Snikt! Snikt! Snikt! Fox has released an X3 teaser poster...

Published at:  Jun 14, 2005 11:41:01 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with Fox's reaction, apparently, to the big brouhaha over X3... in the form of a teaser poster that was released today. Superherohype got the poster and I have to tell ya'... if I had faith in the project I'd be really excited... I've heard that the people on the production are warming to Ratner... I guess that's a good sign... I guess... I just can't shake the feeling that the poster would work better with only the middle claw up... kind of a hidden message from Tom Rothman to all the fans, you know? What do you folks think?

Well, I already responded to this with some posts on the script leak thread... but I think this movie is going to be a pathetic mess. BAN FANTASTIC FOUR! Hit FOX where it hurts, and just maybe they'll pull the plug before it's too late. If not, hey, whatever. I'm not going to get in a bad mood about it again while there's Batman Begins to celebrate. I think, quite honestly, the best thing about well received movies like X-Men&X2, Spider-Man 1&2, Sin City, The Incredibles, Batman Begins, etc, is that no longer will fandom have to worry about one bad superhero movie sinking the ship for the entire genre. Enough good to outstanding films have been made by now that when a movie fails, whether it be Catwoman, Elektra, whatever, nobody is going to blame it on the genre as a whole; instead, the blame will fall wherever it squarely lies-- with the studio, the script, the writing, the acting, etc. In other words, I think we've reached a point where, in one form or another, comic books movies are likely here for the long haul.

So I guess if nothing else, that is cause to celebrate.

    by perfecto_fan

My god they haven't even started filming and they already have a date that is even before Superman?

Less than a year is not enough time to make a great film. Real dissapointing having that hack filmaker bury this franchise. Quint is right, it really should be a middle finger claw..a big "fuck you" to all the fans of the comics and the film series courtesy of 20th century fox.

BTW the poster looks pathetic and desperate.

That poster is ridiculous. "Me got paint. Dey say, me to paint. Me paint! Look is good. Moovie make money. Dey no whip me. Me paint again!" And what's with that release date? Spielberg may have the skill and the clout to get WOTW pushed through the process in record time, but do they seriously think that Ratner can get it done with a project like X3? This is like watching a bad car wreck in slow motion.

is my fav character, but you think they are getting a little crazy with promoting him as the most important? especially if there is going to be a wolverine spin off, they should just call X3, X-Man, not X-Men, as i said he is my favorite character but they are so biased on one character. I also remember how at one point the first X-Men wolverine had only a cameo, interesting huh? i dont know tom rothman but from what i heard here, someone should strand him on a desert island.

    by snaieke

I think its a good teaser poster. I figured they'd do something like that since Wolvie has 3 claws. I take it for what its worth, something to throw the name out there and tell people its coming. I have faith the film will be good. I think that script leaked is a bogus one. I think they're throwing off the scent of the internet community. Getting a bad taste in their mouth so this way they won't go diggin. I doubt anyone involved including MARVEL (who actually has some serious big pull to what FOX does with their characters) would allow them to do anything seriously deverse from the core of comics after all this is a big draw for them to not only A. Make money from the movie but B. Get people to buy comic books.

I say Have faith naysayers. Remember the glass is half full not half empty. A year is plenty of time for a 3rd movie. The actors know their roles, only have to memorize a few lines and all the pre-production work is done. The FX guys don't have to do ALL new fx engines since Cyke, Storm, Wolive etc... all have shown their powers in previous movies. I will forever remain optimistic until I've seen the movie, after all, how many bogus script leaks have we seen? either purpose leaks or unintentional? Note: I am not on drugs, I am not delusional and I am not insane :)

C'mon guys, calm down. I think it's a very logical-looking teaser poster, just like the teaser poster for the first film was simply an X-shaped door beginning to open. It isn't supposed to be mind-blowing art. As for the release date being superimposed on the bottom, I agree that it's a pretentious move, because how the hell do they know if they'll get it finished in time or not? By the way, I forget what the poster for the second movie was...a giant X with a 2 on it?

Keep in mind that we're getting our panties in a twist over the review of a partial rough draft and the arrival of Brett Ratner (at least we're not getting Uwe Boll). I'm with you guys for hating Rothman, but I think we shouldn't be tearing the movie to pieces before it has even started shooting. I have my own demands that I want met like the next guy...no pussy-whipped Wolverine and no mutant cure, although sadly I think they'll keep that shit in, but I'm not afraid to say that I'll give this film the benefit of the doubt, and if I get screwed over, then it's my own personal loss for doing so.

    by ribbons

It's 99 percent likely that this has something to do with all the bad press that has descended upon this movie in our little corner of the globe since last week. Which means there is someone at Fox who's paying attention. But instead of responding by pulling the plug, or pushing back the schedule, or even acknowledging the comments made in any way, they give us a poster. Boom. Release date front and center, as if in defiance. Like Quint said, it's a big "Fuck You" to all of us. It makes me sick.

The is the same teaser poster they had for X-Men. And who the fuck are you piss-wits talking trash about Stan Lee?! Do you KNOW him? Did you work with him? Did he confide some past information to you??? Yeah, some of us have read all about the "secret" history of Marvel, and about how Kirby and Ditko came up with a tremendous amount of ideas (it was part of their job, I think), and how, Stan being the unabashed ham that he is, Lee took credit for all of it. So what? Congratulations on your literacy. At this point in time who gives a shit?! Kirby was an immense talent. And Ditko is the definition of legend. But in any working relationship, no matter how synergistic, there's gonna be problems. It's debatable that either of these two artists went on to create anything on their own that was as enduring as what they did at Marvel. You can argue about Lee's talent all you want. Being a younger person with today's enlightened perspective of things, you probably will. But the fact remains he gave birth to an empire. Can you bitches say the same? BTW, if Stan still held any power at Marvel, and he saw the inanity of current developments, he would tell Avi to pack up his shit and hit the bricks, and kick Rothman in the nuts!!

...refers to the killer third act of that leaked script, which saves the movie by having Wolverine wake up in the shower and realizing it was all a dream. Maybe Storm could be in there with him asking where he'd gone in his head while she was servicing his unit. Then that funky bass can kick in and we can get the true X3 - as in triple X movie that we all want to see Halle in. That way, at least if Fox is going to give us a "fuck you," there would be some actual fucking to enjoy. Seriously, though: If the script is what we've seen, I hope to god that third act kicks all kinds of unhinted at ass.

I was tryin' t'think the other night about what it was with Ratner that bothered me so much. And behold! Ya pounded that nail. An' R.J., no yawn! You should be proud to have a character like Wolvie representin' your fine country. He's the reason a developed a fondness for all things Canadian! There's that word I hate again. Wolverine is not so much overrated (Hell, he's one of the Archetypical Characters- up there with Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman, dislike 'em if you will, you cannot deny their impact!), as he is over-fuckin-exposed. And I totally agree, he should NOT dominate the action. He should play his part, and relinquish the spotlight to the leaders and thinkers. This "lame" that you refer to is the total lack of imagination that has, thus far, characterized developments on this project. And lastly, I am all for X4: THE NEW MUTANTS! with characters like Angel, Beast, Dazzler an' Psylocke.

Nice try, but I'm not buying it. With Brett Ratner on board to direct, I'm no longer interested in "X3." I'm not saying this out of spite, or because I even care that much, but because I'm utterly lukewarm to Ratner's work. Some people dig his films, which is cool, but I thought "Red Dragon," "After the Sunset," and the "Rush Hour" films showed how uninspiring films can be.
