HBO Gives ENTOURAGE Its Third Season!!

Published at:  Jul 18, 2005 3:00:49 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

“Fucking Harvey.”

HBO CEO Chris Albrecht tells the Television Critics Association: not only is the pay service putting on a third season of E, Vince, Drama, Turtle and Ari Gold next year, it wants more than 13 episodes for that third season.

If you’re not watching “Entourage,” which airs Sundays at 10 p.m., kindly start. Jeremy Piven’s little sun-dance on Sunday’s episode – the one he performed when the James Cameron call came in - was itself worth the 6.5 2nd-season hours of your valuable time. And the faux Harry Knowles character should be turning up to report on the progress of “Aquaman” any day now.

Read Variety's take here.

Were Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader two different people in the early drafts of “The Empire Strikes Back”? All is revealed in The Annotated Screenplays (Star Wars, Episodes IV-VI)!!

Look! A fabulous new book co-edited by big-deal "Buffy"-"Firefly"-"Gilmore Girls" TV writer Jane Espenson. She introduces each of the essays, and the whole book besides:

Finding Serenity: Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly!!

Look! A new book by
“Freaks & Geeks” creator Paul Feig!
Superstud: Or How I Became a 24-Year-Old Virgin!!

Look! Christina Ricci cavorts nakedly!
Prozac Nation on DVD!!

Look! Original casting tapes! Deleted scenes!
Audio commentaries! Backstage with Drive Shaft!
Lost: The Complete First Season on DVD!!

And when will The Comeback live up to it's potential?

    by mr. profit

The show is interesting so far, sometimes laugh out loud funny, other times pretty sad. I am waiting for Valerie to realize that she's washed up and embrace her reality TV show which after tonight, I already see it's going to get higher ratings than "Room and Bored". Lisa Kudrow always manages one great line per episode. "Thats why I did the Hallmark movie about the lady with the headaches" The show better get funnier soon because it's frustrating to watch a show where everyone shits on the main character.

    by yanksno1

TNT868, we obviously have different tastes in shows. I thought Carnivale and Deadwood were both aweful, didn't watch more then 1 ep of both of them. I agree The Comeback is bad as well and never watched 6 Feet Under.

Entourage is simply great. The 1st season I equate to Sienfield's S1-2 and this season is like Sienfield's S4. It's that great. Each actor is really coming into their character and I completely agree with amievil that 24 min is simply too short. It needs to be an hour, hopefully they'll do that for next season. Each ep feels like it's just getting started when it ends.

    by fluffyunbound

It's a comedy. Of course there are going to be "antics". It's a comedy about the fine line between trust and exploitation. I'm sure you consider "the industry" to be a sincere and serious vocation - but who the fuck would watch a comedy about that? "OK, now we're filming scene two, where everyone has a very serious and restrained meeting to review the promotions schedule. After that, we'll film scene three, where Ari completes his expense report form." Yeah, sounds like a GREAT show. I prefer Entourage's approach for the same reason I don't want to see a weekly show about a data-entry clerk in the Caribbean entering insurance information into a computer all day. Besides, the show is extremely demeaning to women, and that's always fucking funny.

Now that's funny stuff. And Johnny Drama clinging to his last shreds of celebrity is an inspired character. I still have a problem with Eric, though. I know he's supposed to be the straight man to all the insanity around him, but he's pretty much a charisma vaccuum.

    HBO: Starfuckers

    by nate champion

This Variety article points out the obvious: HBO is sadly obsessed with acotrs, showbiz, Hollywood, you name it, all under the banner of one choice word: BULLSHIT! Of course, shows like Carnivale that are actually about something interesting and not concerned with glamor and fame get fucked in the ass. Rome looks like a dumb copy of Deadwood (which itself is weak) and Big Love starring Bill Paxton is just going to be a cut-rate replacement for Six Feet Under. I guess anything with a dark edge like CARNIVALE just doesn't have a place at HBO. It's a network for people who read the tabloids, not people who want quality shows.

