Does the iminent emergence of Michele Rodriguez as a main cast member mean that there are others from flight 815 on the Island, and if so, were they who Boone spoke to on the Radio before he fell off the cliff.

I also keep wondering why there's never anything about the Shield on Coaxial. Besides being one of few consistently great shows currently on the air it was also created by Angel alumn Shawn Ryan and is co-produced by Sarah Fain and Elizabeth Craft (also Ex-Angel). Usually Herc keeps close tabs on all former Whedonites, so what's up with the lack of coverage? Oh, and House, M.D. and the new Doctor Who also blow the O.C. out of the water!

for some reason, I can't stand his acting. I tuned in to Nash Bridges years ago, out of morbid curiosity of course, and he managed to make both Don Johnson and Cheech Marin look like master thespians. I hope his character gets killed quickly...preferably by a polar bear

    Lost & The Shield

    by ryanmurray

Both of these shows are two of the best scripted hours that we can watch midweek. While I do love LOST, I just think The Shield doesn't get any respect anymore for some reason. It seems as if "Nip/Tuck" stole all the thunder, and it's just left to its diehard fans. But after starting slowly this season, once episode 4 aired, it really picked up and returned to Season 1 form. It needs more press on AICN. :D

Draw your own conclusions but unless i'm missing some vital information (I am in the UK and didn't see this weeks preview) I'm pretty sure she'll turn up along with a few others from the other side of the island, maybe they've built a raft out of the tail wreckage? doubt it,

    by thefount

Saw an interview w/ Abrams posted at the Fuselage (forgot the original source, sorry) in which he said that the radio message about "We're the survivors..." was going to play a part in the finale and was a large portion of season 2, implying that, yes, there is another camp of survivors from the flight and we will start meeting them. Do they have their own Locke, Hurley, etc.? Do they have their own hatch? Is Rose's husband there? Will Merry find Pippin with the others?

Why does she have to be from the back of the plane? It's true, it seems that's the direction they are going in, but I always felt that with the number of people on the Island, who we only get glimpses of here and there (And I'm talking about the people we've already met who are right ther eon the beach/caves with Jack and the gang), that they could easily bnig an actor or two in to play one of the unidentified faces. Locke's Legs

    by holidill

My opinion is that the island knew he needed to sacrifice Boone, so they took away his legs so he would not be the one climbing into the plane and dying. And yes Locke got the gun from the Nigerian "Priest" Drug smuggler.

    Great episode

    by aerob

Is Locke lying about his legs hurting again? They're apparently working, in any case. Maybe the island just screwed him over for a minute so it could kill off Boone. Sun was trying to poison Jin; should have seen that one coming, but I didn't. Thought it was Walt at first. Now Walt's scared pissless of the island and the promo for next week looks spectacular. Kate got her childhood sweetheart killed, so that's a big part of the whole guilt thing she's got going, but we still don't know why she's "always running", what she did to make her mom so frightened of her, or what she did to get hunted by the law. The ship is setting sail, but I'm thinking it's going to fail. They might get it launched next week but I bet it'll be back on the island at very least at the beginning of next season, perhaps minus one of its crew (my money would be on Michael if somebody drowns). What's in the hatch? Something bad, I expect. But is it something different from "the others"? Questions, questions. Here's hoping the season finale resolves a some of them and proves me wrong about the Island mysteries being a dead end on this show.

Days Of OUr Lives has done the island story twice in fact and surprisingly it kicked ass both times. First was the Cruise of Deception in 1990 when a bomb sank an oceanliner and the cast ended up on an island ruled bu evil Erneston. He poisoned poisoned Isabella, kidnapped Hope and blew himself up. It was awesome. The second one was last summer where about 20 of Salem's residents were held prisoner on Captive Island,a fortress for the supposedly dead victims of the Salem Stalker. Wild beasts, raging rivers, volcanoes and a tidal wave all reined down on those poor souls. Damn good fun. But no Cassie bathing nude in a waterful. Dammit! By the way rescue me and denis leary can both suck ass.

    Tonight's ep...

    by thalya

Was surprisingly good. As people have mentioned in past weeks, there was some filler because of the change in number of episodes ordered, but this was remarkable for calling our attention to what characters do and don't know about one another. Tonight was payoff in a big way because all the setup done in backstories over the course of the season is getting woven together to where every single character has got something going on, even if they don't have any lines like Shannon this week. Sayid's alarm at the hatch was a revelation, but Walt was incredible: he has a sense for the powers he has and was freaked that he didn't cause his dad to be poisoned. Well, ok, I'll temper my evaluation: tonight was the beginning of payoff because they've finally thrown away the filler and are getting to the meat of things. The next three hours are going to show us how good they are at juggling all these characters at once while doing big plot revelations. Guys, skip the big X-Files mystery, half the fun is in watching all these disparate characters from all walks of life interacting and _understanding_ where they're all coming from at once. We don't need a neophyte character (Dana Scully, Agent Cooper) to guide the audience in this world, its discoveries being the audience's discoveries, etc.. As it is, anyway, half the mystery on this show comes from the characters themselves. /// BTW, anyone read anything on Ian Somerhalder that says definitively that he's off the show? It could just be that his contract is for the whole season, and not all regulars on this show make every episode because of the cast size, and he still has flashback potential in Shannon eps, because his name was still in the opening credits. I just wonder about it. Granted, this isn't Buffy, but who's to say the island can't work in mysterious resurrection-y ways?

