Published at:  May 02, 2005 1:57:53 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

To no one’s surprise, Fox’s “Arrested Development” won USA Today’s “Save Our Show” poll dealing with shows still in danger of cancellation. 66 percent of respondents voted to save it.

Runners up were CBS’ “Joan of Arcadia” (40 percent), NBC’s “The Office” (37 percent), NBC’s now-renewed “Will & Grace” (35 percent), Fox’s “Bernie Mac” (34 percent), CBS’ “Judging Amy” (28 percent) and ABC’s “Eyes” (27 percent).

Previous winners of the poll - notably “Star Trek: Enterprise” and “Angel” – received new-season orders after winning this poll.

Read all of USA Today’s results here.

Fox will announce whether it will keep or drop “Arrested” on May 19.

DVD sales reanimated "Family Guy"! Demonstrate to Fox the enormity of "Arrested Development's" fanbase by purchasing many many copies of its season-one DVD box set!!

Where's the talkback on that show? Great plotlines. A guaranteed sniffle packed into every episode. I didn't know it was on the bubble. Save this show!

Re: Prior Walter - the way the poll operates

    by theseeker7

If you recall, we were allowed to vote for multiple shows in that poll. There were about 15 choices I think, & for each one we could've voted "Save", "Cancel" or "Don't Care". So conceivably (though obviously highly unlikely), every one of those shows could've come back with 100% results, if everybody who happened to vote decided that all those shows should be "Saved". Understand now? (like some of the folks who voted to save AD could've also chosen to save "Eyes"... incidentally those were the only 2 shows I bothered to even make a vote on - both save)

I didn't consider that people voting could choose more than one show. Thanks for explaining it!

I don't know that it'll make a difference, but it can't hurt to see AD win this poll. If the execs at FOX were looking for one more piece of data to push them one way or the other then hopefully this is it. As much as I agree with iamnicksaicnsn that the first season was brilliant (I too watched a boog portion of it over the weekend) I think that the second season was even better. they established the characters and the formula in the first season, but I think the second season really perfected things. It would be a shame to see AD get cancelled without seeing what they have in store for us in a third season.

    by big jim

But were not both cancelled before the end of that "new season"?
If AD is renewed then cancelled, I guess it is better to be cancelled after 3 seasons than 2 (or even 1). I supose a show can live only so long on the bubble (and this one has been residing there since episode 1) before sliding off into oblivion (or, in this case, huge DVD sales).

I used to watch a different TV show every night of the weeks and now I watch only 2, 24 and House. NOw Family guy is back and I can watch that.

I voted to save AD in the poll because it is one of the best and strongest sitcoms to come along in a long long time. I know some people hate it and frankly, they have shitty taste and can eat me. I only got into AD in the second seaons so I recently watched the s1 DVD and there wasn't a single weak episode in the bunch. People seem to think that unless they rolling on the floor pissing their pants every time someone talks then it "isn't funny". They rate a show as being either "teh best evar!!" or "it sucks shit" adn that shows their lack of imagination from the start.

My ultimate point is that dumbing down the TV for only massive ratings hits is pretty short sighted and it is costing them people like me that used to watch TV every night.

p.s. I enjoy Joan of Arcadia but they quickly went from original and quircky to really stretching excuses for a conflict and story. Some ideas just shouldn't last more than a season. Too many TV shows try to stick around longer than they should.

    by hattori_hanzo

just move the damn thing to fx and we'll all live happily ever after. then the douche factory that is fox can continue showing shit like american dad (which sucks horribly compared to FG). speaking of FG, the scene at tom tucker's house last night w/brian and stewie fucking pwn3d. that is all.

    by torndaredevil

I will cry if they cancel The Office.

And I've never seen Arrested Development but I can tell that's it's just one of those "look at us, we're hip and funny haha" shows and that pisses me off.

Torndaredevil: Just watch the first disc of season one. (You can skip the aired pilot. The extended one is funnier, and only a couple minutes longer.) You will be hooked. Then watch disc two, specifically "My Mother the Car," "Public Relations," and "Pier Pressure," and you will swear on Harry's life this is the greatest show in the history of mankind. Then keep watching to see how Saddam Hussein figures into the mix. By Nov., when the 2nd season is released on dvd and the 3rd season hits the air, you will unquestionably love this show.

    The Office Doesn't Rule

    by el fuego

It's better than most of the crappy sitcoms on TV, but it doesn't compare to AD and it doesn't come even fucking CLOSE to the British original.

May 19th? I guess this means it's already cancelled

    by supertoyslast

Fox announcing whether AD lives or dies coincidentally on the same day that they release ROTS? I'm guessing that the Fox press office will be preparing press releases about record box office takings and just pass off a quick note about the demise of AD in the hope of it being a good day to bury bad news.

"Will & Grace already renewed" ... (sigh)....

    by theseeker7

Seriously people, this show has virtually redefined the term "jumping the shark". And it's a shame, because it once was a terrific show, I'd think many of the current naysayers (including obviously me) would even agree with that. For the first several years it was very witty & intelligently written, pushing a few envelopes. I watched consistently all the way thru til I guess about 1 season after Grace officially married Harry Connick Jr (who frankly I thought did great with most of the material he was given). But for like AT LEAST the last 3 years, there simply doesn't seem to exist an ep of W&G that doesn't include a MAJOR Hollywood guest star. An A or B+ lister is pretty much the 5th cast member and has been for a long time now, it's rather pathetic. I mean, how much more clearly can you be telling your audience "We can no longer make our show work to be interesting with our original concept". So that's 1 more half hour I got back on my Thurs nights (actually with The Apprentice as well, I've gained a whole 90 minutes back to myself that night). This turkey is so incredibly done that it's even long ago been savagely picked apart by vultures with the decaying carcass left on the side of the road to decompose over the next 100 years (which incidentally is how long the next upcoming season will likely *seem* to last)............ Though lastly on a completely different topic -- HOW FUCKING GENIUS WAS THE OPENING FOR "FAMILY GUY" LAST NIGHT?!?! I mean they just went for it and then some. Peter Griffin I swear must've reeled off at least 40 different show titles, making an excellent and hilarious point. Long live "Family Guy"!! (and "Arrested Development" and "Eyes", lol)

Peter Griffin's attack on Fox was good...

    by mbaker

But if he would've ended it with a slam against Fox's dependance on reality show, then the gag would've been perfect. Plus, the 'G.I. Joe' bit was priceless! (And knowing is half the battel.)

I guess I can't judge a show until after I've seen it, so my judgement on AD will have to wait. But I did see Family Guy last night and I just do not think it's funny. It was semi-entertaining, but just not funny. Can someone explain the appeal?
