A few more FANTASTIC FOUR reviews from NYC pop in!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a couple more looks at FANTASTIC FOUR... Now, these below reviews are positive (the first not very detailed at all, the second more specific), but much like how the negative review of THE DEVIL'S REJECTS I just posted made me more excited for the movie, these two reviews just seem to strengthen the warning bells going off in my head about this film. I've liked the new imagry in the last couple trailers and I hope this movie is an amazing time. FF has never been my favorite book, but I always found the characters super cool when they popped into AMAZING SPIDER-MAN or some of the other Marvel titles I absorbed as a kid. I've always loved their interaction, their powers and their villains. Dr. Doom is classic.
The reviews are full of hope, but it really feels to me like it's two people going, "Holy shit! This was supposed to make a Uwe Boll movie look like CASABLANCA and it actually isn't too painful!" Maybe that's just me being cynical about this project... I hope it's good. I'd much rather see a good Fantastic Four movie than a soggy turd sandwich FF flick. Here are the reviews!
Hey all you comic fans, BC here with a review of the Fantastic 4 movie
which I attended a screening of this past Monday here in NYC. First
off I have to tell you I was expecting this movie to be very very bad.
In fact, the main reason why I went to see the screening was to see it
for free as I couldn't imagine shelling out any money for a movie I
expected to be a total flop. I mean, do you remember the first
trailer?
Well, the best test of whether you'll enjoy this comic book movie is
the latest trailer. If you like the latest trailer, you'll like the
movie because it basically the whole movie, or the best parts anyway.
You just need to see all those scenes in the context of the entire
movie, otherwise they don't make much sense do they.
Of course there's a list of things wrong with the movie, I'm not even
going bother going into them. We all have high expectations for these
movies. I'm always hoping one of these days a new comic book movie
will come out that does justice to its original material as David
Fincher's Fight Club has done for Chuck Palahniuk's book.
So my recommendation is if you're one of the mass movie goers, see the
movie. If you're a fan, see the movie, at matinee price. It's
entertaining and I promise it won't be painful to watch like the Hulk.
Flame on!
That's pretty even... but it worries me that he didn't want to include the negatives and that, apparently, the best parts are in the trailer. The bits of Johnny Storm flaming on and tossing fireballs promise more than what they're showing... if there isn't much more then I don't know... I just can't shake the stink of LOST IN SPACE that seems to be oozing off this film. We'll all know soon enough, though. Anyway, here's the second review, a much more positive and indepth review. Enjoy!
Hey Harry.
Just came out of a press screening of Fantastic Four at the AMC Empire
in NY, and I have to tell you – this thing was just plain fun. I'm
talking flame shootin', car throwin', Alba tits-a-poppin' fun. This
movie knows exactly what it is - a fun summer movie – and never takes
itself too seriously like the X-Men films have at times. It feels more
like the Spidey movies in that it manages to be playful and funny, but
still deliver some kick-ass action sequences and a few comic
references as a tip of the hat to the fans. Since the Fantastic Four
is all about the different characters and how they interact, I will
break down how they each came across in the movie:
The Human Torch: OK, I have to start with Johnny Storm because he is
one of the best reasons to see the movie. Chris Evans steals the show,
and hopefully we will see a lot more of him in the future. The Human
Torch special effects looked amazing. Seeing him fly across the screen
in the trailer is one thing. Seeing him use his powers in a fight
scene is just awesome.
The Thing: Michael Chiklis was born to play The Thing. Say what you
will about the costume, Chicklis brings that character to life. You
can't help but feel sympathy for this tragic character who has been
horribly scarred and can't do anything about it. His bits with the
Human Torch are some of the funniest in the movie.
The Invisible Woman: Jessica Alba is hot. Period. Next…
Mr. Fantastic: Well, 3 out of 4 (or 4 out of 5, counting Doom) ain't
that bad, right? Look, there isn't much to say about Ioan
Whatever-the-Hell-His-Name-Is. He pretty much stays out of the way of
the remaining characters, and that is a good thing. The stretching
powers look cool, and the way they are used in action scenes is
awesome.
Dr. Doom: Julian McMahon is evil – and that is a good thing. It isn't
until the end of the film that you get a glimpse of Doom's full
powers, but they are awesome, and if the character is in the net movie
(most likely a given) the Fantastic Four will have theur hands full.
Look, this movie isn't Shakespeare, and it doesn't pretend to be. It
is just a fun summer movie full of action, a great looking girl, and a
few laughs. The first movie in a franchise is where we get to meet the
characters, and get a taste of things to come. This movie does that
extremely well, and I can't wait to see what the future has in store
for these characters. So Sit back , eat your popcorn, and enjoy the
ride.
If you use this, please call me The Kid On The Escalator