Filler? ::sigh:: YOu jsut don't GET this show.

    by homergator

Everyone that keeps discussing passing episodes of "nothing happening" and being "filler" need to examine the show they are watching. If last night was filler for you, turn off the series. You're gonna hate the rest of it. I have enjoyed every episode that has aired for this show. Why? Because halfway through the season I began to care more for the CHARACTERS than I did for the MYSTERY. Abrams is smart, and not at the same time. He lures viewers in with one hook, but his show is a different beast all together. However, it should be obvious even to a six year old at this point in the season how this show functions. ESPECAILLY after last weeks' phenomenal episode where we got to see a little glimpse of all the characters in one way or another. I LOVED the idea of PERCEPTION on tonight's episode. How every views everyone else on the island. And how those views can be changed at the snap of a finger. My God, to any viewer it should have been obvious that it was Sun. I didn't pick up on the sun connection until almost right before it was revealed outright. Why? Because so far she's been the kind, caring, broken english Korean. She's never been perceived as devious. Oh, except for that whole lying to her husband for several years. but we'd already forgotten that, hadn't we? Admit it. Moments like that make this series great. Kate's flashback was important enough to me just to know what the plane was all about. WHen I first saw it on the show, I was afraid she was responsible for blowing the plane up. Again...this show contstanly plays with perceptions. But it's obvious the mysteries are going to be few and far between...so don't rely on them to keep the showinteresting for you. Turn it off now, you'll thank me.

Of course Locke's legs hurt, he had a big fuckin' piece of shrapnel in one that he didn't feel when it was numb. If they are OK now, that's GOTTA hurt like a bitch. Speaking of bitches, and I love them both, kate really did get what she deserved, because she put Sun up to poisoning Jin to "help" her keep him on the island. Well said, HomerGator. The show is about the characters.

    by big jim

People who are lost on an island, but also people who were lost in life (before they boarded the plane). Moviemack, I can't speak for everyone, but I don't even know what Entertainment Weekly article you are referring to. I heard about the pilot episode here and thought it sounded like a show I would like to watch. So when it aired I watched it and was hooked. Maybe you base your viewing preferences on what EW columnists tell you to like or dislike but not everyone is such a sheep. ********* Two questions about last night's episode. Was the timecapsule a "New Kids on the Block" lunchbox? Did Kate take the toy plane at the end? I am curious how it ended up in a safe-deposit box.

    Born to run...

    by thefount

I loved last nights episode. I was bothered by the fact that Kate's backstory left us with more questions about her than before. Sure we know the significance of the plane, but what had she done to begin with? Why did her mom scream for help? Why did she back in 1989 say she wanted to leave and tell her boyfriend that he knew why? Why was that statement followed by awkward silence in 1989 and present day? I have a feeling all of these are important to understanding exactly who she is, and how she thinks/acts. We need to know these things.

    Walt

    by mtstan

I loved this last episode, especially the quick little bits with Walt. What did he see when he touched Locke? It's driving me crazy! Also, why did he say they HAD to leave the island??? Just the suspense from those small lines are killing me.

obviously wanted to leave because of her parents and what they or one of them was doing to her. and the boyfriend knew it too. even back then in 89 when they were 13.

maybe the new castaways will be in the hatch...and they will be EVIL!! (from the preview..."they are comming!" -- ala Ethan-superstrong evil person!)
lost could change from forbidden planet to the stand. (good vs evil)

    by john-locke

when that dude who played Leno suddenly popped in like he's been there the whole time, I didn't think the makers would pull that one, guess I was wrong. Can't wait to find out either way. Good episode but not great.

The sudden appearance of Dr. Artz

    by thefount

I would have prefered for the character to be someone from the redshirts we had seen wandering around all season rather than someone completely new, but I felt they handled it well and made it obvious that everyone was at least familiar with him.

    ZO re:Kate

    by thefount

I forgot to say, I agree that something her parents did is probably what made her want to run. My theory is that her father molested or otherwise abused her and that she was at one point forced to kill him. This would be the beginning of the running from the police that continued all the way to craphole island.

