WONDERFALLS Is Coming To Logo, The Exciting New Homosexual Satellite Channel!!

Published at:  Jul 02, 2005 12:36:13 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

You say you like Tim Minear’s work buy don’t want to shell out for the DVDs to see those episodes Fox never aired?

The old news is “Firefly,” which Minear helped Joss Whedon put on its feet back in 2002, is coming to the SciFi Channel starting July 22, just in time for Universal’s big “Serenity” movie.

The newer news is “Wonderfalls,” which Minear oversaw last year alongside co-creators Bryan Fuller and Todd Holland, appears to be headed to Logo, a new Viacom-owned channel that came into being June 30.

If “Wonderfalls” seems an odd match for Logo (which is kinda being billed as The Channel For And About Homosexuals), I remind hastily that the series is teeming with lesbianism, thanks in no small part to Sharon Tyler, Jaye’s adorably horny but closeted lawyer sister. (Similarly, one would assume it’s the exciting Diaz-Keener sex that brings the brilliant Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman collaboration “Being John Malkovich” to the channel July 22.)

Here’s the less-good news. No one, not even the series’ masterminds, seems to know exactly when Logo relaunches the hilarious “Wonderfalls.”

Logo can already be found on DirecTV’s channel 263, which, as I type this, is airing Tony Scott’s “The Hunger.”

Were Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader two different people in the early drafts of “The Empire Strikes Back”? All is revealed in The Annotated Screenplays (Star Wars, Episodes IV-VI)

Look! A new book co-edited by big-deal "Buffy"-"Firefly"-"Gilmore Girls"-"The Inside" TV writer Jane Espenson. She introduces each of the essays, and the whole book besides:
Finding Serenity: Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly

Now that you know how it ends, look for clues in the old episodes!! Lost: The Complete First Season on DVD!!

Beware of the Rocket Scientists ...

    by shan

I haven't seen the show (that's what comes from living in Australia) but I heard an idea from one of the "creative people" on the show suggest something that went like this was planned for season 2. The sister's girlfriend breaks up with her and goes back to her boyfriend or husband or whatever but after a short while (and some heterosexual intercourse) goes back to the sister. After some intercourse (of the non-heterosexual variety) between this woman and the sister, supposedly she was supposed to transfer some residual sperm to the sister and there was going to be this whole miracle pregnancy with the sister who had never slept with a man. I just thought I'd mention that this couldn't happen because sperm wouldn't survive that kind of time in the outside environment, nor make it to the ovum. However, for everyone's informational purposes, it is the mechanism of how lesbians who have never ever slept with men can catch herpes (having contact with women who've had exposure to men with the herpes virus). I also wanted to mention the enthusiasm of the guy who came up with the idea, the way it seemed to come across when reported was very, very disturbing ... We now return you to your regular programming ...

It would be so cool if Logo restarted the series, but with only 10 million households, I don't think that's likely. Getting the cast and crew back together would probably be impossible, too.

the only channel on which i could see halfway decent music videos. on top of that, my dickless digital cable provider didn't even replace it with logo, probably because i live in a gay-hating, bigoted area of the country (omaha, neb.) and they didn't want to get shit from all the redneck cable subscribers. so it's been a lose-lose situation for me. and to the brilliant fuck who supposedly works for mtv networks ... june only has 30 days, so i'd love to know how the logo channel went live on june 31.

Reportedly, the character was originally conceived as a lesbian. (Ever noticed that her name is asexual?) FOX was concerned about this, so Jaye was made straight and they created a gay sister.

Ha, I haven't posted to a forum in ages because of the inefficacies of reasoning with people, and here I am giving it another go.

I grant you Prior Walter's statements was a bad argument as far as arguments go, but was probably just as effective as anything I would write.