    Reply to Talkback

  • I have never seen Carnivale. Im sure it was a decent show because it has many fans. But I never had the desire to watch. But it's not the fans of Entourage fault that Carnivale was axed. Maybe the production costs for Entourage were too much for HBO to handle, especially when they have a big budget series comming out soon (Rome).

Carnivale took forever to develop, which is why its dead now. It had some good shit going on but you have to account for attention spans and the need for instant gratification. Also easy on hating anything from Dazed and Confused, even if it is Randall Pink. "I wanna dance!"

Godammit I don't understand why shitty shows like Entourage manage to stick around while television magic like Carnivale gets axed just before the third act (hence not finishing the story). Who is going to remember Entourage in 10 years? Noone. But everyone who watches Carnivale will remember it forever - and they'll remember how they got fucked 2/3 through the story arc.

    by thevision

Entourage is the type of show the powers at HBO love: insider hollywood and very L.A. HBO also loves the urban, gritty shit, that's why "The Wire" got another season, go figure. Despite HBO's self-obsession with their industry, "Entourage" is amusing and Piven's digs are funny-if this was a network show, his agent would be softened up; I especially thought his meeting the affirmative action quota with Lloyd the Gaysian was cruel but funny. Anyway, is the guy who plays Turtle one of the Jerky Boys?

    all the little details

    by nate champion

dogapeandman, I think the reason Carnivale fans are speaking up is because it rewards rapt attention and dedication. I mean, how many die-hard Entourage fans are celebrating here... the post celbrating the show's T&A quotient sums up its level of appeal. Also, I didn't see any of HBO's new shows on your list there. The point us Carnivale supporters are trying to make is that HBO is proceding with Family Bonds, Entourage, Comeback, Unscripted, and a lot of not-so-promising new shows instead of remaining committed to a show like Carnivale that incidentally had a bigger audience than any of those newer shows I just mentioned. HBO touts their reputation as a network that takes chances on shows that wouldn't otherwise get produced, and cancelling Carnivale on a cliffhanger certainly demonstrates otherwise.

    Entourage IS fucking sweet

    by 7cal

Pretty much all they do is talk about movies and xbox, while hot, sometimes topless models walk around all episode long. It's got a through-arc which is always good in any series. The characters are basically likeable and the situations funny. The insider jokes are just about the right 'level' too: not excessively over-your-head-only-3- fucking-people-will-get-it, but not spelled out so every backwoods billy bob can understand it. If you visit this site regularly, you'll get every joke. Well, whatever, I like the show and am happy to see it get renewed.

    by homergator

The phrase "too inside baseball" seems to apply to this weak as Desparate Housewives HBO throwaway. I love that the same people who bash Housewives (Which I do, insidentally, hate) LOVE this show. People? They have the SAME faults. Both are written SO self aware of themselves that it's sickening. "OH, dear, look how DELIGHTFULLY clever we're being with this writing. Oh ho...what a witty monologue by Piven where he yells and swears...Tee Hee, we're making a joke about Aint It Cool News, won't they be tickled pink with laughter at how "REAL" and "INSIDE" we are". ARGH...the show makes me mad, if for no other reason than I think Piven is a GREAT actor. And while parts of his character in this show were amusing, I couldn't get past seeing the writing seep through the seems of his performance. To think...they want extras of this show and they cancelled Carnivale. ::sigh:: A mighty great one is begining its fall.

FOreigner belt...so sorry that your attention span is so small that you can only view a show that panders to the lowest common geek denominator. Carnivale was a beautiful show to look at and to give yourself over to for an hour each week. Sure, it wasn't easy as a half hour of T&A and Jeremy Piven reading monologues recycled from PCU..but, then, what is. Oh, and to all of you that missed it above. One of your big Entourage supporters is also feeling empty with fewer Sex and the City reruns. That's what this show is...Sex and the City for guys...but just as I cringed listening to four women speaking the words of four obviously gay male writers each week and discussing the taste of semen, I grow weary too of the shameless lack of anything "REAL" to say on this show.
