Cool News
Because you demanded it... Sideshow Bob is furry and blue and Maggie Grace can run through stuff in X3!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some old news. Sorry for being tardy with this stuff... we were working on confirming a bit of as yet unknown casting in X3 and wanted to do a big story with all three bits of info. Unfortunately, that fell through and we're mega late with this one.
However, I feel there should be a talkback for this. What do you folks think of Kelsey Grammer being Dr. Hank McCoy? I love it. His voice by itself makes the character. Intellegent, dryly comic, gruff... I love this casting.
I never cared much for Kitty Pryde, but I think Maggie Grace is hot and has shown a great range as Shannon in LOST (I especially loved that last episode... when Walt gives Vincent, his dog, to her and tells her why he chose her to take care of his beloved pet). I'm very interested to see her in the film, to see how she holds her own in such a large cast of interesting characters... you know, one where she doesn't have 20 hour long episodes to work her character.
Anyways, what do you folks think? No matter your opinion of Vaughn, you can't deny we're gonna get something different from this X-film. I love the mystery and I hope he delivers!

Funniest thing Grammer ever said - SNL.

Go beast.

I love it! I can't think of anyone better for the role. His nature is inherently that of Hank McCoy.

Topher Grace, HURRY!!!

Are Topher and Maggie related by any chance?

I just wish he'd go away. He is too big to be Hank McCoy. The voice is fine but I wish the rest of him wouldn't come along for the ride. Please make him a CG character.

Has jonined the cast of Spider-man 3.

Actually, I think it seems like quite a good choice. The only thing I'm wondering is what they're going to do about the physique thing. Are they gonna put Frasier on a rigorous workout program, are they going to "build" a torso a la Hellboy, or what? We shall see. Maggie Grace I'm not so sure about. I'm not that big of a fan of hers to begin with, and I'd prefer someone who seemed a little more wide-eyed. Her so-called range aside, there are probably actresses just as good or better than her who could communicate innocence simply through the way they look. So no. I don't like that decision at all, and although I'm not privvy to script readings (there's already a script?), this smacks of opportunism on the part of Fox due to the success of "Lost" and Grace's small paycheck. I assume that with this news, they're going with the decision to cast her as Kitty Pryde regardless, so I don't feel the least bit bad about voicing dissent. I'm not being a prick for the sake of it, I truly don't like the move at all, and even if we as fanboys did have the power to influence studios on a regular basis, which I doubt, this isn't a "daring" decision by Vaughn. It's a bad one.

She's practically one of the greatest X-charcters ever created! She was the heart and soul of the team for YEARS! Still is, kind of, in Whedon's book! So how can you be an X-Fan and not like Kitty Pryde???? If you're strictly talking about the movies, ok, I understand that...but if you're talking the character in general...man, you need to go back and read early Kitty appearances becuase she was SO well written for years! Those issues where Colossus broke up with her in the early 80's? That's classic comics reading!

I think they first tried the accent in the comic. What with the whole "she's from Africa" approach. Yep, the cartoon was good. But you're not serious, are you?
-
"Why are you afraid of humans?" "I suppose...because dey are afraid of me?" You didn't realize that Halle Berry was trying to do some sort of African/Jamaican/horrible accent there? Go back and watch it again some time. I swear to you she was. And so it was that it was chucked after the first film, because everyone looked upon it, and they saw that it was bad. Yea, verily.

Kelsey Grammar = rather inspired. Maggie Grace = TOTALLY WRONG!!
by robogeek.com
I've been a Kitty Pryde fan as long as I've been an X-Men fan, ever since I started reading UNCANNY when she debuted in issue 129. In fact, the very first piece of original comic book art I ever bought was page 2 of issue 183 -- the scene where Peter broke her heart (and perhaps the one scene that most resonantly informs Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men). I've known Kitty for most of my life, and she is a critically important character to the X-mythos. MAGGIE GRACE COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG. As metaphysically perfect some of the other X-casting has been, this would be the opposite - an utterly profound misstep. Luckily, the word is that she's only "in talks", and Avi's quote elsewhere indicates that applies to multiple actresses. Look, I like Maggie on Lost just fine, but she's just not right for this. Three words: Wonderfalls' CAROLINE DHAVERNAS. That's Kitty Pryde. Don't fuck this up, Avi!

