Harry here in Kayente, Arizona - about ten minutes from heading off West son, West! Heh. Might show the tot the meaning of the word gigantic by driving him to the Grand Canyon. Check out some natural bridges, but then it is time for PLANET OF THE APES. The first mega-geek film of the trip served up upon the beach that Taylor washed up at the beginning of the film. AWESOME! Anyway, as I was sitting here in the Holiday Inn parking lot, Father Geek and Giovanni doing laundry at the $1.75 machines... I got an email from Ernest Cline... aka Ernie Cline... aka undiscovered geek genius behind FANBOYS. Back a bazillion years ago you may remember that this film was all set to start shooting, I opened my mouth about the project and the next thing we know... Poor Ernie was flooded with the hellfire of Hollywood offers. Which muddled the whole thing up on to its path to being a well financed feature film.

If you remember - this is the story of 4 lifelong fans & friends. One of them develops a deadly illness that will take his life before the release of the first Star Wars prequel movie - and it is his dream to see it with his 3 friends, whom he's seen the original films with. Problem, he doesn't have long - and George Lucas isn't known to screen early prints of this movie for folks. So they plan to somehow breakin to Skywalker Ranch and watch whatever they have.

That was the cheap little version of this story. Actually in reality it is a story of friendship and a quest for the impossible. It's about the road and the history of friends of our generation. It's funny, iconic and cool as hell. There's been many drafts since that original one, and each time Ernie has knocked it out. I hear that casting is in the process right now - Why "THE PHANTOM MENACE" - well that was the last time that Star Wars geeks were united. Their anticipation was maddening. They believed they'd see that film and get their pants pregnant. It was a miracle movie at that point, that thing we never thought we'd get. It was pure. There was no question, no debate. Cynicism hadn't come in and it was the dream of what it may be. Truly the high water mark of anticipation for "our kind". They had moved it to the subsequent films - but luckily Ernie and crew realized what was special before that first screening. This has been nearly 8 years in development... maybe 9, but great scripts sometimes find a way, I'm glad this one is.

Ernie - Congrats - just get the film done in time for BNAT 8 & leave the fungus behind!
