First pics from del Toro's PAN'S LABYRINTH sneak onto the web!!

Published at:  Aug 24, 2005 3:17:06 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint, the Fat Whitey as I've been dubbed by a Guillermo that does not have the surname del Toro, here with a peak into the world that the Guillermo that does have the surname del Toro is working on. PAN'S LABYRINTH is supposed to be a sequel in tone only, if that makes any sense at all, to del Toro's THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE and the pics at the Spanish newspaper website below seem to confirm that. I'm an unabashed fan of del Toro's work and I'm dying to see this, especially after that teaser poster image sprang up online a while back... you remember the one with the vagina tree? If this flick is half as good as THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE we're in for some good stuff!

Hi everyone at AICN:

Knowing Harry´s love for everything Guillermo del Toro (AKA El Gordo)
has done, i can´t help but to offer you this link:

THIS LINK RIGHT HERE!!!

These are the three first pictures from "Pan´s Labyrinth" (or "El
Laberinto del Fauno", as we know the project in Spain).

The movie stars Maribel Verdú (Cuaron´s "Y tu Mamá también"), Alex
Angulo ("Alex de la Iglesia´s "El Dia de la Bestia" and Sergi Lopez
(an absolutely amazing actor looking way too fascist in one of the
pictures).

For all I know, the movie tells the story of a 22 year-old girl that
meets a Fauno (a creature half-goat, half-man) that helps her escaping
from the Post Spanish Civil War fascist environment. By the way, the
"Fauno" is played by Doug Jones.

If you use this, call me XAMFARGO.

And at least it's supposed to be in the tone of THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, which is Del Toro's only decent movie.

    by dimnix

River Queen is a film about the New Zealand land wars. Basically, the war that happened when the british showed up and tried to claim everything and the maori fought back. The maori kicked their asses for the most part, actually, which was funny considering britain was this great power. It was a bit of a mixed up war too, with some maori choosing to fight with the british against rival tribes etc.

    should be a good film.

A truly great but underappreciated early-70s Spanish film with elements of magic realism that has a young girl meeting Frankenstein's monster after viewing James Whale's film version. It takes place in the Franco era -- I wonder if del Toro has it on his mind at all.

I'm probably going to be under a lot of stress these next two or three weeks... for a lot of reasons... so if I seem a little... um... more batfuck crazy than usual... uh... yeah... it's probably just stress and should be ignored. I'll probably just be away for a bit... but if not... don't mind the opossums... they only bite if you look them in the eye or mention "The War" while serving their Waldorf salads. Peace.

Looking forward to Pan's... Devil's Backbone was quite a fun little film. I'm really kind of getting sick of WW2 films (there are some many other wars to look at people! (Happy to see JAR HEAD on the way)) in any genre, so that's saying something. Will this come out before or after Hell Boy 2? Peace.

Del Toro is fat, and fat men make fat films

    by noeland

I should know, I am also a fat man who makes films, and fat is fat as fat does. What does this mean? It means fatty foods breed fatty thoughts, and fatness and fatitude, unless you got on the crack/heroine diet as Peter Jackson clearly did, you will remain a fat film maker making fat films that will forever be half as good as thin films that can dance and sing, and don't have to sit down out of breath every 10 minutes. Do you KNOW what I mean? Because it's late and I felt like posting a totally nosensical post about Del Toro, and I don't even know what I mean. Are you still reading this? BAH!!

    AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS

    by neosamurai85

So it's Del Toro that wanted to Adapt that Lovecraft novel. I heard some little murmurs about a film adaptation a while ago and have been in a state of holy fuck ever since. Well, groovy! It would be a bit of a tonal sea change for him to get it right, but perhaps if he keeps focusing on things like Backbone and Pan's... he might just pull it off. Still need to get off my butt and see Cronos... As for HB2, I'm not a big comic reader... or even a small one for that matter, so perhaps there is room for a sequel, but things felt pretty closed book to me. Still, I always like to see Tom - mean Ron get good roles. Peace.