They should have used Bowie's wife, whatshername?, Iman. That bad stilted acting + accent + statuesque beauty would have been perfect for the role of classic, pre-punk-rock Storm.

Larry the Cable Guy as the Blob is an inspired idea...
by spectrebeeyatch
Maggie Grace is wrong as hell, she looks good in a two piece though. Will X3 even have a plot? Or will it just be a bunch of characters coming together and talking and then two fights and then credits? They should just kill some of the bad guy characters off and use Sinister and Blob lol
-
Yes...we demand a "news" site to give us news...but this is like 3 days old??? Then it's called "Ain't It Cool" and not "quick and timly"
-
She is easily the least attractive and worst actress on LOST, and a horrible choice for Kitty. She screams out generic blonde actress. This is X-Men folks, not Mutant X. Kelsey Grammar is very interesting... I can see a lot of fans not liking the idea but might end up loving the results. I hope the Maggie Grace deal falls through...
-
Grammar's great, Grace is boring. Though she is hot. They seem to be alternating on casting, Vinnie Jones, wtf? Grammar, inspired, Grace, blah, so maybe Angel will end up being a kick ass choice.

So did Rogue for that matter, seemed like Singer told them both to give it up cause both their accents kind of withered away by the end.

by wonder man
...and it's nice to see the studios catch up to my way of thinking. Grammer is PERFECT for Beast: he has THE VOICE, a way with presenting erudition, a fairly bulky build and kind of weird, glary blue eyes, that would look great shining out from beneath the fur. As for Shadowcat, I never really cared for the character enought to think of a casting choice for her... but Maggie Grace is as good a choice for Kitty as anybody.
-
Grammer's casting was a surprise but a pleasant one. Little unusual that they went w/such a recognizable name but he does fit the part more so than some cast in superhero films of recent years. I hear ya above w/re to the age thing(X-Men were teens when they joined up in the comix), yeah, but these movies are more of a reflection than a literal translation. As long as Kelsey is playing the blue furry version and not the early human one everything'll be fine. The suits for Hellboy and The Thing helped those actors achieve the proper look for their characters, they'll probably do that here as well.
-
Mags is just fine on LOST. For what that character is, she's perfect, however, as Kitty, I dunno. I guess I picture someone shorter w/curly hair and big expressive eyes like in the comics. That 'aint our Shannon.

... so what was wrong with the girl who played Kitty in the first two flicks? Did she suck? In which case, why cast her in the first place? Or is this a bit of stunt casting? I believe the answer would be yes. Iceman stayed, Colossus is staying... WTF?? As far as Halle playing Storm? PERFECT CASTING!! The most boring actress in Hollywood playing the most most boring female mutant... GENIUS! All I can hope for X3 is that she prices herself out of the market and gets cut entirely.

