Polanski's OLIVER TWIST teaser hits the web

Published at:  Jun 12, 2005 1:50:37 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... It's been forever since I heard from Piotro, seems he's crazy as always. However, he did send in the link to Polanski's OLIVER TWIST teaser trailer, which seems to be on the path to being far better than Piotro's film KNEEDS. He's insane. Can't wait to see more than this teaser.

Hi there bossman!

Surely you remember your little friend, Piotro Pinkie. It has been a while since my last confession, report, correspondence even. I have been busy shooting my first feature film, KNEEDS, it is a documentary on kneecaps and how they mark the way to higher bliss. I look forward to sending you a screener of this, my first masterpiece as soon as I possibly can. I hope after this, you will truly see the world as I do.

I'm not emailing you here today to tell you tales of my club wanderings and cinema verte capabilities. Instead, I want to tell you about Roman Polanski's OLIVER TWIST - If you go to it's official French Website at this link, you will find a very cool little teaser trailer. It seems to show how poor Oliver gets caught up in all the trouble at the beginning of the film. I think I like it, there isn't much, but I think you'll like it.

Remember this link when I show you my film,

Piotro

    It looks too French.

I thought Oliver Twist took place in England. After seeing this trailer it looks like everyone is speaking Frog, er, French.

    by curryice

But I'm confident 'cause Polanski is a capable director.

This is pointless because of the British miniseries a few years

    by performingmonkey

Andy Serkis was Bill Sykes. This was just before LOTR. It was the most thorough adaptation of the book yet, and a new movie seems pointless as so much material has to be cut out to fit the running time. the 60s musical still rules in a strange sort of way. There's no need for this remake.

I put down movies I dislike, thank you very much. And FYI, I did not say I hate this movie, I just said that there is really no point at all to make another Twist movie. So there.

My post was up before any others. It read: "I wonder who will be first to make a crass reference to Polanski's jail-bait. Certainly not me." So you can't even claim victory in a pathetic "competition" without intervention of Harry and co.

How dare you people! Polanski is a genius! Who cares that if he comes to America he'll get arrested, he's done a lot of wonderful things in movies! I mean, his house was awesome in Helter Skelter....(yeah, my post got deleted too, I guess those who don't have sex don't like references to child molesters on their site)

Why the obsession with Industrial Revolution literature?

    by monkey butler

It pretty much all sucks. Oliver Twist, as somebody has already said, ends with a "twist" worthy of The Village. And it all follows the same pattern, very rarely was there allowed to be an unhappy ending.

    Polanski - "I think he's a really good director."

    by alfred_packer

"It was not consensual sex by any means. I said no, repeatedly, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. I was alone and I didn't know what to do. It was scary and, looking back, very creepy.

He pleaded guilty. A plea bargain was agreed to... and it was approved by the judge. But to our amazement, at the last minute the judge went back on his word and refused to honour the deal. Worried that he was going to have to spend 50 years in prison... Polanski fled the country. I haven't seen him or spoken to him since.

Looking back, there can be no question that he did something awful. But it was also 25 years ago and I don't really have any hard feelings toward him, or any sympathy, either. He is a stranger to me. But I believe that Polanski and his film should be honoured according to the quality of the work.

I don't think it would be fair to take past events into consideration. I think that the academy members should vote for the movies they feel deserve it. Not for people they feel are popular. I know there is a price to pay for running. But who wouldn't think about running when facing a 50-year sentence from a judge who was clearly more interested in his own reputation than a fair judgement or even the well-being of the victim?"

""After the publicity came out, I knew it was just as bad for him as it was for me. I'm sure if he could go back, he wouldn't do it again. He made a terrible mistake but he's paid for it.

"What he did has nothing to do with whether or not he should win an Academy Award," she says. "The film should be judged on its merits alone. I guess people want to me to be really angry and hateful toward him; honestly, I don't feel that way. I think he's a really good director."
