New WAR OF THE WORLDS tv spot hits... how many of these things are there'!'

Published at:  Jun 15, 2005 2:22:00 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with yet another new War of the Worlds tv spot... I love the campaign for the flick so far... I love that the most we get are small glimpses of the aliens and their warships. I don't know how many more little TV spots I can take, but I am getting way hyped for this flick... I'm just waiting for the reviews to start coming in from all the premieres that started on the 12th and will be rolling steadily around the world until the release of the film. I don't want to be spoiled, but I'm really curious to hear what the buzz is... In the mean time, here's the latest TV spot!

HOLLYWOOD (AHN) - Scientology may yet rack up another celebrity member. This time it's Tom Cruise's latest squeeze, Katie Holmes.

According to E! Online, the young actress is researching the faith and has expressed interest in its teachings.

During an interview last week with Access Hollywood, Holmes told reporters, "I have looked into it myself, and I really like it, and I think it's really wonderful."

Cruise, who's been a follower of the faith for years, tells Entertainment Weekly Holmes "digs" the religion.

What's the big deal about this Scientology?

    by spunkfly

Ultimately it's no doubt only as flawed as say, Christianity - ok, so there's a little more of a tacky, commercial appeal, but WHY go on & on about it so?! Leave Mr. Cruise alone, the guy is awesome (Magnolia anyone?)

Most importantly - where the FUCK are the WOTW reviews????

    by snaieke

The first trailers just made me feel blah..... I mean, sure the fx of the city getting all tore up was cool, but not something I was hyped about? but to actually see (note.. i haven't clicked on the link, i am going off of what I saw on TV a few days ago) us fighting a little bit in the trailer I was jonesing to see this! Hopefully I won't be let down but the fact they're waiting to show the action trailers until a few weeks before hand gives me hope that they know what they are doing!!

Does anyone else feel sorry for Steven Speilburg seeing as how his lead has clearly gone off the deep end and is living in his own little la-la land.

Looking forward to the movie but can't help shake the feeling I saw this before when it was called ID4

Actually, I think 645354234 had the perfect right to reprimand angrykirby.tk for his "thread crap" (although, perhaps, he could've restrained the potty mouth a bit). I mean, if you don't like a movie, and have no intention of seeing it, why broadcast it to a TalkBack? Like we're going to say, "Gee, I was all excited to see this movie, but after angrykirby.tk's insightful comments, I just don't know...". And finally, I really don't think anyone who goes by the name Turd Burgler should go around knocking other's user ids.

    by fluffyunbound

We can't ultimately negatively disprove the existence of a god or the effectiveness of prayer or ritual to counteract "sin", precisely because it's such an arbitrary system. Scientology, OTOH, employs rituals that use ACTUAL DEVICES, and claims to have concrete, physical effects on the body and mind. The e-meter is just plain old stupider than the rosary, because the rosary isn't supposed to do anything you can measure, and the e-meter IS. Holding a light meter up to me and telling me I'm possessed by alien spirits is simply more ridiculous than holding a chain of beads up to me and telling me you've prayed to your god for my soul.

  • The fact that this talkback is relatively brief and that is has devolved in to religious diatribes illustrates to me that we are a bit tired of the trailers now. Unlike so many other so called big blockbuster movies there have been no real "leaks" to generate interest other than these trailers which seem to be little more than a regurgitation of the first one. PR have fallen down on their job. Also, wasn't there a premier already? Someone must have seen and wants to write abou it.

"...we are a bit tired of the trailers now." Well thank you for confirming what I've suspected for a long time: AICN talkbackers are so completely self-absorbed, they think they define or in some way represent the general movie-going public. Pull your head out of your butt...the world is much bigger than a few childish message board comments in your browser.

If the PR people for WOTW are losing ground on the geekiest film website of all time, then can you imagine how they might be doing in the public at large? AICN readers represent their easiest target audience. With the film release a week or so away, this talk back should be buzzing with excitement; instead it's arguing about religion. Is this TB the only indicator? I never said it was, but it is an interesting one. Finally, the only thing I agree with you on is the childish nature of some of the people who frequent these bulletin boards. "Head up their butts?" Quite an ironic statement coming from an asshole. Or perhaps you are just indulging yourself in homoerotic fantasies? Not that there is anything wrong with that. It doesn't make you a bad person. Let's see the B stands for "Big." The A stands for "Ass". The M stands for men and the F. . .

    by proman1984

You think AICN visitors are easiest ones to please? Hell no. Most of them are just self aborbed closeminded jerks who wouldn't know a good movie if it hit them over the head. Now, I'm not saying that they are all like that but I think you all know what I mean. I mean how can you possibly not be excited about this movie and be a rational human being? To me that's impossible.

I never said easiest to please; rather AICN readers represent their easiest target audience in that they are already inclined toward sci-fi, fantasy, action adventure more than other kinds of movies. I am looking forward to this movie and hope it was done well enough so it will do well wnough.

People are compelled to pin the Scientology angle on all recent and future Sci-fi/invasion films. There was no Scientology angle in Well's original novel. Tom Cruize is Scientology(fine by me), War of the worlds is not, ID4 was not, Invaders from Mars, The X-files, or Dark Skies wasn't scientology iether. For the uninformed, Spielburg is Jewish(orthodox i think). am I the only one that can point these things out? WAR OF THE WORLDS IS NOT A SCIENTOLOGY VEHICLE!