Would of all saved the studio a lot of money by having both the physicality and the personality. Which isn't to say I don't like the Grammer choice. I do. In fact I love the fact that someone over 30 has been cast.
-
These fucking characters were BOTH already IN the fucking PRIOR movie!!!!!! Why recast every fucking time you want to bring someone to the forefront. Will they recast Colossus just because the guy who already played him was a no-name? What the FUCK? And yeah - Billy Dee Williams should have been Two Face! There, I said it.
-
Couldn't she mix the schooling and shooting schedule?
-
Why not a CGI Beast voiced by Grammar?.....Yes more Kool Aid please Mr. Lucas.
Get Robin Williams to play Beast. He's already furry just dye him blue. -
don't you see women in your daily life? Thin, no ass and blond hair does not mean a girl is "hot". NO, she's not hot. She does play her part well, but she's not "hot" fellas. Get out of the house guys.
-
The only redeeming part of Kitty Pride's character when she first appeared was the schoolgirl crush she had on the strong, noble, and somewhat naive Colossus. Apart from that, she was irritating in almost every issue she was in.
Frasier as beast... interesting casting, but I just can't see it. Let's face it, the part of the Beast is incredibly physically demanding, the guy's a superhuman gymnast. Kelsey Grammer is an old guy, he can't look that part. And don't tell me that they're going to make Beast all CGI and have Grammer voice it. -
Ok ok, I know there's probably a ton of characters in this already (anybody have a list of the confirmed ones) but what about Gambit???
-
I've been a comic book geek for long enough now that it's somewhat embarrasing. So even though I can't say I've always been the biggest X-men fan, I think I can say that Maggie Grace isn't the most inspired choice to play Shadowcat. I know it's really masturbatory to argue who would have been a better choice but I really think that either Rachel Bilson (The O.C.) or Anne Hatheway (The Princess Diaries) would have been much better choices. They are both beautiful, capable actresses who naturally project an immense amount of innocence. That's my two cents.
-
There's only like 30 main characters now. WE NEED MORE. There are still non-geeks who go to these things. If there's no Unus the Untouchable (Garry Shandling), Lockheed (Frank Oz), Sunder (Sylvester Stallone), Nimrod (Ed Burns), Scarlet Witch (The mom from 'Yes Dear'), Avalanche (Sam Rockwell), Polaris (Jenna Elfman), or the Vanisher (Ving Rhames), I'm boycotting this movie. Oh, and X3 has to be about Dark Phoenix AND Sentinels AND Apocalypse AND Days of Future Past AND Magneto's origin AND have the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. ALL OF THEM, no skipping.
-
...with the predatory spoiled blonde from lost. That's WAY against character. If she has a crush on Colossus now, it won't be anywhere near as cute (oh, look, the nordic looking model chick is going after the hunkiest guy on the team... big shocker). Plus her acting on Lost hasn't made her one of my favorite cast members there (except when I was naming the ones I'd prefer to see killed off). KG is perfect for Beast, though. Like I said in another talkback, he played Hank McCoy in Cheers... smartest guy in the room making up for low self esteem by using stilted humor and twenty-dollar words. The rest of the bar laughed at him and he laughed back at them, but inside he was crying. Just use the effects to make him acrobatic and furry. Easily done.

by drath
The girl who played her in the first movie was perfect. Why did they change her for part 2? I can understand why they're changing her again? What is it with actors from JJ Abrams shows and comic book characters? Terry O'Quinn (Locke on LOST) is perfect for Lex Luther, so of course that's not happening. And Michael Vartan (Vaugh) would be a great Gambit, David Anders (Sark) a decent Quicksilver, and Kevin Weisman(Marshall) would be a great Beast. Although I like Kelsey Grammar's voice for Beast, too, and there are already enough characters to fill a Bible.
-
Meant to say that when I said I can understand why they've recast the character again. Have to admit though, they've picked the worst fit of all the JJ Abrams show actors. The girl who plays Nadia would make a great Psylocke too.
-
rev_skarekroe, Im right there with you, I hate seeing characters, even with minor roles, recast when thier roles become bigger, but I can also understand when moving said character closer to the front of the story, they want to put someone there who can act, where the background actor may have been fine for what they played, but not had the acting chops for a bigger role... Oh, and for my two cents, they should have another actor, like Doug Jones did in Hellboy, play beasts "body" and then have Kelsey do the voice... it worked for Abe Sapian well, because you have people doing the same character, one who is trained and experienced in voice acting and the other who plays the "body" (miming basically) prefessionally. You have to admit, Abe was perfectly done and Doug did a great job... and Sawyer from Lost as Gambit, bitches!
-
I hope there's still time to influence Matthew Vaughn. Maggie Grace is just wrong. Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls, Sin City) would be a perfect choice! Young, pretty, innocent, brainy...
-
... that horrible, unseen & unaired JLA pilot with a pot-bellied J'onn J'onzz played by David Ogden Stiers?
-
Has a pretty square-jaw and head; as strange as it sounds, I think that his face, after smurfication, would be perfect for Beast. So just run the hellboy treatment on him and let him go.
-
Colossus is being recast as well. Eh. Doesn't really bother me. The only actors who have really owned their characters are Prof. X, Wolverine, and Magneto. The rest are pretty interchangible. Especially the ones who've only had a cup of coffee.
Also, Gambit is a big stinking pile of shite. -

