Uh Oh! No INSIDE For You Next Week!!

Published at:  Jul 21, 2005 3:17:19 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

If your TiVo tells you next Wednesday’s episode of “The Inside” is on its “To Do List,” your TiVo lies to you.

We just got word from our mole deep inside the Fox network that the episode of Tim Minear’s serial killer thriller earmarked for July 27 has been bumped back to Aug. 3 - to make room for a special 90-minute installment of “So You Think You Can Dance.” "Dance" also preempted “Inside” this week.

In other Fox news, the almost-universally reviled “The Princes of Malibu” has been yanked indefinitely after only two airings. So perhaps “Inside” fans should count themselves lucky!

Stay tuned.

Were Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader two different people in the early drafts of “The Empire Strikes Back”? All is revealed in The Annotated Screenplays (Star Wars, Episodes IV-VI)

Look! A new book co-edited by big-deal "Buffy"-"Firefly"-"Gilmore Girls"-"The Inside" TV writer Jane Espenson. She introduces each of the essays, and the whole book besides:
Finding Serenity: Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly

Now that you know how it ends, look for clues in the old episodes!! Lost: The Complete First Season on DVD!!

    by el fuego

That's all the Inside does for me. Meh. It's competently written, well acted, but it's just another procedural show... maybe if it came out 5 years ago it'd be doing better, but it didn't.

    by jim jam bongs

That new David Boreanaz show is similar too. To that end, I would LOVE to see a procedural show where in the pilot episode: 1) The male and female lead who have sexual chemistry IMMEDIATELY sleep together in the pilot -- and then have to deal with the consequences of their professional vs. sexual relationship throughout the series/season. 2) A character tells another character: "Please stop talking cute. It's annoying." 3) The characters do what appears to be a flawless psychological profile on their character -- but are COMPLETELY wrong in the end. 4) The serial killer gets away, and may return later in the season. 5) One of the characters, who appears like he or she is supposed to be a cast regular, gets murdered by the end of the pilot. ... Seriously, I would LOVE to see a procedural break all these cliches in its pilot episode. The Inside is guilty of almost all of these cliches, except for sexual tension between characters. The only good thing about Minnear's show is the casting of Peter Coyote. I still cannot believe Rachel Nichols as an FBI agent profiler. Utter bullshit. She is way out of her league here.

And that was more than enough. I don't buy that there was anything "real" about that show. Everything seemed so obviously staged, I thought I was watching a punk'd rip-off. Imagine my suprise when I found out it was an Osbournes rip-off.

Just to test Herc's credibility after what I now like to refer to as "The Great Insider Hornswaggle of 2005", I watched some episodes of "Firefly", which I had previously dismissed after watching 5 minutes of it when it was actually on. Now, I had been a fan of Buffy and Angel to a lesser extent (I hear I should have kept watching Angel but I fucking hated Connor too much) and Firefly turns out to be nothing like those two. It turns out to be... really fucking good. Fuck. The 2 hour (1.2 hour) pilot episode, which apparently was aired out of order, was one of the best things I've ever seen on tv. It played like a movie it was so f'in good. This was starting to throw my world out of order a little bit. So I watched the first episode that was actually aired, "The Train Job". It was not as good as the pilot...but it was still really fucking good. This show seems alot better than Buffy OR Angel. So I stand here fucking confused. Confused that a show with this caliber of acting (I liked every single actor, not sure if thats ever happened before) and storytelling could get cancelled, and confused that a gentleman with seemingly impeccable taste would tout such a blase show for weeks on end. What. the fuck. is going. on.

Of the 6 things you listed... five of them happened in CSI ALONE. Those are some of the biggest cliches in the genre. You need to watch more television.

    good show

    by wixmmm

its not as bad as everyone says... yes, its another procedural show... and firefly was another sci-fi show, and wonderfalls was another dramedy.... the guy is trying his hand at every different genre, and doing it quite well, which i admire alot.... but as for THE INSIDE... what people aren't noticing is that what seperates this apart from the rest is that they solve the crimes from psychological perspectives, not using chemistry and evidence and stuff.... i don't watch CSI so i can't say how they compare, all i know is that if the STORY ARC that has been set up is actually followed through (Webb snapping and being a serial killer) i beleive that the episodes we have so far will have served their purpose perfectly. Webb is going nuts, we say that in the most recent episode.... he's loosing it, and so far solving crimes has been his outlet for not committing them... imagine how hard its gonna be to catch that smart bastard once he looses it.....too bad we probably wont see that happen.... but itd be sweet if it did.... yeah, so far the shows average, but some of the best need time to grow.... now go watch Rescue Me.

    by punto

Isn't this what that Minear dude said a couple of weeks ago when he announced the show was cancelled? (they'd only air 3 more episodes, and then replace with that dancing thing). Anyway, the last episode (with the comic book writer who chewed women's fingernails) was amazing.. That's what this show should have been from the beginning.. Show us how sick and creepy Web is, and how Rebeca was his natural succesor.

