Ambitious new Metallica DVD project

Published at:  Sep 07, 1998 10:20:08 AM CDT

Glen here...

Well, I did say I wanted to cover *different* kinds of news. And, since this news is DVD news…and I cover DVDs (even though I still haven’t gotten a player)…I thought I would pass this on.

CREEPING DEATH sent this in (I had no idea my ex-wife was providing me with information !!! I’m kidding!) about Metallica’s ambitious new DVD project. While Metallica isn’t necessarily *my* thing, I agree with CREEPING DEATH that the project itself does sound rather interesting, and suggests vast potential for the DVD format in the future.

Here’s what CREEPING DEATH had to say…

Metallica is the 4th best selling act for the '90's and they've always done
some unusual, if not cutting edge stuff to keep their fans happy.

So now what? How does Metallica take the home concert videos even further? More
personal? They turn to George Lucas and friends for the latest technology and
now they're turning last years Ft Worth, TX shows into a personal, interactive
experience. Using the hot DVD format you will be able to see through ALL the
camera's.. follow any band member you want... you become the director. It will
also be available in regular video tape format, but will not be interactive.

The DVD and regular home video of the same show are to be released on 11-17-98
(As well as a 2-CD compilation of their Garage Days stuff). DVD fans should
be excited as this promises to make a lot of people aware of the format... and
hopefully stimulate growth for the industry.

More information about this project, and other Metallica news is available through this link!

    how it'll work

    by quest

I remember reading about this a few months ago on dvdresource.com in april I think, they'll use the alternate camera angle feature to let you switch between cameras. I love metallica so this is kick-ass coolness::)

Uh, U2 is doing it first

U2's got a POPMart DVD coming out in the beginning of November (supposedly) and you can change the angle....U2's always been more cutting edge than anyone (save of David Bowie!)

King Crimson to release similar DVD

    by vince

    Robert Fripp is currently working
on a DVD version of their 1995
    Live in Japan concert(vhs/laser).
From posts on his website, they're
going all out on the multi-angles
    as well.

It sounds like a cool project, but to tell the truth the only thing I'd like to see from different angles regarding Metallica is them getting shot.