    Confused about Kate's past

    by somethingreal81

First, didn't Kate tell Jack she was from Canada? Last night's episode sure seemed to imply she grew up in Iowa. Also, I can't believe no one has mentioned that after last night's episode we're back to square one in not knowing why Kate was a fugitive. Before, everyone assumed she was wanted for the bank robbery. But since the toy plane was in the safe deposit box and she was apparently on the run before she even had the toy plane, she was obviously on the run before the bank. And didn't she say last night that she was really innocent? Just tell us why she's a fugitive already! It's one thing for the show to be slow to give us answers, but for them to give one (that Kate was wanted for bank robbery) and then take it away really pisses me off.

the heart of it all, OPN 924A

open the hatch, the "heart" of the island at 9:24am? sept 24th? A?

and they made the tape on august 15th, 815. more of the numbers. i'm starting to think that somehow the sequence of numbers could be deciphered as "red herring"

or maybe the numbers could indicate when the hatch will open - maybe by itself - and something will come out (the others?)? I don't know, just a thought.

    Artz and Kate's mom

    by mtstan

I thought they would have gradually introduced Artz, like have him speak to somebody last week and just show him the week before, then give him a name this week. It was a little jarring as we've met less than half the people on the island, and while they've met each other, we didn't see any of it. They did it better with Steve.

Ok, why was Kate's mom screaming for help? Was she nuts or did she recognize her daugher and see her as a threat? Oh, and did anybody else just love the way she laid out that security guard?!?

    by wonkothesane

As an ex-oxycontin & fentanyl junkie myself...I feel *real* bad for Charlie when he finds that mega-stash...boy, back in my using days, being crashed on an island with a hot chick (the formerly pregnant lady that fancies him) plenty of boar meat and coconuts, and a lifetime supply of smack...shit, I'd have been in f-ing heaven!!! I'd freaking NEVER want to leave!!! Shee-it, *I'd* burn the raft!!
(Hell, put me in his shoes NOW and I'd be sorely tempted...)
If Locke had any heart, he'd burn the stuff and NEVER tell Charlie about it...

    the hatch is a portal

    by bouncy x

maybe the hatch is like that box in Futurama that led to an alternate universe...and when you go in, it brings you out to "another island" with all the same people except they're evil!!!!!! so then the very last shot of the last episode this season will be the hatch open and someone climbing out and just as we see a familiar face it fades to black. then we'll be left with "oh my, another(insert island member name here)" ? :P

Yeah...the hatch will open, Boone will step out, alive, and wearing a goatee... ;)

Maybe the hatch leads to HELL!!! Or *worse*...NEW JERSEY!!!

Maybe in the end, the twist will be that thye aren't on an island at all...but...*gasp*...a PENINSULA!!!

    Was that really Kate's Mom?

    by _maltheus_

Do we know for certain that Diane was Kate's mother? She was referring to her as Diane earlier. Some children do that, but I don't think that was the case here. She seemed afraid of Kate. What mother would be afraid of her daughter? Maybe they were partners in crime or something? Did her boyfriend ever make the implication that she was Kate's mother? I thought Kate only said that so that she would be allowed to see her in the hospital. BTW, I loved that Locke finally pointed out that he doesn't report to Jack. Although I wouldn't want to rough up the only doctor, someone needs to put that punk in his place. And it does work with connecting Locke to his philosopher namesake, arguing that the inherent rights of the individual aren't granted to him by the state (Jack). I don't understand how people still think Locke is evil. I don't think there is anything they can do at this point to convince me of that. I wish more people were like him.

    by jim jam bongs

Final shot will probably be The Hatch opening up on its own, as a blinding light beams out from within it, with only one person standing there watching this happen. It will probably be Hurley, not Locke, who witnesses this. Count on this happening.

I agree Kate killed her Dad that is why she is on the run. I imagine he abused her and/or her Mom. I think she went "Michael Corleone" on his ass. I also agree she is smoking hot.

    and another thing...

    by hovitos2k

... sorry, just making sure I knew my password... Okay, LOST was kick ass in the beginning. The Backstory thing was cool as an introduction to all the major players. It spiced up the drama. But then major characters got more backstory, and then more backstory and then suddenly, life on the island began taking a backseat to these freaking flashbacks, when all I REALLY wanted to see was what life was like on this freakin Island. And nothing infuriated me more than the period of time taken between Claire's kidnapping and her return. It was like three episodes before they even dealt with the whole issue. It was like, "Hey Claire got kidnapped" "OH really, darn, that sucks." "Wanna build a raft?" "Sure, okay."

I'm all for building character, but what if we did it more in the context of life on the island. I know all these people have pasts, but at a certain point don't people have conversations with each other? Can't we reveal certain plot points that way? I think that would be so much more fufilling. The mystery aspect of the show is being dragged out so much that it's losing steam. You spend time building the mystery but then take a break to work on Characters, so then the mystery suffers. I dunno, I'm getting indifferent to a show I made plans to stay home and watch. Now I just TIVO the sucker and watch it while fast forwarding the commercials. They had me and they're slowly losing me. I don't care if Sayid was a terrorist or soldier, he's a swell dude who can make radios. I don't care if Jack didn't want to Marry the chick from Ed, I just know he's the doctor dude. I don't need to know that Kate is conflicted and a fugitive, all I need to know is that she's a hot chick that know's how to track and that she occasionally seen in her underwear.

All I'm saying is the stage is set, so let's play it out already and get going already.
ps- Don't shave me... I love you.