by weird-coma
..When they cast Bullet-Tooth Tony for Jug's, I was a little intreagued. He's got a great range for it, and with some prosthesis work, ala Hyde from LXG (Yeah, the movie sucked, but Hyde looked pretty cool, and the effect worked well.), he could do well. Then I read this B.S. about them beefing up Berrys role, just to please her. Thats bad. If the storyline calls for is, hey, thats cool, but dont do it just to placate the whiny bitch. Her star presence didnt do a damn bit of good for her last few movies, which all did a David Caruso. Now we get Grammer and Grace. Grammer isnt tooo much of a problem, as they could do the same to him as the did to Perlman in Hellboy. but Beast is supposed to be agile as hell as well, and I dont see Grammer being up for that. As for Grace, well, I'd love to see them explain Kitty going from like 11 in X-2 to adult in whats only going to be a few years elapsed time. Chalk it up to Hollywood logic. Even for the current, adult Kitty in the comics, shes a little long in the tooth. I dont know, I'm less than enthused about this news. But, then, everyone was tanking the first film way back when, so who knows...
-
Couldn't they get a young, unknown, huge, ripped guy who can act to dress up as Beast & lip-synch to Grammar's vocals? I don't want a CGI Beast until he's in action, doing something inhumanly acrobatic. And not only is Maggie Grace not talented enough for Shadowcat, she's also too friggin' old. Who wants Shadowcat if she's not 13 or 14 or however old she was when she first showed up? The Grammar casting cheered me up, I have been gradually accepting Vinnie as Juggernaut, but this Maggie Grace shit has brought me right back down in the dumps. F You Singer.
-
. . . I always thought that if Grammar buffed up as much as possible he would be a good Sebastian Shaw. Can anyone else picture that?
-
that last Lost Quint mentioned rocked!
-
I immediately think "thirteen year old flat-chested Jewish girl from Detroit". Actually, that's not true. What do Shannon and Madison (the actress who plays "Vincent") have in common? Oh come on, this is an easy one. They're both bitches.
-
I don't know, maybe I don't watch as much TV or movies as I should, but it seems to me like a lot of people who are being touted as "perfect" for a role are really based on having a physical look (Why is Terry O'Quinn "perfect" for Lex Luthor? Because he's bald? I've never seen anything in his acting that made me think he'd be good for a character like Luthor). On the other hand, it seems like a lot of the groans of someone being terrible for a part are based not only on the look but also on their having played another character that is not exactly like the one they're up for. I mean, how many of you have ever seen Maggie Grace on anything BUT Lost? I haven't. I think that she plays that character very well, which is why nobody really likes her... it's not a likeable character! (As for Sayid being able to do better... He's on a dessert island with 4 women (one with a husband and the other with a baby) and 10 men (and a bunch of redshirts). Did you want him to hold out for Kate or Claire, or to wait until another plane crashes? He's actually doing quite well in being the first of the non-married men to snag any of the girls! Okay, random Lost rant ended)
I'm just saying, give Maggie Grace a break! We haven't seen her try to play a character anything like Kitty yet. Just because Shannon's not Kitty doesn't mean she can't do it. -
Yes, Sayid is on an island made of ice cream with chocolate mountains and whipped cream clouds. I meant "desert" island, obviously... sorry.
-
Has anyone stopped to think that they might be adapting "Days of Future Past"? This would let them show Sentinels, America torn apart, Mutants as political prisoners -- and they can tell two parallel stories (future and now, with flashbacks to the past). If they did that story and the climax was Pheonix's return, then it could be the third part in the "Equal Rights" X-Men trilogy.
-
All he'd have to do is take off his shirt.
-
If they are casting young for Emme's role, then I could see her as the White Queen, Grammer would be perfect as Sebastian Shaw or a GC Beast's voice.
Maggie can be a real bitch on LOST, so she has that going for her--as well as looking good in shiny white dresses (a la Golden Globes), and the has nice orbs of her own.
Now who they should get to be Adult Kitty Pride is Evangeline Lilly...(drool)... -
...Emmy Rossum!
Of course some will say that she is too much like Anna Paquin in type to be in the same film.
I say that is more an issue of Paquin being miscast than Rossum being inappopriate for this role.
And yes, 20 years ago Iman would have been perfect for Storm as woul d Dolph Lundgren for Colossus.
-
Let's hear the rest of the casting and then let them get to making this son of a bitch.
-
Before you judge Maggie Grace, I suggest that you, as "mildewproduction" mentioned above, rent (or buy) disk 3 of the Miracles DVD set. Beyond the fact that it is a very good show that did not deserve cancellation, Ms. Grace (who is 22 by the way, hardly old) does an excellent job portraying an innocent Amish girl. It took me half the episode to even regognize who she was. (Mild spoilers) In the episode, the character has multiple personalities (is possessed). As such, the actor had to flip between being the aforementioned Amish girl to being a spoiled New York sophisticate multiple times, often within the same scene. She pulled it off pretty well. I think she could manage the Kitty Pryde role very well. Oh, and I should also add that she looks a lot better as a brunette than as a blonde.