    1) As such a great etymologist, then your finding of the situation as pathetic is kind, but a focus on positive change tends to be a better approach. 2) Gays are human. Those gays who enjoy gay-themed television are also human, just as African Americans who want to watch BET, historians who want to watch the Biography channel, or animal enthusiasts that want to watch Animal Planet. 3) Normal is such a loaded word. I think the idea is to be considered natural. I have yet to see anyone who I would consider normal, including civil rights activists, history buffs, patriots, goths or what have you. 4) Not all gay people try to seem different -- nor do they all try to seem the same. To address your viewpoints, however, I would suggest a little research on a phenomenon known as the availability bias. In a nutshell, you will likely assign the characteristics of the most vocal of a group of people to the group as a whole. 5) The term breeder is employed as a reponse to the socially stigmatized terms used to refer to gays. If society is going to have a negatively-connotated word for being gay, when not have one for being straight? No one is calling heterosexuality aberrent, it's just a bit of verbal sparring. 6) No one is asking for people only to have sex with members of the same gender. 7) I've seen gay (men, I'm assuming was the suggestion, but women as well) who have very bad wardrobes. 8) Ah, the English language. First off, I think its very doubtful that the true use of the word gay or queer was used first by the gay population (and allegedly they had these connotations since the early 1900s). In fact, queer probably originally started as an insult on homosexuality. The appropriation of the words to put a neutral or positive connotation on it was probably similar to the appropriation of the "N" word by African Americans. The English language itself, especially in the United States, is fundamentally a living body whose words change meaning all the time. My tongue-in-cheek remark about your use of the word pathetic is a case in point.

I take things way to seriously. This post can only end badly...

Wow... I gotta hand it to you. Very well laid-out argument. Very articulate. I'm impressed that you were able to keep the whole thing clear-minded and PC all the while. Personally, I would've just agreed with the whole "He's an idiot" thing and left it at that. But nice job! Beyond that, though, guys like Anchorite don't have much use for levelheadedness. They don't like things being explained fairly and they don't take to other people trying to open their eyes to viewpoints they haven't yet concluded on their own (or had sold to them from the likes of Sean Hannity.) Of course, I leave the floor open for Anchorite to return and discuss your argument with you on the merit of the points you made and not simply revert to more right-wing swill, and if he can, I'll gladly fix myself a heaping plate of crow. Something just tells me that my diet this afternoon will be crow-free, however.

    Jack McFarland, Program Director

    by lando griffin

I never was a big fan and didn't watch Will & Grace that often but I remember the episodes where Jack was at a focus group for the launch of a gay cable network and his ideas for shows where so outlandish and stereotypical he was hired as a program director for the network. Thats all I can think about when it comes to this. Also, is it safe to assume they will be showing syndicated Will & Grace?

How do you know the gay population is only 3%, you can't. No one knows how many gay people there are. Not even gay people themselves. Most are in the closet and I suspect that any numerical figure high or low submitted by the right or the left is politically loaded.

Now personally as a gay man myself. I would say gay people about make up about 8% when you add bi guys that pushes it up to about 12% and when you add in guys who'll have sex with you after a couple of bears that's brings the grand total to about 25% It's not scientific I know but what the hell, as long as were making up numbers.

The origin of the word "Gay"

    by bunkyboo

It is a term coined by psychotherapists in the early to mid 20th century to describe the behavioral masking they found in the majority of homosexual patients. Outwardly joyous and carefree, inwardly battling melancholy to deep depression from repression, confusion and separateness. Also, homosexuality was classically defined not by the attraction to the same sex, but by the repulsion from the opposite sexes genitalia, therefore disqualifying bisexuals as closet gays. It is the repellancy that led doctors to define the behavior as unhealthy, noting that many different sex objects and acts were acceptable to gays while simple penis-to-vaginal intercourse is an unacceptable and often nauseating notion.

    by gamerawangi

I'm calling you on your theory of the word gay = homosexuality. Been researching the origin for years myself, and the version was the first I've ever heard. Where'd you learn that one? Any website or book references we can double check? And no fair saying, "You don't know the history of gay! I do!". Also, your post, whether intentional or not, seems to indicate that the medical profession defines homosexuality as unhealthy. Quite the contrary. Homosexuality has been taken off the list of mental illnesses for decades now.
So, again, I ask: Where'd you get your info on the origin of gay meaning "homo"?

Meant to say:"...and the version you posted was the first I've ever heard." Should also mention that in all the sources I've read on the subject, the origin of gay being slang for homosexuality goes back to the mid 19th century (if not earlier), not the 1950's as you state.