...not a single soul. "The Inside" was D.O.A., regardless of casting the always amusing Adam Baldwin. Just because a show has some vague connection with Joss Whedon does not make it great by any means. Hell it doesn't even mean it will be good television. I just watched the first episode of "The Surreal Life" with Balky and that was more entertaining than any episode of "the Inside" yet...AND I F*%#IN HATE REALITY T.V.!!!!!!!!!

Go see "Memories of Murder" (Korean film)

    by shan

The police in Korea in the 1980's had no real experience with serial killers, they have no idea who it is, no insight into his mind, have to send DNA samples to the US to be tested, beat a lot of suspects and in the end the two lead detectives get into a fist fight in a rail tunnel over where the investigation is heading. Obviously some parts are dramatised fiction but based on a true story and out on dvd soon in the US.

Damn it, I was enjoying The Inside. I agree the nail-biter episode last week was well done, and every episode I was able to catch entertained me. I am a fan of CSI and watched Profiler in its day. Oh, and besides the three CSI's, what other procedural shows are on right now? I can only think of Crossing Jordon, which I haven't been watching. Is Numbers any good? Can't say I'll be crying over 'Princes' cancellation, that was a weak premise to begin with. Now if only The Simple Life had received the same treatment.

That show should be 'So You Think You Can Run A Television Network?'

They bitch about losing viewers to cable and DVD and proceed to cancel the shows that are similar to what cable carries and show shit that no one gives a shit about except 'tweeners' who have the attention span of a gnat on meth.

    by tall_boy

I thought the pilot was alright, and I got all the episodes here, but negative will to watch 'em. Someone, anyone, convince me, ok? In realated news, "Dance" KILLED in the ratings for its first airings, so I dunno what that means for Inside. But, yah, Pilot was ok, but need more. Is there more? Is there? anyone?

  • The show had potential. At least a lot of writers and actors I like were able to pay some bills. As for the Princes of Malibu, it was staged. According to some trashy show that was on the TV when I woke up around 3 am, David Foster allegedly did it to get some cash to pay for his divorce from Linda Thompson. Glad he is kicking those psychos to the curb.-----later-----m

    by batshtcrazy

Honestly this show was bad, I tried watching it and yet it was just bad, and I believe if none of the 'buffy/angel' people were even involved in this most people on here would be admitting to the same thing. Whedon and co. might have made two god shows (wouldn't know never watched them and proudly I admit) but not everything they touch or will touch will be gold, yet the blind followers will defend this show until it's off the air and curse fox for dumping it...sad sad sad.

    by neaera

First off, I love Buffy and Angel. And Wonderfalls. But this show was unremittingly dull. Had they shoved Finneran and Baldwin into the spotlight, maybe i would have had a different opinion. But the dull cop dude and random blonde chick just werent very interesting. Okay, I only saw 2 episodes, but shows like Angel and Alias manage to draw you in from the very first episode. I've come to expect, no, demand, shows that are great from their first scene. So I don't really care that this has been cancelled.

Just saw on CNN that the mother and father got divorced and they sold off the house as part of the setlement. So even if they wanted to retool the show, I think it's impossible. Not that it mattered. I watched 5 minutes of this show and that was more than enough.

    by prof. pop-cult

Had this series been allowed to continue into a second season, I think the natural evolution would be to focus on Paul and Web, and start putting Rebecca into the background (resolve any mystery behind her storyline, and then put her into a supporting role or write her out of the show). These latest episodes have really shined because the Paul and Web, and the actors playing them, are the most interesting. Adam Baldwin's character and the redhead would be given more to do, going into a second season. The fact is, this series has been bogged down by its female lead -- she probably was decent in the original pilot (the "cop undercover as high school" student idea), but I'm afraid that in this revamp, she was underqualified for this role. Rebecca as just as uninteresting in this show as the black tech guy dude (a role in which Adam Baldwin's character could have been shown taking up some responsibilities for, instead -- i.e. have him be the one who finds out stuff with computers, except he's not a tech... Baldwin's character could have also taken on the duty of "point man" who goes to various tech heads within the FBI whenever his team needs tech help.)

And I saw the ads for "Princes Of Malibu" and I thought to myself, "oh yea, gee, I just CAN'T WAIT to watch a show about a couple of fucking horrible brat punk kids blowing money everywhere and being "funny" about it all, these douchebags who have dumb hot blondes hanging around them all day (which, apparently the boys can't see why they're truly there), and who have never worked a single goddamn day in their lives.