Maggie Grace is a terrible cast for shadowcat.

They only cast her because she is "hot" right now because she's on a hit show. Well, Kitty Pryde is a throwaway character anyway, so I don't care much. I have a bad feeling about this new director, but maybe he'll shake things up and make a good film.
-
I take it you're a fan of Maggie Grace. Here's my suggestion to you: howsabout we don't "give her a chance" on a big-budget movie just because you've got the hots for her? Just because we don't know she'd do a bad job doesn't mean we do know she'd do a good job, and even then, I think the casting is dunderheaded even in the way of appearance. Emmy Rossum, as suggested by Rib Eye, would be a much better choice in my opinion.
-
"What? Kelsey Grammer as Beast? That chick from "Lost" as Shadowcat? This series is doomed, I tell you! Doooomed!!!" Cheese and crackers, cucumbers and cold milk, fellas.
-
Is Kitty Pride the one who can walk through walls or is that some one else. Because we see a girl with similar powers in X2 during the school attack.
Either way, Kelsey Grammer kind makes sense. I have a good feeling about this, like it wil be kick as or something. Of course they will have to do some shit about Beast's appearance, but I don't know what it is. -
So you don't know who Kitty Pride is but you think Grammer's casting makes sense? Need I go on?
-
Is this beast gonna be beast before he changed blue and furry? Or is he alredy gonna be blue and furry? Or is he gonna be normal and then get blue and furry during? You all know he doesn't start off blue and furry right?
-
You'd act scared, I bet.
-
Inhabit most of the internet and this site is no different..Maggie Grace is plenty hot , sheesh you limp dicks only wish you could bed something that hot and she will do fine with this part stop acting like you are more informed about casting then the professionals are..asswipes.
-
That's a good question. My guess is that the blue and furry part will make some appearance, but whether or not that's true remains to be seen.
-
Um, how 'bout we let someone who DOESN'T get a twinge in their pants every time you say the words "Maggie Grace" decide whether or not they like the decision? We're allowed to have an opinion, right? Wrong? Well, too bad, cause I have one. I don't like her as Shadowcat at all. I don't. If you scroll through this TalkBack, you'll notice that MOST people don't. And the people who do tellingly seem to bring up how hot she is as well. Hollywood (sometimes) knows what they're doing. In this case, they're capitalizing on the residue of a successful TV show, a small salary, and hormone-addled young men like yourself. But because you like her, you think that we mere mortals should just shut our mouths and accept moves in Hollywood as the decisions of titans we can't hope to understand. Fuck you. I DO know Shadowcat; I'm familiar with the character. Unless the role is completely different in the movies from what is is in the comics, Maggie Grace is not Shadowcat. This decision might be final, but I don't like it, and I'm not going to apologize for it. End of story.

Does this mean The Beast is going to walk on a stage saying "I was a UN interpreter...ahhhh dear god!!"

