THE DESCENT from DOG SOLDIERS' Neil Marshall gets a trailer! Check it out!

Published at:  Jun 11, 2005 4:38:47 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a look at Neil Marshall's follow-up to the cool little werewolf flick DOG SOLDIERS called THE DESCENT, not to be confused with the upcoming THE CAVE. I like the trailer linked below and I have a big interest in seeing Marshall's work again. So far, I think this looks better than THE CAVE (although that poster for THE CAVE is awesome), but I hope they both rock. Can't have too many good horror flicks, I say! Anyway, click away below to get some DESCENT in your eye!

Dog Soldiers was one of the coolest schlock horror movies in ages. "Fetch!"

    Oh, and...

    by docpazuzu

...that's how you make a good fucking trailer. Total class, unlike the trailer for that cookie-cutter turdburger The Cave.

Good trailer, not sure about the movie

    by judderman

I'm not sure about a male director with an all-female cast. My instinct tells me he'll turn them all into Lara Croft. I would have liked to have seen how a female director would have done this movie.

Not a masterpiece, but a good film. This trailer looks intersting. Let's wait and see...

Oh man... they used the CE3K trailer music????

    by roguewriter

Not good, when you can't even show a little originality in the trailer. Ahh, what the hell, it's gotta be better than anything Uwe Boll can excrete, right?

    Jeff Long should sue!!

    by godoffireinhell

Both the makers of this flick and the makers of THE CAVE. How shameless can you get??

    You can't copyright a title.

    by shan

I'm guessing you're referring to the Jeff Long book "The Descent", which has to be one of the weirdest books I've read in a while. You can't copyright an idea as such either ... If that were the case, he could be sued by the makers of "The Secrets of Phantom Caverns" for starters. I'm guessing The Cave and this The Descent is just about people underground being attacked by some kind of monster, while Jeff Long's book had all sorts of stuff like an underground species of human, Satan, all sorts of other strange stuff I can't even begin to describe.

    Jeff Long sue why!

    by wyrdy the gerbil

The concept used by both The Cave,The Descent seem to have similar principles, his book goes on a very different tack by the look of it also ive read books that have the very same themes used in both of the films and longs book so its a toss up who should sue who.....

    Jeff long's "the descent"

    by u.k. star

... yeah this looks totaly different to the book, that was virtually all out war between the surface humans and underground "humans" and a whole lot of weird mind transference satanic stuff. I thought they were making a movie of that book too?

So the Cave has a water monster and The Descent has mole people?

    Nora Ephron's The Descent

    by eduinbrutus

Meg Ryan leads a group of disaffected housewives into a cave retreat as she recovers from a mistaken identity argument with Tom Hanks, hilarity ensues when trolls start eating the gang before Hanks shows up to save the day and there isn't a dry eye in the house as the lovestruck couple discover they still got it.

"attacked by some kind of monster"??

    by mr chuff

A group of women descend into a cave only to be attacked by James Hetfield, with his frightening toothy smile and Lars Ulrichs endlessly flapping tongue?

The Book was good, but this movie looks like it aint the book.

    by fish tank

When I read it, I thought "This book would make a GREAT movie." Sadly the hack that made Dog Soldiers also made this movie. There were so many demented angles in the book that made it a great read, but whittling it down to a group of women going into a hole and discovering lahblahblhah is not what I wanted to see. Granted the book was long, and probably needs an 8 hour movie to do it justice, but from everything I've read/seen this is not the way to go. And btw Dog Soldiers SUCKED. The idea was good, the creature design was terrific, but the pacing and most of the cinematography was crap. The scene where they blow up the truck is just one of many examples of how hooooorrrrriiible it was.

I don't think this is based on Jeff Long's book.

    by shan

    Just a co-incidental title.

    Totally weak trailer!

    by dabrams

Everything about this trailer is weak and cliche.

Well, that's not really fair. It was very niceley done of course, but the whole heart-beat-quickening-timed-to-faster-paced-
    very-dark-shots thing is just overdone.

Plus that squeel at the end with the final ooo-we're-gonna-scare-you-now frame is just soooo overdone.

    Blah.

On directing a bunch of women: Why would the film have been better with a female director? Are you saying that Marshall isn't capable of listening to his cast?

On the originality (or lack thereof) of the trailer: It is called an "homage" people... look into it. Anyone who's seen Dog Soldiers know how much NM loved to pay his respects to other films and filmmakers. Why should his latest be any different?

On Jeff Long: Has he supposedly got some sort of copyright on subterranean conflict?

People who thought Dog Soldiers was crap: There's just no pleasing you, is there?
