Is the JJ Abrams-Kevin Smith-Stan Lee-Jason Lee-Mark Hamill DINNER FOR FIVE On Tonight'' Hercules Is Thinking No!!

Published at:  May 27, 2005 6:46:31 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Apparently “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”/“Jersey Girl” mastermind Kevin Smith posted to his website a while ago that tonight he’s guest-hosting the best talk-show ever, IFC’s “Dinner For Five.”

So here’s something that won’t offset your post-sweeps depression in the least. According to the IFC website, the Favreau-free episode with “Lost” creator J.J. Abrams, Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, Stan Lee and Mark Hamill won’t be cablecast until the show gets back from a three-week hiatus on June 17.

According to that same IFC site, it sounds like tonight’s installment is going to be a rerun with host Jon Favreau bidding welcome to Dave Foley, Neve Campbell, Henry Winkler, and Jeff Garlin.

Were Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader two different people in the early drafts of “The Empire Strikes Back”? All is revealed in The Annotated Screenplays (Star Wars, Episodes IV-VI)

Look! A fabulous new book co-edited by big-deal "Buffy"-"Firefly"-"Gilmore Girls" TV writer Jane Espenson. She introduces each of the essays, and the whole book besides:

Kevin Smith NOT DELIVER!?!?! - - NO WAY!

    by eccentricbutter

Kevin has delivered on MANY occasions - such as his much delayed Spider-Man/Black Cat the evil that men do, Daredevil Target, Oni Press Bluntman and Chronic (drawn by Mike Allred) miniseries.

I mean - Kevin I'm sure he has a good reason for not posting, such as supplying commentary for a movie he had nothing to do with, revamping another film (pulling a lucas) or making tons of merchandise that I refuse to sell in my comic shop.

If we held our breath waiting for Kevin Smith stuff, we'd be dead.

    Fuck you, Kevin Smith...

    Hey eccentricbutter!!!

    by code6idiot

This isn't Kevin's fault here. He has nothing to do with when IFC shows an episode he happens to be in. He's not the fucking head of the network. And maybe people ask him to do commentaries because he is funny, and that's more then you'll ever get. So, I just assume that you're jealous of his celebrity. That he happened to get the fame that you were hoping to grab. Because I can safely bet that you at some point wanted to be a filmmaker. And you either failed or gave up. Which is it?

    by darthcorleone

A good idea for an IFC contest prize (as opposed to that ultimate movie fanatic thing or whatever it was when the guy got to schedule programming for a night) would be a chance to guest host Dinner For Five with movie-people of your choice (although obviously you might not get your first choice).

    Hate much on Kevin Smith

    by homergator

Wow, that was quite the venom there. I'm sure Kevin Smith is REALLY getting hit hard by you not carrying his merchandise in the store. As for Kevin Smith pulling a Lucas, what the hell are you talking about? Clerks X? Well, Clerks isn't a "special" edition like Star Wars, it's actually the ORIGINAL cut of the film. In fact, it's the first cut of the film I ever saw, the Sundance cut. That doesn't make it negate the other film in any way, it's basically just some additional scenes. It's not like he went back in, added color to the flick, and a scene of Jabba buying a drakes coffee cake. Not to mention, the DVD aslo has the regular cut of the film too. As for Smith delaying the production of this show, ummm, he doesn't work for IFC and does not control their programming. Man you are one spiteful whin little talkbacker. Hope your little comic book shop entertains as much as a guy with 6 films under his belt, as well as several comic runs, his own toy line, and a hot ass wife does.

That's Whedon for Firefly, Abrams for Alias/Lost, Paul Feig for Freaks and Geeks and David Shore for House. Man, who wouldn't watch that.

    ECCENTRICBUTTER - REPLIES TO POST

    by eccentricbutter

It seems background information regarding my post is needed. I do not believe my anger toward Kevin Smith is out of jealousy, thought you might see it differently.

I am 25 now, but when I was 21/22 I was a huge Kevin Smith far. I actually arranged him to speak at my university Indiana University with the union board. His lecture would be about a year after Dogma came out, I believe.

Now to clear something up - no. I have never been a director, nor do have any notions to be one. I know not stocking Kevin Smith in the shop has little effect in the greater sense of the nation, but out of the small library he has produced - I only stock Daredevil tpb vol 1, for the Quesada artwork.

My anger against Kevin Smith stems largely from his popularity vs. his tiny, tiny body of work. (to be fair, i LOVED Mallrats, Clerks, and Chasing Amy - they will always hold a place in my heart)

I take issue with one that deems himself a geek in the comic world, but has produced little. Warren Ellis, Brian Michael Bendis, Robert Kirkman, Brian K. Vaughan, Judd Winnick, are all comic book geeks that will complete their deadlines.

Probably better to compare - Joss Whedon - his books are slow coming out, Fray took 2 years to complete, and Astonishing X-Men is bimonthly (so superstar artist John Cassady can work on planetary). Atleast Mr. Whedon has the decency to complete his workload.

Now I ask without anger or jealousy, but what proclaimed geek would leave his storylines and fans hanging?