If the X-Men deal with alien species, then it changes the whole essense of what the public feels the films are. It will be perceived as a loss of the mutants as 'oppressed' beings. If they start going into outer space (probably not including Magneto's Asteroid M, in orbit above Earth), dealing with the likes of the Brood and the Starjammers, then the movies will lose their focus. Same if they represent Days of Future Past. Comics geeks (like me) will love the hell out of it, but for the presentation of a property on in the movie industry, the X-Men movies have a certain 'tone' that audiences overall will rail against. But, wouldn't the Shi'ar Empire be glorious to see in a movie format...?

I feel exactly the same way.

wasn't the kitty pryde character the first jewish super hero? No one has mentioned this. The only power I could imagine ms. grace posessing is to create giant flaming letters over her head spelling out the word W.A.S.P.... just a thought.

... I forgot to say that, thanks to the steaming piles of repeatedly flung shit that are the time-travel stories from the Star Trek side of the universe, the movie-going public would totally trash an X-movie that dealt with time travel. As far as the latest casting, I'm intrigued by Kelsey Grammar as the Beast. Maggie Grace as Kitty? FUGGIN'YUCK. But, I must say... if Bryan Singer had cast Maggie Grace as Kitty, then there wouldn't be such an immediate backlash. I'm thinking that anyone's bad reactions to casting is simply a sign of how much they trusted Bryan Singer, and now that he's gone, their trust is now feeble, at best. We're all waiting on having our trust earned back by whoever has taken Singer's place. ALSO, whoever said that Iman should have been cast as Storm... NO!! WRONG!! ANGELE BASSETT would make the PERFECT Storm! Damn good actress, looks the part, and she would actually LOOK powerful! And, they do need to have MORE characters in the X-Movies. The more they keep the public intrigued by all these characters, the more sequels they'll be able to do, hopefully.

Angela Bassett. Fuck, I hate it when I misspell.

First of all, it seems like the producers are trying to squeeze too many characters into the movie. Second, Kelsey is too old and out of shape to play the Beast. It might be fine if they use CGI for all of Hank's effects. If not, Mr. Grammer better be prepared to do a lot sit ups. I also thought that the series was heading in the right direction with the Dark Phoenix Saga, but it seems like they are putting that story on the back burner for now... And here I thought that there was going to be some continuity between pictures.

just so i could play him, i'd like that...a cameo.....wouldn't you?
-
What about Ron Perlman as Beast? He's done this sort of thing before (heavy make-up in comic book movies) and has more proven that he isn't too old to do that whole muscle-bound monster-with-heart thing; both thanks to Hellboy. Don't get me wrong, I love Kelsey Grammer (yay, Sideshow Bob), but I have to admit I'm biased.
And Maggie Grace annoys the shit out of me. -
Shannon always looks like she's gonna bitch-smack someone. I haven't seen "Miracles," so I can't vouch that she has any range at all. I'd hope that any other girl on the island would be much better! Evangeline lilly or dye the pregnant chick's hair. And I can think of a score of cute, petite brunettes who'd be great. Not Alexis Bledel. She was gag-worthy in Sin City, and I'm not such a fan of how whiny she can sound on her show. Is that how "brainy" people sound? And by the way folks, Kitty Pryde eventually ages in the damn comics.
And how is Kelsey Grammar too old to play a Doctor? He ain't no teen. Undoubtedly they will either use a stuntman or CG for the Beast's acrobatics. It's called "The Movies." They have the technology. So I say Kelsey Yay and Maggie Nay. -
kelsey grammer voicin' the beast and david hyde-pierce voicin' abe sapien (hope thats spelt right) as superheroes in seattle constantly bickering in an amusing fashion. Grammars voice and face is perfect for the role, he sounds like the beast from the early 90s x-men cartoon, if they can somehow cg his (blue, furry, bespectacled) face onto a bulked up actors body without it looking completely lame, then it gets my chuck norris approved 10 thumbs up!! saying that though, i just saw episode 3 tonite and couldn't work out why when the clone soldiers were in scenes w/out helmets, they were allowed to look so shoddy, even when only one of them had their helmet off you could tell the head was superimposed on the body, why didn't lucas just film the guy a couple of times in different positions for group shots then just have him actually wearing the suit for that brief scene with obi-wan?? bit of a tangent i know but i worry about these things at 3am in the morning here in eng-er-land.
