    I liked the review, but...

    by rapmaster c

I don't see this diamond you're talking about. You like a few things, but in general it sounds horrible. Kudos for being optimistic, but I don't think you really showed it due to the multiple problems you listed. Can a sequel save the franchise, or is another "let's quietly forget it happened" film like Elektra? I was going to see FF, and probably still will, but any expectations I had have been significantly lowered. Then again, you haven't really been looking forward to the film yourself in recent months.

    Another battle for numbers...how childish

    by willowfan2001

I'm really not looking forward to this movie. I already had serious doubts that it would be far less than I was hoping for, and now those doubts are reinforced. Oh, and seventh...whoop! (Hey, being childish now and again never hurt anybody.)

    Consider The Source

    by sean38

Now I LOVE Harry's site...been reading it since 1997...but the weak link of this site has ALWAYS been his movie reviews. Van Helsing? Daredevil? Blade Trinity? Land of the Dead? Michael Bay Movies. Harry's track record in terms of what he likes and does not like is something less than stellar. Am I expecting F4 to be another Spider-Man 2? No, I'm not. Was I thrilled when Story was named director? Can't say that I was. BUT...I can't escape the feeling that this movie is going to be a damn site better than Harry says it is, based simply on the fact that he's had it in for this movie from the beginning and given and his and my personal taste in films don't always line up. I'm curious to see what the mainstream critics are going to have to say about this one, but regardless, I plan to check it out for myself on Friday night.

Harry gushes over some of the lamest films to come out and then has the audacity to give FF a bad review. I find it interesting that he thinks that we give a damn about his life stories that he puts in to his reviews...jerkwad!

    Well, I Didn't Call Him a Jerkwad.

    by sean38

I just said that we don't always see eye to eye on movies. For example, I can't fathom F4 being worse than Van Helsing which Harry gushed over and which was one of the worst films I've ever seen. Yeah, I wish the Four were getting the Spider-Man treatment, too. I really do. But I'm over that and I'm going to try and enjoy the movie for what it is. I'm just hoping it's more X-Men and less Daredevil.

What sinks this movie is the casting

    by talos4

What I can't understand in Hollywood is the incessant need for the head honchos in Hollywood to cast all the wrong people. I would NEVER have cast Jessica Alba and Ian Gruffuld to be in this movie. They are just not right for this movie, and are mis-cast. Why not look at someone who actually looks like they are right for the role(s), instead of looking for a popular person?
It's just like getting Micheal Keaton to play Batman. Ugh. That was a HORRENDOUS decision of Tim Burtons'. The wrong people in the wrong roles.
That will ultimately sink this movie.

Whoa, back up. Keaton kicked ass as Batman.

    by i dunno

Bale did well as Batman and in many ways Batman Begins was a better film than Burton's. But Keaton is still the best Batman. True, Burton's version wasn't the muscle bound ninja that the current Batman is, he was more complex than that. Anyway,as for the Fantastic Four, I think the problem is that the characters are stupid. Even the X-Men has some semblance of dignity. I mean The Thing? Christ, the rock creature from Galaxy Quest looked better.

This is headed in the wrong direction

    by wayoutwest

At RottenTomatoes and MetaCritic the early reviews are in - and they ain't good. Then I read Harry's lukewarm - at best - summary and this looks like a DVD rental. Check that, DVD borrow.
Oh, well. The Suits f*ck up again. But I'm sure they'll blame Piracy.

    You Definitely Dunno.

    by taylor made

I was about to post my mini-review of the fantastid four but wanted to look at the posts. Uhm, I Dunno, what is up with "True, Burton's version wasn't the muscle bound ninja that the current Batman is, he was more complex than that." You must be referring to some other Batman movie that just came out. How can you say that the '89 Batman was more complex than BB? I mean this movie was an origin and they didn't go that much into Bruce Wayne's character in Burton's version. I hope you read my post so you can reply with a good explanation on why Keaton's Bats is more complex than Bale's.

  • Bale's Batman was a man on a mission who methodically used his resources to become some kind of ultinate weapon against the bad guys but ultimatly he was just a well trained and well financed cop without a badge. With Burton's Batman you get the feeling that he's a really fucked up guy. The regular playboy billionaire thing that comes so easy to Bale's Batman is completly beyond the Batman that Keaton portrayed. He can barely get through a date, doesn't even know his own house and is a millimeter away from the wacked out villains that he's fighting. Keaton's Batman is much more interesting than Balse's. IMO.

    casting

    by larman

why do storty (aka write a script) when you can get foolish hu-man in the seats with "hot" casting. jessica alba was interesting in "dark angel". sexy in "sin city". boring in FF. can she act? does any suit care? do any fanboys? note that constant saturation ads get seats filled in the first weekend. even when advance word is "it sucks". too bad for the irish kid that plays mr. fantastic. he needs a new agent or something. from all the greatness of the "horatio hornblower" shows from old blighty to "century city" and this craptastic FF. i hope his career isn't destroyed. he doesn't have legions of fanboys ogling his abs and touching themselves improperly like (saint) jessica alba. hollywood: please stop making comic book movies. you've ruined this genre for a decade at least just as you have with space opera after the 70s. so many good SF books out there now...accessible, interesting properties...why not make a few movies from already good source material??? you hear me hollywood??? do you??? don't MAKE me come down there!!!

I have to agree about Keatons/Burton's Batman...

    by anla'shok

this is all subjective of course but I did found Keaton's portrayal of both Bruce Wayne and Batman to miles more interesting. Bale seemed to "normal" to me. Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman struck me as deliciously "off".

LOL Harry and his shit pile reviews

    by reyvn_darknight

You want to know why I keep coming back to this site? Well it isnt because of Harry and his reviews thats for damn sure. Ever since he has demonstrated a complete lack of character and given the Prequel Star Wars flicks positive reviews, Ive completed discounted his reviews and film opinions as steaming piles of shit.

However, I do enjoy the stuff written by Moriarty (who has tempered his reviews somewhat), Capone, and Hercules. Tehy are the reason I keep coming back to this website.

As far as Harry's review of FF is concerned dont believe a damn word he has written. The film is a good one. Not quites as good as Spidey 1 & 2 and Batman Begins, but definitely close to X-man quality and far exceeds Electra and Catwoman.

I think the reason Harry gave such a negative review is because he didnt get any kewl swag from the producers and PR people so he is pouting.

    by jiggamanspence

I liked the damn movie. That's right, I said it. I was fully prepared to hate this movie, as the advertising and early word was shit, but I actually really enjoyed it, even more than either of the Spider-man films. Bring on the sequel!
