bad epsiode of Family Guy (unlike the simpsons) and the movie kept the standard up there. I think this dude should watch it a few more times or maybe come up with a more valid reason for not liking it other than you don;t get to see lois' love burger.

    Take it in context...

    by jiggauk

It wasn't made as a movie, it was made as a 3 episode story-arc of the regular series which they decided to package as a movie DVD due to the previous DVDs selling so well.

I'd agree with the general sentiment though, it's good but not great. Season 4 started a bit shaky (recurring characters that should have remained as throwaways, like the greased-up deaf guy, or giving Brian more 'dog-like' behavior) but it's just as funny as it's ever been now. I think this 'movie' was supposed to be episodes 4, 5 & 6 and it shows. Hell, they even acknowledge it isn't much of a 'movie' from the extra material.

Still, it's worth a purchase if only to see the extra footage at the end when Peter discusses the cancellation of the series and admits he "may have gone a bit too far with the incest episode."

    Fuckin' genius.

    by alucinor11

I swear people claiming eurotrip is the funniest movie ever while I cannot stand it. Dodgeball funniest movie of the year? I just don't get it. Then again one of my favorite comedies is heavyweights. Anyone else agree?

see I didn't think anchorman was all that funny either

    by alucinor11

once the trailer and the previews played over and over there really wasn't anything else left in the movie that was funny. Fuck half the funny shit wasn't even in the movie. Better than dodgeball yes. I just think comedies lately have been running dry. Five funny parts makes a comedy movie nowadays? I don't fucking think so. I haven't seen the wedding crashers or the forty year old virgin... I suppose I probably should. The Big Lebowski really isn't even a comedy and that's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

    shallow and pedantic!

Actually. it was the equivalent of 3 mediocre Family Guy episodes...but 3 mediocre FG episodes are better most other comedies on TV right now.

Because that guy's review was dead on. Fact: Family Guy's schtick starts to congeal after about 30 minutes. PS: Dodgeball was barely watchable at best. So many missed opportunities in that flick. Plus, haven't we had our fill of that assbag Stiller? He should be kicked out of Hollywood already.

This review REALLY "Grinds My Gears!!"

    by mace13

I have to disagree with the person who wrote this review. I thought the Family Guy movie was pretty damn good. It's even better upon multiple viewings. And Just like another talkbacker already posted above this is actually only 3 episodes of the show put together so you can't really expect Mcfarlene and crew to get away with making the thing rated R the way the reviewer apparently expected. This is going to be shown on tv from what I understand. So they had to keep some limitations on what they could do with it. Just some of the sight gags and other sub plots going on in the movie are totally worth it. Even though i've already seen this I know for a fact it's going in my dvd library as soon as it comes out and I'd recommend it to anyone else who considers themselve's a Family Guy fan. And what the hell did the reviewer expect to do with a full frontal Lois anyway? Sounds like he had his box of tissues and bottle of lotion sitting beside him as he was watching this thing.

SUCKED. OT, I just watched Sin City last night and it was SICK...in the slang word for cool way. My god, that was great. And uh, Family Guy IS consistantly funny and my favorite show on TV right now, but it's impossible to top seasons 4-10 of the Simpsons. Comedy gold right there.

This reviewer lost all credibility when he called this summers crop of movies crap. He even went on to imply that summer movies from the past were good. I dont know if im alone here, but barring war of the worlds this summers movies kicked major ass. For me at least, this was the first time the hype lived up to the films.

    by captain katanga

... the jokes are not up to standard. sure there ae funny parts, but its no way near as good as many of the episodes in season 4... watch the one where lois starts modelling for a constant stream of great jokes. the movies just isnt in the same league. which is a shame because you'd hope they put the best stuff in the movie

if i had payed 10 dollars to see this in the theatre i might be a bit disappointed, although surely still amused, however, it's a direct to DVD "movie" (yes 3 episodes together) that warned many a laugh (i love the ferris bueller bit) and i'm glad they didnt overuse "fuck" or much of that, lois hammered and saying fuck me or whatever was actually one of the weaker moments i thought

go fuck yourself cuntface. I slammed the reveiwer cos the only reason he had for not liking the movie was cos there was no hardcore toon porn in it. Are you fuckin nuts? is that what you americans do nowadays? jack off to toon porn? I laughed my ass of during the entire movie and though that presenting stewie as a 40 year old virgin (written at least a full year before the bullshit movie with Stev Nomark in it) WAS pushing the envelope. The show continues to defy expectaitons of where the characters can go while still remaining within the proven formula. So i know nothing about movies huh? I should just die huh? Yeah whatever. The simpsons while admittedly genration defining (as you so cuntily put it) is still a dead horse and has been for years now. Hey here's an idea, jack off to REAL porn with REAL women in it, watch the original producers, life of brian, the big lebowski, animal house and duck soup around 200 times and then come and lecture me about comedy, fuckhead.

    peace

I haven't heard anything good about this movie. This new season has sucked and all people have to say is that it's not as good as that even. The show is just a parody of itself. I am so sick of recurring gimmicks, like chicken fights. I use to defend Family Guy to everyone, but any genious it once had has long since left the building. At least Stewie isn't as gay anymore. But he ain't an evil genious either, so what's the point?
